I had yet another snow day from work, and while working from home I got a craving for Thai. My usual go-to, Bamboo Thai, doesn't deliver until 5:00pm, and it was only noon so Foodler recommended Thai Place. I ordered the red curry with beef and the wonton soup. The curry was pretty gosh darn good. Not too spicy but lots of flavor. Red curry is my favorite of all thai foods and this did not disappoint. I also was glad that they delivered it with the rice separate from the curry which makes the leftovers better since the rice can't get mushy. The soup was just so-so. Not a lot of flavor going on and the wontons fell apart far too easily. It could have used a bit of salt and more stuff in the broth. I would go back for the curry but skip the soup. read more

I love this place. I order from here every week or 2 and I'm never unhappy. I recommend ordering out or getting delivery as the small dining area doesn't make for the best experience, but the food is so darn good! They easily have the best Tom Kha Gai (coconut, chicken, mushroom soup) I've had to date. I usually order with extra mushrooms to make any leftovers go just a bit further. It's perfectly creamy and a little tangy, and the tablespoon of chili sauce I normally add gives it a nice kick. I've tried a lot of dishes on the menu but find that you cannot go wrong with the country pad thai and all curry dishes. All of the appetizers I've tried are very light and flavorful. Ordered Thai Place through Foodler last night. I live up the street and have walked past this place a million times and never even noticed it. I usually order from Brown Sugar, but this was the first Thai place to come up on Foodler, it had been reviewed a bunch, so I went with it. I ordered a very standard takeout meal. Pad Thai Country (only noticeable difference between normal pad thai was extra chili sauce) & thai rolls. Both were delicious. The spring rolls were crispy without an ounce of grease. The pad thai was massive. I have enough for 3 meals out of it. Plus it tasted great. Delivery was quick and the delivery girl was polite & friendly. I don't do take out often, but I will definitely be going back when I need my pad thai fix. read more

So there's the matter of the weird Thai pop videos (the group is Tiwa Hula Hula and I think you should go Google them immediately) and the matter of the general chaotic feel to the place. That's one thing. And DON'T park across the street, because the bouncer/server/security guy (still trying to figure out his role) will yell at you about getting towed. The food, however, is tasty. Didn't love the coconut soup (and can't figure out why there's no tom kha ga), but the green curry with shrimp was pretty darn good and my friend's mango fried rice was to die for (seriously, why do mangoes in Boston in April taste so good? I'm cutting Thai Place off my list. I do understand that they have a loyal clientele, and I respect that.... but I've had way too many inconsistencies. It's a shame, because I've had a few good meals here, they are very convenient, and WAY more humble/low-key than Dok Bua or Brown Sugar. But I refuse to wait nearly 50 minutes for 2 pad thai orders. This is not delivery... this is a pickup order. I gave them a solid 25 minutes before I arrived (she said 15 when I called in my order). Granted... they were WILDLY busy at the time, but I was pretty confident that my order was skipped over by other customers. They were terribly understaffed for whatever reason, and it really screwed up my night. To cap it off, the food was super bland. Almost bland enough to complain, but I didn't want to lose the remainder of my night on that place. They've also taken very long on some deliveries in the past, and have screwed up twice during delivery orders (putting chicken in a vegetarian's tofu dish). I'm giving them 2 stars on this update because they must be doing something right to have such loyal customers. Also, I have had at least two really good meals from there in the past.... but overall, I rank them a distant 3rd or 4th behind Brown Sugar, Dok Bua, and Rod Dee. Hadn't ordered from Thai Place in a while, and boy, did it ever hit the spot tonight. I got the red curry again (with beef and extra veggies) -- and it was as delicious as before. I can't wait to devour the leftovers tomorrow. But what is prompting me to add a star and update my review is the crab rangoon. I'm not a huge fan because often they are so greasy and contain very little crab and too much cream cheese. But these? These were delicate pillows of crab-stuffed heaven. Seriously. Before the food arrived... 1) I prepaid the tip (never again). This was on top of their delivery fee. 2) I waited an hour for delivery. 3) When the food came, the delivery person came, he could not 'come up to my apt' since he was the only in the car. Bullsh*t. What's the tip for? After the food arrived, my friends and I found that... 1) The spring rolls were okay but there was a little too much tofu filler and taste 2) The country pad thai was frickin' gross. Maybe it's because it took so long to get the food, but it was a globular mess. It tasted like hot sauce on a glob of noodles - that's it. 3) Crispy chicken dish was not crispy and fairly tasteless. Seriously, did I order on a bad day? 4) Basil with crispy chicken - better 5) Their version of crab rangoon - not bad. Probably the best thing about the entire order. Lovely little place. ive been getting food here for years. Authentic, amazing and its a bunch of older asian women making delicious traditional meals. Even my friends from thailand love it, especially when they miss home. Curry is dairy allergy friendly as is most thai foods. Food is always hot and fresh and ive never had a problem with my order even tho i get it at least once a week (sometimes more). Support this small business. I am one happy customer who lives nearby. Super affordable, fresh and consistent amazing service. Ive lived in boston for several years in many locations and this is THE best place to go. Never takes more than 15 minutes, 20-25 at MOST which has never happened except maybe once. I dont even bother prdering anywhere else half the time, because this place is so good. read more

I've only ordered delivery here and they're really hit or miss. If they could get their quality to be consistent, they could really be one of my favorite places. 5 stars for their crab rangoons, I usually hate them but theirs are yummy. 4 stars for pad see ew, I had to add soy sauce to get the right flavor profile, and their pork was very overcooked. 3 stars for their crispy basil chicken, not impressed. Mostly sweet and sour sauce, no basil, not crispy. 1 star for their veggie tempura. Soggy, no flavor, all went into the garbage. read more

My favorite Allston/Brighton Thai so far. It's cheap and pretty good quality. Keep in mind that this is not high-end Thai food though - don't go here expecting that or you'll be disappointed. The food is good quality, they let you customize it and everything, but it's not like Brown Sugar or Bangkok City Restaurant where they have fancy, high-end thai. I like this place. It's your typical hole in the wall, meant for delivery/takeout restaurant. Yes there are chairs and tables, but dont expect any kind of real dining experience here, that is not what this place is. Having said that, lets talk about the food. Its good. Pretty much sums it all up. Whatever you think sounds good, order it, cause it probably is. There hasnt been one thing at this place i've gotten that has had me regret it. If anything, if you're not into spicy thai food, don't order any of the spicy dishes cause they serve it hot n spicy. And i like it hot n spicy, just like my women. Just kidding, but not really. Their pad thai is obviously good, as any decent thai restaurant should serve that dish well enough, but their seafood spaghetti tom yum dish is absurd. I went to this place after a few friends recommended it to me. I ordered Basil Pad Thai and although it tasted pretty good, there was a sizable rock (that looked like slate) in my food that broke into pieces after I bit on it (see picture attached)! I think the rock was curled up in a basil leaf and so I am assuming the basil wasn't cleaned properly. This was really disappointing and scary as I could have broken a tooth or digested a rock. I really thought it was something else at first since it was black, maybe some burned food, but after examining it carefully it was very clearly a rock. This place is such a hidden gem!! I have literally been a loyal customer of Thai Place for 10 years now. Order the chicken basil fried rice. I have lost count of how many people try it and then call me to ask "what was that amazing dish you got called?" Or any of their curry dishes are phenomenal. The one mildly unpleasant experience I had there in the last decade was when I ordered the papaya salad and the sticky rice was old and stale, not fresh at all. But seriously, not bad considering the amount of times I've gone here! Overall I would recommend either doing pickup or going there to eat, sometimes delivery can take a while since they are a small establishment and only have 1 driver... but if it's not during a time restaurants are usually busy then go for it! read more

I have been ordering delivery from here for a while and have gotten mixed results. Sometimes delivery as fast other times slow. Food is more a hit than a miss but still misses more than I would like. If you are ordering delivery from here, there is a good chance you will have to wait a while from 45min to 2hrs. This place is very busy sometimes. However, when I get an a estimate I expect at latest 10 mins after that not 45 mins. Overall this does have good food so order if you want thai but beware the delivery sometime and hope they are not busy. read more

The papaya tastes authentic, chicken soup tastes almost like Thai homemade chicken soups, good still. It's a tiny restaurant more suitable for takeout which is why it's my go to Thai takeout place, the few times I dined in the customer service was good too just super cramped. read more

What I love about the Thai Place is the authenticity of the food. This is a small mom-and-pop restaurant and you can tell they put a lot of care and love into the food. The portion sizes are generous and everything was super tasty. Beware that some dishes can be very spicy like the papaya salad. Thai Place is one of my favorite places in the city for affordable, good eats. Quality, consistent food and a kind, reliable staff. I often go for the lunch special which is a great value: $9-$11 for an entree, a drink, and three lil appetizers. The country pad Thai and massaman curry are my favorites. But the crab Rangoons are absolutely the best I've ever had: stuffed to the brim with the filling and a thick, crispy wonton. Really unmatched by anywhere else in Boston. There is a place on the next block that I love but decided one day to try this place. I am not a picky guy but I did get the sense that the woman behind the counter was pissed off. My intuition was correct as she answered a phone order and grimaced and PUNCHED the counter in front of all the customers. A guy came from out back to calm her down. (Must've been a bad day. We're all human.) She did seem to take solace in the Taylor Swift music video playing on the TV above. The food wasn't bad but I found it to offer a LOT more white rice than actual entree. Talk about bang for your buck, this Place has the best Thai food in the whole city and costs half the price. When I lived in Brighton I would get Tum Yum Soup, Thai Rolls and one of their great selection of crispy chicken dishes delivered at least once a week by their super friendly drivers. Plus you can never go wrong with a Thai Iced Tea. The only problem with Thai Place is the tiny dining in area, which is fine in the summertime but gets freezing cold in the winter. read more
