the service was great, but our food was overly sweet. we had a pad Thai, lo mein and yellow curry dishes and they tasted like they dumped a bunch of sugar in them. the spring rolls tasted like licorice which I've never tasted ever in a spring roll. the garlic fried rice was very good and the only dish that tasted like it should. read more

Excellent! A tiny local gem amongst the numerous chains on this part of town. I ordered a spicy larb dish off the Cafe's specialty menu (which the chef listed as a dish from their hometown,) and really enjoyed it. The waitress seemed very enthused I tried and liked it. If you are from out of town and think eating Thai Time in your vehicle is an option forget about it. We have attempted to give Thai Time our business twice during Covid, and honestly it's just not worth the frustration. Food with piping hot sauce/juice served in a styrofoam container is a recipe for failure. Lining the container with aluminum foil that then breaks apart and mixes with your food is also not working. To-go orders from Thai Time Cafe must be taken home and eaten on your own plates, attempting to eat this in a car or truck is not something their management ever contemplated. read more

This place is tiny but does a great amount of business, both eat in and take out. The kra prow was a bit on the sweet side (but good), the rice was over cooked and the portions are smaller than I've come to expect for dinner. It's decent Thai food but I'd probably try somewhere else next time I pass through. read more

Very good!! Had the Tom Kha soup in the Hotpot, just the right size as a meal, the fried spring rolls are very tasty as well. Yes I have been on a Thai food kick, my goal this year when traveling is to eat at as many non franchise restaurants, franchises have become boring. How many Tom kha soups can I try this year??? This one was really good with good portion of proteins. Nice atmosphere, seat yourself! Lots of great compliments heard by people at other tables. They also have a lunch special from 11-3pm for 9.95. We paid $35 dollars for three items nothing too bad for normal Thai food, however this stuff tasted like I could've made it myself (not good). The sesame chicken was really weird and tasted like they took store sesame chicken sauce and poured it over the rice, I was so disappointed. We also got the chicken pad Thai and beef pad see ew, those were okay but was kind of annoyed they put the peanuts all over the pad Thai rather than on the side, this really ruined the whole dish for me. This was my first time trying this place and I had better expectations for it, I also found it kind of annoying they asked for a tip at the window whenever I ordered pickup?! No other places I've been too have asked for tips but have always allowed me to write a tip in on the receipt, just thought it was kind of weird. I'll just stick to magic noodle next time. read more

The easiest and best was to describe Thai Time is to say we don't deserve it. The food is the tastiest Thai you will find in any major city. The vegetables and seafood are as fresh as you'd find at any local market. And the chef / owner is as dedicated as you'd find at any upscale restaurant. Yet despite the sprawl, the endless chain restaurants, the mullets and the meth that so proudly represent Southwest Missouri, and for whatever reason, Thai Time calls Joplin home. Do we deserve Thai Time? Of course not, but let's hope we can squeeze in a few more satays before the chef/owner figures that out. read more

This is one of my favorite places to get carry out. I've probably eaten at this cafe for over 15 years. The food is consistently delicious and the same. My kids love chicken satay with rice or pad see u. My husband and I love the Thai basil rolls and the curry dishes. YUM! Great authentic food and awesome customer service. FOOD- The Thai fried rice is delicious. Also tried the Pad Thai and Lion City Noodles. Both were good, but being that we've never had something like the Lion City Noodles, it became a favorite over the Pad Thai that I always end up getting at a Thai restaurant. Love the option of spicy sauces and Thai Chilies. CUSTOMER SERVICE- Everyone was so sweet. One lady, she might be the owner, made sure we really liked our food. Being that we were trying new things. Because if we didn't she would make us something else. She makes sure that everyone is happy. We never had an empty glass and everything was great. Really makes a difference when the staff cares. Who knew a microscopic little building in Joplin, Missouri would have such fantastic Thai food? Not me, but I'm glad I stopped in with my boyfriend during our visit down there. He and I swung in for a late lunch and ended up sharing the Tom Kha soup, Pacific curry with tofu, and mango chicken. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms, so the soup wasn't my forte, but it was still good. The other dishes: outstanding. We both agreed that the mango chicken was our favorite, because it struck a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Delicious Thai food! I'm from California and find it hard to find great restaurants when I visit Joplin, Missouri. I love this place. The Fiery Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, Tom Kha Gai Soup, Mango Sticky Rice for dessert.... yum! Love this stuff! The staff is friendly, inviting, attentive, and remembers me even though I only visit a few times each year. I have Celiac Disease and need to eat only gluten free food. The kitchen and the servers ensure I don't get food with wheat or soy sauce in my food. Love this place. It looks like some ugly old drive through on the outside, then you step inside to a vibrant, colorful oasis. Come try it! read more

My wife grew up in Joplin so we go several times a year. Up until this last visit, we've mostly just eaten at Instant Karma but we can now expand our repertoire to include Thai and I am very happy about that. Thai Time is a very small restaurant with about a dozen booths. The decor is simple but comfortable and the service is great. I don't know for sure but it had the feeling of the owners being the operators - there was a since of ownership in the host and server that isn't there with a distant owner. Our server was very kind and thoughtful. Food was really very good. The one down side was the wine wasn't great but they probably don't sell a lot of it. We didn't send it back but it was almost that bad. Mostly not their fault though. Everything else was so comfortable they should get a pass for that. read more

Now I know why this place has a perfect 5 stars. The food here is great. HUGE flavor. The staff here is very sweet, attentive, and pleasant. Nice decor, kinda small, but not unbearable. Authentic Thai music adds to the feel. Little touches like making the paper from the straw into a rosebud or a carrot flower (see pictures) is great. Can't recommended this place enough. read more

Cute little place, and happy it is in a smaller city like Joplin--offers some nice food diversity. The food was very good, and they had some interesting choices, such as pumpkin curry which was great. Most of the food was delicious, and a few items were good but just not that interesting. Lunch servings were modest, but plenty for a lunch meal. Overall, I'd give the food a 4 or 4.5. The service was wonderful--5 stars. Our waitress was fast and attentive. She also modified items if we didn't like it, such as the Thai tea which was too sweet for my tastes...and of course those cute rose straw wrappers are a great touch. The price was also nice. I think we had 3 entrees, 2 drinks, 2 apps, and a soup for under $50. In short, this place is quaint and yummy. They really want to make their customers happy, so give it a shot! read more

The food is great however we left hungry and we weren't expecting large portions. There may have been 2 slices of chicken in the curry, some thin sliced carrots (maybe 0.5" of a carrot), and 1/2 C curry. One golf ball scoop of white rice and that's it. We also got the coconut soup and found 4 thin slices of chicken - 4 mushrooms cut in half and 2 pieces of a diced tomato. We ordered summer rolls thinking it'd help us not leave hungry but they brought out 3 cut in half and there was maybe 1 slice of chicken inside of them. Just terribly disappointing. $40 later. We left hungry. Sadly we won't be back but the food is very flavorful. Waste of money in my opinion. read more

Excellent service and the spicy crispy boneless duck is outstanding. This is a gem of a restaurant. The Thai iced coffee is very good where Starbucks has no winner compared to this iced coffee. This is a must try place when your traveling by Joplin. It is just down the street from Homewood Suites and easy to get to off highway 44. Who knew??! On a recent visit (Jan 2016) to Joplin, of all times I pick then to have a taste for Thai food. It was Thai Time, and fate led me here. It's a little joiint tucked away and unimpressive from the outside, small and quaint inside. The waitress was very nice and quick with the service, and the pad thai was awesome! The portions are generous, but the quality is not sacrificed. No clumpy noodles or rice and just the right amount of spice. This place would do well in Chicago against a lot of competiton. The location of this restaurant is on a busy street. The parking lot is tiny and drive thru was hard to navigate. Meh. I ordered panang curry with chicken. I got it for take out and as I walked back to my hotel it all separated... lots of oil in that panang! I actually blotted some off the top. The flavor was good, but the portion wasn't overwhelming, nor was the amount of chicken. Not used to peas and carrots in my panang, either. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not sure if it's because I wasn't used to it, or because the flavors didn't work... but I could leave the carrots and peas. Decent, but certainly didn't live up to the hype. Perhaps it's 4.5 stars good for Joplin, but not for Thai in general. read more
