We have been trying to find new spots for lunch when in Joplin and found one for sure that we will return to. Union Station Deli is a great place for lunch. It is NOT fast food but everyone knows you rarely get good food fast. It has a bit of a 40s vibe with big band music as background. I didn't get our waiter's name but the ticket said Music Man. He is friendly, attentive and stayed busy. I had the Big BLT and onion rings. 4 slices of bacon with garlic mayo on toasted, thick sliced white bread. Plenty to eat and fresh. Excellent sandwich. The onion rings were almost as good as Chicken Annie's. Deb had the Big Dipper and broccoli cheese soup. They both looked delicious and since she didn't have a leftover to take home, I would guess it tasted as good as it looked. The place is cute as a button inside! We were super excited to try this spot out. When looking over the tasty menu, they have some great names for their sandwiches which is really funny! However, what is not so funny, is that all their sandwiches are one high price of 15.75 which also included things like grilled cheese and fried bologna which is just crazy to me. Now, I got the French Dipper and it was good. However, it was not bursting with flavor so it was a bit disappointing IMO. Hit or miss experience. Only stop by for weekday lunch if you have time to be away from work for more than an hour. Lengthy waits for ordering, food and receiving check. Three of us ordered,,, and we had the full range of experiences. BLT and onion rings - cooked awesomely, hot and every bite consumed. Half sandwich and salad - parts of salad fresh, other parts slimy and clearly old and pushed to side. Hot sandwich had significantly cooled before delivery to table. About half of this meal consumed. Breakfast for lunch with eggs, hash browns and bacon ordered well / crispy for all items. Unsure whether cooking request not taken or request offended the cook, but bacon chewy, hash browns were hash beige and eggs were on border of "wet." Toast and coffee consumed, poked at remainder. Because waiter took so long to return to table after delivering food, we just left all be. Everyone was nice, but considering cost and time involved, overall experience was disappointing. The perfect little deli. The atmosphere is a great vibe and the sand which I had was very tasty. Their version of a French Dip but with little peppers on it which made it delicious. Lots of variety on the menu to choose from and the staff is cheerful. Love this for a little local lunch spot and so much on the menu you try! read more

Although service was slow, the staff was friendly and kept our water glasses full. It took a while for the staff to take our order and then they forgot my drink and did not bring it out until I asked. We all enjoyed our food, I would say the sandwiches were better than you normally can find in town which we were pleased with. Prices were comparable to other sandwich shops in town without all the noise and hustle. You might get a larger sandwich at other fast-food locations like Jimmy John's, Subway, or Jersey Mike's but the prices are similar and come with fries, a cup of soup, or tator tots. I hope they work on their processes and get the turnaround time fixed. It took over an hour to bring our food from the time we ordered it and we did not have any changes or substitutions. From entering to leaving we were there for two hours for what should have been 30 minutes. One thing I would change is when you call your shot, whether it's in baseball, pool, or sandwiches you sure had better make your claim stick or look foolish. They named their corned beef sandwich the Katz after the famous NYC deli. In this claim, they fell flat. If you say your sandwich is a katz it had better be somewhat close to the real thing. Instead, this was a typically flat small, and overcooked corned beef like you get at Arby's or Denny's. A Katz Deli Corned Beef has about 3-4 inches of moist, juicy, corned beef, it's not hard or dry and has a distinctive tender texture. Their bread is soft and full. If they had just called it a corned beef grill my expectations would be the same for everywhere else that also don't know how to make a proper corned beef sandwich in Joplin. Calling it a Katz requires that you make it as close to Katz as possible, otherwise, you do you both a disservice. I'm sure we will try them again in a few months to see if they improved, we don't usually have two hours for lunch to get a sandwich. read more

Rarely take the time to write a negative review, but with the amount we paid for 2 kids meals + 2 sandwiches, I truly can't help but wonder why we just paid $60 for the quality and service we just experienced. My husbands muffaletti sandwich was half the size as the advertised picture! 15.75 per sandwich! Overpriced and nothing special. This place is a different level of interesting, it's like stepping back in time. The waitress we had was extremely friendly and helpful with items on the menu! If you are looking for food that's not the norm and it's NOT fast food so be prepared to sit back and relax then this is the place for you!! Very slow service after we ordered on Christmas Eve Eve for lunch. Our sandwiches were all delicious, great fries and the Cabbage Roll soup was just what I was expecting, very good. The onion rings batter was far too heavy and they were hard, not light and crispy. Staff were all nice and kept our drinks full, but kitchen times were really long. I had the Resa, monte christo type sandwich, it was soooo yummy. The horseradish really made the sandwich something special. read more

I have not visited he deli in person but I do order delivery from here a lot. The speed of service is always surprising. It is always fresh hot and amazing. The food is so flavorful. So worth the money. I also love that they use cardboard take out containers better for the environment and for humans. Maybe I will visit in person tomorrow. read more

Our 2nd time to eat here. We ate Bfast on our first visit. Typical diner type breakfast as I recall- very good though. This 2nd time I was hungry for a North Jersey Sloppy Joe & they did a pretty good job of approximating. My wife's "Green Goddess" sandwich was also very good. Service was GREAT - particularly considering that they were very short handed. Definitely recommend. Will upgrade to 5 stars if they'll add an actual Sloppy Joe to their menu! read more
