I have been here a couple of times now and always sat at the bar. Love the staff, as they are very kind and on top of their work! Atmosphere and vibes are awesome! Sushi is really good and rumor has it that they use real Wasabi I finally tried the Crispy Rice Tuna Truffle during Happy Hour and I was so happy that I only paid $12. Although the ingredients are expensive, it's not something I would order again. I expected a more golden fry on the Crispy Rice all around (it fell apart in my hands at times). I could not taste the truffle (and yes i have tasted real truffle before, so I know what it's supposed to taste like in a dish). The Tuna didn't have a bright color to it. I wish the Menu matched the elegancy of the space, because it is very beautiful in there. All in all i plan to go back there a few more times and try other items that they have read more

Ok 698, I give you five stars all the way. And for just opening a few weeks ago, that's saying something! This new restaurant, which is a "sister" restaurant of 1126 down the street, just opened in October and took over the old El Segundo. They updated the space by adding a sushi bar, new murals on the walls, hanging umbrellas and cherry blossoms, but if you came to El Segundo often (like me), you can still see a few remnants from the past. The menu includes everything from sushi to specialty dishes from the kitchen like udon and fried rice. It's a rather big menu and it took a hot minute for my guest and I to decide on things, but every choice we made was a good one. We both started with a cocktail and I went with the gin and tea. It was the cutest thing, came out in a tea cup. It was so funny, I don't know why, but I took off the lid thinking it was going to be hot, but of course, it wasn't. The vessel definitely confused my mind. That being said, it was heavenly. As for appetizers, the crab rangoon tarts were interesting and nothing like you would expect when you order the typical crab rangoon. There's three and they are baked. Very yummy. I also got a shrimp tempura roll, which is very basic I know, but I tend to judge the sushi at a spot based on something basic before jumping in full force with a $20 roll. It was in fact delicious, so I can definitely see myself coming back for more sushi. For my entree I went with the yaki udon with shrimp and it was freakin' amazing. I'm not a big leftover girlie, but I took every bite I had left and enjoyed it for dinner the next night. The noodles were the absolute star of the show. Seriously, the best thing out of everything I ate. We ended our meals with dessert. The mushroom shaped mousse dessert with a berry compote inside was so cute to look at and delicious to eat. The Japanese style tiramisu was also good, but a wee bit dry. Overall, the kitchen here knows whats up! I'll end on the service. Our waitress was lovely, attentive, and helpful when we asked questions about the menu. Every direction she steered us in was a good one. I can't wait to come back and explore the menu more. Welcome to the Short North friends. read more

We came here on a Sunday at 11:30 am. Is this prime sushi-eating time? No, not normally. But as a result, we were able to enjoy the beautiful restaurant, the service was fast, and the food was thoroughly enjoyable! I particularly loved the creativity the menu offered, especially with the speciality rolls. They were ave. $20 each. Our waitress was kind, as was the rest of the staff. That being said, after our positive experience, we'll certainly make this our go-to restaurant for this type of cuisine! read more

Really enjoyed our food and drink experience at 698. The food and drinks were extremely tasty. The ambience was welcoming and warm. Where there was needed improvement was service. Our waitress did as good of a job as she could but both drinks and food were very slow to arrive. Our first drinks took over 40 minutes and our food took over an hour. While it was fairly new to open, its wait times like these that were extremely disappointing. With that said, I'll most likely give it another chance once they get their bearings. read more

This spot is a VIBE! From the moment you walk in you can feel the warmth of the decor and hospitality. We were promptly welcomed and seated. We are from Las Vegas, so we know good service and food, and we knew this place was going to be 5 stars! Megan, our server came right over, got drinks going and made us instantly comfortable. She was so knowledgeable and knew what her restaurant had to offer! After ordering we were excited and anticipating the meal. As we enjoyed the ambiance, the manager Barrackus came over and introduced himself. He wanted to make sure we were doing great, and we were! Once our food arrived and saw the presentation...BLOWN AWAY It was gorgeous. The attention to detail was precise and Instagram ready! After the 1st bite we both were in heaven. Barrackus returned and we couldn't help but rave about the selections. He then asked if we had ever had fresh chopped wasabi, we hadn't. He promptly brought over a bowl. GAME CHANGER! Let me tell you I am ruined for any other wasabi option, PERIOD!! Our experience was top notch and I can't say enough good things! When we return, this will definitely be THE stop. I highly recommend you do yourself a favor, indulge in the experience. 100 out of 10, definitely WOULD recommend! read more

Claire should run the place!! Best service I've experienced in a long time! Incredibly welcoming without being overbearing.

We LOVED 698! Our server, Izzy, was absolutely amazing! She was so sweet & gave great recommendations! I strongly recommend the potstickers & pepper steak. It's a little funny that the decorations are almost the exact same as the mexican restaurant prior I def will be back to try more sushi items. read more

After finals were over, I visited this restaurant with a group of friends before we all went out separate ways for fourth year. The restaurant is dimly lit and well decorated on the inside. Our service was amazing. We started with the crab Rangoon tarts. They were different but delicious! I got one salmon and avocado roll and one specialty roll. Both were very delicious and filling by the time I was done eating. I had a great experience and would definitely go back for more great sushi! read more

Great sushi. Great atmosphere. Very good service as well. The cocktails aren't my favorite tasting which is the only reason I wouldn't give a 4/5 star, but they do allow you to print a picture on your cocktail which is cool! read more

My favorite new sushi spot! I still haven't made it in, but I order takeout all the time and it never disappoints. I can imagine the service inside is also top notch as the hostess Brooke went above and beyond to help me with an order I placed on DoorDash. I will certainly be a recurring customer. read more

I was super excited to try this spot out and now I can't wait to go back! My friend and I went this past Sunday and the experience was amazing. The ambiance was cozy and eclectic - perfect for our snowy Sunday or even a weekday classic. We were greeted so graciously by the front of house staff and immediately had a smile on our face. Our server was on top of it! (i really wish i could remember her name cause id give her 5 stars alone) We sat at the booth behind the host stand area. She was so welcoming and engaging and recommended the chili dumplings - LOVED IT just as much as we loved her. We ordered the dumplings, crab rangoon tarts, miso soup, and a few sushi rolls to split. The sushi was so fresh, presented beautiful, and I can't wait to go back and try more of their rolls. The chili dumplings - to die for, crab rangoon tarts were a unique take on the classics, and the miso soup was perfect. We dined a bit later in the evening and everything came out quickly and efficiently but not at all felt like they were rushing us out the door. Overall it was an amazing experience, the food was delicious, and the service was top notch. Thank you 698 for a perfect catch-up, cozy, and energetic dinner, i'll see you again! read more

Yesssss lorrdddd. The 698 is everything and more honey! My bestie & I raved about our experience all night. First let's talk about the spread: Matcha tea plum wine - Mhmmmmm, still thinking about this wine. If you're into moscatos or sweeter wines, you'll love this. Seaweed salad - Good staple. Nothing special but nothing wrong with it. V yummy ! Gyoza - I'm a dumpling gorllllll. And these right here have to be some of the best I've had. Yellowtail roll - I loveeeee a good yellow tail roll and this was super refreshing and light. Yellowtail Jalapeño - Chefs kiss !! Presentation was A1 and again super refreshing with the tastiest sauce. Sweet potato roll - If you've never had a sweet potato roll, you have yet to live. The 698 has a great one and is inexpensive. Eel nigiri - My first time having eel and yes you guessed it.. it was superb. Tako nigiri - Between the eel and the tako, I would go with the eel. The tako wasn't as flavorful as the eel in my opinion. Yaki udon - I did not try this dish but my friend swears up and down that it was delicious. Aside from the food being spectacular, the service was also great. Stephanie was so kind and as was the manager. They really out did themselves and I can't wait for the rest of Columbus to check out this gem. read more

Came in for dinner with my boyfriend on a Friday night, and it was packed! We didn't have a reservation, but luckily, there was some open seating at the bar. The atmosphere and decor were nice, and everything that we ordered to eat was very tasty! However, I do have to note that service was a bit slow. It took 10-15 minutes before a server got to us (and that was only because he noticed that we had been sitting there awhile). Maybe took about 30 minutes before our appetizers came out, and then still awhile longer before our main course. We had both ordered drinks as well, and those also took a long time to come out. I was going to rate 3 stars, but I'm giving them the benefit of doubt because they've newly opened. The food and drinks were really good, they just potentially need more servers to keep up with demand. read more

I had an excellent sushi dinner at The 698. Although advertised as "Asian fusion" they serve primarily Japanese and sushi cuisine. The staff was very courteous, warm, and welcoming, without feeling wooden or forced. Just friendly and happy folks. The host gave me several options for seating instead of just assigning me a table, which I appreciate. The waiter was relaxed and personable while being friendly. My waiter sat down in my booth while taking my order, which is very unusual but came off as a hard working server and not a rigidly controlled employee. I started with the kani salad which was larger than I expected and full of crisp greens, tasty salad dressing, a generous heap of tempura flakes, and imitation crab tossed in Kupi Mayo. Altogether, a pleasant crispy combination of crispy and creamy flavors. My sushi rolls were fresh, tasty, well seasoned, and coated with a reasonable amount of eel sauce. An excellent combination of savory, salty, creamy, and spicy flavors. Really great sushi. There was no "fishy smell" or stale taste, something people are concerned about when eating sushi in a landlocked area like Columbus Ohio. This is 5 star sushi. I must complain about the menu: is a 12 page booklet. Simply too long, too many options, and takes too long to look through. It reminds me of the grocery store aisle with 95 different types of cereal - the dining experience would be better with a 4 page menu and 1/3 as many options. The ambiance at 698 Restaurant is very tasteful and well done: dark moody atmosphere, comfy booths throughout, orange-yellow lanterns throughout the area, dark wood frames framing each area, a well-lit bar with comfy stools, squeaky clean hardwood floors, and linens made from dark, crisp, clean cloth. I would not hesitate to return here for sushi dinner any time. read more

My partner and I walked into this restaurant because it happened to be on our way to our parked car and we were hungry for sushi. One of the best meals I've eaten in a looooong time! The service was incredible - the waiter gave wonderful recommendations (Dreams Come True is my favorite sushi roll of all time now), the manager sent out an extra sauce for the Naruto Roll (jalapeño something), and they were so attentive. The ambience was incredible too - so eclectic and fun, funky and fresh. I loved it in there and I'm so sad we live so far but we've already made an agreement we should go there every year during the Arnold Sports Festival. If you have a chance - EAT HERE!! read more

OMG!!! I loved it here. The atmosphere is amazing. It's classy yet intimate and cozy. The decor is so cute I love the warm colors and the green furniture. For my friends birthday they did a beautiful complimentary cheesecake with a pretty flower and some more. They even lit her a candle. They also gave her a mocktail with a red pisces stamp on the top of the drink. Our waitress was amazing and gave us cute hello kitty stickers to end out the night. The music was also a 10/10..r&b, house music etc. Thank you 698!! read more

So, I just made a decision to get some sushi. I saw a few things on the menu that I love. I ended up having the Red Chili Dumplings and Spicy Tuna Pizza. The drizzle on the dumplings was killer. I poured it on the pizza. The bartender Audrey was amazing. It's great seeing someone excel at their craft. The atmosphere is really cool and I will definitely be back to try more of the menu. I will be a regular over the next few months. read more

Wow wow wow. My friend and I are always looking for bigger and better sushi places in Columbus and this place takes the cake. We did have a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server, Ashley, was wonderful and attentive in reviewing the menu and telling us her favorites, as well as, fan favorites. (Sorry for telling you I Yelp!! But you seriously were wonderful before and after knowing!) Ambiance was quiet and beautifully eccentric. BUT LETS GET TO THE FOOD... first off we ordered the gyoza and they were so delicious we had to run it back and get another order. The crispy tuna cold app was delicious but I will say the rice did stick slightly in your teeth. Flavor of the spicy tuna was 10/10. The sushi rolls we ordered were all so flavorful and fresh. We are already planning our next trip back. With that being said... just book the resy. 10/10 read more

My boyfriend and I went here for a date night and I'm not typically one to go out of my way to leave a review but this place was incredible! Our server, Anthony was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and answered all our questions and made some killer recommendations. We got the Shumai appetizer which was to die for, I would've ordered another if we hadn't ordered more food. I got the tempura California roll which was so good, and the miso soup which was really good. My boyfriend got beef udon noodles from the kitchen which I stole from, the beef was so flavorful and tender and the noodles were so good. Went here on special occasion. Server was friendly but seem to have no training or knowledge. Service was sporadic. I got my food, then my daughter, then our guests,20 minutes later. Discard plates were very slow to be removed. Food quality wasn't nothing special for the price. Then, to top it off, the auto tipped 20% with only 5 diners. So here is bottom line. Eat here myself again NO WAY. Recommend NO WAY. I've been in hospitality for over 30 years, not seeing how this place had so many 5-star ratings. The ambiance was nice, until it lit up at closing like last call at the bar, and we had hardly received our last entree. read more
