I've tried so many different Thai restaurants in Indy over the years and I can be pretty picky. Thai Issan in Westfield is my Favorite! It's located on state road 32 near Oak Ridge--right across the street from Birdie's mini golf. Pim, the proprietor, has been there almost every time I've dined in is exceptionally gracious, patient and kind. She is attentive and friendly always topping off my iced tea. We make jokes about how many refills I usually require. It's a tropical tasting black tea that I enjoy unsweetened. They have traditional Thai iced tea as well. The decor is beautiful and inviting--they are very intentional and thoughtful with the space. I usually order yellow curry or pad Thai accompanied by veggie spring rolls or the salad rolls with tofu. Tonight I ordered takeout and added the chicken satay which is also delicious! The lunch specials during the week are an amazing value! You can choose from different entrees which come with one spring roll and a mini soup or salad. Looking forward to come back for Tom Yum and Egg Drop soup during these colder months. Having lived in Thailand, our review for Thai Issan Restaurant is based on long experience. We have eaten many times at this restaurant and always enjoy the wide variety of the dishes at lunch and dinner. The Pad Thai and yellow curry are our favs, but we often choose other dishes with shrimp. The setting is agreeable with dining music and Thai decor, Pim the owner is always pleasant and explains the wide variety of flavors and ingredients. We have often introduced our friends to this special eatery and never had a bad experience. Prices are reasonable and service on site and take out is excellent. Went for lunch in Saturday and was pretty satisfied. The portions were big. Was able to get calamari with the eggplant stir fry, which my daughter loved. The food and service are top notch in this little Thai restaurant in Westfield. We stopped for lunch after a morning of running errands. The dining room is colorful with umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and other Thai decor that makes you forget that you are in a strip mall. There are only 10 tables, but they are spaced apart nicely. There is a bar in the room that serves wine, beer and saki. The room is dim with love tunes by Sinatra and Elvis playing in the background. Our server, Kyle, is all welcoming smiles as she brings us a bowl of Thai soup before we order. The soup is hot and good on this cold afternoon. They offer a dozen lunch specials. She asks it we have been in before and tell us that they have been open for two years. I order the Pad Kee Mao with Tofu, as I'm trying to eat a little healthier. Lunch comes out quickly. A small salad and egg roll are included with lunch. The egg roll is crispy and the salad fresh. There is a generous portion of Pad Kee Mao and vegetables are hot and medium spice level is perfect for me. My lunch is delicious. My husband has Pad Thai with Chicken. He said the noodles were cooked to perfection. He ate every last morsel. The hostess and Kyle kept our water glasses full and checked on us frequently. There's plenty of parking in the strip mall. This was truly one of the best meals I have ever had. We were visiting Westfield for my daughter's lacrosse tournament and happened upon Thai Isaan. It's beautiful and welcoming inside. This is not your standard Thai fare (I LOVE Thai food) with the same dishes - all the old favorites are on the menu but also some incredible dishes off the beaten path. I had a soft shell crab Panang curry - it arrived fragrant and bubbling - that was a year ago, and I'm still raving about it. It was exquisite. The proprietor (Pim) is a very nice lady who now recognizes us and greets us each time, and she knows our usual order as well. We've literally been coming here once a week for two months - the food is that good. The star of the show here is their Tom Yum soup. I don't want to get too emotional here, but this soup is truly life-altering. The ambiance is great; it's a small restaurant, and they tend to play "big band" and crooner music on the overhead speakers. What a welcome addition to Westfield. My wife and I split Chicken Pad Thai, Combination Fired Rice and Crab Rangoon. Last things first. Wow. There's actually crab in the Rangoon. If nothing else, come here for that alone. It's worth it. Both main dishes are awesome and quickly prepared with large pieces of protein. The combo fried rice had three large shrimp, with tails on. My wife doesn't like her Thai food very spiced and we were splitting the two dishes, so we got it without spices. I can't help in the heat department. My only complaint is the pricing. It's more expensive than I feel it should be which keeps me from frequenting it weekly. $14 for chicken Pad Thai and $19 for combination fried rice seemed expensive for the only seafood being shrimp. This little gem is located right off SR 32 and SR 31, my friends introduced me to this place and they have been going here for a long time. I have had Thai Isaan a handful of times and I have yet to be disappointed! I usually get my usual which is Chicken Pad Thai with a level 3 spice. They are very quick to get all the food prepared and served (both Dine-In and To Go). The people who work there are also very nice. Along with my pad Thai I also get their Crab Rangoons which are AMAZING! I do know that my friends have ordered a lot more of the menu than I have and they have never been let down. I stopped in on Friday ten minutes before they were due to close so I made a choice quickly and chose Pad Thai Noodles with chicken as my protein and with medium heat. Even though my drive home was about 15 minutes; the food was still hot when I got home. It was delicious! I could not eat it all and saved it for the next day to finish. My family and I came here 3 times over the past couple of months and I was torn how many stars to give it as I do not enjoy it as much as my wife. I would probably go 2 stars, and she would go 4 stars so therefore I elected to meet in the middle. For me personally, a Thai restaurant varies wildly as I think some people open one up knowing that so many people love Thai food. However, it is not always made well even though it is roughly 10 standard recipes across all Thai restaurants. This one missed the mark for me to consider it good. With 7 other Thai restaurants within 5 miles of this one, it would be very hard for me to come back here unless my wife forced me. For her, there is a specific dish they make here that she loves and isn't really made at other Thai places. It is a Thai salad dish with a vinegar based dressing that I admit is good, but not for me as a main dish. I prefer to judge based on their Drunken Noodles, Pad-Se-Ew and Curries. All of which were just ok. Service on the other hand was very friendly, however slow. It seems like it is just the owner? (maybe a relative) that runs the front of the house, but it is just her to manage roughly 10 tables. read more
