Authentic dishes, wonderful staff and a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere makes Thai Opal a must-visit restaurant. After multiple visits and sampling numerous offerings on the menu it is apparent that the owner and staff are as passionate about the preparation of their dishes as they are about their service. Each dish is prepared in the traditional manner, seasoned, sauced and spiced perfectly. The soups are excellent, flavorful broths with large portions of vegetables and meats. The atmosphere is casual with a contemporary flair. Entrees are healthy portions and authentically reflect the flavors of their indigenous regions. It's currently BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorite libation along for the ride. The prices are reasonable, the portions generous, and the staff and service exemplary. Thai Opal delivers an outstanding dining experience and should be on your short list of must-visit restaurants in Dallas. read more

We order take-out here and usually get the spicy basil glass noodles, duck curry, or spicy basil eggplant. It is delicious! They have always gotten our order right, and we've never had to wait. I really should try dining in at some point as the restaurant looks very romantic and the waiters/waitresses seem attentive. read more

Since moving from the Bay Area, my husband and I have struggled to find quality Asian food in Dallas. I heard about Thai Opal from a friend at work who gave it two thumbs up. My husband and I both agreed that the food was affordable and delicious. The presentation was delicate and thoughtful. I really enjoyed the fried curry rice and pad thai. The cushions and pillows for sitting added nicely to the Asian feel of the decor. The restaurant was short staffed on the night we visited because some employees had unexpectedly become ill. This is a family-run restaurant and the owner let us know that there could be a wait in advance, and she apologized and was attentive in her customer service. She really went above and beyond. My husband and I really enjoyed our time at Thai Opal and are grateful we heard about this lovely gem in Dallas. I'm sure we will be eating there again soon! read more

Terrible service! We called in for a delivery order and we're told it would take 45min to 1 hour for delivery. 1.25 hours later, I called and was told it was out for delivery and would be 15-20 more minutes. 20 minutes later they call us asking for payment when we had already provided a credit card with the initial order that was placed 1 hour and 45 minutes earlier. Lady told us it would be another 15-20 min. We ate dinner (not from there) at nearly 10pm tonight! This is not the first time we've had bad service with this place, but it is certainly the last. Do NOT recommend! read more

Yum!!! Food is excellent. Best fried rice so far in dallas. Great curry and pad Thai. People are nice and it is fast.

hi all, Yumi!! Yesterday, I saw a new Thai Restaurant in our neighboorhood; I was there for a dinner; the food taste great, very warm plus customer service exceed expectations. I gave a cinco (five starts) to Opal & the guys that work there.. Welcome to Lakehighlands Ernie C;-) read more

Delicious delivery. I was visiting my bff and since I was working from "home" and she didn't have NO TYPE FOOD in the house, I decided to order. I love Thai food and wasn't disappointed. The veggie panang curry and papaya salad were on point. Delivery was fast and easy through Eat 24. My only complaint is that my $24.99 order wasn't rounded up to meet the $25 minimum . Anyway, this trip is one of what I'm sure will be several Dallas visits and Thai Opal is on the eat list...along with pretty much any place that sells ribs . Getchu some. read more

I'm writing this review based on take out so maybe it's better when you dine in. I wanted to try this based on the yelp reviews but I was disappointed in my meal. I ordered the spring rolls, pad Thai and Thai opal fried rice. I guess I was confused that the chicken in the Thai opal fried rice was fried and not mixed into the fried rice. It lacked flavor. I had to add soy sauce and hot sauce to the rice. The spring rolls were crispy so that was fine. The pad Thai was disappointing. This might have been the worst pad Thai I've had. It was lacking any sauce, the noodles were completely stuck together, and not much flavor depth. I gave it two stars because the food came in a timely manner (faster than the estimated time) and the driver was very nice. read more

The food here is fantastic. I've had the spring rolls, crab Rangoon, summer rolls, pot stickers, Tom yum chicken soup, green curry, pad Thai, pad see eew, and spicy basil noodle. Everything was delicious. Favorites are the Tom yum chicken soup and the spicy basil noodle. You can't go wrong here. I've only ever gotten food to go, but the girls who work here are so sweet while I wait. Everything is so fresh. Best of all, is the chicken. I'm very picky about my chicken, and it's always fresh white chicken breast. read more

This is a revision of a one-star review because I can't slam the restaurant over the behavior of contractors. Apparently the restaurant has had a difficult time with some delivery drivers parking in the handicap area. My wife, who is horribly handicapped from a stroke, couldn't get into the car and one of them actually *argued* with me until I threatened to go interrupt a police officer who was eating dinner. Then he moved. The management apparently took action and Dallas Police is monitoring the situation. Food is actually quite good. Best Thai we've had and we eat Thai alot. read more

UPDATE, I've ordered several times since my last review. Their food is pretty authentic and amazingly delicious. Yellow Curry Tofu and Spicy Basil Noodles with Egg and Vegetables are what we usually order. The food is consistent and flavorful. I'll continue to support them and dine from this establishment! A+ read more

My hubby and I ordered delivery from here last night. We both got the Tom Kha noodle soup. It was delicious, but it wasn't the best Tom Kha I've ever had, but good nonetheless. The only complaint I have is that they said it would take 30 to 40 mins but it actually took an hour and 20 minutes. Will probably order from here every now and then. read more

The food was decent. I've had better and more authentic thai food. I ordered the chicken curry and summer rolls. First, it took about 20 mins before someone took our order and brought us water. Then it took 45 mins to get our appetizer. After that it took another 30 mins for our dinner. Ridiculous!! All we kept getting were apologies but as I look around, everyone was getting their food on time! I wouldn't dare come here again. The atmosphere is okay. A little too uppity for me but I guess they can't do anything about that but they can do something about the wait times! read more

I have never had duck curry before. It is absolutely delicious. I eat here twice a week. The green curry is quite awesome as well. Such good food and a friendly place to spend an hour. read more

One of the best places for Thai in East Dallas. I believe it's still BYOB too but you may want to call and check.

Great food! Try Curry Roasted Duck. Very tasty and juicy. The owner is so nice and service is very welcoming.

Great new Thai restaurant - more attention to detail on food than other area Thai restaurants. Food quality is excellent - a little better than the other "place" in Old Town. Don't let the location fool you. I have eaten here twice in 9 days (panang curry, basil eggplant, chicken larb...all very good). read more

I've been there for lunch 3 times and each time it was very, very good. The curry's are some of the best I've ever tasted. Great Orange Chicken and Thai Basil, too. Give them a try. You'll be a fan, too! read more

I have been to Thai Opal twice this week! The food is freshly made, and with a lovely presentation each time. The atmosphere is lovely, and it's quiet enough to talk and visit. We are encouraged to stay; not to rush, and enjoy the delightful meals at our own pace. The spring rolls, Crab Rangun, and Pad Woo Sen were all super good! Easy parking off NW Hwy at Matilda. I will be back next week. Don't keep this a secret! read more

Thai Opal is the real deal. Everything on the menu was superbly crafted: authentic, balanced flavors in perfect portions. We started off with the Larb (salad wrap), a dish we order at every Thai restaurant we try as a litmus test for the quality and authenticity of the food. The larb was fantastic! We asked for fresh thai chillis to give it an extra kick but overall the dish was savory and everything we had hoped for. The Tom Kha was absolutely wonderful, my husband said it's some of the best he's ever had. The coconut based soup was perfectly seasoned and really highlighted the coconut milk. The Tom Yum soup was equally delicious. With a perfect balance of flavors, this was my favorite dish I tried. Some places make the soup too sweet and it just ruins it for me. Thai Opal's Tom Yum was perfectly balanced and amazing. We also tried the spicy basil eggplant dish served with beef and white rice. This dish was also superb and satisfying. The flavors were unique and not overwhelmingly spicy, which most people prefer. We finished off our meal with an order of Mango sticky rice, which did not disappoint. Aside from the exemplary food, the service was impeccable. Staff was friendly and attentive. If you are in a huge rush, let them know, as the cook likes to take the time to craft wonderful dishes for patrons to enjoy instead of just pumping them out for the masses. The location is quiet and unassuming, as I've come to expect in some of the best eateries in Dallas and worth the trip to experience some wonderful food. This is the best Thai restaurant we've found and it will definitely be our new go-to. read more

See all

Every time I come into this restaurant, the waitress makes me feel SO uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure she does it on purpose. The service she provides is nice enough but she always feels the need to point out features about my face and not shut up about it. But the food is really good, just don't take it to go, they skimp it out really horribly. I tried taking it to go to avoid the awkward waitress and got the tamarind duck and all I got were duck skins. No meat. That's not appetizing. read more

Great food and service. Love that it's BYOB. There's a Fiesta Mart next door with all of the Mexican macros if your forget to bring something. read more

Only have been here once. I had the green curry and the coconut soup (tom yum gai) and it was delicious! Would definitely go back. Remember it is BYOB! Service was friendly, a little slow but worth it. Was not in a rush. read more

Love this place. Great food, great service, fair prices, easy parking. Plus it's BYOB so a bottle of wine from home saves a few bucks.

What a neighborhood gem. Food is fresh and delicious. Service is gracious and lovely. Ambience is quiet and elegant. The specials board always offers something interesting and tasty. Susan encourages us to be adventuresome and we have never been disappointed. We wish her and her employees great success. read more

Diamond in the rough! Beautiful little restaurant with great vibe in the dining room. To go, I ordered Chicken Panang Curry ($9), with Fresh Spring Rolls ($5), and it was delicious, plus leftovers for tomorrow. The fresh spring rolls were average, but the dipping sauce was amazing - like drinkable! The fifth star is because the veggies in the curry had a great variety, with clear attention to detail. The cucumber had decorative cuts, the peppers were green, AND yellow, AND red, and there was broccoli and baby corn ... I was really impressed with how much veg came with. The chicken was thin-sliced white meat, which I prefer when not cooked myself (shout out to dark meat, but any fatty/chewy lumps ruin my day.) The curry was served in a sealed plastic container, so I wasn't worried about spilling anything on the way home. High five for good to go service! PS: Yes BYOB :-) read more

Took my family here this past weekend for the first time. Everyone was impressed with the food and loved everything they ordered. The service was perfect and the staff members were kind and helpful. Thai Opal, you never disappoint!! read more

The best Thai food in Dallas. If you're still eating Ginger Thai or Royal thai, you are missing out!!! The drunken noodles (pad Kee mao) are the best I've had. read more

Don't know what vegan food is; once I explained the food was good. Don't like to explain and have people argue with me what is vegan.

This place was simply outstanding. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Great sized portions. Ambience was superb. I will definitely be returning. Make sure you try the Tom Yum soup. Its delicious. read more

Very basic! Why has everyone given it 5 stars?????? Came from the Preston Royal area where we don't have just a lot of choices for restaurants. Not worth the drive! If we are going to drive - there are tons of better Thai restaurants out there. BYOB a plus - but that wont last - they have applied for a liquor license. It was just ok! Ordered spice level 3 - and was adding extra spice- Just mediocre. Everything was bland. read more
