It's refreshing to find Thai Cuisine in the Outer Banks area. So naturally, we had to stop by and try it out. Their menu offers a diverse selection of curries, and stir fried dishes. My husband ordered the Tom Yum Soup and I ordered the Panang Curry with chicken, which came with a side of rice. My husband liked his soup and he shared my Panang Curry with me, as the portion size was large! He loved the curry sauce. Everything was delicious! Hot and sour soup was different from any other ive ever had, lots of veggies and a unknown beef was a nice surprise. I have been eating at the Thai room for over 20 years and I think I'm finally over it. I ordered pad see eww with beef. I got maybe a quarter cup of beef in the order but what I did got was over a cup of carrots. I feel so ripped off and disrespected by this establishment. Another time I got this dish. It tasted like it had been reheated. I guess they figure there's an infinite supply of tourists that will eat at their restaurant and they just don't care how little they give you for the money you pay. I also think it's funny how you can wait for your food and they'll be really super friendly to some people and then other people they are just ignore and treat coldly . I'm so glad we came here. Panang curry was fantastic! I ordered Hot and that was really hot even for an Indian taste buds. Liked it! The decor is beautiful. And the guy who was serving us was super nice. The Panang curry paste was probably made at the restaurant. It definitely felt more homely. We stopped by for lunch and ordered several dishes. The Thai Room soup, laab, pad thai, and panang beef were all pretty good. Not great by any means, but good enough. In addition, the service was very good. So why only a 2* rating? I'll tell you why. My wife ordered egg drop soup and when it arrived it was a gelatinous, gloppy mess. Way too much cornstarch was added to thicken it. So, she politely asked the server to take it off the bill and he took it to the back. A few minutes later, a Thai woman (chef? owner? both?) angrily emerged from the kitchen stating very loudly, "Who dumps (adds) soy sauce before tasting!" She was not looking directly at us, but it was obvious who she was referring to, as she placed the bowl in the bus tub. It was very rude, NOT polite at all (seriously, who does that in front of a customer?!), and It was a big turn-off. For the record, my wife DID taste it first. She also added a couple ice cubes to try to thin it out a little, but it didn't work. Not sure what difference it made if she added soy sauce anyway; after all, it wasn't the taste but the consistency that was bad. Won't return to this place. Not worth the hassle over a $3.50 cup of soup. read more

[Coronavirus review] I ordered takeout, which was reasonably efficient and timely; mine was brought to me as I set on a bench outside. They did have a couple of tables set up for outdoor dining, but you'd have to be Johnny on the spot to snag one; the larger (and nicer) indoor dining room is currently off-limits, but sitting in a strip mall is better than nothing. They offer a vegetarian section, which they label as vegan to forestall any hidden fish sauce nonsense. I checked off the maximum spice level on my drunken noodles, and having seen pictures, asked for no broccoli. They delivered on both counts. It was a pretty serious burn; it might have dampened the overall flavor mix a little bit, but it would be hypocritical of me to fault them. Perhaps stepping down to merely "Thai hot" delivers a more balanced flavor. Still, the crisp snow peas were a highlight among the non-broccoli vegetables that remained. I was a bit miffed at having to pay to add tofu, and it seemed pre-fried and didn't quite take on the flavor of the sauce. However, the overall dish was steaming hot and a good portion size. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but to get legit fish-free Thai next to the beach was a win. read more

We split an order of chicken pad thai. Be sure and ask for containers if you are going to split and aren't staying somewhere with a kitchen. For the spicy level, we got HOT. The ambiance was nice with both traditional Thailand feel but also had the beach vibe. We ordered Egg drop soup,spring roll-vegetarian,Thai Basil fried rice-vegetable and chicken noodles. Everything was very good and they had 4 spicy dips on the side with various spice levels which we could add based on our choice. We normally are eating seafood and barbecue while staying in KDH, but once in a while we get take-out Asian or Indian. We remembered really liking our meal at Thai Room two years ago, so it seemed like a good idea to get take-out on a Friday night. I repeated the very good chicken Panang curry that I had last time. Ms T always likes Pad See Ewe and ordered with chicken. I also thought the Siamese Grilled chicken sounded so added on an order of that. Ms T wanted an egg roll so we each got one. We had a ton of great food. While she orders her dishes mild, I like the "hot" level in my Panang curry. I have not tried their "Thai hot" but the "hot" is a decent level. We ordered the Siamese Grilled Chicken medium. My curry was just as good as I remembered, a little sweet, rich and almost creamy. The Siamese chicken was delicious, with great spices. It was juicy and succulent. I will certainly order this again. It is a half chicken, but these birds are not the five pounders that you find in most supermarkets, so it is not huge. The egg rolls are mostly cabbage, but are fine. I like cabbage so that is not an issue. I kind of wished for fragrant Jasmine rice but it's not a big deal. I assume it is expensive to serve. Thai room seems to have a good following. We are here off-season and they are busy. read more

My family wanted to order from Thai and this place popped up. I tried to call 47 times, my daughter tried 28 times and finally made it through but got a voicemail that said order it online. I attempted to order online and it was not the easiest form to use to order food. I had a degree in computer science, so I can be picky on how it was setup. Finally after 30 minutes I placed my order and it said it would be ready at 7:15 PM EST. I arrive and see people dining in and out, a sign mentioned that they highly recommend wearing of a mask. However only part of the workers have them on. I told her my order and she said you will receive a text when it's completed, but they don't state that on the website. She said another 15-20 mins. I came back and she said they tried to call me about them being out of TOFU, I told her what I wanted and they were making it up quickly. I waited an an elderly man came into the place of business and stated he ordered and they asked online, he said do I look like I am up to the Internet par, he said I tried to call for over an hour and no answer. She stated we take our phones off the hook when it's over an hour for a wait. That to me is why I'm giving them 4 of 5 stars. That's bad business, you are popular and are getting the business, maybe mention that on your website to order online or something else. We finally received our food, everything was right and good. I got the Thai Fried Rice in which it was good. It was different than other ones that I'm used to getting. Theirs is a little sweeter in taste, spicy but not dry like I prefer it in Pittsburgh. Good Thai place only 1 block from the beach in kill devil hills. They have a great app for online ordering. We order our food then walked across the beach and took our food to go. they don't have much indoor seating, but they box it up nicely for a good picnic. Their lunch and dinner menus are slightly different but everything we tried we liked. I would recommend the satay sticks-2 beef, 2 pork and 2 chicken grilled sticks with a yummy peanut sauce. The beef salad was great, a little smaller than I expected but good flavor. We also got the panang curry which was great!! You are able to chose your spice level for the curry. We did medium but I was surprised how spicy that was. If you don't like spice I would recommend no spice at all. And if you like spice maybe medium. You choose!! Straight up best Thai food on the outer banks. The staff seemed to enjoy working there and memorized my name within two visits. Mediocre Mai tais for cheap as dirt and succulent pad tai. The general Tao chicken lacked the communist flair of Chinese restaurants and was so spicy and flavorful I wanted to slap my great aunt. They have an advertising page at the Outer Bank Visitors Guide. It look interesting and we decided to try them. After looking at the food pictures on Yelp, it is certainly a place to try. We start with Thai Stick. It is combo of different meats satay. It includes the chicken, Pork, and beef satay. It has a good marinated sauce. The sauce is very close to Malaysian satay in Thai style. Obviously it must be southern Thai influences with close to the Malaysia border. The satay is good. Our second dish is the fried soft shell crab. It is a daily special. The crab is big here at Outer Bank. The sweet chili sauce accompanied well. Our third dish is basil mussel. These mussel is sautéed with sweet sauce. I like it very much. Overall we have good experience. There is only one waitress, the service is a bit slow. read more

My husband and I went for dinner tonight and the spices were amazing. If you love spicy... I mean seriously get the Thai Hot. It will heat you up nicely. Ordered the Tom Kha. Mongolian Beef (hot spice with a spice tray to put our own heat in). Service was friendly and pretty quick for the amount of people in and out of there. The kids got their Chinese food, since it was on the menu, and the rest of us got something different. Might be called Thai Room, but their menu has no borders.
