We visited this place last night and really liked the food. It's great for vegetarians- we ordered veg dumplings, spring rolls, kids lo mein, green curry and ginger curry. They all tasted amazing and cooked to perfection. Wide variety of veggies. They were busy but they set up a table outside for us with an umbrella so our kids didn't get wet. They sometimes have issues with orders/making sure that you get the food you want, but they are always immensely kind and understanding if they get your order wrong and they make it a point to make sure that you're happy and are enjoying delicious Thai food! *Fried shrimp cake (tod mun): Always a must-order whenever getting Thai food! I love tod mun, and Thai Room makes the best I've ever had. They're HUGE and so full of texture and flavor, and the dipping sauce they come with isn't too sweet and syrupy compared with such at many other restaurants. *Spicy squid: I love squid, but the squid one is usually served at Thai restaurants are wayyyy too chewy and clearly previously frozen. The squid in the dish we ordered was soft, fresh, and served alongside many deliciously crisp vegetables and was packed with flavor and spice! *Bean curd with mixed vegetables: This dish surprised me, as I've never had bean curd served in this way! It was small and soft, as opposed to overly fried and chunky. The vegetables were fresh and delicious as they were in every other dish here! *Shrimp pad Thai (spicy): This dish was forgotten in our order (much to my brother's chagrin, as it's his favorite), but they still made us a fresh batch when they realized their mistake and also gave us a free dessert and refund. I didn't try the pad Thai, but everyone who did LOVED it--it was full of chunks of fluffy egg, was insanely spicy (which we love), and had lots of generous and fresh shrimp pieces. *Imperial seafood with basil: One of the best parts of getting a seafood dish near the beach is the freshness of the seafood! They were quite generous with the amount of succulent scallops and shrimpies in this dish, and the basil was very pronounced and delicious. *Thai room soup (spicy): I usually don't order soup, but I always love it! This was a delicious coconut-based soup, filled with spices, herbs, and chicken. The spiciness and the coconutty-ness complemented each other wonderfully! read more

Fantastic place! It was so good, I returned within the same week. First of all, the staff are wonderful. I am most grateful to the servers and the cooks who ensured that we were happy. The deliciousness of their dishes was unmatched by the many Thai places I had been to in the last few years. This cuisine is so aromatic, the flavors complex and intense. We had: lemongrass soup, egg rolls, papaya salad, basil sauce with duck, another time with squid, flat rice noodles with pork and broccoli. So incredibly good! read more

One of the few authentic aisan places in outerbanks. We almost go here everytime when we are in the outerbanks. All the entried we have tried so far were awesome and very flavorful. Make sure you say mild if you cant handle spicy food; their medium spicy is very spicy. All covid guidelines were followed when we visited this time. Wow! Everyone was telling us to come here and they were right! After a full day of sightseeing we were exhausted and decided to grab some takeout. Best decision ever! I ordered the chicken green curry and papaya salad. It was the most authentic Thai I've had in a while. They definitely use enough fish sauce in everything and I love that. I ordered medium spicy and it was pretty spicy. I'm Vietnamese so I can handle spice and I gotta say my lips got hot! But I couldn't stop eating! The raw green beans in the salad was great! Definitely a more authentically Thai taste! The only slight disappointment was how tiny the green curry portion was. For 13.95 I expected much more. Even the rice they gave me was way too little. I am not sure what I enjoyed more, the food or the staff. This being said and it being my first time, I am going to go with the staff. They were super friendly, right on with the proper amount of attention (never was I thirsty or in need of a refill of any kind). The service was quick, and the food was ample. We do Family style for the most part...with this crazy sized Family that's how we have to roll when the kiddos are along! We enjoyed our General Tao's Chicken (we requested mild) which was on the sweet side with a sweet chili sauce base and pineapple thrown in which was a nice twist. I for some reason thought it would be like General Tso's but was glad that it had a wonderful flavor all its own. I would say it goes hand and hand with a persons general idea of sweet and sour chicken in taste and appearance...but again has its own genre of Thai that we all really enjoyed. This was the first time I had a Thai fried rice with a tomato base to it. It wasn't bad, just had to acclimate a little to the new taste and appearance. Shifting gears can take time for someone who has their own personal favorites when it comes to Thai food. As you may have recognized from my pattern of reviews, everywhere I visit I look up the closest best Thai eatery...and this one definitely hit the spot! We left happy and full, and what shined through to us personally was that they have a style all their own...and we really enjoyed it! read more

Ordered takeout, 2 orders of Chicken Pad Thai & 2 orders of spring rolls. The Pad Thai was delicious & the quantity was huge! The spring rolls were the shrimp/pork variety and were unfortunately very salty, so much so we didn't eat but a few bites and had to toss. Pretty solid for beach Thai food! Called for take out and was quoted 40 minutes however it was done in less than 10! Fiancé said it was the best pad Thai she's ever eaten and she loves Thai food so i trust her! 10/10 would go back. Easy parking as well. read more

Thai Room Restaurant is a very unassuming looking restaurant both inside and out. If this is a negative, know that the food is spectacular. Waitstaff is friendly, caring, professional and makes you feel that your experience is their duty. Started off with a beautifully prepared Papaya salad. One of the best I have ever had. Next we had an order of summer rolls. Only the best I have ever tasted. The classic Pad Thai was perfectly prepared. To finish off the meal, mango and sticky rice did not disappoint. I'm going to disagree with the 'not authentic Thai' comments. Maybe y'all ordered the wrong thing? There are a few menu items catered to more American tastes BUT there are two staples I always look for when finding an AUTHENTIC Thai restaurant - outside of the food. The King. And a spoon that comes with your main dish. Thai people have great reverence for King Rama IX and you'll notice he and the royal family pictured as soon as you walk in the door. ALSO when eating a Thai dish, it's customary to put a bit of rice and a bit of curry on a spoon and always eat from THAT - not your fork. When our meals came to the table - we each had a lovely large spoon right along with a helping portion of deliciousness. I had the beef massaman curry and it was perfect. Savory, spicy, full of fresh flavor and tender meat. My vegetarian mother-in-law said the cashew veggies were the best she's ever had. My husband (who lived in Thailand for two years) said it's some of the best Thai food he's had outside of Thailand. After spending significant time visiting Thailand - I would agree. My husband and I went Thai Room for dinner on a Thursday evening. The feel is very family-oriented and the aesthetics are a bit mixed. We were seated right away. We ordered the tom yum soup (mild), drunken noodles, and pad thai (mild). We waited for quite some time for our order, but that was because there was a party of about 40 that arrived about 15 minutes after we ordered. The soup was just okay - the taste was fine, but there were so much residual/bits of lemongrass that it made eating the soup a bit difficult. The remnants should have been strained before serving. My husband's drunken noodles were okay - the beef was overly cooked, where all the edges were charred. My pad thai was not good at all. It was heavily "sauced" which is not something I've experienced before - and the sauce had this sweet and sour taste and coloring to it. There was a heavy dose of crushed peanuts on top which tried to camouflaged the lack of other typical ingredients that are in the dish. The service was fine, and people were very nice. read more

Second thing ordered was Chicken Snow Peas Thai style mild spicy. Received that but it was at least medium spicy. Delicious, since being back to NC, living in Raleigh area, we could not find a decent Thai Restaurant. So we came to visit OBX for a mini 2 day vacation and found this Thai spot. Thai Fried Rice has got to be one of the best I've ever had! My wife ordered the Pad See Ewk and she loved it!! We also got the Thai Spring Rolls ( vegetarian) AMAZING! At the beach, everything is more expensive. But this place is only slightly more expensive than your usual Chinese joint. It's labeled as Thai but mostly has Chinese dishes. But, it simply satisfied my late food cravings. Ordered takeout, Mongolian beef 1 hour before closing. Food came out in a reasonable time frame. Some people tell you to avoid the Mongolian beef. I have to agree with others that this is not authentic Thai. I should have paused as soon as I saw that the menu said "Thai-Chinese". In my experience, restaurants that attempt to do more than one type of cuisine (and that aren't "fusion" on principle) tend to do all types badly. This place is definitely more Chinese than Thai, and it's mediocre even for Chinese. Just to get it out of the way: I had carry-out on a Saturday night. It wasn't that crowded, but we waited a good 10 minutes for someone to come to the bar to take our order. I was about ready to walk out because there wasn't even anyone around to tell us how long it would be. Once the order was taken, it took about 20 minutes to get the food. For Thai (or Chinese), that's a pretty long time. The woman behind the bar was nice when she was around: She brought us water and asked if we wanted anything else while we waited. So, in general, service was mediocre. I had the Pad Thai at moderate heat. The heat level was good: My nose ran (which is the point for me, to clear my sinuses), but I could still taste the food. Unfortunately, the taste was mostly just sugar. There was no bean sprout at all, only cabbage (that's... cheap). The lime was stuffed at the bottom of the Chinese food box so that, if I hadn't poured the food out onto a plate, I wouldn't have discovered it until the food was all gone. When I tried to get lime juice out of the lime slice, I couldn't: It had been all dried out by the heat of the food. The shrimp were teeny tiny little salad shrimp, and there was some kind of processed funk squares throughout--tofu, I presume, which was not on the menu and which I did not ask for because, you know, estrogens. No, thank you. Overall, not a good Pad Thai. And Pad Thai is most people's "test dish" for Thai restaurants. So I won't be going back. Advice to management: Be Thai, or be Chinese, but don't try to be both. read more

I rarely do reviews, but had to put this out for others. I'll start off by saying, the food was excellent! The crab Rangoon's were some of the best I've ever had. I also write this knowing there is a snag with having less staff for Covid: BUT, it's Thai food. When we placed our order on line, it gave us a 45-50 timeline. Totally fine, when my husband and best friend went to pick it up, they waited ANOTHER 45 minutes AFTER our 'wait' , in which they noticed, barely anyone was in the restaurant. I worked in the restaurant service industry for over 15 years. I get it, but two hours for Thai take out, nope! The food is great, but I guess place your order a day in advance. read more

Great presence, great drink , the 20 something girl doing take out orders .. lemme find her name from my ticket lol..it say check out pm bar # 32 girl seem to be be cool and then I realized she is jaded from working "" too much" probably worked out here a couple years , ...I'm good friends with the original owners been coming in for 20 years , she said honey...I hope I make money soon, really rude.. if you know anything about this beach or this restaurant. Great Thai find hidden away in a strip mall at Kill Devil Hills. Thanks to the phone app, we were able to locate this place and enjoy a change of cuisine from the ubiquitous american/ italian/ seafood options at OBX. Very flavorful food though slightly high on the heat scale. We loved the food, especially the crab rangoon, shrimp lo mein and panang chicken curry. Also, the wait-staff and owners were very friendly and attentive. Hope they keep dishing out a slice of world cuisine in this otherwise pretty uni-dimensional town. read more

Very friendly staff. Food was OK. Tom Kha Gai soup was all coconut milk and aromatics, very little chicken or anything else. Panang Curry was an improvement but not on par with my hometown Thai restaurant in Virginia. Luckily, the warm and friendly staff made up for these slights in the cuisine. read more

5/9/2015 Authentic Thai decorations in the restaurant...but NOT authentic Thai food. My dad ordered a Pad Thai and I ordered a Drunken Noodle with beef. The Pad Thai was soppy and flavorless with a couple of small baby shrimps and the Drunken Noodle was made with thin, processed noodles drowned in dark soy sauce and topped with low quality beef. My mom ordered the Thai Green Curry which was acceptable and closer to how it's supposed to taste. In addition to the low quality food, the service was awful. It was a busy night, but it took 1 hour to get the waitress's attention and get our order in. Then, we waited another hour for our food. Never coming back again. read more
