This hotel is teeny tiny and pretty over priced for what you get (though I was surprised overall at the high prices of lodging in Dublin). My friends and I got a triple room, and two of the twins were pushed together in a double. We asked the night receptionist if we could get them separated and she sort of abruptly said "unzip them". (That wasn't the right answer - what about the fact that we had one sheet set and comforter and no way to set up one bed into two). We ended up having an awkward bed share night that we had specifically tried to avoid in advance, so that was annoying. Breakfast is sad - some cold cereal and bread and some juices from boxes. Coffee is powdered. When I checked under the bed for a ring I thought I had lost, I saw maybe why they didn't bother to separate the beds - the floor underneath was disgusting, with food and dirt and dust. There is no lobby to speak of, just a narrow hallway where the receptionist sits. There are elevators, which is nice and was about the last elevator I saw in the rest of my Ireland hotels. The location is good, within walking distance to Temple Bar and the Guinness Storehouse and some of the other receptionists and the bartenders were nice. All in all, it wasn't horrible, but there is probably a lot better for the amount it cost. read more

The hotel had good placement, we could just walk to Temple Bar and loads of restaurants and shops. It had a nice looking bar attached and the price for the night was low. The room had a standard according to the price. Actually a little bigger than expected, but the view was horrible. Looked straight into another room or down a messy and dirty backyard. However, we were not staying for the view, so that was really no biggie. What gave this hotel our low opinion was the (lack of) cleaning. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months, there was hair and dust and dirt all over. We actually felt like and did clean the bathtub before we intended to use it, but after cleaning the hope for a nice and warm bath quickly died when firstly the water was only luke warm at it's hottest, and secondly, but most importantly, it was filled with brown dirt floating around in the water! The cleaning staff looked more interested in taking cigarette brakes than doing their job, smoking often and for long periods on time just outside the hotel windows, throwing their cigarettes down on the ground below. We will not return to this hotel ever again. read more

1/1 found this review helpful A view of a room on the 4th floor - The day we were leaving :( We stayed at this hotel because it was, at the time, the most affordable hotel that was centrally located and offered a full breakfast! We were right next to alot of the shops and fun places to hit up - everything you would really want to do was within 2-3 minute walk down O'Connell Street. The hotel is small, and if you walk past it, and didnt look close enough, you would probably miss it. The staff was always very friendly, and they lock the front entrance at night. When you come in, they check your name on the list to make sure you are registered at the hotel - which made me feel safe. The breakfast was great - and it was made quicker then any breakfast I had ever had. We would go up and get our drinks, and the woman would come out, ask how we wanted our eggs, and 2 minutes after we sat down - we had a wonderfully hot FULL Irish Breakfast that I couldn't complain about one bit. As far as appearance, everything was pretty neat and clean, although one floor had paint peeling all off the walls (it looked as if they were preparing to work on it). Our room was always spotless from the cleaning staff, and they even organized our books, food and toiletries. When I come back and stay again in Dublin, and believe me I will, the Abbey Hotel will be at the top of my list when looking into places to stay! read more

We stayed in the Abbey Hotel last year (2016) and thought it was a great spot, but it appears that the hotel has gone through some renovations and is that much better. Again, it is not an Hilton or Hyatt, but it is very quaint, very clean, with great people working there. It also has a fantastic location close to Temple Bar and across the street from a shopping center (if that is your thing). It is walking distance to almost everything to see in Dublin, and, of course, it is adjacent to a bar and restaurant ... if you don't even want to leave the premises. Overall, I definitely recommend this place for visits to Dublin. read more

Never got to stay here...booked my room well in advance, but upon needing to change it because I added a stop in Belfast...I got no response from the Abbey about my change. I tried to email 2-3 times...even tried to call. Nothing. Finally had a friend in Dublin go by...nobody there and the barmaid next door said they'd been closed for a couple of weeks. Wow...thanks for the heads up...because I really WANT to be "homeless" in a strange city! Never did find out what happened, but when I cancelled my room it was right back to available on their booking engine. Thankfully my credit card company was able to refund my small deposit, so the only thing I was out was my time...which was fine since I had a GREAT stay at Farrington's right in Temple Bar. I stayed for a week at the beginning of September 2012 with my sister. It wasn't hard to find at all, i used google map to see what buildings were by it since reviews said it was easy to miss. We arrived early and only had to wait 30min for our room to be ready for us. Which was nice after flying and dealing with the airport. The room had 2 twin beds, nicely made, everything was neat and clean. There's little things i look for in a room that others may not....but for women this may be helpful.....there's a big mirror in the room that's next to a socket. So it made doing hair and makeup very easy. There's also a wardrobe with hangers for your clothes. The bathroom was also a nice size. They supplied soap, body wash, shower cap, and towels (not face clothes), The staff was great and helpful. Even when we came back after hours, somebody always answered the door (after ringing the bell) within seconds! You can walk to Jervis and Ilac mall within 3min. Temple bar within 7. Dublin Castle and Grafton Street within 15min. I even made the walk all the way to Harcourt street. If you don't wanna walk the bus is down the block and cabs are always waiting around the corner. Very easy to get around from Abbey Hotel. The reason why i gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because.... every morning around 8am i could hear people throwing out trash (glass) for 30min straight. If you are gonna be up before that you may not care. I also slept with the windows open. Oh they also have a computer that you can use for a cheap fee! It broke down the day after i got there.....but there's an internet cafe on O'Connell. I would stay here again. read more

The Abbey was renovated in 2014/2015. Our room was clean and the staff was helpful. We had some pretty hilarious conversations with some staff members and customers. The Abbey's location can't be beat. Shopping area is steps away and Temple Bar is just across the bridge. The first week of our trip was an organized business trip. The second week was on our own. We enjoyed the Abbey more than the 5 star hotels we stayed at the previous week. read more

This hotel is SO SMALL. I pay €300+ for something that is worth a fraction of that. I pull up to the hotel expecting to see an entrance and at least a lobby or something. But no.. the hotel is hidden and there is no semblance of a lobby. a small narrow corridor with a receptionist awaits you on this "wonderful journey". i can't check in until 2pm and i've arrived with all my heavy ass suitcases at 12pm so i have to leave everything with the receptionist which i was very opposed to. i take one of my more expensive backpacks with my to be precautious. so i arrive back at 2pm, i check in, get to a room to see nothing that i had reserved beforehand. i had reserved a KING size bed and one single bed. I at first saw three single beds almost scattered throughout the room. I go back down and tell the receptionist that this isn't what i ordered and she tells me like "oh i'm sorry, things got mixed up" yeah, sure they got "mixed up". She gives me a new room with the correct beds but this room is so goddamn small that I had three people with me and we had no room to fit anything anywhere. the room was disgusting, broken pieces of the door, broken mirror, etc etc. after all this calamity, i found that something was missing from my luggage of great importance. seemingly just after i had left all my bags and suitcases with the receptionists . but anyways i sleep in this hotel and tomorrow i wake up to my continental breakfast which consisted of spoiled milk and expired cereal. the milk tasted so sour i almost vomited. so i run down to the bathroom after this to see a toilet with no lid and nothing on it. after being disgusted enough i come up to the main floor to only see the same receptionist that i left my bags with tending bar. this experience has been horrible and i DO NOT recommend anyone go to this shitty hotel. read more

We appreciated how the Abbey Hotel was able to accommodate us last-minute when our other hotel reservation fell through, and the location was very convenient. However, hotel service was poor. The first day, they neglected to clean our room and were very reluctant to give us fresh coffee cups or towels when we went to reception to ask for them. The staff was sometimes hard to track down too. This hotel was not clean in general, and the room was so small we could not leave a suitcase open. It was also very noisy at night because of the surrounding bars and restaurants (and seagulls). read more

Very, very nice. Right in the heart of it all. Rooms have been renovated and they still smell like paint. The staff was AMAZING. Helpful and kind with every request and tips around town. Room is a large size and very comfortable for us and our two children. Location is perfect. Quieter since its across the river, but five minute walk to temple bar, shopping and major tourist sites. We went all week with no car. Breakfast was good. Staff are accommodating and service is excellent. There was bacon, sausage, cereal, eggs, and more. Would definitely recommend to anyone, especially families who need a comfortable, quiet night's rest, but still want to be close to the action. read more

Most of the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Their website says free wi-fi in lobby-they mean only in the lobby. We stayed on first floor and couldn't pick up signal. There were two days when we did not get any hot water. The only man assured us they were trying to fix it. The rooms are rather small but we really only needed a room for shower, sleep and store our stuff so it was adequate. There is a pub/club located within the hotel but we did not experience any problems in the hotel itself. Outside the hotel, a bit of a different story. There is a club a few doors down that held concerts a few nights. Men from there would come by or right in front of Abbey door and just pee away. The hotel itself is not easily visible, you really have to take notice to the signs on the buildings and door. The Twisted Pepper next door is more obvious. The housekeeper did her best to clean our room and keep things stocked. The hotel is located two minutes from O'Connell street making it easy to walk around city centre. Overall, it was an ok stay but if you are looking for a basic room to sleep, shower, and keep your belongings. read more

I like this hotel. I have booked it now a few times for friends and family who visit me in Dublin and have never had a bad experience. The rooms are nice, clean, and the staff are brilliant. They don't have a lift, but if you are not bothered with a few flights of stairs you are fine. As it is an older structure the rooms are a bit on the small side, but sure, as are all the other hotel rooms in the city centre and pretty much every other major city in Europe. The restaurant here is really good (Bar 52, reviewed separately) and worth having a dinner or two here even if you are not staying. The location is in the best possible place if you are coming to the city centre and just a 2 minute walk to Jervis or O'Connell Street. Can't go wrong with the location or price. read more

At first glance I hated this place..My son and I stayed for 5 nights and in spite of the fact there was no lift and we had to walk up three flights of stairs to our room where I first had issues with the water and the lighting until I got used to the way it worked. The staff...absolutely wonderful!!! I will have great memories of the Abbey Hotel and I know my son will too. If I return to Ireland and it's still open for business I shall be a guest. BTW...if you are looking for a five star hotel in regard to type of accommodation you will find this hotel falls short, however if you want a clean comfortable room to sleep in after exploring the city all day and a place for a relaxing bath this place has my vote. As for the internet..there's an internet cafe a few doors away and one also on O'Connell Street. Oh and btw, the oriental buffet a few doors away has a very good and appentizing all you can eat buffet for only 7.50 euros! We didn't eat any meals at the Abbey but it's not because we couldn't , just wanted to go and explore other options in the day. read more
