Came here for some axe throwing for 4 people. Its cool that you can upgrade to a bag of shovel, axe and knife to throw. Since you know an axe isnt hard enough to throw!! It was super hot in here. I dont think they had ac, just really big fans. Being a super hot day in Fullerton, it was quite uncomfortable. The actual axe throwing lane is small. Only 1 person can be throwing at a time. Unlike axe slayers (unfortunately permanently closed) in redlands where 2 people can be throwing at a time. Here its dark and hard to see. The projection needs some help. Its really blurry and hard to see. Maybe it's the projector or the screen that needs updating. The board definitely has seen better days. Its beyond used. Several large chunks were missing from it. It wasent even smooth anymore. Huge divets in the board. Should've been replaced months ago. It kooked loke a freaking 3-d map of the mountain ranges around Mt. Everest, with tall areas of where the wood should be, then massive depressions where chunk of wood has been taken off the board. The floor haven't been sweeped in I dont know how long. Large peices of wood and splinters all over the place. Just seemed really unkept and not taken cared of. There were different games you can play. But the board was so tore up it was kind of hard to see the lines and things on the actual board. The mouse clicker and computer system worked pretty well though. The sitting area was a line of stools and a bar top. You had to tuck your legs in if people were walking by. Basically your sitting shoulder to shoulder with the next party if they were on the next lane over. That happened to us, a group was next to us, and we basically had to take turns getting into our lane it was so cramped. It was just too small in here. Customer service was cool. Lots of safety measures. But I've been to better axe throwing places. This place did not wow me. They also have a rage room, which is cool, but it is expensive and I dont feel as though its worth the price. It was fun adjacent. On the fence if I'll come back here. read more

This place is really fun!!! It's a great spot for a date night or for a night with friends! For Axe Throwing, you can choose from different axes of different weights to use for your lane. You also get to choose different games to test your skill levels throwing the axe. They also have a rage room and arcade games. My husband and I booked for an hour and felt like that was plenty of time for two people. We are both very competitive so my only hangup is we started getting really hot and the fan wasn't doing it for us. It would be awesome to have drinks or small bites available but this place is also conveniently located in DT Fullerton and there's plenty of spots nearby. Had a date here recently, and it wasn't too busy because we went during the afternoon and peak times are around nighttime. This was my first time axe throwing, but it was actually really fun. The staff were very professional and cordial! Really cool activity to give a try once in a while! The staff were very helpful and patient - gave us some tips and techniques to get us going. I opted for the everything bucket, shovel/axe/ knife, and I gotta say it was pretty worth it for the extra cost as you get to work with the different weight distributions. When you actually get the hit in, the sounds they make on the wooden boards is really nice. The entrance to this place is however, situated behind the main street since if you were to go through the entrance on commonwealth, you'd be in the axe throwing ranges already. Last month, we were walking around after grabbing matcha when we passed by The Axe Liar and immediately said, "We have to try that place." Fast forward to this month. We were out having dinner nearby and decided to finally give it a shot. We showed up just before 8 PM and luckily they had space for walk-ins. First thing we had to do was sign a waiver. Nothing says "fun night out" like promising not to sue if things get a little wild. They give a teacher discount- just show your ID. We booked an hour and chose the axe (they also had knives, shovels, and a few other options--definitely trying the full bucket next time). We were set up in lane 3, and one of the staff members walked us through how to throw and how to switch between different games. We started with good old-fashioned target practice, and I actually won the first round (felt pretty proud of that!). But then we played tic-tac-toe... and let's just say I got destroyed. Like, not even close. I kept telling myself it was just a warm-up. My boyfriend is very competitive so he was definitely in my head. We played a few more games, and eventually I found my rhythm. Turns out, you have to really throw hard if you want that axe to stick. Good news: I came back and won the last two rounds. Girl power for the win! Overall, this place was a blast. The vibe was relaxed, dim lighting, the staff was super helpful, and it ended up being way more fun than I expected. If you are looking for something different to do, especially with friends or for date night, I would totally recommend it. Just make sure to stretch your shoulders beforehand... and maybe your ego, too lol. read more

We had a great time here celebrating my birthday in DTF with a group of 11 people. Some of us had done it before and some hadn't, but everyone had fun. I got our reservation online a week prior which was easy since we paid ahead of time. It was $30/person for an hour slot, and that seems to be pretty standard fare for axe throwing. The actual entrance is on the parking lot side rather than the sidewalk on Commonwealth. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and taught us how to best throw the axe (we didn't upgrade to the bag of knives and shovels) as well as how to work the projector in each lane. They have lots of different targets and games to choose from! Be warned that there's no food/alcohol for sale here. They do have a fridge with water bottles and stuff for sale up front but it'd be cool if they could turn that small waiting area into a mini bar so you can get beers and snacks, though I get why they don't do that. It was a cool spot to let out some aggression before we wandered over to our dinner reservation later that night. We'll be coming back for sure--it'd be nice with a smaller group, like a double date or something. Definitely worth trying! read more

I visited the Axe Lair November 7th for various reasons, none of them being the election results. I've never thrown an axe in my life but I found it to be fairly easy to learn and once we got going it felt great! Definitely a stress relieving activity that gets your mind off of current events. They have various axe games you can play and I could stay there for hours just practicing. It's great with a group of friends or going solo! We were there on a Wednesday so it wasn't too busy at all. Our axe host was really nice and showed us how to throw and gave us tips on our form, but we had to let him know we were first timers and ask for the full demo. There's no alcohol served here, but I would recommend this place for a group outing or one of those team building outings and then after your done walk to one of the plethora of bars surrounding the place for a drink and/or food. Good one time experience. A little overpriced in my opinion for throwing axes. I wish they offered price that's not based off per person. If you come with four people and share a booth for one hour, it cost 4x the amount as for one person. But you get less time to throw while you are waiting for your party to take their turn. You might as well book four separate booths and all throw at the same time. Besides that issue, it's fun for 20 minutes and then gets boring after a while. So I would recommend getting 30 minutes and buy another half hour if needed. read more

The place was well organized and managed while still providing that fun, casual atmosphere that makes this kind of sport fun for everyone. The staff was also very welcoming and engaging. My family and I decided to give this place a try and made a reservation to do some axe throwing. This place was incredibly fun! I cannot recommend this family owned business enough! The customer service was great, the shop was clean and it had cute wall paintings. The cool thing about this axe throwing location is that they had fun mini games that went along with the axe throwing instead of just target throwing. They use computer projectors for each of the stalls. Along with target shooting, the mini games included connect four, tic-tack toe, zombie kills, duck hunting, etc. We decided to go a little earlier on a Saturday night and almost had the place to ourselves!
