This place is the best! I love everything about this restaurant. The red curry is a must. My sister in law has been ordering the cashew chicken since the late 80's and can't get enough. When my husband is very hungry he gets the King and I which is huge and tasty. My daughter who has high standards likes the shrimp fried rice and it's pretty amazing. My son likes spice and gets the green beef curry. I like to start with the Thai egg rolls. These are fresh made here - not frozen. The staff here is so nice. The drinks are generous with the alcohol too. My favorite is the Mai Tai. read more

A random trip to this restaurant turned out to be one of the high lights of our trip to the outer banks! The food is so authentic and the atmosphere is simple but so welcoming. Everything we ate was great. The Moo-shu pork was literally the best my mom and I EVER had!! We fought over the leftovers. The drunken noodles and red curry were also very good. I wasn't a fan of the spring roll because it was peppery which just seemed odd. Also, our waitress was amazing! She was from the Philippines and had been here two years and was so friendly and trying to get out baby to smile. Love this place!!! read more

Great experience and we noticed lots of repeat customers. Staff was friendly. Drinks were tasty - we had lemongrass mojito and the cherry blossom. We ate the pad Thai, sweet & sour shrimp, tofu mixed vegetables and finished with mango sticky rice. Go early or plan take out-- they get busy and there will be a wait. Super friedly services, 4 thumbs up! What a crew! 1 star off for the food. Ordered the "Thai fresh eggroll" or something similar. It was essentially shredded cabbage with shrimp wrapped in standard FLOUR TORTILLA, drizzled with uninspiring sweetened soy sauce. Needless to say, it failed miserably. When was the last time you see Thai cuisine with flour tortilla? Not sure if the restaurant owner tasted it, but please remove this from your menu... I decided to treat myself to takeout lunch. I placed an order online for pickup at 12:15. I received a text at 11:45 that my order was ready. I expressed my concern that it was done so early and got an "okay." Needless to say, it was cold, chewy and basically disgusting. Ok so based on some of these reviews people sometimes have a specific expectation...perhaps it isnt entirely authentic (but who knows thailand is a large country). But, this place is really great. We have had thai food all over the country and while it does have a bit of a chinese flavor, amazing food. One of the best thai places we have been to. Great flavor, and good spice. Being vegan, we sometimes are wary bc thai places love to add fish sauce, so a taste of chinese is ok for us. The drinks are better than you usually get at an asian place. This is our 2nd visit in the last few years, and both times it stood out as really great food. This time we got the drunken noodles with veggies...fresh and deliciously flavored. We also ordered fried tofu basil which was also amazing flavor. Everything was very fresh overall. Ive had dishes at other places that didnt use fresh basil in their cooking. These guys did. I dont know how people are saying it doesnt have flavor. For dessert, mango and sticky rice. Not sure what makes the rice blue but its amazing. The gal in the back made it up special for us, so it took a little bit but was worth the wait. Really yummy not too sweet. Dont order the veggie spring rolls. They seem frozen, not very fresh. the last time we came, they were extremely busy and we waited a very long time, but very friendly and attentive during the wait. the food was worth it. make sure youre not in a hurry. this time, everything came very quickly and was amazing again. read more

We happened on this eatery, while vacationing. It's deceptively large, looking almost tiny from the street. The interior is nicely appointed, and everything cleaned, from the tables, to the silverware, to the glassware. We found service to be somewhat slow, as guests came in to dine. And the service was not provided by one person, but by several who happen to be going by the table. That may seem nice, but it lends a sense of discontinuity to the meal. As for the food, the pad thai noodles we're delicious, but they lacked a certain depth. Most pad thao is made with a generous helping of Thai spices, and seasoning that includes soy sauce. The pad thai here, were plain except for the chili spice that was added. The soft shell crab was ordinary, at best. And the char grilled squid did not appear to be chargrilled, as much as it did plain steamed. The strawberry daiquiri appeared to be mostly syrup and mix, because the bartender used a very light touch on whatever spirits we're supposed to have been in the drink. So when we drove onto the Outer Banks after christmas, the last thing we thought to find was 12 inches of snow. And really good Thai food. Having driven from upstate NY that day, we just wanted a tasty, interesting meal to kick the driving blahs to the curb. Thai Room didn't disappoint. Some highlights: calamari that was breaded and served like tenders, yet preserving the flavor profile of squid, seared duck in a light brown sauce that was neither fatty nor greasy, and a pad thai on par with great pad thai found at your local fav Thai spot. Worth checking, if you're in the mood for good Thai food and great service. Decor however is kitsch extreme, so leave the taste police in the car. read more

We dined here for dinner. The service was very good and the staff were attentive. The food was hit or miss though. We ordered 5 dishes to share and two were inedible. The chicken satay was well spiced and tasted good. The tom yum goong soup (thai lemongrass soup with shrimp) was average. The papaya salad that was on special and the thai curry with chicken were yummy. The pad thai and spring rolls were inedible. It seemed as if the rolls were left too long in the deep fryer and were dripping with oil--all I could taste was the oil. The pad thai was sad--we have had authentic pad thai in Bangkok on our travels there and could not really eat what was served tonight. This has been our only disappointing meal in the Outer Banks. The Thai Room is one of our favorites on the beach! The food is so good and the family atmosphere makes it even better. We always get to go food but we started ordering there and having a beer because hanging out with Pai is one of the best parts of this restaurant! She is so sweet and funny and always helps my husband pick out which curry to get. We recommend this to everyone, even if you don't like Thai food yet, just ask for Pai, she will help you figure out what you would like :) read more

Great food and service! It shouldn't matter that it was also inexpensive, but who doesn't like a bargain? Had dinner here tonight and had to leave a review. The staff was friendly and very helpful with my menu questions. I travel with a vegan and finding food for her isn't always easy. Thai Room had lots of options and the staff was knowledgeable about vegan restrictions. I, the omnivore had the Perfect Ginger with shrimp. It was perfect. The vegan had pad thai with roasted tofu, which was also delicious. The portions were generous, so we also have leftovers for lunch. Price was good, too. We even got dessert and we almost never get dessert. Fried bananas with a sorbet. I would have liked ice cream but loved the vegan substitute, too. Their bar seems to have lots of yummy cocktails but I wasn't drinking. Mai Tais next time! They deliver, so a nice option if you prefer. read more

We have been living local for 12 years and only just discovered the Thai Room last December. We have been there 7 or 8 times in the 3 months since if that tells you how amazing it is. My favorite is the Phad Thai or Drunken Noodles but its all delicious. Order according to your spiciness tolerance; but err on the side of caution, it is spicy. You can go lower than you think and ask for spicy on the side so you can add more if needed. You can taste the freshness and flavor in each bite....so GOOD!!! read more

I love the ambiance and decorations. It was very pretty, clean and great. We went during 4th of July, and the service was slow to my liking; however, the shrimp with lobster sauce I had was delicious and worth the wait. We happened upon Thai Room totally accidentally. It was packed at 8:30 on a Thurs night, which in itself says it has great food. The food takes some time to come out, but well worth it. Totally authentic food. We got the Thai sticks (satay), drunken noodles and Thai basil. Everything was absolutely delicious. Having exhausted my list of restaurants to try, my boyfriend and I headed over to the Thai Room for dinner. For the area, the prices were great and service was friendly. The food however fell a little short. First, the menu was limited in actual thai dishes, as many were chinese as a way to appease unadventurous eaters, I suppose. We ordered items we often get at other thai restaurants, and found each one to be slightly odd in its own way, though none of it bad. The tom ka gai soup didn't have enough coconut milk and the flavor was off. The fresh thai spring roll that we assumed would be a rice paper roll turned out to be a thai version of mu shu pancakes. The masaman curry was best, although we only got one piece of potato along with the meat. If I had limited experience with thai cuisine, I could see myself being happy with my meal. When I dine on Thai food from the Thai Room, I find it hard to explore the menu. I just love some of their dishes and have trouble not repeating the same order. My ideal meal is: 1. Fresh Steamed Spring Rolls - Yummy, with a touch of crab meat and sweet plum sauce on the side. 2. Satay - usually the pork (also have beef, chicken & mixed grill). LOVE the peanut sauce. Had a friend with shellfish allergy and a couple vegetarians and they had plenty of options and were willing to make it work. Good price. It certainly wasn't the most 'authentic' but it was an excellent mix of east coast Chinese and Thai. General Gao's was topped with fresh scallions and shredded carrots.
