The food pretty much what you get from a lot of more catering Thai restaurants service is very nice though sometimes a tad inattentive. The dishes we did try that were different from other Thai places were the pork dumplings and the khan so I. Those were so good. Prices aren't half bad at all. Would definitely go back.

Everything was great - we had the Tom Yum Shrimp, beef pad Thai and the sweet and sour shrimp which came with a serving of rice and we ordered an extra brown rice. They didn't have pork nor fish for selection though and not sure if they ever offered them; hence the 4 rating. Nevertheless our dishes were delicious. We also had the sticky rice with mango and fried banana with vanilla ice cream for dessert and were also very nice. Service was great as our waitress came up a couple times to ask if we enjoyed the food. She was even kind to take a couple pictures. We also liked the ambiance as the Thai decor made the whole place authentic and appealing. They did have a couple of tables outside but too hot and humid to be outside. No issues with parking as this was located in a shopping center. We would visit this place again if we have another visit to Dallas.

Incredible experience. Attentive staff. Welcoming owner, amazing server & delicious food. The ambiance is beautiful. The food was well presented with no long wait. Great for a date or casual night out.

Our hostess this Saturday, midday, was very busy and alone out front - busing and cleaning, seating customers, taking orders and bringing out food, answering the phone and was visibly stressed. We took a look at our menus and had questions; but she was speedwalking through the place. Sometimes I can be a little shy about tackling waitstaff. Let's start with accepting that restaurant prices are higher because they need to be. I understand. Food is higher and restaurant employees need to be paid more. Why was it just her there? I didn't ask. Just accepted it. Although I'm okay with higher prices; restaurants need to make their updated menus legible and I had a legibility problem here at Thai Opal where they obviously kept trying to write over white out. Unfortunately, I just guessed at the price. When she did approach us to order, we started with what we could definitely read and then she turned and was walking away as I was trying to finish ordering. She was still talking to us as she was putting the menus away. In the end, I wasn't surprised when the spring rolls came and contained none of the chicken I had ordered. It was mostly wrapper and a few brown vegetables. I WAS surprised when they turned out to be $5.99. I didn't get that from the menu scribble at all and they certainly are not worth it. Tasteless fried sticks. Ironically, the dipping sauce was delicious. Thai Opal charges $1.50 for anything other than tofu and vegetables with their rice, curry and noodle dishes. I didn't find that to be very clear in the menu; but we asked. My spouse ordered a red curry with chicken. Heat level #3. Their menu didn't have Pad Kee Mao and I was craving rice noodles, so I ordered the Spicy Basil Noodles; a very similarly described dish. Heat level #3. He was happy with the flavor and heat of his curry, if not the portion size. My dish had pretty good flavor but absolutely no heat. A "spicy" noodle dish with no heat. I had a little to eat and stopped. Although she did stop back by to ask how everything was, I said nothing. I have to be honest about that. All I had wanted was to please my husband. If he was happy, I wasn't going to make waves. $40 plus tip later, we're out the door. I took my dish home and added pepper flakes and ate it watching TV. Thai Opal is a lovely restaurant with numerous good reviews. It just wasn't a good day for me, for sure, and I probably won't be back there for awhile.

We have enjoyed take-out from Thai Opal before but dined in for the first time. The food was good and the ambiance was surprisingly comfortable for being in a strip mall. The service was outstanding. Although we enjoyed our meal, each dish had something that was a bit unexpected. The masaman curry was very sweet but had nice textures with the veg and nuts. The Lard Na had a great variety of vegetables but the noodles were over cooked and became gelatinous. Finally, the Garlic stir fry had nice flavors and lots of veg (especially carrots); the garlic was nearly raw and in big chunks. They were so pungent that we had to avoid the big ones (and we are garlic lovers). We will come back if we're in the neighborhood.

Crab Rangoon- burnt and tasted like cooked in old grease

This restaurant was rated almost 5 stars. My experience was not close to that. The taste of the crab Rangoon was dry & stale and tasted like they were rewarmed or flash fried on old grease. The Combination Thai basil fried rice (chicken, beef, shrimp) was fair in flavor but also had a greasy taste to it. The shrimp was also mealy and mushy tasting!!! If I had gotten it more spicy, maybe I might not have detected the oily taste. For 2 items and over $30, this was not my idea of a stellar meal. Service was good for takeout and the restaurant is very clean and neat but food quality is over 75 % of the experience. I would not try this place again.

Came here seeking a healthy meal while also craving my favorite: Thai. Was pleasantly surprised to find a Thai fried rice with a brown rice alternative. I got it with tofu and no egg, which was perfect for my new food lifestyle. It was delicious! So so good! I also got sautéed edamame which hit the spot! And filled me very quickly! Service was kind and accommodating.

Great new discovery at Skillman and Abrams. Small place in the strip shopping center behind Mariano's Hacienda. Excellent Thai food. We had the Panang Curry and Pad Woon Sen. Just the right amount of spicyness requested and the three chili sauces they brought to the table were hot, hot, hot! Service was helpful and friendly. Nice sized portions. Enough to share and instead of community rice, they served individual portions, which I thought was a nice touch. BYOB and no corkage fee. Going back this week to introduce to other friends. read more

Authentic dishes, wonderful staff and a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere makes Thai Opal a must-visit restaurant. After multiple visits and sampling numerous offerings on the menu it is apparent that the owner and staff are as passionate about the preparation of their dishes as they are about their service. Each dish is prepared in the traditional manner, seasoned, sauced and spiced perfectly. The soups are excellent, flavorful broths with large portions of vegetables and meats. The atmosphere is casual with a contemporary flair. Entrees are healthy portions and authentically reflect the flavors of their indigenous regions. It's currently BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorite libation along for the ride. The prices are reasonable, the portions generous, and the staff and service exemplary. Thai Opal delivers an outstanding dining experience and should be on your short list of must-visit restaurants in Dallas. read more

Since moving from the Bay Area, my husband and I have struggled to find quality Asian food in Dallas. I heard about Thai Opal from a friend at work who gave it two thumbs up. My husband and I both agreed that the food was affordable and delicious. The presentation was delicate and thoughtful. I really enjoyed the fried curry rice and pad thai. The cushions and pillows for sitting added nicely to the Asian feel of the decor. The restaurant was short staffed on the night we visited because some employees had unexpectedly become ill. This is a family-run restaurant and the owner let us know that there could be a wait in advance, and she apologized and was attentive in her customer service. She really went above and beyond. My husband and I really enjoyed our time at Thai Opal and are grateful we heard about this lovely gem in Dallas. I'm sure we will be eating there again soon! read more

Terrible service! We called in for a delivery order and we're told it would take 45min to 1 hour for delivery. 1.25 hours later, I called and was told it was out for delivery and would be 15-20 more minutes. 20 minutes later they call us asking for payment when we had already provided a credit card with the initial order that was placed 1 hour and 45 minutes earlier. Lady told us it would be another 15-20 min. We ate dinner (not from there) at nearly 10pm tonight! This is not the first time we've had bad service with this place, but it is certainly the last. Do NOT recommend! read more

The food here is fantastic. I've had the spring rolls, crab Rangoon, summer rolls, pot stickers, Tom yum chicken soup, green curry, pad Thai, pad see eew, and spicy basil noodle. Everything was delicious. Favorites are the Tom yum chicken soup and the spicy basil noodle. You can't go wrong here. I've only ever gotten food to go, but the girls who work here are so sweet while I wait. Everything is so fresh. Best of all, is the chicken. I'm very picky about my chicken, and it's always fresh white chicken breast. read more

My hubby and I ordered delivery from here last night. We both got the Tom Kha noodle soup. It was delicious, but it wasn't the best Tom Kha I've ever had, but good nonetheless. The only complaint I have is that they said it would take 30 to 40 mins but it actually took an hour and 20 minutes. Will probably order from here every now and then. read more

The food was decent. I've had better and more authentic thai food. I ordered the chicken curry and summer rolls. First, it took about 20 mins before someone took our order and brought us water. Then it took 45 mins to get our appetizer. After that it took another 30 mins for our dinner. Ridiculous!! All we kept getting were apologies but as I look around, everyone was getting their food on time! I wouldn't dare come here again. The atmosphere is okay. A little too uppity for me but I guess they can't do anything about that but they can do something about the wait times! read more

Great new Thai restaurant - more attention to detail on food than other area Thai restaurants. Food quality is excellent - a little better than the other "place" in Old Town. I have been to Thai Opal twice this week! The food is freshly made, and with a lovely presentation each time. The atmosphere is lovely, and it's quiet enough to talk and visit. We are encouraged to stay; not to rush, and enjoy the delightful meals at our own pace. The spring rolls, Crab Rangun, and Pad Woo Sen were all super good! Easy parking off NW Hwy at Matilda. Thai Opal is the real deal. Everything on the menu was superbly crafted: authentic, balanced flavors in perfect portions. We started off with the Larb (salad wrap), a dish we order at every Thai restaurant we try as a litmus test for the quality and authenticity of the food. The larb was fantastic! We asked for fresh thai chillis to give it an extra kick but overall the dish was savory and everything we had hoped for. The Tom Kha was absolutely wonderful, my husband said it's some of the best he's ever had. The coconut based soup was perfectly seasoned and really highlighted the coconut milk. The Tom Yum soup was equally delicious. With a perfect balance of flavors, this was my favorite dish I tried. Some places make the soup too sweet and it just ruins it for me. Thai Opal's Tom Yum was perfectly balanced and amazing. We also tried the spicy basil eggplant dish served with beef and white rice. This dish was also superb and satisfying. The flavors were unique and not overwhelmingly spicy, which most people prefer. We finished off our meal with an order of Mango sticky rice, which did not disappoint. Aside from the exemplary food, the service was impeccable. Staff was friendly and attentive. If you are in a huge rush, let them know, as the cook likes to take the time to craft wonderful dishes for patrons to enjoy instead of just pumping them out for the masses. The location is quiet and unassuming, as I've come to expect in some of the best eateries in Dallas and worth the trip to experience some wonderful food. This is the best Thai restaurant we've found and it will definitely be our new go-to. read more

Every time I come into this restaurant, the waitress makes me feel SO uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure she does it on purpose. The service she provides is nice enough but she always feels the need to point out features about my face and not shut up about it. But the food is really good, just don't take it to go, they skimp it out really horribly. I tried taking it to go to avoid the awkward waitress and got the tamarind duck and all I got were duck skins. No meat. That's not appetizing. read more

While I stand by my original review of those particular dishes I have managed to find some yummy alternatives like Spicy Basil Noodles, Tom Kha soup and Masaman curry. And other than that particular time I mentioned in my previous review, we've had great customer service. So they get an upgrade. If only they would work on their Pad See Eew & Pad Thai; I'd go up another star! read more

Diamond in the rough! Beautiful little restaurant with great vibe in the dining room. To go, I ordered Chicken Panang Curry ($9), with Fresh Spring Rolls ($5), and it was delicious, plus leftovers for tomorrow. The fresh spring rolls were average, but the dipping sauce was amazing - like drinkable! The fifth star is because the veggies in the curry had a great variety, with clear attention to detail. The cucumber had decorative cuts, the peppers were green, AND yellow, AND red, and there was broccoli and baby corn ... I was really impressed with how much veg came with. The chicken was thin-sliced white meat, which I prefer when not cooked myself (shout out to dark meat, but any fatty/chewy lumps ruin my day.) The curry was served in a sealed plastic container, so I wasn't worried about spilling anything on the way home. High five for good to go service! PS: Yes BYOB :-) read more

Very basic! Why has everyone given it 5 stars?????? Came from the Preston Royal area where we don't have just a lot of choices for restaurants. Not worth the drive! If we are going to drive - there are tons of better Thai restaurants out there. BYOB a plus - but that wont last - they have applied for a liquor license. It was just ok! Ordered spice level 3 - and was adding extra spice- Just mediocre. Everything was bland. read more

The yellow curry and panang curry were really good. The fresh rolls were a little disappointing, not enough herbs, mostly cheap lettuce and the peanut sauce was thinned down. I'll order again but just not get the rolls. read more

I asked for a gift certificate for our troubles/their error, and she refused, still with no apology. See you never again, Thai Thai, for double charging us and doing the bare minimum (not even an apology) to address their "mistake."

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!! Seriously y'all... My husband and I placed a takeout order through Yelp, paid for our food, and then he went to go pick it up. When he got there the manager had our food ready but REFUSED to give it to him because she didn't know which company fulfilled the order with yelp because she didn't receive the payment from them yet. But mind you she had our order ready, so clearly she could see we had ordered and paid for our food! He showed her our receipt and the payment and she even had a copy of the receipt and the order but would not let him leave. We couldn't even get our money back. She literally told my husband "you sit, you aren't going anywhere". I had to drive up to the restaurant and speak with her. I'm sorry but HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO FULFILLS YOUR COMPANY'S ORDER??? Also, how is it our problem as the customer?? And HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET OFF TELLING A PAYING CUSTOMER THEY CANT LEAVE WITH THE FOOD THEY PAID FOR?? I understand that not receiving the payment yet from the third party company is frustrating, BUT THATS NOT OUR FAULT!! After we pay, and we have a receipt confirming our payment, the issue is now between you and the company that fulfills your orders. It is not our fault. If you can't trust that company then maybe don't use them to fulfill your damn orders!! We give you our money, don't you dare tell us we can't leave with our food. The only reason we finally left is because my sweet husband called the company who fulfills their Yelp order (how he was able to figure out who it was and the MANAGER at Thai opal couldn't is beyond me) and had them confirm to the manager at Thai opal that, yes, we paid for the order that the receipt we had and that Thai opal had already confirmed. The manager was super rude to my husband and I, and tbh the food was super bland and not good. We have eaten here before and it was ok, but I will never go here again, and I would suggest you do the same. Horrible horrible customer service. Beyond disappointed. Also the manager didn't try at all to make anything better. Never did she apologize for the massive inconvenience or anything. read more

This is my first yelp review. I had to write something about this hidden gem. Location is a little secret since its behind a big Tex-Mex restaurant so its pretty difficult to see. However, once you find it, like me, you'll fall in love. During lunch, Susan always gives out complimentary eggrolls. Service is always fast since I do need to head back into work fast. I always order the special, basil eggplant with chicken. It is amazing! It takes all I got to not lick the plate and make a fool out of myself. During dinner, I try new things, the peanut sauce is really yummy and today, I had the whole fish. And wow!! Presentation was phenomenal. And it tasted even better than it looked. It seems their busiest hour, around 7:30, deliveries do take longer. However, I always order around 6 or 6:30 and it takes about 20 minutes and food is always fresh but it's not the same as eating it there where it won't be in a box. Dining in is definitely a better choice. Service is always splendid. They really take care of my every want and need. As soon as I want something, like water or chopsticks, they always hurry to the rescue. There really is nothing bad I can say about this place. I love it. Good job Thai Opal. read more

HORRIBLE! I ordered a takeout order on Yelp (pre-paid online) and when I went to pick it up the manager had my food ready but would not give it to me because she didn't know which third party company fulfills their Yelp orders and the payment hadn't gone through to them yet. This woman had the audacity to tell me I had to sit and could not leave with my food, although I had a receipt and had clearly paid. What kind of business doesn't know who fulfills their orders? If you have an issue with Yelp, then maybe, and this is just a thought, DON'T PUT YOUR BUSINESS ON YELP! The fact that you had my order ready and could clearly see that I paid, but had an issue with the third party company that YOU hired to fulfill your orders and had the nerve to make me, the customer who gave you money, basically be held hostage at your restaurant and catch all kinds of attitude from you is quite honestly the most abhorrent customer service I've ever encountered. I've never written a review before but just wanted to warn others about the horrible service I received here. Will NEVER be coming back. read more

We started with the crab rangoons, which were crispy and creamy--solid 8/10. My wife ordered the Pad Thai chicken, which was decent but could've used a bit more salt and flavor--6/10. The spicy basil noodles with beef were a highlight. I asked for 4-star spice, though it wasn't quite as hot as expected--still a solid 8/10 on taste.
