Stopped in on a weeknight around 7 pm with no reservation and were able to get seated downstairs in the basement/bar section which was really nice. The ambiance was dark with wall lights which made the vibe comfortable. My friend and I ordered a couple drinks (sangria & espresso Martini) and the drinks were amazing and the service was super friendly and quick. We ordered the poutine, mussels, and a salmon dish and the food was amazing and we ended up staying until 11:30 pm. The Abbey is open until 2 AM so there were still a lot of people inside when we left. Would definitely come back and bring others here.

Basic Witches

Decent spot - cocktails are creative, staff is laid back and welcoming. Smashing pumpkins didn't have as much pumpkin flavor as expected, basic witches and evil spirits were solid. Food is always good.

Was looking for late night food and this place popped up. Nice pub/bar vibes right along Mass Ave which is always fun. Started with an order of wings which were really good, paired with their blue cheese--yum. I ordered the burger for my entree which was just okay, a little dry. I did like the fries. I tried a few bites of the steak entree and that was good! Sangria was okay, probably should've gotten a beer instead, but there's always next time! For 1am food I enjoyed it...but wasn't blown away, except by the wings. I'd like to come back and try some of their other things.

Bison bolognese

I've been going here with my grandma since college and I don't have any complaints! Food is good and service is always on point. They have specials so you can always get some variety in their food. At this point, I've tried everything on their menu.. Some of my favorites: -deviled eggs -burger add duck egg and bacon: the duck egg is a game changer trust me on this! You can also sub the fries for salad if you'd like. -bison bolognese: they use fresh pasta, you can definitely taste the difference. The sauce is to die for, so tasty! -eggs Benedict: they recently started doing brunch again and I'm a sucker for any eggs Benedict. Their home fries were delicious; crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. -pan roasted cod with potato: they always cook the cod so perfectly. The sauce is so creamy and pairs well with the crispy potato hash on the bottom.

We made early dinner reservations at The Abbey to have a birthday celebration. We are so glad that we did! We ended up with a high top table in the downstairs seating area which was comfy. The staff was quick to engage with us, make suggestions, and take our order. We really enjoyed the chicken confit lollipops. So super tender and tasty. Wish there was one more in the order. I had the pork schnitzel special. It was amazing. Perfectly breaded and piping hot. Came with some yummy fingerling potatoes. We also had the bison bolognese come to the table. It was hearty and delicious! An order of gnocchi was our final large plate order. It was creamy and super tasty. Since it was a birthday dinner, we had to have a dessert. They only have two choices, but the chocolate chip brownie sundae was amazing and totally enough for three to share. I'd definitely come back!

In town for work and stopped here for dinner last night. It did not disappoint!! From the bartender to the food we couldn't have been happier! Sat downstairs at the bar and it was super quiet and comfortable. Would highly recommend! Thank you!

Came here for drinks before dinner on a Tuesday evening and the place was decently busy with several seats taken. The bartender was really friendly and took our orders with ease as well as served us water pretty efficiently. He made drinks quickly as well and everything was pretty good. The sangria I got was super tasty, fruity, and relatively light. The food we saw other folks getting looked pretty good, but we didn't have time to try it. I'd love to come back to try more of the things on their menu in the future - definitely smelled great as well!

Fried. Chicken drumsticks and jalapeño Mac and cheese.

Accommodating for people with food allergies. Have a separate gluten free menu, and the GF burger bun is very delicious!

Ask the Community - The Abbey

Is there outdoor seating?

Yes, it's a built-out space on the street but with walls and roof.

Do they serve beer in pitchers? Or just glass?

I went to Sally O'Brien's on a Friday night to see the band Ghosts of Jupiter. I learned in advance…read morethat they do serve food there so I decided to have my pre-show meal there. I arrived at 7:30 and was seated right away (it wasn't that busy yet). I was seated at a high top and not sure if there was wait staff or if I just self serve at the bar. The bar was close to me (Sally's is relatively small) so I walked over to the bar, ordered a beer (Lamplighter IPA, very good) and asked for a menu. The bartender offered to come over and take my order but when I had decided what I wanted I saved him the trip and walked back over to the bar to order. I got the Sally's Burger: 8oz burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. The bartender delivered the food very quickly and to order (medium rare). The burger was excellent and came with well seasoned French fries and a dill pickle spear. It was an excellent meal and reasonably priced. Not long after eating, the band started and the place was hopping! They have a unique stage set up where the backdrop is the windows to the street. It was entertaining to watch people on the sidewalk stop and listen for a minute. The sound quality is excellent. I looked ahead at their entertainment calendar and saw a lot of good shows. There is no doubt I will be returning to hear some great local music and enjoy an excellent meal and cold beer!

Labor Day weekend in Boston for work, and my hosts brought me here after dinner at a German…read morerestaurant nearby. In my travels I see a lot of "corporate" pubs; this is not that. It's a local watering hole type place, with an easy vibe. A loquacious patron whose name I did not get told me the owner was sitting at the other end of the bar, and I believe it, because it felt like family inside, like a real Irish pub. There was an incredible band playing Irish music with no cover charge, and the drink prices were very good. Add in good bartenders and a dog-friendly patio outside, and you've got the best Irish Pub in Boston, IMHO. Glad to have found it; hope to return on next visit. Very fun night, and highly recommended. OMG I'm starting to almost like Boston.
