A favorite appetizer of mine from this Southeast Asian cuisine is Steamed Dumplings. One bite into them was revelatory. They tasted freshly made with the skins were supple from the steaming, and the stuffing was enticing with a savory mix of ground pork and shrimp, exuding an a la minute quality in each mouthful. The side of dark soy sauce was the perfect accompaniment with its slightly sweet dark molasses alongside its soy umami saltiness. The owner exclaimed that this was a big seller hence their freshly-made quality and flavor, which my dining companions raved about. Admittedly, this is one of the best versions I have eaten in the area. Another meat appetizer that equally impressed me was Chicken Satay. The skewers of meat were not the plainly seasoned ones found in most establishments. Here, the meat was properly grilled but still moist with hints of root herbs of galangal and lemongrass, colored by a hit of yellow turmeric. But it was the peanut sauce that sealed the deal with its nutty sweet and creamy mix echoing the use of the root herbs in the bites. Two good appetizers indeed. Ordered delivery for dinner from Thai Orchid today. Very good! I got the Tom Kha soup (that's the slightly less-popular coconut lime soup) - it was fantastic, the best I've had in DC and probably one of the best I've ever had. After reading reviews, I also got the Drunken Noodles. Honestly, I wasn't amazed by them, but they were pretty good. Doubt I'll get them again, but I wasn't disappointed. The portions were huge; I got a soup and noodles and it was enough to feed 2 hungry people. Love this food! We moved to SE 2 years ago, and were so happy to find a great delivery place nearby. We order from here at least once a month, usually twice. Fave dishes: Spicy Chicken salad, Tom Kha soup, Panang curry (all of their curries), appetizer sampler, Crispy shrimp basil. But honestly it's all great. Highly recommend. We would always carry friends from out of town to Thai Orchid it is our go to place. However today was the worst experience we have ever had. Today entertained a client at the restaurant for a quick close by meal. I mentioned to a staff member that my usual curry puffs taste as if the flour was old and the inside was of poor quality ingredients. He stated someone would assist us. No one did. We were totally ignored and the restaurant did not remove it from the bill. This is the last time this place will ever get another dollar from my family. This is my go-to for Thai delivery! They deliver in most of SE and NE. The food is not too expensive and as solid as any other Thai place in DC. And portions are LARGE! Be prepared to have leftovers. Wait is between 20-60 mins; they delivered on a snow day and it was just what was needed. Try the Tom Kha - super flavorful coconut broth soup with lemongrass and galangal chunks floating around in it. Other stuff's good too: drunken noodles, any coconut curry. The papaya salad was not spicy but this is a perpetual problem with papaya salads - either not spicy or WAY too spicy... But I digress. 5 stars! read more

Some co-workers ordered from them quite often. They all had good things to say about this place, so I figured I'd give them a try. The first time I ordered, I only ordered some spring rolls. The spring rolls were flavorful, but I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce they serve them with. The second time I ordered, I got the Whiting Dinner and the Lemon Grass Soup with Chicken. Everything was delicious. The Whiting Dinner comes with crinkle cut french fries and the fish was fried to perfection. It wasn't fried too hard and it wasn't not too limp. Great food. Heard lots about it since I live in the local area but tend to stay away from many hole in the wall places. Let me tell you crispy chicken, the basil fried rice with chicken and the spring rolls were excellent. I would definitely eat here again. On the downside, quality costs. Upon reading the "great" reviews, I decided to order here for lunch. The food did come at a fast rate. However, the food was very mediocre. I ordered the basil beef and chicken satay due to it being a $15 minimum for delivery with an additional $2 delivery fee. The food was warm not hot. Additionally, the basil beef was not spicy like I ordered, in fact it was FAR from it with no hint of spice. The chicken satay was delicious though. Overall, I might order here for convenience but definitely compared to all the Thai places I have eaten, it would be at the bottom. $21 dollars spent for just OK food definitely not the best Thai in DC. read more

Thai Orchid Kitchen has excellent food!! It's delicious, well prepared and they deliver. The sticky mango rice is yummy. I've had several dishes from this restaurant and have yet to be disappointed. Order from here a lot since I live so close by. Pros: They are very fast at making your food and responding to online orders Cons: fried rice and noodle dishes are a bit too greasy. Drinks like their thai tea are overpriced, although their menu is a little high in general. Whatever you do, pass on their "buffalo wings". OK curry puff, shrimp/veg tempura (too much batter) and meh pad Thai ( though not bad for delivery). Good lemon grass soups. Their dessert mango & sticky rice is yummy. I order through eat24. One thing I don't play with is my money, I was a regular until 5 minutes ago. Usually when I call a lady takes my order, today it was a man. I ordered two things both 10.95, he asked how I was paying, and once I said credit card he said give me number. I said no what is the total first of all, he says 26 and some change. I said umm no, he says oh hold on, and I hear the calculator, comes back and say 28 and some change. I'm not a mathematician, but I do know even with taxes and 1.00 delivery fee, two items at 10.95 is NOT 28 and some change!! This is not the first place of business to play games over the phone when using a credit card and delivering, all these people are the same! Who would have thought that the best Thai food in the city comes from a little carry out in Anacostia? Certainly not me. My co-workers ordered several times (they actually deliver to my work) and the delicious smells of ginger and chili would have me salivating. I finally broke down and ordered carry out one day, they told me 15 minutes but it was ready to go when I got there five minutes later. The ginger chicken was so good, with giant chunks of fresh ginger. The curry puffs are little pieces of heaven. I've ordered delivery now several times, the pad thai was the best I'd ever had. I was really scared that at first glance that this place was just another bad chinese food place that plagues this area east of the river which drives most decent residents across the river and to other parts of city to have a decent meal. So I talked myself in to giving them a shot and I was thoroughly IMPRESSED!! I had the Shrimp Drunken noodles and the vegetable soup and my partner had the Green curry with Tofu and I will tell you that out of all the thai food I've had in and around the city, this place is definitely in the top 3! As an east river resident, I was very happy to see this place come to our neck of the woods. Like another reviewer said, it's nothing fancy but the food is pretty good and the people are courteous. I have had a few entrees, penang with tofu, kra pow (sp?) chicken, spring rolls, thai tea, and the shrimp appetizer. All have been good but not as good as some other thai restaurants I've dined at in the DC area. I've made orders via, phone, web and have even used the delivery service, all methods have operated smoothly. I'd say it definitely worth a visit. read more

Best and really only Thai food East of the River in DC. We love this place. The staff are so friendly and they often give us free food to take home or to have while we wait. We like the whole fish and I think the drunken noodles are really good. Good alternative to the other carry out places in the area. No bullet proof glass in this place. Still in love with this place. It gets more yummier as I try new things. I finally made it into see the place. Its not fancy dancy but its clean and the staff and owner are ever so nice! I recently added a new item to my repertoire! I had the drunken spaghetti and my cousins wife had the drunken noodle. Both very tasty however, I preferred the drunken spaghetti since it brought the heat. (or maybe its because I had a lengthy convo with the owners sister-in-law about how much I love authentic thai food, flavors heat and all?) I like the fact that orders are made fresh on the spot. I keep telling people DO NOT ORDER the PAD THAI, if you do you will be dissapointed. I don't know why its so bland and dry but it is definitely lacking. HOWEVER, if you step outside of that everything else is damn good. I am still ever in love with the crispy chicken, crispy shrimp, spicy tilapia and their panag curry chicken or shrimp-haven't tried the beef yet but I heard it's good too.
