A friend and I were meeting for lunch and shopping and we chose Chillicious Thai but discovered upon arrival that they are 3 weeks out from opening. So my friend took us down the road to Thai Ruby. Entering the restaurant I could tell it was going to be different. The smells...wow! The decor, super nice compared to any Thai restaurant I have ever visited. They had so much to choose from and I couldn't wait to eat! I opted for the Hot Pepper - 2 out of 3 for heat, with Tofu. Yes it was yummy. I ate it all and the heat was perfect, flavor so good! Thai Ruby has a very nice finish inside, but it is not true Thai food. it is like Chinese food merged with Thai. it is just "off" on any recipes I tried that are traditional Thai dishes. for example, the Ginger fish tasted like strong sesame oil. sesame oil in Thai? Thai Ruby was a pleasant surprise. It was recommended to me by a friend, so my family and I decided to give it a try. It is in a shopping strip that has no personality, but when you walk in you are transported to a little restaurant in Thailand. The restaurant has a lot of charm and character. The service was slow that night as I think they were short one waiter. I will have to see how service is on my 2nd try and report back. We started out with an appetizer sampler--we loved everything on it. I had the Tom Kha soup which was delicious--very tasty. I also had the Pad Kee Mao which was also tasty. In my rush to get to an appointment from work, I was really pleased to see I had arrived early thanks to the lighter summer traffic. I hadn't had lunch and since it was a Friday at 1:30pm, I felt that should give me time to grab a bite to eat. I've had my eye on this place for a while and decided it was time to give it a try. As I entered I saw several signs on the door. One indicated they were BYOB. The other indicated they had lunch specials from 11 to 3:30pm Monday to Friday. This always pleases me as I rarely get to try lunch specials in person due to my normal work schedule. Upon entering, a server asked me if I was dining alone and then seemed to change his mind to this being possible and started to walk towards the kitchen saying I must have a to go order. Weird... do people by themselves decide they can't possibly eat? I told him I would be dining by myself, but only had about 25 minutes and asked if this would be enough time. He told me it wasn't a problem at all and told me to take a seat by the window. He arrived momentarily to give me a menu and get my drink order. He then came immediatly with my drink and asked if I knew what I wanted. I had only read 2 lines so I told him I wasn't sure yet. He watched for cues and arrived as soon as I thought I knew what I wanted. Thank you for taking my time crunch seriously. What really impressed me about their lunch menu was that the lunch entrees were $8.95 regardless of protein. I have never seen someone charge the same for chicken and shrimp and was really impressed with that. Since I didn't take too much time to look at the menu and took no time to look at the non lunch menu, this will have me coming back to slowly peruse their menu in the future and try something else. I wasn't really set on what I wanted and ended up going with his recommendation and getting the Amazing Peanut Chicken. Lunch specials come with either soup and an eggroll or a salad. The soup that day was Chicken and Rice and it only took 2 minutes for the server to return with my soup and eggroll. The soup had a good broth, the rice was a little mushy for my preference, but overall flavor was good. The eggroll was really a spring roll but the perfect size and had such a delightful crisp to it. I didn't even get halfway through the soup before the entrée was in front of me. At this point I told the server I was really impressed with how fast they were and thanked him. He pointed to another table saying they were on the way to the airport and this request was common. It was really nice as it allowed me to relax and enjoy my food and still make it to my appointment on time. The chicken was good quality and I thought the heart impression in the rice was a nice touch. The peanut sauce was sweeter than I like, but I didn't mind much as I had lazily gotten a recommendation instead of choosing my own food, lol. The rice was cooked well which was a relief as undercooked rice is a pet peeve of mine. The atmosphere is pretty relaxing and the décor reads upscale for this fast casual spot, that surprised me, but in a pleasant way. This could work for a date or a casual lunch with friends just the same. Since I asked for my check early, it was nice that I was checked on again. When I left, no one was on the floor and I could see them playing on their phones at the entrance to the kitchen. I left without anyone saying goodbye or thanking me. This didn't disrupt my visit (remember, I had a time crunch) but made me wonder if people dine and dash a lot. For me, ratings are always about the whole experience; food is very important but so is service and the details of the visit. On this particular trip, the food and strange start were about 3 1/2 stars- not bad at all. However, I really appreciated the fast service and extremely reasonable prices! Considering the nature of my visit, that made it 4 1/2 stars for me on that day. I am definitely going to return and try more! read more

As close to authentic your gonna find in flower mound. i order shrimp pad Thai and when in season i have gotten the mango sticky rice dessert. the pad thai is yummy, i like that they understand spicy and give it to me mild and give me the chili seasoning on the side and let me control the heat. As for the mango dessert normally is pretty good, last time the sticky rice was hard which was disappointing but out maybe 6 time visiting and that was first time being disappointed i'm ok with that. read more

I LOVE this place. The food is so deliciously spicy. Anytime I'm feelin a little blocked up in my bowels I pay a little visit here. The Thai hot green curry is a majestic little firecracker of a dish. Trust me. Eat that green curry then wait about an hour and your butt will be making emergency ejections like a fighter jet bout to crash in the Everglades. All you need is about an hour to yourself in the restroom, a nice tv show on your iPad, and then you let the molten lava pour on out of you like soft serve as you detoxify the inner workings of your body. If you're in the Flower Mound area and you're craving Thai food- this is your place. This is an Excellent Thai restaurant on 2499. The decor is Thai all the way with dark woods and red and gold tapestries and trim. Complete with Thai statues and artifacts, there is also what sounds like it could be the music of Thailand being played over the sound system. I find that this always makes a restaurant feel more authentic. I ordered the Thom Ka soup with tofu and the Chicken Pad Thai. I know- one of these days I'm going to branch out a little more, but when I crave Thai, this is what I am longing for. Just the traditional stuff done right. The Tom Ka soup was a sweet coconut base flavored with cilantro. It had huge chunks of Tofu, large mushrooms and a couple other subtle thai veggies. The Chicken in the Pad Thai was very tender, the noodles were al dente and the peanut flavor was not over done, being that it was not drowned in sauce. The service was great. My waiter was really nice and totally on top of it. One thing to mention is that I could not find their hours anywhere on Yelp. There are certain things that are mandatory with great Thai Food when you grow up in Los Angeles. It may sound menial however, the consistency and flavor of the peanut sauce (assuring it does not come from a can or a jar) and cucumber salad with red onion served with Chicken Sate is something you really miss. The other is the quality of rice noodle in the Pad Thai. Even if you don't eat Pad Thai, this is a staple for Americanized Thai Food, quality here will reflect in the other dishes. Thai Ruby has become one of our favorite Thai Restaurants, we list whenever we are in Dallas. The Decor and atmosphere are intimate and warm, they set an excellent mood for Asian Cuisine. They do an excellent job preparing our favorite Thai Dishes. As a heads up: for some reason they moved to a BYOB Policy on Alcohol about 6 months ago. As of our last visit, this was still the case. We are not big Alcohol Drinkers, unless the food absolutely requires it. It may be some relief that we have, on several occasions, seen people run out for their favorite adult beverage and still return to the restaurant. As far as I am concerned, this is the best Thai restaurant in Flower Mound, Lewisville, or Highland Village. The food is always fresh and flavorful. Being a fan of over the top spicy food, Thai Ruby is the top of my list. If you like things crazy hot, be sure to ask for "Mike Hot". Don't say I didn't warn you; it is not for the feint of heart. Nice little place in a strip setting. My one negative is that there is no separate take-out area, so those customers traipse through the dining room to fetch their meals. That being said, decor is done in a touristy Thai look, which separates it from the many 'standard' Thai restaurants. Service is always prompt, and attentive throughout the meal without being overbearing. Food is authentic (I've spent some time traveling throughout Thailand), and the chef is willing to accommodate those who like a true Thai- level spice. I've been here a number of times and will return! My Yelp rating scale: 1 for atmosphere. Is it new and trendy? Does it fit with an ethnic motif? Is it upscale, is it a dive (in a good way). 1 for service. You can have a great meal with poor service, but that also differentiates a five star from a lower rating. 2 for food, because that's what we're here for. How does it taste?
