I had the "sunshine roll", "the Manhattan", and the "Surf and turf" all were good but the sunshine roll was the best in my opinion. All the flavors messed well. I thought the surf and turf would've been my number one but for some reason the flavors just was there. Really good idea for a roll. It sounded better than in tasted. The building itself is nice and I like the tile. It's clean on the inside and the bar area where the make the sushi is organized. Our waitress was ok, nothing wow worthy. The food wait time was longer than I thought it would be. The sushi chefs sat down a lot on the floor behind the bar. The miso truffle udon is also a hard pass, both of us were instantly unsatisfied from the first bite. The Rangoon tarts were flavorful but 2 were cold and one was hot. By far one of my favorite new restaurants, The Blue Sushi really exceeded my expectations, especially since my expectations of sushi restaurants in Midwestern states are usually tempered. From the parking lot, The Blue Sushi does not look like much, but once you step inside, the décor is refined and elegant. We were seated immediately, and our server David was excellent with his recommendations and patience as we looked through the menu. We ended up ordering the Crispy Tuna roll, the Angry Lobster roll, the American Dream roll, and a steak Hibachi. The Hibachi comes with a side of salad and fried rice and was delicious. One of those places that closes between lunch and dinner, which used to annoy me because I was ready for lunch at 2 PM and they would be closing. Now my life has changed, and I can take advantage of lunch at these places. Completely empty at noon on a weekday, a little disturbing. But, better than not being able to get in. Classy inside, nice seating options, quiet and pleasant atmosphere. Excellent service throughout. Large sushi menu, plus hot entrees, many apps, etc. A lot I wanted to try. But I had to start with the crab Rangoon tarts. Never seen it this way. Three fairly small tartlets, nice crust, with a dollop of "Rangoon" filling. Could have used more in each tart, but tasty enough. The sauce is a little zippier than most for crab Rangoon. Good, different, not amazing. And that pretty much describes the rest of the meal. Were my expectations too high? Nothing was bad, everything was pretty good, but not amazing. I had the Red Scorpion roll next. Mid-sized, a nice roll of kani, tuna, avocado, and more, topped with several sauces. Barely fit each piece in my mouth. Tasty, but again not amazing. Not what I expected from a place like this with reviews this high. A little heat, far from the spicy suggested by the name and reviews. Also had unagi and toro nigiri. Again, good, not great. Neither was as tender as I'd hoped, though decent all in all. Flavors were good on the unagi, and the toro was somewhat buttery/creamy but not on par with others I've had. Hmph. We were pleasantly surprised by our visit to The Blue Sushi. We were planning on shopping at IKEA and were looking to try somewhere close, and we were drawn to daily happy hour menu (4:30-6), which includes a number of specialty sushi rolls, starters, etc. I was impressed by the variety of options. Also, the prices are all very reasonable (even when not there for happy hour). We ordered five rolls and edamame, all of which came out quickly (attentive, friendly service from beginning to end). The rolls were all good; not necessarily the best sushi I've had in town, but certainly satisfactory (I'd actually like to give them some something like 3.5 or 3.75 stars total; everything was fine but the dragon roll had far more cucumber than eel in it, and similar proportions seemed off in other rolls). My daughter ordered a Shirley Temple, and was delighted that it came out with a peach gummy garnish. Finally, the space is inviting, clean, nicely decorated (a lot of art, artistic lighting touches, etc). We will visit again! read more

This is the former Matt the Millers space and it is very pretty, with lighting and comfortable seating. I had a glass of wine from the happy hour menu, and the shrimp dumpling appetizer called Shumai. It was fantastic. I also ordered two rolls from the HH menu: Sweet Potato Roll and Spicy Salmon. Both very good. One from the regular dinner menu intrigued me, so I ordered it as well. The Coconut Shrimp Roll was great. Coconut Shrimp is a favorite of mine. We got a few rolls to try and they were all made well and the ingredients tasted fresh. It is a bit pricey per roll but we knew that going in. Another very solid entry in the ever growing field of new sushi restaurants in Columbus. Just in Polaris alone, there are at least six sushi spots now. I hope Blue Sushi finds a strong following and does really well. They told us it is owned by the same folks that own Song Lam in Dublin and 698 in Short North. The service was incredible (thanks Ashton!) and the cocktails are unique. The menu is long and diverse. If you don't like sushi, they do offer some familiar Asian dishes like hibachi, kung pao, etc. Do not miss the spicy tuna with crispy rice. I just know when something is delicious. Started with edamame and Tamago. Then Spicy Yellowtail, Red Scorpion roll and I can't remember the name of the one my fiancé ordered, but there's a pic. I had an amazing dinner experience at the Blue Sushi! Moving from Miami/NYC to Ohio, I have yet to find a sushi restaurant on par with some of my favorites, but I think I have finally found one in The Blue Sushi! I ordered the salmon sake and toro tartare roll, which both just absolutely melted in my mouth. The hamachi jalapeño roll was a recommendation by our waiter (who was the best, may I add) and it was also so fresh and delicious! They have a wide range of sushi to choose from, from classic and simple nigiri and maki rolls, to unique specialty rolls. I went with simple flavors, but my friend's specialty rolls were also to die for. Their fish is flown fresh from Japan every 72 hours which explains why every dish was so flavorful and fresh. I think if you like rolls you'd be happy here. For someone who eats sushi weekly and has lived in Japan for a couple of years, my expectations are pretty high. I'm generally a sashimi gal, or sushi. Occasionally I'll sprinkle in a roll. For my first visit, I tried one of each. (Spicy yellowtail roll, kampachi, sake and white tuna for my sashimi. Then hamachi nigiri followed by a spicy yellowtail hand roll). The quality was good but not great in my opinion. I didn't eat the second piece of kampachi. I did have to make sure they removed the crunchies from my hand roll and roll. For me, I prefer the taste of the fish and not buttery tempura pieces. But this is a preference so everyone likes their thing. Overall the rest was pretty good. Japanese beer options were a little limited. I had a Sapporo on tap. Sake seemed to have a solid variety from sweet to dry. Interesting layout and vibe. No sushi bar but a bar that you can eat at. Service was attentive and a nice group. It's not necessarily for me but do think those who like rolls would be pretty happy with a number of options on their menu. Otherwise, after 15 years, I'm personally better served to drive to Muirfield Dr for the best place in town. We had a nice time here. The decor was really cute and a little quirky (one of the walls had 10 of the same swan picture?) our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We went during what would normally would be happy hour, but we were told they didn't have it set up. I had the Kung Pao Chicken, which was a enough for 2 meals and my husband had the vegetarian sushi tray which he said was "excellent " and no, he didn't offer to share and yes, he ate every bite. We ordered tofu & rice for my daughter but we did end up getting the tofu taken off. It was the silken vs the firm, and for many tofu eating friends you know that even lightly fried, silken is not the best to just eat. I am a sushi connoisseur. i decided to explore the menu today to get a good feel for the restaurant. staples to me are fresh bluefin nigiri, Saba (mackerel), House saki, and usually a roll or entree. definitely a large order but i usually do this once or twice a month or smaller orders if i am just grabbing a quick bite. the angry lobster roll was pretty good 6.7/10 price was roughly $25.00 for a roll with shrimp and a lobster tail on top. the lobster tail wasn't the best quality in my opinion it was a pretty small tail and not the sweetest meat. i think the price was a little steep for the lobster quality. the truffle bluefin tuna tartar stack 3.5/10 price was roughly $18.99 the bluefin was good quality, the flavor profile was just okay, they provided maybe 7 toasted chips which was not nearly enough to finish the dish. i ended up scooping the second half up with my chopsticks. overpriced in my opinion the black truffle fried rice with crab meat 2.5/10 over $22.00 this one was my biggest issue, i didn't notice any actual black truffle in the dish, the presentation was terrible, the crab meat was absolutely a sad excuse. it could have been canned crab meat, it was brown in color and just not appealing. it just looked like bland fried rice with cold canned crab meat on top. not a fan of the dish. the nigiri was roughly $14.00 for 4 pieces. i ordered blue fin, and mackerel. the presentation (which is very important for nigiri) i give a 6.7/10 the quality of the fish i give an 8.3/10. they could up the game a little here. the house saki, normally you can order a small or a large hot saki at most sushi restaurants. there was only 1 size option it was a fairly good quality saki for a house hot saki. i give it a 7.7/10. in total my bill was $99.00 at this price i could have enjoyed a lot more options at my favorite local spot (oishi in powell). im not entirely sure that i will return, the vibe at this restaurant is a little too fancy for me and i dont think the dishes represent that enough. read more

First impression is that the main entrance door blends in with the wall. As we walked in, we were impressed by the decor and vibes. Millennials fit right in from the playlist, the darker painted walls with a hint of classic elegance, but unique with their lighting. I appreciate their attention to detail with having hooks for personal items on the side of the booths. We came at 6pm on a Thursday and got seated right away. Our server went above and beyond. They were knowledgeable and passionate about the menu as well as knowing how to converse but not overstay. The menu offers a range from fusion entrees to traditional sushi. On the drinks side, they also offer traditional sake to more fusion cocktails. We ordered the House Sake and Yozora. The drinks tasted good and the presentation was unique - the cocktail was served in an elegant tea cup. On the food side, we started off with Scallop Carpaccio. This was fresh and tasty, a fusion appetizer. You can taste the sweetness and buttery scallop. The sauce was a wonderful mix of tangy and spicy. We then had the miso soup and the house salad. Nothing special about the soup. But the salad was one of the best ginger dressings I've ever had. The dressing was fresh and not watery, perfectly blended in taste and texture. We then got the Maki Combo and Unagi Don. For both entrees, the rice was ever so slightly on the hard side. The maki's fish quality is good, but not the best the area has to offer, definitely within the price point. The unagi don was not fully traditional since it came with a side of pickled radish and topped with seaweed salad. We ended the meal with their seasonal dessert. It was an artistic masterpiece that included a matcha mousse and strawberry compote on top of sponge cake. It was delightful. When I think of this place, I think of elevated upscale hipster fusion. The feels of a North High Street restaurant but in Polaris. Overall, what sets this place apart is the atmosphere, drinks, and desserts. This would be a great place to meet up with friends for a good meal. If you're looking for more traditional Japanese food, this is not the place. read more

My wife ordered a roll without cucumber and when the roll arrived with it, they fixed it immediately and offered for us to keep the original roll for our troubles, but neither of us like cucumber. Manager came over and everyone couldn't have been nicer. The sushi was fresh and the ambiance is very nice. We always liked the setup of Matt The Miller and Blue Sushi has added their own touch and it's very inviting and warm. Think we have found our new "go to" sushi place. Atmosphere has not really changed since Matt The Millers went under. Got a lunch special. Ordered edamame and miso soup which was great (8.8/10). You should DEFINITELY get the edamame spicy! The basic Yellowtail roll was beyond terrible and overly fishy. It was not wrapped well (2.2/10). The spicy mayo on the Kiss of Fire Roll was absolutely fantastic, but the roll itself was kinda disappointing (5.8/10). They charge $4 for a kid's lemonade and charged $2 for extra spicy mayo (we just wanted the smallest amount).
