Khan so I was one of the best dishes we had. Packed with flavor.

Tommy C.

The food pretty much what you get from a lot of more catering Thai restaurants service is very nice though sometimes a tad inattentive. The dishes we did try that were different from other Thai places were the pork dumplings and the khan so I. Those were so good. Prices aren't half bad at all. Would definitely go back.

Vince C.

Everything was great - we had the Tom Yum Shrimp, beef pad Thai and the sweet and sour shrimp which came with a serving of rice and we ordered an extra brown rice. They didn't have pork nor fish for selection though and not sure if they ever offered them; hence the 4 rating. Nevertheless our dishes were delicious. We also had the sticky rice with mango and fried banana with vanilla ice cream for dessert and were also very nice. Service was great as our waitress came up a couple times to ask if we enjoyed the food. She was even kind to take a couple pictures. We also liked the ambiance as the Thai decor made the whole place authentic and appealing. They did have a couple of tables outside but too hot and humid to be outside. No issues with parking as this was located in a shopping center. We would visit this place again if we have another visit to Dallas.

Had dinner here with my husband on a whim. Walked in around 5:45 and had the place to ourselves. Immediately greeted with warm hand towels. We were sat at a booth which was very comfortable. The ambiance was really cute, easily a date night spot. Started with cups of Tom Yum soup, spice level 4 (out of 5). The soup was delicious but 4 was no joke so I went a little slower on mine. Split chicken satay, the chicken wasn't as marinated as I've had elsewhere but the peanut dipping sauce was like legit peanut butter almost which we loved and came with another peanut dipping choice that was equally as good. 4 skewers so easy to share between two! By now a few other tables had come in which was nice to see, I already at this point thought the place deserved to be busier. It's just a cute cozy spot and we felt comfortable taking our time through some apps before ordering entrees. I ordered the Thai Opal Glass Noodle Curry, I love glass noodles and it was cooked well. I didn't taste curry as much as I'm familiar with but I was happy it was its own unique flavor. The curry to it wasn't a sauce like my husband was expecting. He ordered the Spicy Basil Noodle/Pad Kee Mao. His was very very good and saucier than mine. We only had water with our meals which came without ice which was preferable to me especially in the winter months! The service was excellent, we had three different people consistently checking on us but not in an obtrusive way. Did not use the restrooms so cannot comment on that. 2 cups of soup, 1 appetizer, 2 entrees was $62 This place is definitely worth checking out to anyone still reading and we'll likely be back.

It is ok... was expecting more as i have been here many years ago. Prices for the portions and taste. I assume they change cooks?

Incredible experience. Attentive staff. Welcoming owner, amazing server & delicious food. The ambiance is beautiful. The food was well presented with no long wait. Great for a date or casual night out.

Laura C.

Our hostess this Saturday, midday, was very busy and alone out front - busing and cleaning, seating customers, taking orders and bringing out food, answering the phone and was visibly stressed. We took a look at our menus and had questions; but she was speedwalking through the place. Sometimes I can be a little shy about tackling waitstaff. Let's start with accepting that restaurant prices are higher because they need to be. I understand. Food is higher and restaurant employees need to be paid more. Why was it just her there? I didn't ask. Just accepted it. Although I'm okay with higher prices; restaurants need to make their updated menus legible and I had a legibility problem here at Thai Opal where they obviously kept trying to write over white out. Unfortunately, I just guessed at the price. When she did approach us to order, we started with what we could definitely read and then she turned and was walking away as I was trying to finish ordering. She was still talking to us as she was putting the menus away. In the end, I wasn't surprised when the spring rolls came and contained none of the chicken I had ordered. It was mostly wrapper and a few brown vegetables. I WAS surprised when they turned out to be $5.99. I didn't get that from the menu scribble at all and they certainly are not worth it. Tasteless fried sticks. Ironically, the dipping sauce was delicious. Thai Opal charges $1.50 for anything other than tofu and vegetables with their rice, curry and noodle dishes. I didn't find that to be very clear in the menu; but we asked. My spouse ordered a red curry with chicken. Heat level #3. Their menu didn't have Pad Kee Mao and I was craving rice noodles, so I ordered the Spicy Basil Noodles; a very similarly described dish. Heat level #3. He was happy with the flavor and heat of his curry, if not the portion size. My dish had pretty good flavor but absolutely no heat. A "spicy" noodle dish with no heat. I had a little to eat and stopped. Although she did stop back by to ask how everything was, I said nothing. I have to be honest about that. All I had wanted was to please my husband. If he was happy, I wasn't going to make waves. $40 plus tip later, we're out the door. I took my dish home and added pepper flakes and ate it watching TV. Thai Opal is a lovely restaurant with numerous good reviews. It just wasn't a good day for me, for sure, and I probably won't be back there for awhile.

Leanne G.

We have enjoyed take-out from Thai Opal before but dined in for the first time. The food was good and the ambiance was surprisingly comfortable for being in a strip mall. The service was outstanding. Although we enjoyed our meal, each dish had something that was a bit unexpected. The masaman curry was very sweet but had nice textures with the veg and nuts. The Lard Na had a great variety of vegetables but the noodles were over cooked and became gelatinous. Finally, the Garlic stir fry had nice flavors and lots of veg (especially carrots); the garlic was nearly raw and in big chunks. They were so pungent that we had to avoid the big ones (and we are garlic lovers). We will come back if we're in the neighborhood.

Alisha S.

Came here seeking a healthy meal while also craving my favorite: Thai. Was pleasantly surprised to find a Thai fried rice with a brown rice alternative. I got it with tofu and no egg, which was perfect for my new food lifestyle. It was delicious! So so good! I also got sautéed edamame which hit the spot! And filled me very quickly! Service was kind and accommodating.

Thai Opal was my Thai craving go to. But a few days ago I wanted to order some food and the person on the other line was making it so difficult to take my order. It was like she was making an effort to not understand my food order. I decided not to order that evening. The food is good but I was disappointed in the service. Too bad. In search of some good thai food, me and my husband ended up here thanks to Yelp :] We ordered the coconut soup, and pad thai. I would give the coconut soup a 5 stars hands down, it is one of the best coconut soups I've had in Dallas. On the other had the pad thai was a 2.5-3. It was missing something, it was a little sweet and needed something to balance the sweetness. I will say the service was excellent and our waiter was fantastic. read more

I love spicy red curry, but was a little disappointed in the spiciness I received. I placed an order to go (red shrimp curry and vegetable pad thai). Service was great and quick. I guess the spice levels vary from place to place. Instead of driving all the way up to Richardson for my favorite Thai place, this good did the trick in a pinch! read more

Oustanding! Everything was perfect and the service was great! Update 10/16/15.. I lowered from 5 to 3 stars... Food still tastes great, but the portions and the amount meat they add is getting very skimpy. They are going as far to cut the meat into tiny little pieces to throw you off. Best Thai restaurant in Dallas. I know that's a bold statement to make but I'm going to stick by it. I've had Thai food from many different restaurants in the DFW metroplex and this place still hasn't been topped. My favorite dish is from here is Drunken Noodles. Their takeout is also delicious. A lot of places will have good food in the restaurant, but poor quality takeout but this place is definitely not one of them. They are very fast too, my meal is usually ready 10-15 min after I order. I've actually moved from Dallas but still compare this place to every Thai restaurant I go to. When I went recently over winter break I was happy to find their food was still as fresh as alway. Anyway great service and delicious food, I will always recommend this place to people read more

I'm a big fan of Thai Opal. Right when you sit down at your table you are greeted with a hot towel to clean your hands and begin the dining experience. Everything that I have tried is delicious and they are also good for take out orders because they always give an accurate time for pick up and they wrap the meal in aluminum foil so it stays hot all the way home. Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are two of my favorite dishes, but the normal entrees (served with rice in the shape of a heart) are all good too. I haven't tried the dessert because I'm always too full after the main course. read more

Nice place to relax with friends and enjoy some great Thai food. Smallish restaurant is tastefully decorated and quiet enough to converse. Good food takes some time, so you might want to BYOB. Appetizers came out quickly. Heat is on 5 star system, but I'd say you can probably add a star to what you usually eat. Good sized portions, and very tasty. Attentive, friendly service. I love that I could order online and that it was able to be ready soon. They packaged it really well--food in aluminum foil to keep it warm inside the Styrofoam to-go box. Right off the bat I was not a fan of the texture and the crab tasted like it came from a can. The flavors were not great either so we ended up adding our own sauce. It also did not taste spicy at all despite ordering level 4. Pad Thai Pork ($17.45): Got this with spice level 3 and vegan sauce. The pork was overcooked and tasted almost like chicken. The spice level came through on this one but the sauce leaned too sour, which I think was from too much tamarind. Mi Krop Crispy ($12.50): Crispy wontons tossed in a sweet and sour tamarind sauce with some scrambled egg and one jumbo shrimp. The wontons were not crispy at all and the flavor was only slightly better than the pad thai. Still not worth it. Trying to make it at home but not sure how to make it foamy like they do. The curry dish with rice and meat was a slam dunk, I loved it. I can see why a coworker at my old job recommended it, it's pretty solid. Vibes are not as tropical and more like fine dining in this location. Keep up the good work

There's just been truly so many outstanding experiences I've had in Houston. Regardless, the food was very good and it was authentic, we did get dishes similar to what we got at Street to Kitchen in Houston, which is the most authentic Thai we've had. Food: I forgot to take pictures of two other dishes we ordered, the Thai chicken, wings, and the drunken noodles. But let me start with the complementary sticky rice. I've actually never had a complementary "starter" at a Thai restaurant, so they stood out, and it was a good meal prepper. The dip is an eggplant type of dip so it's not peanut sauce based. It was really good. The best dish was the crab dip with the shrimp chips, the dip was curried and balanced well with the crab. The chicken wings weren't as crispy as we're used to, and there were more on the saucy side, but it was a solid 4/5 dish. The drunken noodles were good and I feel like they had a great mix of veggies, beef, and noodles in the dish, so it wasn't so carb heavy. But we've definitely had better flavor drunken noodles before. Lastly, the mango sticky rice presentation was unlike anything I've seen before, and I loved it. Do I prefer the traditional sliced mango over a bit of rice? Perhaps. But I did enjoy tasting the mango and the condensed milk and a sticky rice together inside the coconut for a change. Service: we went during dinnertime on a Saturday night, and I was so impressed with the level of service we had. Because don't get me wrong, they were busy, but the food came out so fast & we had multiple servers filling up our water and ensuring we're doing okay. We were literally out of there in about an hour, but it wasn't because they were pushing us out, it was truly because everything was so quick. And I loved that strategy they used where we didn't have just one server assigned to us, which is probably why they are thriving here in Dallas. Overall, if you're craving Thai, I would recommend coming here.

Jeow Som / Bang Bang Sauce ($3.49): The container is big but you really do not need much. It is very acidic and makes your tongue tingle. After a few dips my palate was registering super salty. I wish they sold a smaller size. Heavenly Beef Jerky ($10.75): These are thinner than your typical beef jerky, almost like they were going for a chip texture. They were pretty dry with just a slight crunch. We ended up dipping them in the bang bang sauce to help with the dryness. Crispy ZAAP Wings ($10.75): These were not as flavorful as we were hoping. They tasted a lot better with the bang bang sauce but on their own they fell flat. I would not get either appetizer again. Drunken Noodles / Pad Kee Mao ($16.99) + Combo Protein ($4): This was the best of everything we ordered. The combo protein came with chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp and the dish came out piping hot and fresh. It tasted really good and is worth ordering.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!! Seriously y'all... My husband and I placed a takeout order through Yelp, paid for our food, and then he went to go pick it up. When he got there the manager had our food ready but REFUSED to give it to him because she didn't know which company fulfilled the order with yelp because she didn't receive the payment from them yet. But mind you she had our order ready, so clearly she could see we had ordered and paid for our food! He showed her our receipt and the payment and she even had a copy of the receipt and the order but would not let him leave. We couldn't even get our money back. She literally told my husband "you sit, you aren't going anywhere". I had to drive up to the restaurant and speak with her. I'm sorry but HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO FULFILLS YOUR COMPANY'S ORDER??? Also, how is it our problem as the customer?? And HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET OFF TELLING A PAYING CUSTOMER THEY CANT LEAVE WITH THE FOOD THEY PAID FOR?? I understand that not receiving the payment yet from the third party company is frustrating, BUT THATS NOT OUR FAULT!! After we pay, and we have a receipt confirming our payment, the issue is now between you and the company that fulfills your orders. It is not our fault. If you can't trust that company then maybe don't use them to fulfill your damn orders!! We give you our money, don't you dare tell us we can't leave with our food. The only reason we finally left is because my sweet husband called the company who fulfills their Yelp order (how he was able to figure out who it was and the MANAGER at Thai opal couldn't is beyond me) and had them confirm to the manager at Thai opal that, yes, we paid for the order that the receipt we had and that Thai opal had already confirmed. The manager was super rude to my husband and I, and tbh the food was super bland and not good. We have eaten here before and it was ok, but I will never go here again, and I would suggest you do the same. Horrible horrible customer service. Beyond disappointed. Also the manager didn't try at all to make anything better. Never did she apologize for the massive inconvenience or anything. read more

This is my first yelp review. I had to write something about this hidden gem. Location is a little secret since its behind a big Tex-Mex restaurant so its pretty difficult to see. However, once you find it, like me, you'll fall in love. During lunch, Susan always gives out complimentary eggrolls. Service is always fast since I do need to head back into work fast. I always order the special, basil eggplant with chicken. It is amazing! It takes all I got to not lick the plate and make a fool out of myself. During dinner, I try new things, the peanut sauce is really yummy and today, I had the whole fish. And wow!! Presentation was phenomenal. And it tasted even better than it looked. It seems their busiest hour, around 7:30, deliveries do take longer. However, I always order around 6 or 6:30 and it takes about 20 minutes and food is always fresh but it's not the same as eating it there where it won't be in a box. Dining in is definitely a better choice. Service is always splendid. They really take care of my every want and need. As soon as I want something, like water or chopsticks, they always hurry to the rescue. There really is nothing bad I can say about this place. I love it. Good job Thai Opal. read more

HORRIBLE! I ordered a takeout order on Yelp (pre-paid online) and when I went to pick it up the manager had my food ready but would not give it to me because she didn't know which third party company fulfills their Yelp orders and the payment hadn't gone through to them yet. This woman had the audacity to tell me I had to sit and could not leave with my food, although I had a receipt and had clearly paid. What kind of business doesn't know who fulfills their orders? If you have an issue with Yelp, then maybe, and this is just a thought, DON'T PUT YOUR BUSINESS ON YELP! The fact that you had my order ready and could clearly see that I paid, but had an issue with the third party company that YOU hired to fulfill your orders and had the nerve to make me, the customer who gave you money, basically be held hostage at your restaurant and catch all kinds of attitude from you is quite honestly the most abhorrent customer service I've ever encountered. I've never written a review before but just wanted to warn others about the horrible service I received here. Will NEVER be coming back. read more

We had a great meal at Thai Opal! There was a small mishap with our order, but the manager, Susan, handled it quickly and professionally--huge kudos to her. We started with the crab rangoons, which were crispy and creamy--solid 8/10. My wife ordered the Pad Thai chicken, which was decent but could've used a bit more salt and flavor--6/10. The spicy basil noodles with beef were a highlight. I asked for 4-star spice, though it wasn't quite as hot as expected--still a solid 8/10 on taste. To top it off, we shared the coconut ice cream--rich, refreshing, and a must-try. We both agreed it deserved a 9/10. All in all, a great spot with delicious food and even better customer service, the scene is really cozy and romantic as well. We'll definitely be back! read more

I recently ordered from Thai Opal via Uber Eats and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. I tried the Fried Chicken Spring Roll and the Spicy Basil, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The spring rolls were crispy and full of flavor, and the spicy basil was the perfect level of heat. The food was delivered promptly and was still hot when it arrived. I would highly recommend Thai Opal to anyone in the Dallas area looking for delicious Thai food. The restaurant's menu has a great variety of options, and the food is always fresh and flavorful. The service through Uber Eats was also top-notch, making the whole process quick and convenient. I will definitely be ordering from Thai Opal again in the future. read more
