A true SE gem, but wish they actual delivered to real SE :-/

Still the bomb. Make sure if you order carry-out, delivery, or eat in to get your favorite spices from the spice tray. I, of course, love the dried birds eye red peppers most. Chicken kapraw forever. Their dumplings come with a sweet soy based sauce that is wonderful. The srping rolls are light with a delicate sauce. Eat in, ask for the spice tray, and commune with Bruce L and Bob M. :) Oh yeah, BYOB. Stop at Schneider's (or wherever) and keep rolling with your own fave drinks. read more

A good go-to Thai restaurant on Capitol Hill. I usually order delivery from them and I'm a big fan. Good spicy food.

So I am what you call that person....the one who if they like a place they keep going. Thai Orchid is so far from my house but the food is excellent and the customer service is first class. They know a lot of their customers by name and they are kind and patient with everyone that enters. I am sure your probably use to going to Thai restaurants where you are ordering and they rush you and really don't give you a good description of what your getting......well not here they are so nice and will walk you through the menu...substitute stuff cause you know that's my MO....but overall just love this spot!!!!! read more

After reading the reviews, I decided to give this place a try. The food was okay. A bit oily more so than favorable. It was palatable, but I wouldn't label it as my go to Thai place. I would return to try something different. read more

The owner is a kind man with good people skills. He was patient with us as we were trying to pick a meal. He even gave us free "sample" tea (it was delicious). The food was great! We got the salmon basil rice and pineapple rice. It looks like a hole in the wall on the outside (aka sketchy Chinese restaurant) but it is nice on the inside and it's pretty calm on a Saturday night. Very homey. There's parking too. read more

My husband and i stopped here randomly on our way home to jersey from VA and at firstit looked a little sketchy because of the neihborhood but boy was i in for a treat. So so so glad we gave it a chance because the food is amazing!!! The service was good but my goodness you all need to try this place. We had shrimp rolls for appetizers and then my husbad ate the chicken pad thai and i ordered the Siam fried rice dinner with chicken. I cannot wait to be in the area again to eat at this place again and my husband is a thai food lover. Cannot go wrong with giving it a try! read more

I decided to give this place a try after reading the rave reviews on here and I have to say I agree! I got the Lemon Grass soup with vegetables and the Pad Thai with beef and both were delicious. Also, the portion of Pad Thai was huge! I will definitely go back to try the drunken noodles...I was having a hard time deciding between that and the Pad Thai. This is definitely going to be my new go to for Asian take out. The only downfall is the location...it could be a little sketchy to park and walk at night so I would probably go earlier or have it delivered. read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars because the food is really good AND they deliver. Drunken noodles, fried rice, pad Thai. Those are our go-tos. All quite tasty. I'd give them five stars if the delivery was flawless. It isn't. They forgot us one night and we had to call to checkin an hour later. read more

First time is a charm....I have had my eye on this spot but was a little hesitant due to the appearance whenever I drive by. However, I was pleased to find out they deliver and recently gave it a shot. I ordered the pad see eew (added shrimp) and shrimp spring rolls. They took a reasonable amount of time and my food was hot and fresh. The pad see eew was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Many times that dish has more noodles than anything. This was not the case. The sauce that came with the spring rolls was also a treat. I eat Thai all the time and I this place got it right. Will def order from them again. read more

Wut up fools, dis yo homeboy again. Was in the area & pulled out my yelpy & found this place within a mile away. Pictures & reviews looked good. Only downside is the parking. They have a side parking but its 30 minutes minimum. Found another parking space not too far. Their pricing are affordable & they have great stuff. Tried out their pineapple rice, basil chicken rice, their calamari was delicious, especially with their dipping sauce. Also got a few of their tai drinks. Dessert was a mango rice pudding thing, good stuff! Had a few friends with me & we all shared dishes. A lot of flavor, healthy eating, and affordable prices. Can't beat that. This place has been the biggest surprise of the last two years. I remember it as a strip joint as a kid but the crispy basil shrimp, the Pad Thai and the curries are excellent while still maintaining a neighborhood hole in the wall vibe. It's good for a first date or just hanging with friends. And I always get my fave table ;) read more

Excellent food - the Penang and Peanut pad curry are definitely recommended. Get it spicy and with tofu and you won't be disappointed. Some of the best Thai food I've had in DC. The delivery is swift, accurate and pleasant. Portions big enough for leftovers the next day. read more

Food was good. I got the thai iced tea, spicy pad thai and spring rolls. Pad thai way too spicy and loved the spring rolls not greasy at all. And the tea was amazing. I too am starting away for the spiciness. But added the star back cus the delivery was very fast. Like 20 minutes. Overall great!!! read more

I love Thai Orchid for the food and the service. Probably the best Thai food I've had in the city. My favorites are the Pad Thai, Drunken Spaghetti (very spicy!) and the Pineapple Fried Rice. The portions are great for lunch and dinner. The ambiance inside is nice since the remodel. It's good for families and friends, not a romantic date for two, but the food is worth it. The staff is always helpful and friendly! And they deliver too! read more

I am sort of upset with myself for not realizing that almost 8 years have gone by and this gem has been in my mother's neighborhood. I am in the area quite frequently and have never looked across Penn Ave. to see the old "Mama's kitchen" turned into Thai Orchid's Kitchen. There is parking available on the side of the building, I'm not quite sure how the parking will hold up once the neighborhood changes over. I had the Kaprow chicken and it was delicious. I had enough to take home and snack on for later that evening, lunch the next day, and dinner afterwards. The interior's decorating is a bit outdated, but I personally enjoy dining establishments that seem to focus more on the quality of the food and less on the frills which usually means higher menu prices. The prices are comparable to other authentic Thai places in Northern VA, I'm super ecstatic I took a chance, This will be my new spot for sure. read more

I came here on a whim. I thought the use of Thai in their name was being used loosely considering their location. But it actually was a Thai restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised. The service was pleasant and the food was great!! The venue itself was average...nothing to write home about; but I would definitely return for those times I'm itching for Asian cuisine and happen to be in the hood. They have a great spot and I hope the folks in that area take good care of them. My overall rating...four forks up! read more

Good food and helpful service. I notice that a lot of people get carry out food from Thai Orchid, but we ate in the dining area--which is pleasant though not fancy. It was a late lunch and quiet enough to have a pleasant visit with my daughter, son-in-law, and my new grandkid. I liked my red curry. We were happy customers. read more

Well...we finally tried the Thai food. Long sigh...the delivery man was so very pleasant and that is the only reason I gave it two stars. The food wasn't awful but it wasn't great...my girlfriend bit into her spring roll and pulled out a long piece of some kind of plastic. We thew the rest away...won't be going back. Ugh. read more

I've had a lot of authentic Thai food (family lived there for ~5 years so I've been back a lot) and I have to say this is pretty damn good for the DC area. Larb gai was excellent. I would change nothing. Tom yum w/ shrimp was awesome. They don't skimp on the shrimp and it was spicy without being painful. Pad Thai was great. I only wish it had lime! The portion was massive though (and again, they don't skimp on the shrimp). Panang curry was merely okay. As another review noted, it seemed to be waterier (not sure if that makes sense). It also didn't have as much flavor, and you could tell by the color. The sauce was more of a pale orange. All in all, I'll definitely be back! I live in Capitol Hill and it was easy to drive there and park around the corner. Generous portions! read more

We ordered delivery based on the reviews, and report utter disappointment. The Pad Thai had a fishy after taste. How that happened is beyond me. The chicken in the green curry was rubbery, and not to be left out of this cornucopia of mediocrity, the beef in the Panang had several unsavory bits. I've only ever gotten take-out from here but my roommate and I only order Thai from here because the food is so good! We love the Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles! And the curry puffs were really really good. My only complaint is it usually takes an hour for us to get our food! We're so starving by the time it comes we'd eat anything. Very good little hole in the wall type restaurant. I had the thai iced tea, Thai salad (many fresh veggies and very big!), shrimp tempura (came with tempura veggies too) and drunken noodles with beef. The noodles were softer and chewier than I'm used to but the flavor was great. read more

I worked from home all day, but figured I had to get dressed to pick up my dinner from Thai Orchid - something I was not so anxious to do. Imagine my PLEASANT surprise when I called to order and the lovely young woman on the phone confirmed they WOULD deliver to SW (near the waterfront). Yippee! The food was good - still hot and plentiful. I ordered the seafood drunken noodles, steamed dumplings (more like shu mai), and mango and sticky rice. As usual the noodles were good. The seafood wasn't as plentiful as the last time I ordered it, several months ago, but nevertheless a good quantity. I would note that the last time it was an early day of the week day and today is a Friday when I would imagine they arw much busier. The dumplings were delicious and the mango and sticky rice was soooo......good. The mango was a good portion. i could have eaten 2 orders the mango and rice were so yummy. I have a real sweet tooth so always get the extra order of peanut sauce for $1. I put it on everything.....the drunken noodles, the dumplings, the leftover baked chicken I'll have on Sunday, and the plain rice noodle I will make tomorrow for dinner. My plentiful leftovers from tonight will be lunch for tomorrow (and maybe a little with a poached egg for breakfast). You can't go wrong if you order from Thai Orchid Kitchen....especially if they'll deliver it to you! Happy eating! read more
