Despite a fantastic first impression of the beautiful grounds and a warm welcome from Sarah at reception, myself and my boyfriend's experience was very disappointing. Even though a couple of lovely staff members improved our stay, we won't be back. They are the only reason we gave two stars.
We arrived early to see the town before we checked in. Sarah was great, asking what we liked, telling us things to do and see, she said check in was 15:00. We got back just before four to be told by someone else that our room wasn't ready. We waited in the bar, listening to the manager on duty apologising about the delay to people who arrived after us, without acknowledging us.
By 16:50 we were fed up, we had dinner booked for 19:00, still nothing had been said to us and others had been able to check in. At that stage I just wanted to go home. Spending nearly €200 for a night away and we still hadn't gotten to our room by 17:00. We went back up to once again be told it would be a bit longer, the room was still being cleaned. The manager eventually said he had just been to our room; they were hoovering so it would be ten minutes. The first words he had uttered to us and the same thing we had been told an hour before.. still no apology. They tried to find another room but that wasn't ready either.
We eventually got up to our room at around 17:15. Sarah was so apologetic and polite while the other blonde lady at reception was just rude. A lovely lady, Sheila, saw us looking around and helped us with directions to our room. She was also working in the bar when we went for dinner. Sheila was so pleasant and kind, and a breath of fresh air after everything else. She was so apologetic about the whole thing. Arlene looked after us in the bar too. They really did their best to make up for everything else that had happened. The next morning after sleeping on the unbroken single bed that made up half of the double; we had to cut breakfast short due to the radiator beside us starting to steam and leak everywhere, flooding the floor quite a bit. If that wasn't bad enough they brought out dirty table cloths full of left over food (presumably from the night before) to mop up the water. So along with the growing puddle was leftover rice, chips, veg, and god knows what else, just what you want first thing on a Sunday morning while eating breakfast.. We were asked to move tables but we just wanted to leave. Thank god for those three ladies. They were just wonderful, such friendly, polite women, they couldn't do enough for us. They really turned our night around. Maybe they could teach their manager and the other lady at reception a thing or two about manners. So thank you Sarah, Sheila and Arlene, you really made our stay! read more
