Ayara Thai Street Cafe is a family owned business in which the wife cooks her family recipes and the husband attends the tables. It's one of the best restaurants I have been to in my life. Probably the best Thai restaurant in St. Augustine. Not only was the food delicious -- seriously, everything we ordered was amazing -- the service was extraordinary. Jak, the owner, went above and beyond to ensure that we and our dogs were as comfortable as possible while eating outside in the Florida heat. He opened the big umbrella to provide us with shade, brought a bowl of water for our dogs as well as some treats, and even went as far as bringing out a fan to provide us with some breeze. My husband and I were blown away by this service; we've never been to a restaurant were the owner cares so much about the customers. As aforementioned, the food was also incredible. We started off with some curry fish cakes and curry puffs; both were very tasty and came with a sweet peanut sauce with vegetables. For our main dishes, we had the red curry chicken -- very flavorful and deliciously spicy, but not too spicy -- and the drunken duck noodles -- also very flavorful. To finish off our meal, we had the sticky rice mango, which was very yummy. Additionally, we had the mango boba and peach passion fruit boba teas, which were very refreshing in this summer weather. We'll definitely be back whenever we come back to St. Augustine and will recommend it to our friends and family when they visit. read more

First time in St Augustine, FL and was craving Thai food. Glad we stopped in. It wasn't crazy busy, parking was available and free and the service was really good. We were greeted politely as we walked in. It wasn't full with folks like some of the other restaurants and we appreciated the vibe and calmness. Will say the prices were more on the pricier side but the option sizes were good so definitely shareable. The two gentlemen were very kind and patient. Okay, we were warned. This place is very, very slow, as there are only two people cooking and serving food. Don't come here if you're starving or want a quick bite to eat. That being said, the food is some of the best Thai cooking I have ever tried. Every single dish and sauce was phenomenal. The inside is decorated nicely and they have a few tables and a few booths. Located close to historic section of Saint Augustine without being too close to the crowds. I'd definitely eat here again, but maybe not come at peak dining hours. I was absolutely starving and it was torture smelling the Thai cooking while my tummy grumbled. I survived. And enjoyed a fantastic meal that was worth the wait. read more

This place is amazing. The saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover", is very true. You might drive or walk by and be uninspired BUT that would be a mistake. It is husband and wife owned and the wife is almost always the one cooking your food. They are both friendly and helpful if you're not sure about something on the menu. The atmosphere is casual, reminding me of a typical mainland Southeast Asian patio restaurant. The food is fantastic, authentic, and from the owner's father's recipes. There is Americanized Thai food that you get most places; good but lacking. Ayara will be like having Thai for the first time. Simply the best Thai in St Augustine. read more

Absolutely delicious. The chicken with vegan Pad See Ew veggies was outstanding -- perfectly seasoned with rich, savory flavor and yummy caramelized onions that really made the dish shine. The noodles were cooked just right, the veggies were fresh and well balanced, and the chicken was super tender and juicy. Well food looks authentic but even it is off the tourist part of time the price is high, consider Thai food or Asian food genre. The place is like a take out place, nothing fancy, but is charging 30 bucks for some curry dishes and overall high price for everything. They don't even have glasses , only plastic cup. For that price I can do brunch at La Novelle or the French Pantry ..etc I had eaten Thai food in many cities in this country, this is by far the most expensive one!! read more

The food matched the hype! A nice, small family restaurant steps from the Fountain of Youth tourist trap. We each had pad Thai with either chicken, beef or tofu. They don't do ranges of hot like most places, but rather provide chili oil and/or flakes upon request. The ragoons were solid as well. The service was prompt and courteous. Super fresh food! Server was really nice and attentive and the restaurant was cozy and smelled amazing. We had the fried spring rolls, chicken gyoza, and mango boba to start- each was on a $5 special when we went and very tasty. For meals, we had shrimp pad Thai and the "spicy" eggplant with basil. They were both excellent! Their website and menu both are clear about not having spice levels, and I can confirm both meals (including the eggplant) were very mild in heat (but very flavorful). That was fine with us, but definitely ask for the optional side chili if you want more spice! We are visiting from out of town, but would definitely come back if we were local. Chicken fried rice was also a favorite since it was served with strips of fried chicken on top. My daughter said the Chicken udon was the best she has ever eaten . this easily ranks among my favorite restaurants in town. i always come here for lunch when i work and am yet to be disappointed. you chose your own seating, with some windows letting in more light than others (i have a favorite spot). the dishes they use for the food look quite pretty and offer an welcomed change from your usual white platters. some of there food includes more ingredients that plenty of places decided to leave out, like lemon grass or galangal in the tom kha. i wouldn't quite say this place is the cheapest, if slightly above average, but the fantastic quality and taste more than make up for it. the staff are genuine and friendly, one man always pops a squat about on level with you sitting when he takes your order, and they offer a military discount of 10% my current goal is try everything on the menu, and get some of my friends and family's opinions as well read more

Stopped in after visiting the Fountain of Youth. The food was delicious. We all got our food at different times because they made everything fresh!! We just shared while we waited for each dish. Everything was SO good! The lady serving us was adorable. She doted on us like we were her grandchildren. She said she is 70, but she must be drinking from the fountain of youth because she was spry, and remembered everything we ordered. The table had a vase full of fresh mint and herbs from the garden outside, and there are fresh plants all around the dining room.
