We were the first game of the day on a Sunday for the Midnight at the Bayou and our GM was very patient. Plenty of parking outside! Unfortunately two of our team members accidentally went to the Red Lantern chinese restaurant that's about 0.5 miles away but he was nice and waited for them to arrive, but definitely don't make the same mistake! Come early to make the most of the escape room and not lose time! The room itself is gorgeous, it really immerses you in the story and the space is so large it was perfect for a team of 5 but can hold even more than that. The puzzle difficulty was not too bad for a team of 3 veterans and 2 first timers, although we took almost the whole hour, some of the puzzles were very straight forward and some may not have been but the answers are generally right in front of you. It was a good mix of Gen 1 and new Gen technology but moreso leaning toward Gen 1. But still did not disappoint at all and the story made the satisfaction of moving forward even better. I wouldn't categorize this room as scary but it has a slightly spooky theme. No in room actors. GM was very helpful and communicative and would jump in to help if we had the right concept but maybe off a smidge especially if our time was cutting close which we appreciated! Overall a pretty great room with great company and not too complex that it would scare away a newcomer, I would say 5-6 people is a good number for this room to conquer puzzles simultaneously! My original review still stands!! Great fun!! We had done the Curse of the Bayou last time (2 teams in separate rooms competing to escape) and this time we went back and did the Midnight on the Bayou (everyone all together room) Escape Room and it was so much fun! Of course it was really challenging for the most part, especially since we aren't experts by any means and most of us have only done one room ever (and one of us had never). It is a very simple set up, not fancy, kind of looked like something you'd see in a local live theater set. Simple, but cute and did the trick for sure. Basically we had to save the souls of 5 students who didn't make it out of a fire during prom night. We had to follow through on their dreams for them. Possibly a little eerie, but not scary at all. Just a mysterious vibe. We did have to get some helpful clues a couple of times but we managed to escape and with TWO minutes to spare! Just in the nick of time!! Make sure you get there early to sign waivers and use the restroom. Parking is in an industrial complex, just look for the little red lantern. We really did have a great time in both of their experiences and continue to talk about it and spread the word about Red Lantern. Our picture was better this time too. THANK YOU!!!! read more

My boyfriend and I played the Cozy Curse made for parties of 2-4 people and loved the experience. The space was really clean and the clues were thought out well. We were a little rusty but the game master was very gracious in giving us not so obvious hints. The room did have a dim spooky element that kept us on our toes. We really enjoyed our experience and will come back with more friends/family to work on the bigger escape room. read more

My experience at Red Lantern Escape Room was beyond great! It was a party of 10 of us. We were split into teams of 2, 5 in each team which made it even more exciting because both teams were determined to win. It's a bit spooky but, nothing that will give you nightmares or that you can't handle. I loved the theme & overall it was such a fun experience and a great way to practice communication and team work skills. It was fun! I would love to come back and try the bigger escape room. The staff is kind, on point with the theme, & very clear on explaining how the escape rooms work. The place is also clean. Plenty of parking outside. Score: 10/10 Buzzwords: Aesthetically Gorgeous, Straightforward, Excellent Props Came here with some incredibly witty friends of ours to take on this escape room which I had had my eyes on since pre-COVID era. Having completed 15+ escape rooms of all different themes - artificial intelligence, Cold War, 007, Harry Potter, Circus, Hyde & Jekyl, etc... - I had high expectations. TLDR: This escape room KILLED IT. Parking for this escape room is abundant and the outside location is easily marked by a PHYSICAL RED LANTERN. The reason for emphasis is that if you aren't careful like I was and haphazardly click the first selection when you type "Red Lantern" on Waze, you will in fact be routing yourself (and potentially your party) towards a restaurant called Red Lantern ~ 1.1 miles away from the actual location. Luckily, our game master Justin was very understanding about my faux pas. Not only that, but Justin's showcasing and delivery of the room as well as of the tale at hand we were about to embark upon really helped set the tone for such a great experience. Without spoiling anything, the clues were just enough to require some critical thinking skills without being overly complicated. More than that, several clues required some fun collaboration as well as strong communication between you and your party members. Overall, this has to be in my top 3 list of all time escape rooms completed to date. The color palette, theme, and clues were so well thought out and afforded one's group to either collaboratively solve problems or divide and conquer. Had the developers made another team escape room at this location, we would have certainly signed up the next day. read more

My first time doing an escape room for team building. There was 8 of us, we definitely had lots of space! I truly enjoyed it, and was able to solve some clues even though I'm not the greatest at it. The guy working was great! I enjoyed his commentary and from start to finish he was a character! I'd definitely say it was challenging but we survived with 20 seconds left! We enjoyed Midnight on the Bayou a lot. It is family owned and operated which makes this place so charming. The huge space allows you to run around freely and explore. It could accommodate large groups but we did it comfortably with just four and finished in record time. The puzzles were straight forward and satisfying to solve. Came here with a group of 10 to celebrate a friend's birthday and had a great time! This spot is located in a business center type of area, so there's plenty of parking outside (on a Wednesday night at least). The host/game master, Roy, was very welcoming and did a solid job of explaining the room. We did the Curse of the Bayou room, which was a competitive-style room (split into 2 teams of 5). Our group had a rather wide range of experience levels, from first-time escape room goers to pretty experienced folks. This room was interesting because it wasn't timed; rather it was a competition to see which group could escape the quickest. Overall, I thought the puzzles were pretty good for a mixed crowd like ours and would recommend this room for new to intermediate escape room participants! read more

Came here with my coworkers and it was a blast. We did the Curse mystery and it was exciting. Trying to figure out the clues in certain ways and laughing meanwhile. There are choices to have for whic mystery you'd want to solve. You can either choose 1 big room to solve with up to 10 people or so. I wouldn't consider myself an escape room expert, but I've done my fair share of rooms around the area and have a good sense of what makes a quality experience. First off, I really appreciate the energy and enthusiasm of our game master, Roy, who is part of this family-owned business. He was friendly and made sure everything ran smoothly. We had high hopes coming in for Midnight on the Bayou, especially after seeing the website's claim that this was the "biggest" escape room in Southern California. We were expecting a sprawling maze with multiple sub-rooms, but instead, the entire game took place within a single square office space. There were little to no hidden doors or secret rooms leading us to new stages, which was a bit of a letdown considering the hype. The mazes also fall short, some require too much outside knowledge, like specific literature references, while others are overly simplistic. Don't expect to use props or tools to help solve other puzzles, either. They're all anchored in specific areas of the room. While you'll need to write things down, you won't be able to reference your notes later since they're placed at opposite ends of the space. Make sure you bring someone with outstanding memory. I believe there are several areas where this room could improve, especially given the competitive nature of escape rooms. Many top-tier escape rooms offer mind-blowing experiences with advanced, high-tech gameplay mechanisms, setting a high bar for others to meet. My friends and I have never done an escape room before, and we decided to go here for our first time. We had a blast! So much of a blast that we decided to book the other escape room this place offers the next day! Both escape rooms were great, and you can really appreciate the fine details the owners put attention to when creating these rooms. Curse of the Bayou - This escape room is 4-10 players, and it is a race against the other team instead of time. We decided on this because we like to be competitive. We were a party of 7, so the split was 3v4 which was fine because one of the rooms was harder. They not only did a great job on the escape room portion overall, but they also made it fun to slow the other team down through little tasks. The story was very interesting and the execution was fantastic. It was crazy to see how much they were able to accomplish in a real life setting. Midnight on the Bayou - I feel like we should have started with this escape room first, so that the Curse of the Bayou would be more fun since we didn't have much experience with escape rooms in the first place. This escape room is 4-12 players, and it is cooperative. 12 seems like a lot, and I can see why the maximum is set to it. There were a lot of tasks to the story and I'm not sure if we could have done it if we didn't split the work. It was so exciting to see everything come together with such an interesting story. For my first time doing an escape room, I am glad I chose this place. The owners here truly love what they do, and that made the experience so much better. read more

Justin was so accommodating to our Yearbook Club in Midnight on the Bayou. We took our 5th and 6th graders from Yearbook Club. There was lots of space for a large team, plenty of puzzles to split up and work on. The effects were exciting and dramatic drawing the kids into the spirit of the game. Some puzzles were quite challenging, giving the kids a sense of accomplishment and victory as they solved. The was a huge bonding experience for our students and we made lifetime memories. read more
