Thus is not Thai food. There is a ton of sugar in dishes that don't normally have sugar like chicken snow pea pods....and Thai Pad. Yuck. Went to the Thai Room today. It was outstanding delicious and I must say I lost my significant other and he worked there. His name was Michael Salopek. They always called him Mr. Mike throughout his illness. They were always here for us dropping off Thai cuisine every Sunday.! I have been here twice now. The food is good, but the menu specifies mild, medium, or hot. Each time I have ordered hot, been questioned by the staff and reiterated that yes I want hot and confirmed multiple times. Both times I was served medium, admitted by the waitstaff, they refused to serve hot to me even though I assured them I would pay and not send it back. Where else would you expect to order something and then have the restaurant knowingly and purposely serve you the wrong item and charge you for it? After seeing the great reviews we had to check this place out. I'm not sure who the heck is writing these glowing reviews but I have to imagine they've never had a decent Thai meal. Basil chicken had little pieces of chicken and hardly any. The Massaman curry was bland and the beef was salty. We had a vodka and club which was served in a 8 ounce grandma style glass with 90% ice and maybe a shot of vodka. Ripoff. This place is maybe a 4 out of 10 on a good day. A few negatives: ~Their Facebook page said they had just started delivery, but we called and called and got a busy signal for almost a half hour. This is my absolute favorite restaurant on the beach and my favorite Thai restaurant in NC. I cannot recommend this place enough. I've been coming here for a few years now and I constantly tell everyone to go here if you're at the beach. The food is consistently amazing, packed with flavor, and I only leave wanting to come back. The ginger and basil chicken were delicious, light, spicy, and packed with veggies. We needed a break from bread and buns during our Outer banks beach vacation so we sought out Thai Room Restaurant since we wanted some rice. We were not disappointed! We got the General Tao chicken (tasted more like sweet and sour chicken, but still quite good!), the stir-fried basil beef dish (really good!). and the fish fillet (mild spice, as we requested, and another winner!). We also got the egg drop soup (you can taste the white pepper but it's not overpowering). This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had ANYWHERE. If I could give zero stars I would. We waited 20 minutes for a table (not a problem) but then got seated and waited another 20 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us. While we waited at the table we had to stare at the wall, the table, and the ceiling all while sitting there parched bc nobody even thought to offer water at the very least (even though the host and I made eye contact and I tried to call her over multiple times). One of the food runners tried to bring us someone else's food and when we told her we haven't ordered and wanted to see our server she just said oh then walked away. People who were seated after us received water and were able to place orders before our server even greeted us. Please save yourself the trouble it seems if you're not there right when they open or unless it's absolutely dead you won't be able to get any type of service or a chance for food. read more

Longest wait in my life for dinner Horrible experience, waited two hours after placing an order for dinner for a group of six.. When questioned to the wait staff, we were told they're working on our dinner. There were other parties that came in after us, and they had their food and left before we even got our entrées. We asked to talk to the manager on duty, it took him 10 minutes to come out and see us, and then he said oh your food is now done after two hours. We did not order anything out of the ordinary . It all came off of their menu. I will not go back there again, I don't even know how the food was, but if that's the service that they are going to give, it's not worth it for me. read more

The best General Tao's chicken I've ever had. I loved having the option to "spice" it up, chose Thai hot, and was not disappointed. I ordered online late on the Sunday night of the Memorial Day weekend and while it took longer than their published wait/lead time, I didn't feel like it was unreasonable for the number of people already waiting for carry out and a full dining room. I'm sad to say I wasn't a fan. While on vacation I decided to get some Thai while my friends ate their seafood. I saw the reviews and found Thai Room was in walking distance from the house! I ordered Pad Thai medium spicy, my normal at Thai joints, and headed out. Maybe I hit them on a bad night, but when they handed me my food in one of those small Chinese food boxes my heart sank. For the price I paid I was hoping for something a bit more substantial.... I walked home and opened up the box to notice the noodles were over cooked and falling apart (shoulda taken a pic). Not the worst thing ever, but makes eating with chopsticks annoying because it gets gummy. Taste wise I'd give it a C. Not the best I had ever had, but not the worst. Maybe I will give them another shot next time in town? The convenience is great! Right off the beach with a parking lot. If improved I will happily change up my rating. COVID note: staff we're wearing masks and had items away from customers for pick up. I didn't really see into the dining area to see how spacing was, but nothing stood out as unsanitary. read more

I'm upset my husband and I are just now finding this place after living here since last August. Everything we got tonight was phenomenal. The beef strips appetizer's flavor was incredible. Great food!!! One of the few authentic Asian cuisine spots in the area. Customer service was on par, they even gave us a complimentary baked Alaska which was a pleasant unexpected surprise. COVID related guidelines were followed to the T, so I definitely felt safe and accommodated for. The Khao Soi special was AMAZING, will be dreaming of that meal for days to come. It had a Thai coconut curry soup base with flat noodles and short ribs. Completely mouthwatering and delicious! Was extremely surprised to find Thai food in obx- let alone Thai food that is this good!! We were lucky enough to have an awesome corner booth in the restaurant, and we tried a few dishes. The skewers are delish- super flavorful and tender. The seafood stew was absolutely amazing, the seafood was all cooked perfectly. The whole fried fish was super flavorful and the sauce on it was delicious. Don't skip the pas thai- one of my favorite dishes ever and they do it RIGHT here!! We tried a bunch of drinks too- they have Thai beer which is light and refreshing, and they make a mean Mai Thai. The lemongrass mojito was also wonderful. For dessert- we had the house made coconut sticky rice with mango sorbet and fresh mango and oh my lord it was AMAZING- and that's coming from someone who really dislikes coconut. Dropped by with a party of five for some tasty Thai and was pleasantly surprised with fresh, tasty food! Loved the spice (medium = 8 out of 10). Dakota was our server and was delightful. Food came out super hot after @10 minutes. We were there at 2:00 pm and missed the lunch rush. The dinning area has a good vibe - all decked out with private eating areas with linen wrapped window areas. Recommend the Wonton soup and Crab Rangoon. Green curry was soooo good. Thai Room is a family favorite. My in-laws used to come here in the early 2000s when they were residents, so it was a no brainer to come back for dinner when we recently visited. The food is delicious and the staff know how to provide hospitality, not just service. Our group of 4 adults and 2 children were seated at one of the center tables. The children were given kids cups, and their food was brought first (as suggested by our server). I chose the soft-shell crab appetizer, the laab, and the green papaya salad. My husband got the special crab-fried rice. We ordered the combination sweet & sour chicken (comes with fried rice and vegetarian egg roll) with the sauce on the side for my sons to split. The kids loved their meal, even eating the veggies. My soft shell crab was slightly over done, but the sauce was tasty. The papaya salad had nice crunch and kick. The laab was flavorful with nice bits of rice to slightly thicken the sauce. The fried rice was really good too - not too greasy with good size pieces of crab. The owner is Thai and spends half the year in Thailand while his son runs the restaurant the other half of the year. They've got a store with Thai goods in the back. There is plenty of Thai decor, including more than one picture of the King. read more

Why, oh why did we wait five years before trying this place? We moved to the Outer Banks back in 2014, but we finally tried this restaurant for the first time a couple months ago. And since that first fateful visit, we've been back at least once a week. Every time we eat here, the service is fantastic. The wait staff is friendly, and after a time or two, will know what you like! They are also very accommodating with regard to altering veggie choices in their meals, or more egg in the fried rice, that sort of thing. And their prices are some of the most reasonable on the beach. And bonus: they're open in the off season. I will recommend this place to everyone! Be aware that the lunch menu is more limited than the dinner menu. For the full Thai experience, go for dinner. read more

Very poor customer service. Food was not stored in proper containers; they gave us all the food in cheap white Chinese food rice paper containers instead of plastic ones, and the sauces leaked from the bottom and almost fell apart from all the oil and sauce disintegrating the paper on the bottom of containers. Made a big mess everywhere inside the bag and outside. No napkins or utensils. I asked for medium spice (which I did last year) and it was not medium. Asked for spice on the side for my mother on her tofu with Basil and they didn't do that either. Food was cheap Chinese food quality with a huge "Thai food" price tag. The food was much better last year when we came; maybe they have new cooks. Very, very highly disappointed. Also, when they get busy, they just take the phone off the hook. Who does that? We visited this place last night and really liked the food. It's great for vegetarians- we ordered veg dumplings, spring rolls, kids lo mein, green curry and ginger curry. They all tasted amazing and cooked to perfection. Wide variety of veggies. They were busy but they set up a table outside for us with an umbrella so our kids didn't get wet.
