Lunch specials // sweet potato roll // tuna roll // salmon roll
Anne L.

Quick tasty sushi place! Got the sweet potato roll lunch special, nice that the veggie option was only $9. The tempura was not too thick and very fresh tasting. The tuna and salmon were also good, seaweed wasn't chewy which is always a good sign. The waiter was nice and attentive.

Oshio staff went above and beyond to give great customer service. Our server was consistently checking on us to give us a good experience and made everything so simple for us. We decided to split an entree to have with our sushi since we knew the rolls would be good, but might not be filling enough. They gave us two plates already split from the kitchen which just made our job of eating it even easier! I can tell you that the rolls were much more filling than we thought they would be and we were struggling to finish the rice. I got the Oshio Roll and he got the Snow Crab Roll and we both throughly enjoyed our meals. We loved the peach sake which tasted like juice and was a great addition to our meals as well. We will 100% be back very soon to have another meal at Oshio and try out more enticing things on the menu! (Maybe this time I'll remember to check-in and get the discount).

We ordered apps and an assortment of sushi. So good! Saturday happy hour was 5-6:30. A nice little discount on cocktails - and they make legit cocktails - and some apps. We got edamame, salmon carpaccio, and crispy rice. Sushi was good, too - some unusual options in here - lots of things topped with scallops, crab salad, cheese, or slices of Serrano peppers. Sushi rice was on point. We also grabbed some tofu bibimbap, who's was just ok. Overall, this is a winner in our book!

Bento Box, Salmon

I ordered Uber Eats from here while traveling for work and was really impressed with the quality and presentation! The beef bulgogi bento box had good portions; the bulgogi marinade was super tasty. It came with salad with ginger miso dressing, 2 pieces of sweet potato tempura, 2 pieces of shrimp tempura (& dipping sauce), white rice, and 4 pieces of sushi (I chose spicy tuna). I also ordered an extra piece of salmon sashimi to try and it was good quality. I was full afterwards. Delivery was quick and efficient to my hotel. I had put a note for utensils and didn't get any, but it wasn't a big deal.

I always want to try Oshio as had been hearing about their sushi and sure it doesn't disappoint. Bonus would be catching on their happy hour, which run through weekday AND Saturday too Majority of my sushi order consist with salmon [which is my favorite]. Freshly made sushi with prefect ratio with the rice. Lovely plating is always a bonus. Since they have ramen on the menu, I have to order and try. It was decent with the broth is quite subtle. On the other hand, their Tempura Udon is up my alley. The dashi broth is umami and the udon cooked just right. I like they serve the tempura on the side, so that it won't get soggy from the broth.

Another perfect sushi experience in Columbus!!! Whenever I eat a meal alone, I feel like I always want to go to a sushi restaurant and sit at the sushi bar. Last night was one of those nights. Oshio is located in a busy plaza in Grandview. Parking was really the only difficulty because the lot is crowded and spots are tight. The restaurant itself is quaint and lovely. I was seated promptly and ordered my usual seaweed salad and the sushi deluxe platter. Everything came out quickly and tasted delicious. I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely come here again!

Loved the ambiance and the service. I would rate the ambiance as 4/5 just because it's not perfect for me but many people visit especially students so it could be 5/5 for them. I could not say anything bad about service so it's 5/5 for me. The food was just okay. Pretty much Americanized. We ordered gyoza (2/5). Not a fan of the sauce. The chicken wings (4/5) were good. Crunchy and pretty tasty. I also ordered pork katsudon ( 2/5)-it's not what I expected. The pork didn't have any taste and it was just pork chop with sauce on the side. And again, not a fan of the sauce. The pork had a nice crunch though. The miso soup was also pretty good-can't complain about it other than I wish it came with entrees instead of having to order it separately for $4.

Will not honor the yelp $5 off offer, even after there were multiple mistakes in my order. The sushi rolls, with the exception of the restaurant namesake Oshio roll, are unimpressive, small, and expensive. The veggie ramen is a very bland broth although the spinach was a nice addition. Largely unimpressed. Passable food but not worth the price or frustration.

It's taking me FOREVER to find good sushi! So I been a little scared to eat seafood up here. From Florida but working here in Columbus. Have Had an incident at another "sushi restaurant " where I got sick so been iffy about trying anything else. I was craving sushi so bad so I finally came here since reviews were all good. LOVE!

This place was recommended to me by a co-worker. And I took them on their word , that the food was good. And best believe the food was good. I ordered the chicken wings, which they were PHENOMENAL! Also I tired the Sushi panini, which was amazing! And then I tried two of special sushi rolls, which was some of the best sushi I have ever had. The service was amazing. Everyone was so kind and the restaurant vibe was very laid back and chill. I truly looking forward to coming back and trying more food on the menu! I definitely would give my overall experience a 11/10!

The food comes out pretty quick considering they are making the sushi by order. I love their sushi options. If I can, I'll get the otoro (fatty tuna) and it's some of the best around Columbus that I've tried so far. They also have delicious cocktails that are well balanced. The only downside is trying to find parking since it's in the Short North. If you're lucky, you can snag a street parking spot near the restaurant.

Midway through my meal, they came around to light a candle at the table, which added such an intimate touch, and gave cozy date night energy in the best way. In fact, I believe I was sitting next to a couple having their first date. 2. Plating (4.5/5) The presentation did not disappoint. Everything came out looking polished and thoughtfully arranged. The edamame stood out because they generous with the flaky salt, which I personally loved. Sometimes places hold back, but this was well seasoned. 3. Customer Service (2.5/5) This is where things started to fall apart a bit. I stood at the front for about 12 minutes before being acknowledged, and the restaurant was nearly empty. I had to make eye contact with someone in the kitchen just to be seated. Service at the table wasn't much better. It took about 15 minutes just to get my drink order taken (which I had to flag the waitress down to order), and by that time I was ready to order my whole meal. I ordered an appetizer along with a couple of sushi rolls and some sake. I'm not sure if the waitress wasn't thinking about it, but she brought my rolls out before she even brought out my appetizer or my drink. The inconsistency was noticeable and took away from the experience. 4. Overall Taste (4.5/5) The food absolutely carried! I ordered a sweet potato roll and the Hoonie Roll, which ended up being my favorite part of the meal. Both were fresh, flavorful, and really well-balanced. Paired with the edamame and sake, everything came together nicely. 5. Overall Experience (3.9/5 ) Taking everything into account, the experience lands just under a 4. The food and atmosphere were strong, but the service created a noticeable disconnect. It's definitely one of those places where you'd go back for the food, but you'd hope the service catches up next time.

We were there around noon on a Sunday so they were not very busy but that was okay with us. I had made a Resy reservation because they recommended it. The interior is decorated very well and the light is slightly dimmed for a nice ambiance! They have really nice, and solid, dinnerware and glassware. We started with the crab rangoon tarts, 3 in an order, and the edamame. The tart shells were so buttery and the filling was the usual luscious crab mix. The edamame comes with salt or spicy, we chose salt. There was enough for all 3 of us. The drinks we chose were the Gin & Tea and the Lychee Martini. Both were delicious and the foam on both were handshaken and so creamy. The Gin & Tea was a surprise winner and I highly recommend it. We ordered 5 rolls. The Naruto, Center, Fantastic, Tiger and Dancing Salmon. I love Naruto rolls without the rice and nori, instead wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber. This one was well made and stayed together when using my chopsticks. It allows the fish to shine! The Center Roll had spicy tuna and a topping of avocado, masago and spicy mayo. It's what you would expect and well done. The Tiger Roll has a mix inside and on top. Each bite was a little different and delicious. The Fantastic Roll was just that! It had a lobster salad inside and slightly scorched Japanese scallops on top. The smokiness of the scallop was surprising and delicate and complemented the sweeter lobster salad. The Dancing Salmon roll had eel inside and salmon outside. I'm not a huge eel fan but this roll I ate and enjoyed. I hadn't had good restaurant sushi since NYC and this was up there with it. Often the conveyor belt would come through with no choices available it almost felt like winning the lottery when there was food available from the belt. Compared to Hokkaido this is night and day. Kind of like the difference between a Holiday Inn and a Marriott Marriott. Both our hotels, but the experience is very different between the two. Also, I prefer Hokkaido because it is truly in all you can eat not because I want to eat a ton of food. It just is that I don't have to be conscious about the number of plates. I'd take from the conveyor belt. Also, there are more options besides sushi. The sushi itself was mid grade at best. I wouldn't call it good but it wasn't bad. I think this place caters is more towards families with children who are there more for the experience and not necessarily for a decent meal?

And after that soft opening with a regular menu, this week they introduced an all-you-can-eat menu as well. So of course I got there as soon as I could. Quite an extensive menu for AYCE too, though not as big as their standard one. And full of interesting stuff. Nigiri, raw rolls, cooked rolls, deep-fried rolls, specialty rolls, apps, ramen, hibachi, and more. I wanted to try everything, but even though I arrived hungry I just couldn't. Maybe 25 years ago I could have eaten twice as much, and when the students hear about this they will clean them out. It's just down from where Japanese Oriental Restaurant used to be, and I used to save up and pig out there with my friends. Now I eat a bit less, but I still figure I had about $60 worth of sushi for $30. I started with seaweed salad- big portion, and very tasty. Fresh and a little spicy. Then unagi- two big pieces, excellent, tender and flavorful. Then maguro- good, melt in your mouth. Next I tried their "dragon eggs"- deep fried avocado with kani and tuna. OMG. Again, a big portion (two whole avocados, halved and stuffed. Finally, two big rolls: the High Street roll with spicy tuna, and the Seashore roll with salmon, kani, and more. Wow. Big, and tasty. Best sushi in town? No, but up there. Really good. Service was great. They open at noon, at least on weekdays, and I was the first one in. The decor is cool- it's an old house, and they have made it modern but with vintage touches. The bathrooms and waiting area are super cool. There's a bar off to one side, a sushi bar in back, and lots of sleek but comfy seating. Also a huge patio and courtyard out front. Free street parking out front (except during rush hour.) Also a small lot in back. Get here. If you like sushi, or other Japanese food, you'll like it. If you like a bargain, you'll love it. $27, yes, not cheap; but for sushi it's not bad, and for AYCE sushi it is a steal. Atmosphere was modern and soothing. You can get ramen, cooked dishes like tempura, salads, all kinds of things. There's a full bar as well, and areas with cozy or romantic seating. The design was actually pretty cool, you could eat with a group or sit up at a bar by yourself and feel very comfortable either way. The sushi menu itself includes more traditional Japanese sushi, which honestly is what I'd recommend from the AYCE menu. They even have sashimi, which is cut thinly- which is fine, if you want more you can just order more, that prevents excessive waste. Most AYCE places wouldn't offer sashimi anyway. But the traditional sushi, sashimi and rolls were the ones we liked best. The more Americanized rolls with the alternative (non-nori) wraps were not as delicious, in our opinion. We couldn't figure out what it was, whether it was the wraps or an ingredient in the chopped sushi roll fillings. But there's a ton on this menu that was good. Will eat here again. Oh and a short note on large groups- maybe this is not the spot to go with a massive group? It's more of an intimate dining experience, although they do seem to allow big groups. I only mention this because I saw a negative review about slow service for large groups before we went and then the evening we went a group of maybe 10-12 college students impatiently waited by the door to be seated, even though the servers were polite and had to wait for multiple tables to clear at the same time to push together seat such a large group in a smallish restaurant- the patrons kept coming in and trying to sit at random tables before it was their turn. If you have a massive group I'd say split into multiple tables or maybe choose a different, larger or chain restaurant, like El Vaquero or Buffalo Wild Wings? Anyway I hope they left a good tip because the workers were very professional and the group was very large and very impatient.
