Fukuryu is the first ramen place I've tried that lets you customize so many of my favorite extras--mushrooms, fish cakes, and egg. You can also choose your spice level; I went with half chili , and it was perfect for me. Spicy enough to leave a pleasant lingering heat without being overwhelming. I'm glad I read previous reviews because they definitely deliver on the heat they promise. The only downside was that the pork wasn't as tender as the chashu I'm used to in ramen. That said, the rest of the ingredients and the noodles were well-prepared, with great flavor and texture. I would definitely order Fukuryu ramen again. read more

Great experience here at Izakaya Ryu!! They recently changed their name. Amazingly affordable prices, Happy Hour deals that can't be beat, and high quality food. We ordered several skewers which were all very good. We weren't hungry enough to try to ramen but from the people around us it looked very good. I'd highly recommend the pork belly skewer and the sweet potato skewer. The highlight of the meal was the chicken wings - so crispy and flavored. First off the ambience is lovely! Really cool neon wall art, love the colors, there is a private area in the front filled with Sakura flowers, which intensifies the vibes! Immediately OBSESSED with this place. It is super welcoming and cozy inside. We planned on ordering a lot of small plates along side our ramen. I got a sake sangria to try and it was pretty mellow and refreshing. Our table got edamame, karaage, gyoza, a momo binchotan, and then my friend got the vegetarian ramen, my husband got the tonkotsu ramen, and i got the black garlic tonkotsu with an added egg. Everything was so delicious! The karaage was nice and crispy, and the sauce it came with was a little spicy! My friend loved the edamame. They said the gyoza was just okay. The food tasted alright. We tried shoyu ramen 3/5, tonkotsu ramen 3/5, Japanese fried chicken 3/5, chili crisp cukes (2/5). I thought the cucumbers would marinated but it's literally cut up cucumbers with chili flakes. Service was nice and friendly. The ambiance was a nice inside, nothing bad to say but also nothing special. Ordered ramen to go on a rainy Saturday night. This was my first time eating grown up ramen so it's possible I don't love ramen like some people but overall I'd say it was okay. I got the chicken ramen (no spice) which comes with chicken broth and fried chicken. For me the highlight was the fried chicken and egg, both were cooked well (the chicken may have been slightly dry but it wasn't noticeable when soaked in broth) with a good crust on the chicken without being greasy. The noodles (and granted it was carry out) were clumped together despite eating within 15 minutes of pick up. And required some work to not be clumpy. The broth was ok but nothing great in my opinion- a little salty and chicken taste but little other flavors. That said, my friend who eats way more ramen than I do gets a spicy dish and loves this place! read more

The spicy salmon rice bowl was not as successful. It was a big bowl of rice with some salmon and not much else. The menu indicated spring onions and shallots, but those were pretty skimpy in my bowl. I definitely would have enjoyed more toppings, and felt the dish was not worth the price. Ginger lemonade was very ginger-y. More spicy than sweet. Parking is available in the garage behind the restaurant, but that fills up quickly as it is shared with the hotel and several other restaurants. Love this restaurant! Came around 8 on a Friday and we were able to snag the last table. The service is always fast and efficient, but not overbearing. This time we wanted to try the chicken kaarage and the pork belly buns, so our server suggested we try the kaarage buns. So glad we did!! Ramen is in the eye of the beholder, and this eye has beheld some pretty great ramen in recent memory. Sadly, Fukuryu doesn't really measure up in terms of taste or value. Maybe it's one of the better ones in Columbus, so if you're stuck locally it's a decent option. Came here with my girlfriend and her sister. We looked at the posted menu and picked what we thought were decent options. Not sure where she got it from, though there was a coupon for free fried rice with any purchase my girlfriend had which was a nice bonus. The service was good, no complaints there, though it was hard to understand him with both a mask and soft-spoken manner. Once we placed our order at the counter, we found a booth and talked among ourselves while we waited. The food took a while to come out, though it looked quite appetizing when it finally arrived. Ultimately, it was a little disappointing in its blandness, without much flavor or heat to speak of. Many of the broth flavors didn't seem to have infused into the meat, which seems to indicate that they don't cook it for as long as other places do. This was a bit of a let-down, though to be clear the food was still okay, just not that great. I would probably not return here, as there are some other local ramen spots I would like to give a try to get a better feel for the local best. That said, you could do worse than here. I visited Fukuryu Ramen for the first time last night and had a wonderful experience! Since it was my first time visiting, I had some trouble deciding what to order. The employee working the register was very helpful in explaining the menu and helping us decide what to order based on what we like. We both decided on the Red Dragon ramen level 2, and I got panko chicken with mine. I love spicy food, and this level 2 was no joke! My mouth was slightly on fire in the best way possible! I think level 3 would have been too much for me. The broth had excellent flavor, the chicken was perfectly crispy, and I loved the egg that came with it. The only thing I will say is I would have liked there to be more veggie toppings in the bowl such as mushrooms and corn, but you do have the option of paying extra to add those so next time I will try that! I ordered (extra hot temperature) ramen from them about a year ago and it was so inedibly spicy I threw it out (and I love spicy food). They clearly messed the order up, mistaking temperature for spice level, so they mailed me a gift card as reimbursement. Tuesday evening, I went to The Lane location, ordered, and handed the gift card over to pay. It wouldn't swipe and the manager proceeded to have a meltdown about it. I ordered: -Fukuryu Salad ($7.50 plus tax; vegan) -- frankly, a really nicely done salad. You get various kinds of lettuce, including kale, green cabbage, romaine, and maybe some iceberg, along with cherry tomatoes, and crunchy noodles as a garnish, with a sweet salad dressing that works very well. Really great salad. 5/5 -Vegan Ramen ($15 plus tax) -- this was a very generous portion, coming with perfectly cooked and plentiful noodles, slightly sweetened and spiced marinated tofu, wakame (seaweed), corn, shredded bamboo shoots, and green onion. Of course, what makes or breaks ramen is the broth, and the broth was very miso-dominant, with a great, salty, umami character with lots of depth. I savoured every spoonful. Unimpressed. Disappointed. Overhyped. I was SO excited to finally get to Fukuryu Ramen. I've seen the lines out the door onto the sidewalk by Lane Avenue. Read the glowing reviews on Yelp. Yea, 'uh, 'er, well... it wasn't so great. Downright disappointing. I won't be in a hurry to return. Probably won't ever return. Got the SIGNATURE TONKOTSU. It was, well, ok. Granted we were the last order of the night before they closed the kitchen, but the noodles had been cooked some time earlier and left sitting in a bowl like a birds nest drying out. That's downright lazy for a place that specializes in ramen. The broth was fine, ok, but nothing special. Disappointing. Also got the chicken gyoza. They were relatively flavorless, and the portion size was small for the price. And I'm not accustomed to being served straight full-salt soy sauce with gyoza. The pureed jalapeno was interesting, but gyoza isn't usually served with straight soy sauce. Disappointing. Tensuke Express's ramen is exceptionally better. Immeasurably better. And their prices are about 1/3 lower than Fukuryu Ramen. Go there instead. There was absolutely nothing about Fukuryu Ramen that makes me want to return. I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time now, I'm glad I did. This place was delicious. The menu is pretty easy to understand, and you order before sitting down. There are quite a few different options and styles of ramen as well as rice bowls and salads. If you have any questions, the staff was super helpful with explaining. There is a selection of sakes to choose from, beer and Japanese style cocktails. For the under 21 crowd there are Japanese drinks, as well as tea, lemonade and soft drinks. This isn't anything like the store bought ramen cups or top ramen packets, this is the real deal. You think you've had ramen until you come here to realize everything you knew was a lie. The flavors were so well developed and rich, the toppings were fresh and paired perfectly. I had the tonkotsu, it is a thick ramen with pork belly, bamboo, and wood ear mushrooms. The amount of toppings was very generous. I was really impressed by this dish. I also appreciated that on the tables there was chili paste and other seasoning for those of us who like a little heat. I will say I wasn't too fond of the desserts but if you're feeling adventurous and love matcha, give them a try. I definitely want to come back in the near future to try out more of the menu. Fukuryu Ramen is a good place for ramen, but overall could use some improvements. I've been to this location and the Dublin one multiple times and thought I'd finally sit down and write a review. I've had their tonkotsu, miso, and red dragon ramens. The ramen itself is alright. For those who like a chewier noodle (in a good way), their noodles definitely hit the spot. However, the broth is much too greasy for my taste. Generally I don't like to feel weighed down after eating a bowl of ramen and their broth definitely does that to me. The toppings are generally excellent, with the marinated egg being my favorite. If you really like spicy food, I do recommend the red dragon. I've also had other items like the JFC and pork belly rice. Nothing special, especially since the fried chicken did not have the characteristic crisp of those I've had in Japan. I do like the decor and vibe of the place, so I'll still come back and hopefully order other less greasy items.
