A conveniently located hotel in the city centre and walking distance to many bars, shopping areas, ethnic cuisine, and attractions. There's nothing extravagant about the rooms, what you pay for is convenience and proximity to other places. My room came with a double sized bed, and a wall mounted TV, and not much more beyond that. You'll need to bring your own toiletries aside from wash soap. The WiFi has a good signal and you can stream on your laptop and use your phone with little hassle. Their gym was disappointing with only a couple treadmills and a cable gym setup. Their restaurant and bar within the hotel (Plaza Bar & Grill) is nice but it's pricey. You're better off walking the streets and eating around like the good tourist you are.

This hotel is located in a perfect location for my most recent stay in Dublin: very close to my daughter's student residence and just off busy O'Connell Street, Dublin's main thoroughfare. I was pleasantly surprised with Academy Plaza Hotel! Yes, the rooms are a bit dated but mine was very clean and quiet, the bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom had a shower/bathtub! I stayed in 7 different hotels over my European trip and this one was the only one that had a bathtub! Also, I noted another reviewer complained about the fact that you need to put a room key card in a slot near the entrance in order to activate the power in the room and that it turned off when you removed it (so they could not power their devices while they left for the day). This is how it is done in every one of the 7 hotels I stayed in during my recent trip- from Ireland to the UK to Spain. While it may be annoying to American travelers, it is a brilliant way to conserve energy. You get used to it. We also took advantage of the hotel's bar and grill. It was nice to have a place to go off the lobby when we checked in so late. I was surprised at how tasty the pizza was (especially since I am originally from Chicago)! Of course, we had cold glasses of Guinness to go along with the pizza! Since we made our reservation directly from their website, breakfast was included for free! It wasn't my favorite hotel breakfast but I was surprised at how much they offered. A hot, traditional Irish breakfast! The potatoes are hard and not good but most of everything else was fine, including some yummy pastries. And they have an espresso/cappuccino machine - which kind of makes up for everything. It is super hard to complain about anything considering how much we ended up paying. They had a winter deal when we went and I paid less than 1/2 of what I paid at a different hotel around the corner when we first arrived in Ireland at the start of our trip. Plus the staff is super friendly and accommodating and a 747 Airlink Express bus stop is located directly in front of the hotel! If I am lucky enough to get back to Ireland while my daughter is a student there, I would not hesitate to stay here again!

    Falling apart wardrobe

Absolutely the most disgusting hotel in Ireland. This is literally 1 step better than a hostel. Reception is rude, rooms are ridiculous small, and the linens and towels are gross.

Pros: -Decent location -Staff is fairly nice. Cons: -Only wifi in one small corner of our room, so we spent many nights in the lobby or sitting by the bathroom trying to get service. Do not book this hotel if you need reliable wifi in your room. -The 4-person room looks nothing like the photo on the website. I feel deceived--the beds are practically on top of each other, all in a line. Not all the 4-person rooms are like this, but you may end up with one. There should really not be more than 2 people in this room. -Only two outlets in the entire room (in the same area) and none in the bathroom -Bathroom trash can is super tiny and you need to step on it to open it. Bottom line: would not recommend the 4 person room unless it's for a couple and two very young children who wouldn't be bothered by the lack of privacy or wifi. Good for 1-2 people who won't be staying long.

    Small, but clean rooms.

Recently stayed here and had a very good experience. Friendly greeting at reception. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Our first room we were given had a really poor Wifi connection, so the hotel manager pleasantly reassigned us to a different room and never had that problem for the remainder of our stay. Rooms are a little on the small side with little to no space for luggage storage, which made navigating the room a bit of a rigmarole. However, our room was spotless and came with plenty of extra towels. Bathroom was very clean. Complimentary teas and coffee also were in both rooms we had. I think the best part about this hotel is its location. Situated on Upper O'Connell Street, this hotel was a 5 minute walk to a lot of major shopping spots, cafes, etc., and about a10 minute walk to Temple Bar if that. The hotel's bar stayed open a late, so it was nice to be able to come back and have a night cap before bed. Also, there is a not so bad sports bar directly next door to the hotel if you wanted to catch a game and a have drink. Would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

tiny bathroom - no storage - small towels - basic -

very clean - local - however not impressed with the front desk folks - any of them - barely cordial - no storage in the rooms - where the heck do they think we're going to put our clothes? could have been much better

My first ever time in Ireland and this hotel wasn't bad. There were a lot of pros and cons but overall good stay. Let's start with the pros. The hotel was relatively inexpensive which is nice if your on a budget. The location was perfect. The center of Dublin and it was convenient and close to everything. I loved saving money on taxi cab fares because walking was perfect. Another pro was that a lot of the tours had a pickup that was right next store so that was lovely. The staff was helpful and very sweet and that's always a bonus. On to the cons. The rooms are very small. Think very small studio or a room in a ship. If your looking for some place quiet this is not the hotel for rebar. There's a bar and pub connected and you can hear the pub patrons till the wee hours of the morning. If your young and enjoy the party life or don't mind noise this is your place, but if your looking for serenity and peace and quiet not so much. Overall I had a good stay and I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the temple bar area and even the zoo. Make sure you get your discount for parking as it makes a huge difference in the cost to park a car. I loved the coffee machine they had, but the sausage and eggs were not for me. We arrived from an overnight flight at roughly 9:30 a.m. and they were still prepping rooms but they stored our luggage and recommended a location to grab something to eat which was very good. Upon returning about 45 minutes later our room was ready and we found the room to be meticulous with a very comfy king bed, mini fridge, tv, and ample size bathroom. I saw a few other reviews that stated the bathroom doors would not stay open but I learned that is by design and we just asked for an extra towel that we used to prop the door open when needed. It serves to point out that the entire hotel is under a complete remodel so many of the rooms and features of the hotel are shinny new. They do offer breakfast in the morning and for the evening they do have a restaurant and bar. Just walk out the front door if you want a livelier crowd and more restaurant options The location of the hotel is prime as it offers proximity the River Liffey, plenty of shops, pubs, and attractions. We walked to the Jameson (25 min walk) and Guinness (30 min walk) factories as it also gave us the ability to take in things along the walk. You are close to Trinity College and both St Patrick's and Christ Church Cathedrals. lastly, I cannot say enough about the staff, Anne at the front desk was a warm and inviting pleasure and very professional, Marvin the concierge and bellman was super helpful and pleasantly informative, the house staff was attentive and always looking to make sure we were comfortable. The Brooks comes with my highest recommendation.

To get the cheapest itinerary it made sense to have a layover in Dublin, even though it was truly never on our must-see list. We had no regrets! Although Dublin is cold/windy/was even hailing during our May 2016 stay here, it was worth a 1 night layover (and a great way to adjust with jetlag before the big trip began). As for the Maldron, it is imperative to take a Taxi if you are traveling with any more than 2-3 people, because it ends up being cheaper than taking the airport bus. I believe it was about 35 Euros for the cab ride each way, a smooth 35 minute ride. The hotel is a bit aged but had recently been gutted. It is clean, in a safe, quiet (Extremely quiet) neighborhood. If you enjoy walking, it is an easy 15-25 minute stroll to the main downtown area and restaurants. There is also a tram within 5 minutes of the hotel. We found that late at night it was difficult to get a bite to eat near the hotel and thus had to walk into the main strip/downtown area. The hotel staff are kind and quick to respond to any requests and issues. One note is that when going to the airport, if you want to save 2 Euros hail a cab yourself, because any time you have to call ahead of time for a cab the 2 Euros fee is charged!

This made it easy for us as we could continue exploring according to our plan (we took a 30 minute train ride over to Howth right after dropping our bags). Coming back to the hotel around 5pm, our room was ready and we were able to nap a bit before dinner. The superior room we booked was located in a renovated section of the hotel and had access to a shared outdoor patio right across from our hotel room. We didn't have time to use the patio but it was spacious and it seemed no one was using it whenever we passed by. Our hotel room was very clean, large (great for us as we had plenty of luggage) and we had two complementary water bottles in the room. We had breakfast the next morning and it was buffet style. There is a section if you want fresh made omelettes. Lots of variety I think but I stuck with the classic Irish breakfast items. So delicious and fresh!
