I've been so excited to try this spot out. I saw it on IG and couldn't wait to get here. Then I started reading reviews, and was torn because it was either a 5 star or a 1 star experience. Strange...... it must depend who the cook is that day. But our chef was obviously amazing. The food was stupid good. I can't even believe how much my husband and I ate. SO STUFFED!! The Thai tea coffee was delicious Our favorite Thai dish is the massaman curry, and this was definitely the best one we have had in Arizona. Then we tried the signature dish- KHAO SOI... I usually order takeout but the few times I've gone inside for pickup the place looks busy and nicely decorated. Also dont skip on their Vietnamese coffee. I go just for that alone. I was really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We arrived at 9:27 PM, only to be told that the dining room closes at 9:15 PM--something that wasn't clearly stated anywhere. I totally understand that restaurants have closing times, but it was frustrating that we had made the effort to get there, even taking a Lyft, only to be turned away with nowhere to go while waiting for our ride back. Even when explaining the situation to them they were unwilling to compromise at all...Also whenever we go around the restaurant there's always people loitering around and cat calling at me, smoking herb outside the restaurant.... A little more transparency about their hours would go a long way, and maybe some customer service that acknowledges the situation rather than just shutting the door on paying customers. I hope they improve their communication because, as of now, I can't say I'd recommend making the trip unless you're absolutely certain they'll let you in. The service is good and so is the ambiance with a very good location (Mekong supermarket in the same complex) but I was disappointed with the food. Aesthetic was a modern Thai theme with some nice art work on the walls. Appetizer sampler: 5/5 highly recommend if you're with a group of people so that you could try a variety of their apps. Pad Thai: 2/5 it was very sweet and that was the only thing I could taste, it needed lime or a side of salt to balance out the sweetness. Boat Noodles: 3/5 it was lacking the vinegar, sour taste that I'm used to with boat noodles. Also they added Chinese broccoli" (I think) with it that was different. Pumpkin curry: 5/5 this I would recommend- it was a nice curry, coconut taste and not overly sweet with a nice balance with all the vegetables & meat. I came here for a double date with our friends because they wanted to try some new Thai food. What better place to go than Mekong Plaza with the variety of restaurants they have in store. Upon entering the restaurant, the ambiance is inviting and calming at the same time. The servers were smiling and very friendly which made the experience that much more pleasant. We decided to get an order of chicken pad Thai and the appetizer sampler. The appetizer sampler was the perfect mix of protein, savory, and fried goodness. My favorite item was the chicken satay with the side of peanut sauce. Yum! The chicken pad Thai was prepped "hot" which was the perfect level of spice for us. It came out hard raw cabbage, so we politely ask to see if we can steam or warm up the cabbage. The Tom Kha soup was to die for, maybe my favorite I've ever had. The pad Thai was decent as well. The fried rice was honestly horrible, but we had asked that they made it a curry fried rice like we've had at many other Thai restaurants and similar to their pineapple fried rice minus the pineapple and other add in's, but theirs was just not good. This is our go-to Thai place for meeting family on the East side and we always look forward to it. They have all the usual Thai restaurant staples but I was excited to find they also have Khao Soi, which I've only had at one Thai restaurant in Vancouver. It's fantastic and the portions are HUGE so it's easily another lunch or dinner. They also have bubble tea, Thai iced tea and some other fruity drinks my kids loved, and when you ask for not-spicy they can make it perfect for my picky eater ;) Quick efficient service and very nice. Very disappointed that I have to pay with card for ordering over the phone for just 1 item ($15 or so). I placed order over the phone a week ago (higher amount $30 something) and the guy didn't ask for my card. He even told me that only order over $40 need to pay in advance. We ordered the Tom yum hotpot for appetizer, and pad Thai/ beef eggplant/ cashew chicken as entrees. Pad Thai was good in taste, yet a little pale and mild in taste. The eggplant beef was good, yet the eggplant had a tough skin that was somewhat inedible (maybe old?). The cashew chicken stir fry had actually fried chicken pieces, not the usual stir fry we are used to. I was recommended by a few people throughout the year to try this place out. A friend and I came in on a Tuesday afternoon. There were maybe four other tables besides us and two servers. It took us from beginning to end, TWO FREAKING HOURS to eat and get our check, for LUNCH. Holy moly! Our server wasn't attentive at all, while also rushing us in the beginning. Our food came at a decent time and it was a nice portion size for lunch. My daughter and I got the BBQ pork ( it was pretty dry) great flavor, and a shrimp pad thai, big portion. My friend got some type of dish with fish, he enjoyed it. Then my daughter and I ended with mango sticky rice, which they forgot to put in. Our to go order was messed up and we ended up getting something a bit different. Our server disappeared so we had to get the attention of the second older server that was working. They split our check wrong and it took them about 15 minutes to print it, then another 15 to fix it. We ended up spending so much time here that we didn't have time to go grocery shopping.
