It was just okay, a lot of people seem to really like it but we found it rather ordinary. I think it's popular because 1, there is nothing else out there in the area and 2 it's got, friendly downhome staff. It seems most of the people there were locals to that part of town and there are no other options. It's great to have a place where the staff knows you well and you are all friends. However, it was very busy and that friendliness sometimes got in the way. When we got in line to check out the woman handling the register was talking with a woman who did not pay anything so maybe a friend or maybe she just stopped in to talk. But they went on and on chatting and could not care that there was a line waiting to pay. I found it rude. We won't be going back as there are many other options with more or less the same food and the same prices all around town. read more

Waited 20 plus minutes to even get the drinks ordered. After getting food 40 minutes later after ordering the waiter asked if the food is warm which if that's a question there is a problem. The gravy was cold, the rest of the food was good though. read more

I stopped for lunch at 11:30 am on a Tuesday and the place was packed. I was given a high-top table and my server came right over and took my drink order and gave me a menu. The menu was very large, it had something for everyone. When my server returned with my Coke, I ordered the Hot Beef open faced sandwich with mashed potatoes and a cup of the cream of broccoli soup. My soup came right out, and it was very good. It was cream and flavorful, I really enjoyed it. Soon after, even before I was done with my soup, my meal came out. Everything was smothered in a nice beef gravy. The beef was sliced like at a deli, but it was tender and on top of two pieces of white bread. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. Everything tasted good together. I thought this was a great place to stop and get good value for your money. I would eat here again. read more

Not much to look at and off the beaten path but great food and service! The parking lot was packed. We had to wait about 12 minutes to be seated. I wish they took names instead of just asking "who's next?" I had the catfish - it was fresh and crispy, not greasy at all. Catfish was also huge! I took home my 2nd filet, I just couldn't finish it. The green beans were a bit mushy but that's the only negative. Huge roll! My husband and his Mom had breakfast. They said the fried eggs were perfect. The pancakes were large, fat, and fluffy. The biscuit Benedict is biscuits and gravy and eggs and hashbrowns and it looks amazing with the waffles. I don't like fruit directly on my waffles but they're good. This was the last time I'm putting up with rude wait staff. This place is an absolute nightmare for a restaurant and I've only been there a few times. This morning I went with my wife and a friend. Our friend asked our waitress about any breakfast specials. "There on the wall" as she pointed and walked away! As we were leaving she was looking surprised. Even if we told her why she wouldn't get it. I'm looking at the 4 stars on this place. Honestly it should have maybe 2 1/2 stars. I myself gave it 5 stars three years ago. I had heard great things about this café, so my husband and I were very excited to try it out. I love a good pork tenderloin, and was told Joplin Café had the biggest one of all time ever. I'm pretty sure that is an accurate statement. Their pork tenderloin sandwich is a good 12" wide, overwhelming the small burger bun it's sitting in. I had to cut the tenderloin in half and stack it in order to eat it with any semblance of a lady. Oh, and it's super yummy to boot. Definitely recommend this and will no doubt get it again. Hubby went for full on breakfast - hash browns, eggs, chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy. He loved every last bit of it. I snuck a bite of his biscuits and gravy, and I absolutely agree. Good stuff! We will absolutely be back! If you love diner food, cozy comfy stick to your ribs food, this place is A-OK. read more

We ate here last Saturday during the flood of 2017. It was our first time at this restaurant. The place was packed at 1pm. We got a table right away. The waitress was friendly she was attentive. Our food came out fast and delicious. The waitress raved about one of their specials. It was really good. Way to much food . Took leftovers home! We will be back. My meal was only $8. Searched for a place with good chicken fried steak and this place was recommended. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and cream gravy, cole slaw and pintos beans. Overall the food was good. The mashed potatoes and cole slaw was very good, fresh and homemade. The pintos had a scorched tastes to them and the gravy had bits of something (maybe bacon??), it would have better without whatever it was for sure and unfortunately, like most restaurants these days, it was a frozen pre-bread steak---really disappointing. read more

Awesome place. Ordered two eggs, hash browns, and a slice of country ham. Oh and some biscuits and gravy. Eggs over easy were perfect, hash browns just right, and a HUGE piece of ham. Biscuits and gravy were good just had to add some pepper. Bring your hunger or a friend to help you eat all the food they bring you, cause they bring a lot. The building looks small but there's plenty of room inside. Probably the best place in Joplin to get breakfast. If your getting off the interstate to eat.......drive across the tracks and eat here. Rude waitstaff. This is the second time we've gone in there. We won't be back. Waited 15 minutes the first time for someone to come grab our drink order. After another 20 minutes we were able to order our food. I have an allergy and requested for that item to not be part of my food. It came out with it anyways. When I asked for it to be remade I was given attitude. Today we decided to give them one last shot. We went in and was told to sit back in the corner and someone would be right with us. We waited 10 minutes and nothing. We watched people come in and get seated and served. One waitress decided it was much easier to shout across the restaurant at a customer and have a conversation instead of going to his table. Everyone in the restaurant now knows he had his teeth removed. The family sitting across from us at another table asked for their food to be remade as it was done wrong and they too got attitude from the waitress with hot pink nails. We left without service. Not a bad little diner located in an industrial area in Joplin. I ordered the country breakfast which consisted of biscuits and gravy with three eggs your way. The biscuits were homemade, the gravy had good flavor and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The service was quick and friendly. All of this for six dollars and change. We were looking for something local for breakfast, not a chain. Got on Yelp, the name made me think local, out of the way so not right in the middle of the business district, and reviews were good. So we thought we would try it. So glad we did! My bacon and eggs were done perfectly and my French toast was amazing. Couldn't eat the ham and potatoes because I was too full, but my husband said they were good! My husband had biscuits and gravy and said the only thing he would improve on is more sausage in the gravy. Would recommend this to anyone read more
