A few years ago I was picking up some shoes at Dardano's and took a chance at Thai Pot next door. Boy was I surprised. Even though my first dish was too hot and made my eyes water, I couldn't stop eating it. It was delicious. This place has been great for years. We get Thai in every city we visit, but we always come home to Thai Pot Cafe. The service is always top notch and the food always feels so authentic. I've had the same servers for years, they know me by name, they remember my preferences, especially because I like everything so spicey. The patio is small but quaint, and it's highly in demand, so be prepared to wait for this area. I love the red curry with Tofu, but be careful of the hot chili powder. Best Thai in Denver. A small group of us from the office stopped in here for lunch the other day, luckily it was a nice afternoon and the 7 of us were able to take up both of the outdoor tables as this is a very small location. Though there was a larger group of us, the service was good. I was pleased with the selection of dishes and liked that each person was able to choose the spice level for their dish. I ordered my Tom Ka at level 3, though it was not as spicy as I would have expected, it was delicious! I also ordered a Thai spring roll. The portion was huge -- I could have split my order of one spring roll with someone else. The peanut sauce had just the right amount of spice. The lunch specials that some in our party ordered were not much smaller than the dinner portions and included a choice of soup or order of wontons, a great deal price-wise. This is definitely going to stay on my list of places to swing through for lunch! read more

Then we decided to eat outside as there were four available tables .Well this is where everything went very wrong. The server's said if we choose to order a to go they will not serve us on the patio even though we could sit there- what? Then they brought half of the food on china the rest in to go boxes- but no to water or forks?? Next my husband started to choke/ I ran inside to ask for water and they said no service due to the to go order -no even though I told them my husband was chocking!!! I'm the past I have been happy with this place but not tonight. The prices have all increased 20-30%. Not a deal-breaker but they are higher than competing Thai restaurants. The problem tonight was the slow kitchen. Ordered immediately after sitting down. After waiting about 35 minutes, the server came by and apologized and said the food would be right out. 15-20 minutes later, still nothing. We told her we were running out of time. Then she finally leveled with us and said that the kitchen was backed up with online orders, and asked if we would like her to tell the kitchen to make our dishes next. Wish the server had been honest about this up front. Would have saved us a lot of time. Given that we had already been waiting nearly an hour, we decided to leave. We've always enjoyed this place! We came in and were seated right away. I love the crab wontons from here. I think the sauce is made in house and is always delicious! The pad Thai with chicken is my favorite Thai dish and they always make it taste better than the rest. Our server was friendly and attentive. Had dinner with hubby on Friday evening of Dec 19 2008. Hmmm, when we arrived, we were greeted by a lady who served us promptly. At that time of 17:45hrs we were the only customer at this eatery. We placed our order of: * Chicken Satay * Seafood Combination of Tom Yum Soup * Kang Massaman Chicken Curry * Hot Coffee for hubs and Jasmine Tea for me * Dessert - Mango Rice Pudding Food came fast. When I requested both the Soup and Curry to be EXTRA SPICY aka THAI SPICY... Hmmm, it falls short too.. aint Spicy for our taste bud. But Hubs like the flavor from the Curry. All in all, the food is OK. The Chicken satay lacks some flavor. The Tom Yum Soup was OK ~ is NOT SPICY as I requested. Does NOT make me SWEAT at all... The mango rice pudding was indeed a disappointment. So all in all Thai Pot Cafe you can do better. I finally ventured in here. The seating area is small but cozy. It may get crowded in here sometimes and im guessing there could be a wait on some nights. But in my opinion the wait would be worth it. Thai Style egg rolls were just how i like em. Hot and Crispy on the outside and the vegetables were fresh on the inside. I normally order Pad Thai w Chicken but i went with the Pan-Fried Noodles w Chicken. I didnt get them spicy. But the waiter said they can make it as hot as you want. And the hottest someone ever ordered was 83 which would be awesome to see someone stomach that. They dont have a actual soda fountain but offer free refills. They also have Sake and Hot Tea. And my meal actually came out after i was done with my appetizer. Which is a huge plus. Another plus they dont mind if you order one entree and share it with your significant other as some other places frown upon that. And from the guy who came in and requested half a order they actually said they would work it out instead of making him buy a whole nother order of fish cakes. This place must have been blessed by the strip mall gods (I'm sure those exist) in order to garner as much attention as it has... Or maybe it can just thank Yelp. Regardless, it served as the perfect meeting point for two Pad Thai-craving girls and we headed here for dinner on a weekday night. The staff was immediately welcoming and allowed me to snag a table while I was waiting for my friend to arrive. We split a spring roll while sipping on green tea until our main dishes came. It definitely ranked among some of my favorite pad thai and my favorite part was probably choosing just how hot I wanted it to be. Overall, I had a thai-riffic experience. I love this place. Now, I can't tell you how authentic it is, I did not grow up there, have never been there, and can barely find Thailand on a globe. (Find Guatamala, leave your finger on the globe, then spin it about half way around. See it? No, that's India, a whole different kind of spicy. To the right just a bit. This place serves the best Thai food I have had since leaving California (oh sweet motherland of ethnic food options). My husband and I took a friend who was new to Thai food. I suggested he try the Pad See Ewe because that is one of my favorites. Well, I love the curries more but he didn't seem interested in that. My husband and our friend Tom both ordered their noodles extra spicy. They were not disappointed. My husband had Pad Thai as usual and he loved it. It was not as greasy as some of the other places in town. The Pad See Ewe was delicious and just what I was looking for. Tom really enjoyed his too, and he can be a bit discriminating. He had to eat very slowly though because it was so hot. I ordered a bowl of Thom Ka as an appetizer. Tom and my husband were eyeing my soup and convinced me to let them try it. They loved it. They both wished they had ordered that instead of splitting the Satay appetizer. Too bad, there is always next time. This is my new favorite Thai restaurant in town. Came back the other day and ordered the Pad Woon Sen. Holy crap. The noodles were so flavorful, the spice was just the right amount of heat without being too overbearing, and the veggies were fresh. I've never had this dish before and am glad to have finally tried it-I will have a new favorite Thai dish! My co-worker ordered the Pad Thai Woon Sen and prior to this visit the only place I had known that served this was Tommy's Thai. I always prefer the bean thread noodles over the regular rice ones they use for the pad thai dishes, because it has a much lighter taste. I was lucky she didn't want her leftovers and I was happy to take them off her hands. I'm excited to try more dishes off their menu. It's taken me a while to visit this place. When your Asian friends speak wholeheartedly of an Asian food restaurant, you pay attention. Sometimes you might even get unsolicited menu ordering advice because your phone registers that you're online to chat. That's besides the point, though. I pass this strip mall often and never realized this place existed here. It's tucked away near Dardano's. I was able to seat myself at one of the higher tables. The service is very friendly here and honest. By honest, I mean the main waiter honestly discloses when he's unfamiliar with menu items and checks with the cook before answering. I appreciate that. My eyes immediately fell upon the Thai Springs rolls which I promptly ordered. You get four spring rolls with accompanying sauce for $3.95. Good food and cheap - a bonus. The sweet and spicy sauce with crushed peanuts was so good, I drank the remainder. My main entree ended up being the Thai Pot Special. I was drawn to the featured ginger curry paste. It came at a heat level of 4 and you have many varying levels of spiciness to choose from. The heat plus the savory spiciness of the ginger were clear winners. Adding the rice seemed to draw more of the inherent sweetness from the ginger curry. The chicken and veggies were perfect. I can't stand restaurants where eating vegetables is jaw-numbing work. The waiter suggested I save room for dessert which I did. Mango with sticky rice seems to be the norm at most Thai restaurants, so I leapt for the thai custard and black rice pudding. The custard didn't appear like anything special, but I'm not a custard guy. The black rice pudding with coconut sauce, though, was fantastic. Right up my alley. There are some good restaurants in this area of South Colorado Ave. I do recommend eating here if you're looking for good Thai food. read more

Thanks, fellow Yelpers, for directing me to Thai Pot Cafe! I won't lie, however, I pulled up to Thai Pot and just peeking in the window I had a moment of doubt. The restaurant is tiny and pretty bare bones. However, it is clean and the staff is very welcoming. I met my mom for dinner and we ordered soup and two entrees. When the food arrived, we realized that we had been a bit generous with our order and in the future I'd stick to just one entree and a soup for two people. That said - our Tom Kah soup was delicious and the Pad-Se-Ewe dish was so yummy. We also ordered the Cashew Stir Fry with tofu and it hit a home run. We sat in the Thai Pot Cafe for a few hours chatting and the staff was very attentive to keep bringing us water. A good number of people came in and out while we were there - some to eat in and some for pick up. I even overheard a couple who came in and said they aren't familiar with Thai food but heard such good things they had to come in. We left before they did - but I'm suspecting that they were happy! Overdue update for sure. I have grown to love Thai Pot. My favorite dish is the pad woon sen (silver noodles) with tofu and 4 hot. The seasoning is perfect and compliments the veggies very well. The noodles are so soft and delicate, they almost melt in your mouth. I have also grown very fond of the tom kha (hot and sour coconut soup) with seafood. The soup is a bit overpriced but worth every cent. What makes it pricey is when you start adding seafood, but they don't skimp. I did overhear one of the employees telling another patron that rent has recently gone up, hence the price increase, which I don't mind. I like to support this establishment. The service is also great and helpful. I only ever get take out, but they treat me very well while I'm waiting. read more

Whenever I crave good Thai food, I come to this place. It's a small restaurant with only a couple of tables and the staff has always been friendly, I also often get food for carry out and I order food there for parties as well. Also the owner's wife is Thai and cooks the food which is great! My favorite childhood dish (I'm half Thai) is kao niu moo ping (sticky rice with grilled pork on a stick) and even though the pork is not on the menu, they make it for me which I greatly appreciate! I also love their green papaya salad and kao pat (fried rice) which are authentic. When my Mum (a proud Bangkok native) came to Denver to visit, she was very happy with the place (which is a tall order since my mum is extremely picky when it comes to "proper" Thai food). So definitely go there and give it a try, it's not too americanized yet and has authentic Thai dishes to offer (minus those cheese wantons which are not Thai). read more

On a return visit we tried the appetizer sampler platter. The price is great; the variety is excellent; the four sauces were all very good. But the appetizers are quite ordinary, although the beef and chicken satay qualified as good. I'll avoid any of the fried appetizers from now on. The tom kha soup, though -- I will always order that. Our experience here has been all over the place. Let me explain... First, let me say that this place has some of the best fried rice and curry in town. That's why we keep coming back. But we have had a few very bad experiences here. Once we ordered pad see ew, a noodle dish for takeout. Imagine our surprise when we open the box and find the entire dish of 'noodle' in tiny, macerated bits. Instead of the nice, wide, fat noodles, it looked like the cook used only the broken noodle bits from the bottom of the box and then stir fried them into a vigorous mush. Come on, Thai Pot Cafe, you would have never served this on a plate if we ate in. The other bad experience came from eating in. We ordered a curry with a spice level of 1 and a fried rice with a spice level of 2, for a little kick. When the food came out, the rice was next to bland while the curry was SPICY... we couldn't even eat very much. We mentioned it to the nice waiter who took our dish back to the kitchen. He then ensued in a heated argument with the Tui, the head cook Thai lady (who sometimes works the counter and serves). She was not pleased that we thought it was too spicy. She subsequently sent the poor waiter out again with the message that "This IS Thai spicy 1." When we mentioned that it was way spicier than our fried rice which was suppose to be a 2, she sent him out again with some BS answer that curry was suppose to be spicier than rice. Ok, ok, maybe this is all fact, Thai fact that I'm unaware of, but what a way to put up a fuss, Mrs. Head Cook Lady. By the 3rd back and forth (poor waiter), with him apologizing for the lady's attitude, our lunch was quite ruined. I'm sorry, but most establishments are more than happy to recook your dish if you didn't like it, and maybe tack on a suggestion to order differently next time. No such polite service here. She was unwilling to accept the fact that her customers thought the dish was a little to spicy unwilling to do anything about it other than blame us. Finally, he talked her into offering to recook the dish after another argument, but by then we were done with the experience, and just asked to return the dish. When the poor waiter reported that to the lady, she was ANGRY. We could hear her yelling/ scolding the waiter in broken English from the kitchen. Terrible. This whole thing gets worse when our bill comes. We were charged for the dish we barely ate out of. I'm not kidding you. We took one look at the waiter and and he instantly apologized again and took it upon himself to take the dish off the bill, without consulting the lady. Poor guy, I don't know how the rest of the day went for him, but we tipped him well and left feeling all kinds of violated. With that said, we only order takeout now, at the spice level of 0, just to avoid conflict. And we peek into the takeout box before we go... although I rue the day I find my takeout food in a mushy mess... what am I going to do? Complain and cause trouble again? I'm glad there are authentic Thai people cooking/ running this place, but this is America, a smile and understanding customer service takes your really far. Is this asking too much... no mushy food, no yelling at the waiter within earshot of your customers? Overall: The food is really quite good which is why we still venture here. But 2 stars for the abysmal experience. Don't be unhappy about your food... Tui might come out and kick your ass, curry style. read more

This was obviously retribution for betraying delicious Pattaya Thai. In a viciously hungry restaurant run with my friend we turned into the first Thai restaurant we spotted. This happened to be the the tiny hole in the wall which is the Thai Pot Cafe. The interior of Thai Pot is a little sad. It looks like a tiny former check-cashing store or something. The walls have pictures and there are tables and service. Howver, it's obviously a business space more suited for fast-food type places like Chipotle or Starbucks. Our server was attentive and sweetly inarticulate in English, so I'm assuming our food was authentic Thai. The food. So the food was okay. The pad thai was the most greasy I've had to date and that dampened the flavor. Also, the spring rolls were incredibly oil-drenched, beyond what is expected of anything fried. We were the only patrons and I felt a little bad because it seemed like they were really trying. This is honestly a place I probably would not frequent again but wish I could. read more

We took the whole family - all 8 of us - for dinner here. I felt a little bad- they quickly made room for us, but it is definitely a fabulous little hole in the wall meant for smaller groups - like 4! But the people were very friendly, helpful and fast!! Most of the table went with Pad Thai - no one really wanted to do family style like the yelp folks did - so there was not a lot of tasting to be had! Bummer! I went with M2 - eggplant with veggies and an amazing sauce! Hubby took my rice and dumped it in my sauce and enjoyed it quite a bit! The thai hot level of heat has a pretty good kick to me. I was a little worried by the previous reviewers. I went with 4 for my dish and had a bit of a runny nose but a glorious taste and amount of heat was perfect for me! They also have a great happy hour - 5-9pm - domestic beers for a buck, non-domestics for a buck fifty! Mmmm! And to top it off- even with 8 people they kept my water glass full the whole time!! I was on a road trip through Denver and looking for some good, cheap Thai, and I picked this place based on its Yelp reviews. The decor is very strip-mall, yes, but that didn't deter me (one of my favorite Pho places, Viet House, is extremely strip-mall). My benchmark dish is always the Pad See-Ew, but my boyfriend got the Pad Thai so we could get a more traditional benchmark, too. We shared the Tom Yum soup. The entrees themselves were very reasonably priced ($7.95 for a noodle dish with chicken or beef), and the soup (a GIANT bowl) was $6.95 (Tom Kha was $7.95). I kind of wished they had individual cup portions, but ah well, everyone loves leftovers, right? The soup was excellent, and I definitely felt I was getting my money's worth given the size. However, the soup, much like the entrees, had a different flavor than I'm used to. The soup was a little less lemongrassy and a little more fish-saucy than usual, and the entrees were a little less sweet than usual. The noodles in both entrees also seemed to be chopped up (versus long and intact). Still, it was all good. The service was excellent, probably helped by the fact that we were one of two parties in the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday. The owner was extremely attentive and always jumped at the chance to help us with something, and his wife was very friendly as well. Overall, I have to rate it a 4 because the food wasn't the best Thai I've had, but it was clean, good, and friendly. Halfway through my first plate of drunken noodles I declared this place the best Thai in Denver. My carb-phobic friend had the Thai Pot special whose sauce was so delicious that he ate every grain of rice. Unlike U.S. Thai, which seems to offer nothing between zero spiciness and the kind of heat that blows out your brains, Thai Pot offers an "American spicy" scale of 1-4 in addition to its scale of Thai heat. On the American scale, two challenged me slightly and triggered a smidgen of sweat at the temples, but I was definitely able to enjoy the flavor of the food. A hole in the wall little jewel in the strip mall on Colorado Blvd along the same row as Royal India, Brazillian Jujitsu and some hair salon etc. A place hidden by the shadow of Noodles & Company on the corner of Florida and Colorado. However do step in that little narrow door and walk bravely in even though it may seem a little empty. Thai Pot Cafe is owned by 2 guys, backed by the sweet soft spoken Thai ladies in the back that whip up the good food. Choose dishes from their menu of items ranging from curries, rice/ fried rice, soups, salads, and noodles, then pick a spicyness of 1 to 5 (or 10 for thai spicy death!) to challenge yourself. I have been there many times on many occassions, the staff are helpful and very nice, and most of the food is as good as it gets in Bangkok, Thailand. An inexpensive place to try other cuisines, and explore your palate's tolerance for spice and heat! I give it a 4 star because the quality of the food at that price and the quick service are great. I love Thai Pot. It's the closest to authentic Thai food I've found in Denver. I love Drunken Noodles (pad kee mao), but most places I've been to don't use ho fun noodles like the recipe calls for. Maybe because they only last 2 days before going bad - I don't know. But if you crave those thick, smooshy rice noodles like I do, then search no further. It's location is deceiving. It's in a little strip mall across from the Nordstom Rack. It looks like any other cafe, but it hold the most delicious Thai dishes in town. We were a party of eleven on a Monday night. Early that afternoon we made a 6:00 reservation. Knew it was a small place and didn't want to tie up their entire restaurant at a later primetime seating. The reservation also gave them a heads up to expect a large party and to staff accordingly. We were told that if we were even 5 minutes late the reservation would be cancelled. Fair enough. We are not those type of diners but understood their concern. About 4:30 we received a call reconfirming our reservation. In case we had forgotten? In case we changed our mind an hour and a half before the reservation? Maybe they get a lot of large party no-shows. Little did I know, it was indicative of how they viewed their customers. Each of the nine adults ordered sake or beer. We also ordered two pot stickers (one steamed, one fried), a large Tom Kha, and a couple of other appetizers. All eleven diners ordered their own respective entrees so the total bill was going to be sizable. The pot stickers came and we passed them around. The steamed order was still ice cold in the middle. Brought this to our server's attention and she said she'd take care of it. The diners who had the cold pot stickers just pushed the remaining bite aside on their appetizer plate. Forget the fact that we were hoping the pot stickers were precooked and we hadn't just eaten a bite of raw pork. Pretty soon the server returns with half an order (3 dumplings)! When we questioned why they didn't replace the full order she said "well you ate half an order". Seriously? Uhhh, everyone had taken a bite out of their dumpling before realizing the order was cold and she could clearly see the uneaten pieces on the app plates. We weren't having any of her nonsense and called her on it. She returned with a full order. The meals came out and everyone was generally pleased with their entree. Well, except me. I didn't get mine for about ten minutes after the first diner received theirs. When it finally arrived the Drunken Noodle was tasty. That wasn't a typo. I found one noodle in the entire dish. Hell, I even put my reading glasses on to make sure. Run out of wide, rice noodles, did ya'? Forget to cook them and hope the diner wouldn't notice? Even if I hadn't had this before (and I have many times), don't you think the entree's name would give away the fact that the main ingredient was AWOL? Called the server over and she said there were noodles in there. Really? Invisible noodles? Everyone had pretty much finished their dinner at this point. Chalked it up to a restaurant whose management is clueless about what is coming out of the kitchen. As anyone in the restaurant business can attest, mistakes happen. The key to honest customer service is to acknowledge the mistake and try to rectify it. And, no, I don't think a comp is always the best answer. I'd rather hear, "sorry, we messed up your order. Can we cook it again or would you prefer something else, etc.". But a flat out, denial of a problem or concern???? There are different levels of crappy service. Being treated as if you are stupid is one of the most egregious. Shame on management for not being on top of this situation. No one in our party will return. If you do go, be sure to bring your dunce cap and resign yourself to being treated like the idiot that staff is convinced you must be. read more

I've been craving Thai food quite a bit lately. I wandered in here after spotting it on my phone while driving around and honestly hadn't even noticed it was there even though it's pretty close to home. The interior is way bigger and more inviting than it looks from the parking lot, it's got a bit of an L-shape to it. I went with the drunken noodles based partly on the other reviews I'd read. I ordered it Thai hot, of course, and the waiter was very interested in making sure that it was hot enough without being deadly. I have to say everything hit the spot, it was the right amount of heat and the texture of the noodles was perfect and I devoured the entire thing. The service was great and the people who worked here were very nice, and we actually got into a pretty short but entertaining conversation because I made some sort of offhanded comments about the American Apparel and Medical Marijuana ads on the back of the Westword.
