Just moved back to Denver and had a hankering for Tom yum soup and spring roll. Decided to try this place bc I wasn't dressed for upscale as I was coming home from exercising. Although the server was polite as they were closing in 20 minutes, I could sense she was trying to close up ...when I asked if I could just eat it here quickly, I thought she couldn't hear me when she repeated my question but said instead, "you would like it to go?" I said "fine no problem I can eat it outside", even though another couple were eating entrees...so asked if I could just get the soup to go, judging the spring roll might be too much for them to accommodate. So I stood there for about ten minutes while I waited even though I was so tired and just wanted a glass of water and to sit... she had been cleaning tables and a majority of chairs were upside down on top. And I, the relentless people pleaser, dared not to ask. So the female chef came and handed me the soup to go, I went up the stairs and outside on a dirty table for public to finally rest and eat. But alas, this soup was actually despicable. The overbearing sweetness from what tasted like ketchup in the soup, the lack of acid , not a waft of kefir lime, nor a blast of lemongrass... not a piece of of either but one small bitter chard of galangal. Total 'Trinity' loss. I had higher hopes although not the greatest, and felt incredibly let down by the lack of hospitality followed by an olfactory nightmare. Will I be back? Maybe on a Friday afternoon and only order what other reviewers rave about. But it will take some time for me to recoup from this soup fiasco. I was on a mission, and apparently it was impossible. Sadly I had a belly ache then meandered down to the cheesecake for some mini smashies and a slice of Godiva Togo. Good service overall. I had a quick lunch of the the noodles witch were a little bit on the greasy side. It seemed like they have a steady stream of patrons which is good. A little spot downstairs of a building. You wouldn't think anything of it jut the food was great. We got there about 10 minutes before their kitchen closed but we didn't feel rushed at all. Our server refilled my water 3 times. I ordered chicken Penang curry medium and my grind ordered chicken pad Thai. Both of our meals were very yummy. Pretty solid 4 stars. I wasn't a huge fan of the sushi rolls, they were just okay and sweet, but the spicy hamachi appetizer was excellent. I also really enjoyed their Khao Soi, which had great flavor. The Thai iced coffee was a bit too sweet for my taste, but still enjoyable. The restaurant is located in the lower level of downtown Denver and has a very open, inviting ambiance. The food came out fairly quickly, which I appreciated. Aside from the sushi, the Larb salad was also just so-so. That said, I'd still consider coming back to try a few other dishes. Happy eating! read more

Went here because it is super close to my hotel! I got khao soi with tofu and it's not bad! It's hard to find places that offer vegetarian khao soi! My friend got pad Thai combo and he said it was okay! I saw the portion size and I would say it's good for the price. The price is definitely on the higher side but it's located at the very touristy place so I guess that makes sense! My biggest issue with this place is the servers! We also went there at peak dinner time with so many people coming back from the conference. They seemed really busy but like it shouldn't justify them being so impatient and mean! The guy was worse than the lady! When he brought our food, he asked who ordered the pad Thai. I misheard him and initially said yes, but as he was about to set it down, I realized it was actually my friend's and corrected myself. He responded with a loud "uhhhh!" in a really annoyed tone. Like Sir, it's really not that deep When the lady came and collected the bill, she said "are you ready?" I was like "yeah thank you!" and handed it to her. This restaurant checked all the marks. I liked the convenience in location to my conference hotel, the chill vibe when you walk in, the kindness of our waitress and importantly our yummy food. Found this place by accident and went to dinner here last night-- so happy to have found it! Our waitress was so quick and incredibly nice-- truly she was the only person running tables and serving and did it wonderfully! The food was delicious- our group of five tried the ginger chicken, pad Thai and drunken noodles (chicken and shrimp). Everyone said their dinner was delicious and had no complaints! The spice levels go from no spice to Thai spice. I tried the "hot" and it was just perfect; if you are sensitive to spice, you might want to try the no spice or mild at your own risk! Came here before the Josh Johnson show at the Paramount this weekend. Not sure if they were short-staffed or something, but service was rather brusque. I tried the Khao Soi, which I knew wasn't going to be quite as I expected since they offered a choice of meats (at my favorite Thai restaurant it is always chicken on the bone that has been long-simmered) but it was okay. Glad that they had the traditional pickles, egg noodles, and crispy noodle topping. The chicken was white meat that had been quick-cooked, so neither tender nor flavorful. My friend had Thai fried rice with tofu, which she said was all right. Dinner was serviceable and fast enough that we had no trouble making our show - so that rates A-OK in my book. read more

I liked the wontons on the crab Rangoon. The filling was tasty, but neither cheesy nor crabby enough. The tom kha gai was oddly thick, very salty, and not terribly coconut-ty. We ordered the pad thai mild spicy, it had a nice spicy flavor but it was too sweet for my preference. The chicken wing was crispy and juicy! I wasn't a fan of the ambiance because it's located in the lower level and didn't have any windows. It was decorated well with laterns and string lights. But i am just a natural light kind of person. I did a to go order right at 4:00 PM when Thai Lanna opened. Friendly and incredibly fast service. The drunken noodles with 6 plump tail shrimp and perfect ratio of bell peppers, broccoli, onions & bamboo shoots was reasonably priced at $16.95 . Medium spicy was just the right amount of heat to enjoy the garlicy sweetness of the sauce and the delicate fragrance of the basil. The flat rice noodles was cooked to al dente/ QQ/ chewiness that carried the sauce well. I find that shrimp texture is a hit or miss with a lot of places in general, but it was cooked to the perfect bouncy texture and into perfect little C's. Overall the dish was delicious. So why 4 stars instead of 5. The 4 stars is solely based on the dish itself. But it also comes down to personal preference . 1st star - You get a good portion of food for the price point. 2nd star- There is ample noodles to vegetables to proteins ratio. 3rd star- Flavor was spot on.... The sweet, salty, spicy, and sour well balanced. 4th star- Texture cooked to perfectly, QQ noodles and bouncy shrimp. The reason why it doesn't have the 5th star was because of personal preference. The basil added to the dish could have been roughly chopped to release more basil flavor. It was just 3 whole stems with 4 to 5 leaves just tossed in. And I know that the tail on shrimp is a choice, but I feel like its an additional step for me to have to peel it off. read more

The food came quick but felt needed more flavouring as it tended to blend in and not stand out like other similar dishes I've had. Was downtown and wanting something different from the bar scene and usual steakhouses I wander into often. Thai Lanna is within the 16th Street Mall around several eateries. Parking is as brave as you want to be about parallel spaces. Metered parking is a lot closer than the parking garages. It's downstairs when you walk in from the street level of the mall. Unpretentious and just authentic Thai service and food. Service is naturally friendly and unobstrusive even with her being the only server working on a Saturday evening. We ordered the papaya salad (which would be super elevated if they offered salted crab) but was good. Ordered level 3 but suggest 4 if you want it more spicy. We also had the Tom Yum soup with shrimp as level 3. Cannot gush enough about how amazing they married the lemongrass and tamarind flavors together. My all time go to is the red curry because I love bamboo shoots. Level 3 on this is perfect spice level for us calientes and the adventures wimps. It's one star short because during the winter she doesn't serve the mango sticky rice because it is not as fresh and in season. My return visit will be expecting sampling of all the desserts. While there are plenty of Thai spots around the Denver metro area, the sauce won't taste the same as Thai Lanna. They feed your soul inside and out with smiles and good food. It has been quite a while since dining at Thai Lanna on the 16th Street last time. Was not particularly impressed at the time, but was pleasantly surprised during a recent visit. Although most of the businesses deserted the Masonic Building, but it made the place a better dining environment with less noises and traffic. The restaurant was at the basement of the building and was reasonably busy during lunch hours with many dine-in and takeout customers. The bamboo decorations made the place had a more enclosed feel and the TV was showing food program about Thailand. The menu was extensive with most of the Thai staples, but also sushi, sashimi and ramen. Ordered the Tom Yum rice noodle soup with fish. The Tom Yum soup was very tasty and authentic, probably one of the better Tom Yum soup in town. The rice noodle was soft, smooth and chewy, but not mushy. The fried fish was crispy outside and tender and juicy inside, but probably the mixed seafood with squid, scallop, shrimp and mussel would be a better combination. Ordered lunch here by convenience to the office and got the pad Thai combo hot. The combo comes with shrimp, chicken, and tofu. I was pretty disappointed because the pad Thai had literally NO sauce on it. It tasted like plain noodles. It was disappointing because with 2x the sauce i feel like it had potential. I'm hoping it was just a bad batch but based off the one interaction im not sure i would return. The hot did have a good kick to it though, but not crazy overwhelming.
