Stopped on our way out of town after a day in Sequim. We had Strawberry Daiquiri and Red Velvet. Yummy frosting and fillings! Cupcakes were a little dry... Maybe earlier in the day is better? After passing this shop for a week, my fiancé and I decided to drop in and try some cupcakes. The owner and staff were super friendly and helpful. We got 9 assorted minis and 2 regular size. They were soft, fluffy, and moist cakes. Very flavorful and absolutely scrumptious. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is that the icing is too sweet for me. Fiancé had no problems with it, however. read more

Great portions for a great price. The owner is so nice! I mentioned we were getting cupcakes for my birthday and she threw in a free sample for me, which was unexpected but delicious. Super friendly, would definitely recommend and visit again when I'm back in the area read more

We stopped in on a Sunday and they were not only open, but so nice and helpful. We got a Cherry Chocolate Chip, Guiness Stout, and a Peanut Butter Chocolate. My son and I got a mini of ours and at a $1 each these are a bargain. Wow. Packed with flavor and about a two bite taste. My daughter got a regular sized one and it was abut $2.50 or $3.00 and she loved it. Great place to stop and have a taste if not more! read more

Haven't had the cupcakes yet, but My mom ordered my bday cake from here and it was really dry. I thought maybe it was just that one time, so I ordered my sons cake from here and the decoration where really good just what I wanted but the cake once again was dry. There's nothing worse then dry cake and you need to chug down a big glass of milk afterwards. The cakes I make out of a Betty Crocker box comes out more moist then the cakes here. read more

First off I will say the owners husband is incredibly kind. The cake is very pretty and they were very kind to do a cake tasting for my daughter who dislikes cake period. Never had a bite of cake she liked. My daughter did a tasting and picked out a strawberry Cake with strawberry butter cream and to have fresh strawberries on the inside. we also ordered a dozen blueberry lemon cupcakes. The cake was a unicorn cake and was Informed they do them all the time... My mom and our dear friend went to pick up the Cake this evening and my daughters name was spelled wrong on the board, no problem she was swift to fix it. But here is why I am saying two stars. the Cake has no strawberry buttercream not on the inside not on the outside. The cake my daughter tasted is not the Cake I received. the lady argued with my mom for ten min and said there was nothing they could do but send her with a tub of strawberry buttercream that it was never to have strawberry buttercream like we tasted. ( I would never buy a cake with regular buttercream as my daughter would never eat it). I called the shop to see what happen and how they could rectify the situation and the lady told me I was completely wrong. I said I wasn't going to argue with her I'd just write a review and she proceeded to let me know never to contact them again and hung up on me. All I wanted was an apology for the mixup and to come up with a good solution to rectify the error. Instead I was blamed and raised her voice at me and treated me like I was stupid. ( the frosting is hard as a rock on the cake and I'm hoping the refrigerator is just extremely cold.) they don't hVe to worry about me using them again as their lack of customer care when they made an error was terrible and it's hard to want to go back someplace when they make a mistake and blame you read more

Hands down best cupcakes around! I went in for a consultation today to purchase some for an upcoming event, the owners were very friendly and helpful. I was amazed by the variety of flavors and fillings, I wanted to try them all! My favorite is the champagne cupcake, it's amazing. read more

Three sizes for cupcakes: mini, regular and jumbo. Price ranges from $1 - $4 each. They also have stamp cards and gf items. Most of the regular and jumbo cupcakes are filled with a creamy center. We've visited here 30+ times and I've never had a "dry" cupcake. Rich? Definitely, but "dry" is not a word I'd use to describe them. I'm the kind of person who loves chocolate and sweets. Each and every time we visit the Port Angeles/Sequim area, we make it a point to arrive early enough to buy cupcakes from this shop. Favorites: #1 Lavender (very light & fluffy but only made for summer); Runners Up: Champagne; Strawberry Shortcake; Irish Creme; Chocolate Hazelnut (rich).... and the Mojito was AMAZING but I've only seen it on the menu one time. read more

This shop has been a family tradition for many years now. The cupcakes are literally like small cakes. They have a creative and inspired range of flavors the makes this shop truly unique. The owners are dedicated and incredibly hardworking. (You have to be to survive with a small bakery.) They have gone out of their way so many times to make things special. I only wish they were closer. read more

Favorite cake place hands down. I Come in here often and get mini cupcakes because there are so many delightful flavors that rotate. The cupcakes are always consistent in texture, taste and deliciousness. Every cupcake comes with a cute decoration of frosting and usually a topping of some sort even on the tiny ones which makes it even more fun. No other cupcake I've tasted comes close to the unique flavor if their cupcakes. The creativity of the of this charming sequim staple keeps me coming back! Thank you, That Takes The Cake. read more

Oh. My. God. This place is amazing. We tried about 7 different cupcakes from regular to mini sized. Every single one was moist and very flavorful. The flavors were good with filling that catch's you by surprise. My only complaint is that they're closed on Sundays. I mean how am I supposed to get more before returning to the land of unamazing cupcakes? read more

Ordered a wedding cake for my mom over the phone. Picked it up when I arrived in Washington. Literally the best cake I have EVER eaten or ordered. Raspberry filling white cake with butter cream was the absolute hit! Highly recommend. Will use this bakery religiously! read more

Wow what cupcakes did those folks get? I was served by the owner who said she had 26 years experience, but the choc cupcake I bought was so dry and tasteless that I thew it away. I did eat the pumpkin one & it was better tho the frosting was sicky sweet. Waaaay overpriced at $3.50 each! I've had better cake from a grocery store, and any box mix will do better. Buyer beware! Sequim needs a good bakery, but this isn't it. read more

We got married in June, and are so happy our cake turned out delicious. We are from the east side of the state. I had a tasting only once, and didn't try the champagne and strawberries. I don't regret it. We did cupcakes and cake on top. It was extremely affordable. The red velvet cupcakes disappeared the quickest. read more

Stopped in on whim while in Sequim on vacation. My coconut cupcake was Oh.My.Heavens delicious! It's been a week since I had it, and I am still dreaming about it, wishing I could get one here in CA. My husband had the chocolate peanut butter cupcake, which was also incredibly tasty. Another plus is that they offer three different sizes of cupcakes, including mini, regular, and large (like Costco muffin size), so if you want to try a few different flavors you can order minis. But really, that isn't necessary. All you need is the coconut. Trust me. read more

We just got married and Sue made the cupcakes for our wedding. She offered a free consultation, during which we found the cupcakes to be moist, delicious, and so varied in terms of flavors. She helped us with the logistics that often make wedding planning a nightmare with delivery to our location, set up, cake stand rental, and even a small cake for the top of the stand that we were able to put a super cool custom made cake topper on. All we had to do was show up, and the cupcakes looked great. On top of that, the price was right for our reasonable budget. Sue was really a pleasure to work with; extremely communicative throughout the process and she made everything from the ordering to the payment to the final delivery a snap. I couldn't speak more highly of this business! read more

Their cupcakes need to have a face lift! I haven't seen cupcakes decorated like that in ten years. The decoration is seriously so tacky, I wish they'd study other cupcake shops or image search on Google. The cake is always so dense no matter which cake you buy. It's also way too sweet without any balance between the cake and frosting. read more

This is a pretty cool Lil cupcake shoppe. I got 5 $1 minis on a Tuesday and the older man at the counter said "what do you know about Tuesdays here?" "Nothing.." "Tuesdays are buy 2minis get 1free". So he had me pick out another one. I appreciate honest folk like that! My favorite was strawberry lemonade and raspberry cheesecake. I was weary of trying the raspberry cheesecake bc so many people mess up cheesecake flavored stuff- they don't! I thought the chocolate ones were more dry for some reason. I will definitely come here again if I ever visit! read more

That Takes the Cake is beyond amazing! We're pretty sure we'll be talking about how delicious our wedding cake was for the rest of our lives. We can't wait to have a date to Sequim soon for some tasty cupcakes. We are so in love with how beautiful and detailed our wedding and groom's cake were. Susan absolutely NAILED it! Our hobbit house groomsmen cake was adored by our family and friends, but most importantly by US. It was more than we could have imagined! First time here during Memorial Day weekend. I am a huge cupcake fan and this place literally takes the cake!! I love how you have the option of different sizes. They're creative and oh so delicious. Amazing cupcakes ! Owner says he has 400 different recipes that he uses throughout the year !!

I never ever liked cupcakes before until I tried cupcakes here. I am a huge fan of their red velvet cupcake. The price is not cheap, but for an occasional treat, it is worth it. Owners are pretty nice and it Is a very nice little store/restaurant(?). The one thing I do not like about was the actual birthday cake I ordered one time for my husband and it was not as good as we expected. That was a bummer, but owners know what they are doing with making cupcakes for sure. Definitely this is go to place for cupcakes. :D read more

I really liked all their options. I really enjoyed they had 3 different cupcake sizes (mini, regular, and large). We got 6 different mini's to sample. Flavors were really great. The cupcake was (at least the chocolate) was a little dry. Cute little store. read more

Not sure where the nay Sayers have been getting their cupcakes and why they feel like these are so inferior :( The overwhelming majority of reviewers found them fresh, moist, and delicious....as did I. Good people. Can't say enough about the carrot cupcakes with the cream cheese frosting. They are the best!

Me, my wife and six year old daughter stopped in there today and were happy we did! I had a small dark chocolate cupcake, my daughter the vanilla and my wife the red velvet. In a word delicious . Easy to see why king 5 's best of western Washington chose this place as tops . Super clean, very friendly owner, and delicious cupcakes. Nice to know they do cakes of all sorts too. If you're in sequim and have a sweet tooth this is most definitely the place to go. We are happy to have found it. read more

I've been baking/cooking for a long time, and am usually a lot happier with my own product than anything I buy. Cakes from this place are the exception. Really moist and flavorful with generous icing and profession decoration. Overall, their cakes are delicious and worth the money. Also, great customer service. The one time I was disappointed, Paul and Sue offered me my money back and also gave me a free cake. The free cake amazingly good (red velvet, don't miss it!) I purchased cupcakes a few weeks later, and the flavors were very inventive and the decorations were really nice. My grandmother, who has got to be the pickiest eater on earth, really liked their classic lemon cupcakes. I'll probably be back for an Easter cake. Sequim is lucky to have this place. Before, the only option was do-it-yourself (and to simulate a bakery cake, do-it-yourself means a ten-hour project.) Excellent cakes and great customer service. Can't ask for anything else. read more

Amazing cupcakes, ok coffee. Wish they served icecream. Service is always 20/10. Worth a try.
