    What I got

This is my sons first birthday smash cake. It was supposed to be a toasted marshmallow for a camping themed birthday. What I asked for vs what I got. This was over $45. It was a 5" cake.

    a variety of cupcakes

That Takes the Cake is amazing. 9 years ago, I contacted them about making a wedding cake and they absolutely delivered! Recently, we took a little trip to the peninsula and HAD to stop for some cupcakes. I'm pretty sure we hadn't been by since we took a trip over for tasting 9 years ago. The cupcakes still taste just as amazing as they did back then! The champagne flavor is what we went with for our cake and is absolutely delicious. I was also blown away by the coconut cream flavor. My husband really liked the churro cupcake and I have to agree. There are 3 different sizes of cupcakes so you can get a bunch of different flavors to try. Definitely stop by if you're in town!

Stopped in a little late in the day. Selection was still fairly good. Donuts were fresh and deff lish. Only bummer was gluten free had a additional charge and nothing showed this. Friendly staff.

Carrot cake for the top tier and it was AMAZING! Champagne cake with raspberry was also super delicious! photo by Isaac Gautschi

Not only do I get their cupcakes whenever I am in town, I also had them make my wedding cake which was amazing. I could list all my favorite cupcakes but they are all really good. Basically, the cupcake is light, fluffy and flavorful yet delicate (regardless of which flavor you choose) and the frosting is always super delicious. They have three sizes of cupcakes , huge, large and small. My parents and I will get several small cupcakes and share them so we can have a variety. Options change seasonally. The owners are super friendly and it's definitely a jem in Sequim :)

We were delightfully surprised to find a cupcake store during our vacay in the Olympic Peninsula! Even better? THEY HAVE THREE DIFFERENT SIZES OF THEIR CUPCAKES!!! This is the most brilliant idea I have experienced because I love cupcakes and sometimes, I just want to try all the flavors and with this place, I can!! Another plus, even the minis have the fillings that the regular and jumbo sizes have. Plus, the minis only cost between $1-1.25!!!!! Their prices in general were very reasonable, since I have seen specialty cupcakes sell for $7-10 at some snooty places. We bought four dozen mini cupcakes and a giant one (as a sweet surprise for my honey back home in Florida). -The red velvet has a cream cheese filling and buttercream icing on top- it is a delightful bite of heaven. -The vanilla filled with lemon curd and topped with buttercream icing was also very yummy. -The chocolate peanut butter was not that great and it had a chocolate mousse filling. They also had two really cute flavors: a root beer float and a Jack n' Coke for all you "adults" out there. The root beer one was super cute with a little pirouette cookie stuck in the icing on top, and my youngest sister declared that it was "nom nom nom". I definitely liked getting a variety of flavors to try instead of having to commit to one large cupcake and potentially not being satisfied (and feeling a whole lot more guilty) with my selection. Two Pointers I have for the owners: 1. More merchandizing! The people you attract with this store tend to be of the female persuasion and that means that cute gifts and novelties will definitely sell. You should offer not just t-shirts (because they can be really unflattering), but also tank tops which are super popular. In addition, having cute little canvas bags with your logo would not only be a best seller, but would essentially be advertising that can be used again and again. 2. If you're going to offer "sprinkle shots", you definitely need to also offer icing shots so people can have little 75 cent samples of your yummy frosting! So if you are in the area, definitely indulge your sweet tooth at this cupcake heaven cause the desserts are just as sweet as the price!

He was delighted by them all but only chocolate will do for this kid. The portion was right for him actually eating the cake and not just frosting. My husband went for lemon raspberry. I bought both gluten free flavors: chocolate and lemon raspberry. Both were delicious with a good texture. The shop is cute. They do custom cakes and sometimes brownies or macarons which are super yummy. There is nowhere to sit and enjoy. I guess people like to eat their treats elsewhere.

It is lodged between a few auto repair places within a strip mall, so just be prepared to listen to your GPS. The staff who work here are welcoming and knowledgeable. The gluten-free and vegan cupcakes are clearly marked, and often, they have those delicious treats in the day old case. It's the same delicious cupcake for LESS money. SCORE! I have food allergies, so I don't often get to enjoy cakes or sweet treats and definitely not treats that are baked to perfection like these cupcakes. 100% recommended. I usually adventure here with someone who eats regular cupcakes, and they have a huge selection of regular gourmet cupcakes. They come in two sizes, either regular or mini size. In case you don't eat gluten-free or dairy free, there is still something for everyone!

There is no place to sit inside but there are sidewalk benches or you can walk as you snack. I love that you can look at all the pastries from the side walk. They not only entice you to get a pastry or three but you can plan out what you want while waiting in line. When you order, if I remember correctly, you only get your items in a box if you order more than six items. If you order less they are placed into a waxed bag. I ordered the sour cream donut, Viking cup, and a butterhorn with almonds. I loved them all! They all tasted so fresh, had a great texture, and was absolutely yummy. The Viking cup had the perfect balance of frosting to bun.

There was a line out the door even 30 minutes before closing, but it went pretty fast and the shelves were also well stocked with pastries; not bare like I expected them to be coming so soon before closing. The person behind the counter explained that the Viking cups were all 20% off as the batch that day came out with irregular shapes. Taste wise it wasn't bad, tastes like a regular cinnamon roll but with more of that homemade touch you get with good quality ingredients and handmade cream cheese frosting (the contrast from store bought to homemade is big when it comes to cream cheese). The frosting had good texture and surprisingly I liked it better than the actual roll, especially since I'm known to always remove cream cheese icing. I think the roll would have been better if it had been served warm. Overall it was not bad, a little sweeter than I would have preferred, but I'm also not a huge cinnamon roll or cream cheese fan because of how sweet they always are in general, so that could just be a personal preference. Want to try the pecan roll or any of the cookies next time I visit, those sounded promising as well. Prices here are also pretty decent considering how touristy this place is, and coming from Seattle, anything under $5 is a relief. Definitely will become a place I hit every time I'm in Poulsbo!
