This restaurant in a big city would deserve five stars, easily. But the fact it is in the food wasteland of Joplin, MO.... well, the five stars isn't doing it justice. Located on the south side of town in a small building near a busy intersection, it is inconspicuous. Inside the decor is simple, but very Thai. Silk scarves adorn table tops, potted plants, and there is always a showing of colorful paintings on rotation. My mom (that still lives in the food wasteland) first brought me to Thai Time, and she has made friends with one of the young ladies that work there. I believe her name is Yim. She's delightful. Everyone there is delightful. They are always cheerful and remember regular visitor's favorites. I've had several dishes, but above all my favorite is the Khao Soi Gai. This dish originates from Northern Thailand. It's very flavorful, with the classic 1-2-3-4 punch of sour, sweet, savory and salty that is the distinctly Asian cuisine. This coconut curry includes chicken, noodles, lemongrass, shrimp paste (I'm guessing but I am pretty good at sniffing that out), fish sauce, fried shallots, other Thai spices, topped with fried noodles and a kaffir lime to squeeze extra zest on top. It's incredible!! As someone that has been to Thailand and will try anything, absolutely anything.... food from street vendors, to people bbq'ing on the side of the road in the jungle..... this place is the real deal, real Thai family running the show. Thai Time! A few weeks ago we found this little Gem in Joplin Mo. and have been there several times since then. It's a 45 minute drive for us and is totally worth it! Delicious little Thai place in Joplin, MO. I came here while passing through to order take out and I was very surprised to see some authentic Thai dishes on the menu. The place is very small with not much seating but was clean and the service was good. I ordered the pumpkin curry with chicken and asked for them to make it spicy. The curry itself was delicious with coconut milk and curry flavor that complimented the chunks of chicken and pumpkin nicely. I would definitely not ask for spicy or at least be more specific in what level of spice you want because they made mine VERY spicy. The service was a little slow, but I have been told many times that is the Thai way. The Thai Tea was great. I loved my Basil Fried Chicken Rice. The 3-Spicy was just the right heat, for me. If you like spicy and flavorful, I would suggest that about of heat. My husband also got the 3-Spicy, with his Shrimp Pineapple Fried Rice. He found it too hot, so don't be afraid to get a lower spice level. The flavor is what you want, and they spice things up. This is definitely a place you would want to try, whether you live nearby, or are driving through. The bathroom is very clean and spacious; single, no stalls. Lights aren't on their sign, PadThais was overcooked and dry, wok stir fry was just ok and nothing to write home about, looked more like fajitas. Wow - I love this amazing little restaurant! It was awesome to find Bubble Tea in Joplin (get the Taro flavor - it seriously tastes like cake and is awesome! The mango flavor is good, too). I had the "company" dish that included chicken, beef, and shrimp with vegetables and rice. The sauce was great, and everything was cooked perfectly. This place was delicious and very authentic! If you're not into spicy, order it mild folks, and even this will make you sweat a little! Three people were in our party. We had the Thai Tea Mojitos and they were perfect with our dinner. Ordered Chicken Wings as app, they were very good. I ordered Chicken and Rice dish, I think it was called Country something, and it was very filling, very tasty! Service was perfect. Parking can be a challenge but it's worth it. I am not an expert on Thai food, but I do know what tastes good and what doesn't. I've eaten here twice recently, in the same week, and I have to say that I really enjoyed my visits. The outside of the restaurant looks very small and it's never really that busy all at one time. Building was recently remodeled so it's new looking and very sharp. Inside, everything was very clean and neat. Walls painted this delicious, vibrant orange that made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. Warm, homey. The first visit I was with a group of co-workers. I ordered the sample appetizer platter with shrimp in a blanket, crab rangoon, pork dumpling, thai roll and fried tofu. All was fantastically good, except the tofu was weird, but that was just because it's tofu, not because of their recipe. My friends had lion noodles (took a bite = good), see-u noodles (took a bite = amazing), and cashew nut chicken (looked wonderful but did not try, regretfully). Second visit I went with my husband. I had the tamarind chicken in the bento box that comes with a salad, thai rolls and rice. I had them make the chicken mild, and they were able to accommodate. Very delicious once again. They also serve a selection of bubble teas. I've had the coconut and strawberry and both were yummy and refreshing. Hubby got a mocha, which I tried, and it's my favorite. I will absolutely go back to Thai Time. I want to try more things because everything sounded so wonderful. read more

Thankfully, this place exists. Surrounded by the culinary mediocrity that only chain restaurants can provide, Thai Time stands out as an oasis of fresh ingredients and well prepared dishes. Four of us were ravenous and ordered a number of apps and entrees. Any of the fried apps were your standard fare, but the homemade filling in the lettuce wraps made us all eager for more-- and the entrees did not disappoint. The noodle dishes all had wonderful balance of flavor and spice and protein and veg. The eggplant dish was unique and delicious. I will be needing to visit Joplin again for the next few months and am looking forward to eating here again. In fact, it may be the highlight of my trip. read more

This is the second time I've ate here, and took a chance in Pho in a Thai restaurant. There is no other place in Joplin that I could find that has Pho, and it's a cold evening and pho is what I wanted. Sooooooo......with that said, it's not too bad. They only have one size and one meat option. Meatballs and sliced beef combo. The broth is a little oily, and doesn't taste like the traditional pho broth. However, it's a decent beef based broth that was plenty hot. The noodles are excellent and fresh. You have to ask for the traditional sides that go with pho, but they brought everything as you can see by the picture. It's small inside, so it could get stuffy and uncomfortable during the busy hours. The parking is also small but more parking is offered at the vape store next door. Other than those two small things I love this place and have been coming here since 2013 or so. The pho is like an 8/10 broth wise if you're coming in just for that. It's Joplin so you aren't really going to find any super amazing place for pho. I'd choose this place for pho over the other place on 7th street in Joplin. The sauces and spices are spot on for Thai food here. A little list of my favorites are the Red Curry, Panang Curry, Larb Kai, Nam Tok, Pla Kung, Tom Yum Soup, Fiery Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and Larb Mao Jania. The bubble tea is great. I'm not sure if it could come blended but it's usually over ice, which doesn't bother me. They're usually quick & have a pretty good amount of spices, it's not bland. The Khoi Soi Gai (noodle soup) is perfect for a rainy day & the pad Thai is, of course, a classic. The fiery pad Thai would be my recommendation, it's not too spicy and has a bit more flavor. The prices are very reasonable. The lion city noodles are not my favorite- they lack in flavor. I wish they would put a pair of chopsticks with all their orders but they don't so if you're like me, you will have to remember to ask for a pair of chopsticks. read more

Hate to leave a less-than-good review for a local business but here we go. My party of five received poor service, yes it was a Saturday evening, but we had numerous issues and our overall experience was off. I had to literally get out of my seat to find the server about five times. She didn't bring a Thai tea that was ordered, it was very slow getting the drinks that did actually arrive, and they came at completely different times. I took my parents here to try the pho - one of the only two places on town that offers it - and we were pretty disappointed. The beef was well-done and not rare as it should be. We were given one tiny plate of garnishes for three orders of pho and had to ask for more. The pho portion was also quite small. The Pad Thai was wet, overdone, salty with not a bit of sweetness, and my mother could barely eat it. There was seemingly one nearly empty bottle of Sriracha that was for the entire restaurant, and they pulled it from our table to give to someone else. The parking lot is strange consisting of only parallel spots but I think a lot of people park in the spot over. Overall, not impressed with the service or food. read more

Worst thai food I've ever had. Big disappointment after reading all the reviews about this place thought we found a hidden jewel. Stopped On our way back to Texas because of all the great reviews -we ordered the box lunch. The soup came in a tiny, maybe 3 ounces cup, it was a very salty broth with toasted garlic on it. Wasn't hot. The box had a very tiny eggroll fried with some carrots in it and a deep fried crab Rangoon. Each about the size of a toddler's finger food serving. The salad was iceberg lettuce with fried wontons on it. The only thing that was good was the rice and the mussaman broth that was in it. On a high note, the service was good and quick and our waitress was very attentive We don't like leaving bad reviews but maybe this will help them get a little bit of improvement in the quality of food here. read more
