This is one of my Favorite Chinese food places from here in the outer Banks to upper New York State. I am not sure but I believe this place has changed hands and is under NEW OWNERSHIP! Look at the Google reviews. 4.1 stars out of 5 stars. 70 reviews! the food was Great unlike many of the reviews that people left 3 and plus years ago. GREAT FOOD! The family running it are very nice! The food had great flavor! Hot Food Cheese Steak Egg rolls! The Chicken vegetable was very good 2 people got the same. The garlic shrimp and vegetables was very good! The pu pu plater had good flavor! everything was good the beef on a stick was a little dry though. Pork egg rolls were one of the best as most people know they can be different at every place. We all really enjoyed the yellow rice and most places do not serve it. What I believe makes this restaurant unique from the others is the sauce they make for the dishes and it's a light sauce. The other thing that was unique was the celery as a vegetable. Oh let's not forget the Cheese Steak egg rolls! Oh so good! The food was very bland lacking flavor. The fried rice? Not even sure how to exaplain other than it was just ok. Spring roll were just ok..... tried several items on the menu and just doesn't have the "ah haha" flavor. Kind of disappointed...... read more

Ordered delivery from here after a long day out. I got some of the wanton soup, the fried gyoza, and the black pepper chicken with lo mein. The wanton soup was very flavorful and I believe was beef broth based compared to most places which is chicken based. The fried gyoza was good not great. Basic middle of the road gyoza. The black pepper chicken was really tasty with lots of great flavor although even for pepper based chicken I think they put to many green peppers into the dish. It was almost hard to find the chicken inside all the green peppers. The lo mein wasn't that good. It was basically just noodles no real sauce or seasoning of any kind which made for really bland noodles. Still overall an enjoyable meal. read more

So very disappointed and angry at this place. A J1 Student that works in town came in with his manager to have lunch today because this is all the J1 student wanted before leaving to go back to his home country. Well, they were kicked out of the restaurant because the J1 student "looked too Arabic". Well, just so you know the gentleman is from Jordan and is legally working in our country and is a student. What is wrong with these people? The gentleman that told them to leave said they were never welcome in the establishment again. Of course, they had already paid for their food and were sitting down and eating when they were told they had to leave. These people both live in your community and work in your community and this is how you treat them. Tourist are there every day and every week...I will personally make sure they know NOT to visit this establishment any more. This is NOT ok! Friendly, fast carry out. However...2 visits in 2 days. lunch size curry shrimp and pepper steak: Very little meat, giant pieces of vegetable which was most of dish. Neither were very good. Tonight dinner carry out.. gave it another chance... sesame beef swimming in sticky, gooey, sugary paste... tasteless white rice when I ordered fried rice. Eggdrop soup had no flavor. Picked up Pork Lomein, spring Rolls & Shrimp Fried Rice for a quick easy Valentine's night dinner. We have never had a bad meal from Shun Xing until tonight. We have been ordering from here for several years. The Pork Lomein noodles weren't the best, kinda over cooked and there was very little pork and veges. The shrimp fried rice was also lacking shrimp (my husband counted 4 shrimp in the quart container) and veges although the flavor of the rice was good. Best part of the meal was the spring rolls. Always seems busy so I thought I'd give it a try. We had the general tso and white rice, chicken fried rice, crab rangoon and spring rolls. They shorted us a spring roll. The chicken fried rice was yellow rice that seemed to be flavored chicken....really nasty. The general tso chicken (supposed to be hot) was not even remotely spicy and didn't taste anything like general tso. Wont return.. read more

Trying to find a good go to Chinese takeout, this one was our third try. Menu is typical. We ordered a variety, sweet and sour chicken, pork lo mein, won ton soup, fried pork dumplings, .....the chicken was ok, lots of breading and not so much chicken. Lo mein was good, soup didn't have much taste, Kung bo chicken was very good. The dried noodles were stale. Spring rolls were good. Overall it was good but nothing special. We live in Southern Shores and order from this Chinese restaurant occasionally, usually the Steamed Dumplings and Sesame Chicken are pretty consistent, but today we tried something different, the PooPoo Platter. The Shrimp Toast was burned, the Spare Ribs were burned, and the Chicken Sticks were burned! DO NOT waste $14.25 on this PooPoo Plater! We were extremely disappointed! read more

First, I appreciate that there is little to no contact in the COVID era. Orders are placed online or over the phone. Pickup is through a window in the door. Unfortunately, they charge a "convenience fee," I guess for the convenience of allowing you to pick up your food? Speaking of the food. It's not good. My mother had the beef with broccoli and the beef was salty. I had the shrimp with lobster sauce. In a quart container, there were four medium size shrimp and an almost obscene amount of fake lobster, so if that's what you're into... Also, I ordered fried rice instead of white (for an upcharge). This wasn't typical fried rice. First of all, it wasn't fried. Secondly, it was yellow (almost like an Indian rice with saffron), and to complete the trifecta there was no vegetable or egg in it. Shun Xing has the potential to be the best takeout; however the pork fried rice (a basic staple) was a joke !!! Lazy ? not caring ? cheap ? i dont know what any self respecting chef would serve this ! it was old yellow (wrong color) with nothing in it rice .Where was the pork ,beansprouts ,diced vegetables ?????? The food was great and it was prepared quickly. It was just what we were looking for - great Chinese takeout! We will definitely be back.

In town for vacation and mistakenly picked this place for Chinese. Wish I had taken pics of the food. First the woman taking my order acted as if she was remembering everything because she wasn't entering it in the register. Wouldn't you know she completely forgot that I said spring rolls. Because I asked for them and they weren't in our order. The chicken on a stick looked burnt so my boys wouldn't eat them at first and they're usually their favorite thing. I had some and it didn't taste burnt so I coaxed them to eat some. It was dry but didn't taste burnt. I also ordered house lo-mein which was greasy and not very flavorful or seasoned. Sometimes you need soy sauce and sometimes you don't. Don't forget to grab the soy sauce here. We also ordered sweet and sour shrimp. The fried shrimp were disgusting. There was SO MUCH BATTER on each shrimp, so much that it didn't get cooked all the way. So there gooey uncooked batter inside the crispy fried outside. I picked most of it off as it was disgusting. So I'm still pretty hangry after eating this crap and would have loved my spring roll. I would give only one star but my husband said his generals Tso's tofu was ok. They also used a lot of styrofoam to top it off. There is other Chinese around, find them and avoid this hole in the wall. It's not good at all. read more

This place is solid. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Chinese place this good in the OBX. It's your standard Chinese American food but everything I got (Lo Mein, Mongolian Beef, and Crab Rangoons) was fresh, hot, and well seasoned. And the crab Rangoons were actually filled well which is a problem I've run into before at other places. I will definitely be going back and trying some other dishes. read more

I had eaten here twice the past two years and it was decent. It is not the same in 2016. I wouldn't feed this to my dog if I were angry with him. The most disgusting Chinese food ever. Served to me. Chunky slabs of fat littered my Pork in Garlic sauce. I wont even try to explain what the sauce tastes like because you wouldn't believe me and bile would be too kind. The veg Fried Rice was edible but unlike any fried rice Ive had. Yellow, no veggies except thick onion hunks, no egg or flavor The lo mein was also without taste. Horrid. I'm not sure if we'll order from here again. In years past, this place has served us well. It's cheap, it's good, it lasts us for days. Unfortunately, something went wrong somewhere this time. We ordered the Party Platter of Lo Mein & Sesame Chicken (1/2 white meat only, 1/2 whatever) and it only came out to $41. The food was easily over 5 pounds worth, and allegedly feeds five people for 2 or more days (if history is correct). The service was very nice in the restaurant and pretty fast. While we waited the 10-15 minutes for our order, several people came in for pick-up. There are tables that you can sit at to eat your food, but no one actually eats there. We brought the food back and started eating. No rice with the party platter, but we had a rice cooker and cooked some to go a long with it. The noodles were oily and tasted more like yakisoba than lo mein. The sesame chicken started of good, but towards the end of my plate, the pieces were very chewy and stringy. After working on a piece for literally several minutes, I gave up and spat the piece into a napkin. I don't know if these were the pieces of chicken that were leftover from an earlier day, or if the chicken was like 80 years old when it was killed, but it was not yummy. I placed an order for a group of 6 over the phone. The lady on the phone repeated the order and told me it would be 10 min. I showed up on time to pick up my order, only to drive home and find out that they had shorted me food. When I called to resolve this issue they were ready to just brush it off and told me that if I wanted my food, I had already paid for, I would have to drive all the way back and get it myself because they didn't have anyone to deliver it. I told them I would be down for my missing food and headed back out. When I got there, they hadn't even started the order, even though they knew they had shorted me and that I was headed back down. I would suggest that if you get food from this establishment, CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE (considering you might have to make the travel back in some traffic). Their food is OK. Passable, standard take-out Chinese fare; but they will deliver to your beach house rental! They have ads everywhere, but um, methinks they offset the ad-placement expenses by going very low-brow with the actual ad: it looks like a cell-phone pic, and shows a teenager at the counter answering the phone, wearing a T that says "Party's at my place" and behind him there is a glimpse into the kitchen where it looks like a kitchen fire has broken out of control. Seriously. Hey, I know that those commercial ad-placement deadlines can be difficult to meet, but geesh! Maybe the worst meal I've ever had. The only good thing I can say about this place is how fast the food was ready....We ordered Lo Mein and Sesame Chicken, the Lo Mein was COMPLETELY flavorless. I thought that was the worst part, except that our Sesame "Chicken" was pure breading, stuck together in clumps (and the flavor was STILL bad). We ate 2 bites and threw the rest out. Upon discovery of this obscure Outer Banks dining spot we were quite skeptical of the nature of the food there because of the lack of quality reviews of the restaurant. However, after ordering and then receiving our food we were quite surprised by the quality of the cuisine we were presented with. The noodles were moist, flavorful, and littered with shrimp. The vegetables had the necessary crunch and the sauce was juicy and present. It is quite a treasure when a low cost meal turns out to have both value and flavor. At a measly 6$ the lunch special was just that. One entree and your choice of rice and an egg roll came in the bag. The food itself was delicious for the price and the soundless styrofoam box held within it a treasure of noodles, shrimp, and rice. The only complaint is the rice was a tad dry, but the smells that wafted out of the box upon its opening were divine. The rice as a side left something to be desired, and it is my hope this issue gets resolved soon. This meal did do quite a number on me and left me feeling both wholesome and in an overall happy place. It was a comparable feeling to that of being hugged by a loved one. This restaurant hugs your stomach and wallet as it only cost 6$ for this entire experience. The authenticity of the restaurant and the food as well as the kitchen materials are all to be desired from a Chinese treasure located near the convenience of Food Lion and other surrounding shops. I enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to anyone seeking a low cost meal that packs quite the flavorful punch. We order the same thing; this time the food had no taste, not to mention the pork fried rice , the shrimp, egg roll. ....nasty. They added some red sauce to the dinner.
