A hidden gem off 82nd St! It sits back in an older strip mall, next to a fireworks store. The interior is very nice, with comfortable booths and tables. The first time I came here was with a friend who was staying in a nearby hotel. She invited me to go to dinner, and said this was her favorite Thai place in Indy. After my first visit I was happy to add Thai Orchid to my Thai restaurant rotation. My favorite meal here is the Eggplant Delight. I love the way the chef cooks the eggplant, and it has always been perfect. Today my friend ordered the Shrimp Volcano, and I of course ordered Eggplant Delight. We had ordered spring rolls for an appetizer, and they were crispy on the outside and very tasty. Service is excellent. read more

If you are looking for an affordable lunch spot, and love Thai food, I recommend Thai Orchid! They have a shortened menu for lunch, and every entree is $10.99. With your entree, you also get a bowl of soup, small salad and small egg roll. It's a great deal for the amount of food you get and everything was delicious. We ordered the Thai Fried Rice and the Pad Thai, both of which I would recommend. The interior is clean and nicely decorated. Our Indy Vegan/Vegetarian group came to Thai Orchid one Friday night for dinner, and it was an experience. The food was wonderful I will say that, but the service was very slow and not up to par. We were a large group of people, and there was only one server working on the floor, so it took a while for us to receive our food, and to get refills on water. The server was very slow as well and he could not remember our orders, so it took longer for us to get our food when it did come out since the server had to place the order with the right person. I did notice another patrons in the restaurant received their food quicker when it was just two people in the party, so I'm guessing since we were a large group of people, that is why the food took longer to get out to us. I ordered the tom yuah soup which was a coconut soup with veggies and the Pad Thai with chicken as my main entree. The coconut soup was amazing and incredible! It was probably the best soup I have ever had in a Thai restaurant in quite a while. The flavors of coconut milk and veggies were a perfect combination. It tasted like pure heaven in my mouth. The Pad Thai with chicken was wonderful as well. The texture of the noodles was perfect and a great combo of flavors with the chicken. The taste was a wonderful party in my mouth. The only disappointment was the service for this experience. If you come here for dinner, I would not come with a large group of people, because you will not get good service. If you come with one another person, then the service will be better. The ambiance is nice and cozy for a Thai restaurant, but not your traditional Chinese/Asian decor that you would find in other restaurants. It was still nice and I found the ambiance to be relaxing at Thai Orchid. All in all, the food was amazing at Thai Orchid, but the service was very slow and lacking a little professionalism. I know for next time, I will not come here with a large group of people, and just come with one other person. I will receive better service this way. I travel the USA in search of great Thai food. This one isn't it. The lunch price is very fairly priced. It comes with lukewarm soup with a few strings of noodles, a barely warmed crispy spring roll, a small salad and your entree of choice. The wait time was a bit long considering there wasn't anyone in the restaurant waiting for food. The curry was more on the salty aside and barely any hint of coconut. I ordered pad thai tofu several months ago and couldn't believe it was the same place. No flavor, very oily, literally no spice even though i ordered medium hot. Tried again yesterday thinking maybe was just an off night for chef and got pad kee mao. Terrible again. They forgot to put any chili flakes on it at medium hit!! I picked up an order to go recently with my sister. The interior was surprisingly atmospheric considering the exterior look of the building! I was impressed. We ordered a good bit of food for the fam, and it was ready to go when they said it would be. I had the Tom Kha soup, which is my Thai go-to lately. Theirs was pretty good! I normally don't leave reviews, but this was serious. We were having dinner at Thai Orchid when my boyfriend bit into his food and found sharp metal pieces in it. It could have seriously hurt him. We told the staff right away, but they barely apologized and didn't seem concerned at all. No offer to comp the meal, no real explanation just shrugged it off. I came to Thai Orchid for the first time today with some coworkers. It's definitely a hidden gem in Castleton! It will not be my last time there! I went for lunch. They have about 10 choices for lunch, which is great. Sometimes restaurants offer only one or two lunch options and you're out of luck if you don't like them. Not here. Then once you select your lunch option, you select the kind of meat and spice level. To complete your meal you get a spring roll, salad, and the most amazing coconut soup I've ever had! The pad thai had zero flavor. I ordered mild because I am not into super spicy things. As I ordered (through door dash), I saw there was peanut sauce as a side. They were charging $1.99 for it so I figured maybe that was for extra sauce. Apparently not. This had absolutely NO flavor. I've had pad thai from several other restaurants that were incredibly flavorful, this was awful. Besides the few bites of the noodles I took to figure out what was going on with my pad thai, the only thing I ate from it was the shrimp, hence no shrimp in the pic. I would give a one star review, but the only thing that saved it from being a one star was the spring rolls. Even then, I ordered spring rolls with chicken and got the vegetable spring rolls instead. Thai Orchid has been my primary Thai restaurant for more than a decade. But, over the past year or more, not so much. Quality and quantity have both slipped. Recently we ordered beef and broccoli and it was nothing less than terrible. Tough and tasteless beef, over-cooked broccoli in a flavorless broth. Red curry is still great, but always short on bamboo. This may seem like a little too fine a point, but anyone who spends as much time with red curry as I do, notices these things. My family eats here about every six months when we want some reliable Thai food. I get the Seafood Madness which is always sizzling hot and delicious. My husband usually gets the green curry, which is always good. They get their spice levels correct which I know from trying a tiny bite of the Thai hot level. Phew! First, thanks to the restaurant for being open on Labor Day. I was out exploring the northeast side and was getting hungry. So glad I used the bookmark feature on Yelp to help me find this place! And it is easy to find. Located just south of 82nd Street, there is a convenient stop light at their entrance which takes out the worry of being located on such a busy road just west of the interstate. Plenty of parking outside in their private lot too, so I grabbed a spot and headed in. The dining room is large and open. There were booths along the sides and larger tables in the middle. I was greeted and seated promptly, brought a glass of ice water and my order of Jasmine tea. I decided to go with a lunch special ($7.99) that included a spring roll with sweet dipping sauce, soup (warm coconut), and side salad (ginger dressing). As usual for my first time at a Thai place, I go with the Pad See Ewe to be able to compare it to the other Thai places I've been to. The soup was brought out almost immediately. The coconut flavor was somewhat sweet and the temperature was between warm/hot which brought out the flavor while not being so hot that I had to wait. I could eat it right away. There were a few small veggies bites in the soup as well though I couldn't see them through the opaque white liquid. I recognized some other Yelpers in the dining room and as soon as I returned to my booth, my entree arrived. The spring roll was veggie filled and had a really good flavor with just a hint of heat in the sweet sauce. It was a little less than crisp, but not soggy. I assume the steaming veggies inside had something to do with it. The salad was small and because all the dressing is on top, it is hard to get a balance of dressing and veggies in each bite. The Pad See Ewe comes with meat and tofu options and also five levels of heat. Medium was listed as the second heat level from the bottom, so I went with chicken and medium. The noodles were wide and flat and looked house made. Cooked just right. The heat level at medium was immediately noticeable (I could see the red pepper flakes) but though I was aware of the heat, it didn't make my sinuses react. So for me, that was perfect. I don't eat to challenge my tolerance levels. I eat to find wonderful taste and this level allowed me to enjoy the sweet and savory flavors paired with the moist chicken and cooked veggies. The sauce that the dish covers all the items without becoming heavy and thick. No pooling. Just another fine meal from this restaurant that also has a sister business in Plainfield. Water was topped off and my bill was brought out promptly even though my waiter was tied up serving someone on the other side of the room. This is one of my favorite Thai restaurant in Indy. Parking is easy. It's located in the strip mall. It's close to off the 82nd exit on highway. Service is always good. Food is consistently good. I always enjoy my food. I tried crabmeat fried rice for the first time at this location and it was really good. Many other places are too salty or too little crabmeat. But this time, it was really good. If you go during busy hour during lunch, waitresses might get to you little late to take an order but you get seated as soon as you walk in. Overall I enjoy going to this restaurant during lunch because lunch specials are very reasonable price. read more

Got lunch from here. I know a couple of people that do like this place. I thought it was okay, nothing too special, but I did like my food. It's like any other Thai food place. My favorite that I tried was the spring rolls. Pad prik khing was good, but the green beans have been a bit softer. I do like a crunchy green bean, but not too much crunch. The salad it came with was only a few pieces, so it could have just not bee. Put in my bag. I'm not sure of the soup that they give you. I think it was coconut based. Looking for a place that was open at 4:15pm for an early dinner one Friday when my family was in town. Mom wanted Thai, so I pulled up my Yelp app and realized this place was just around the corner...and open! Once again the Yelp Gods were smiling upon us. We arrived at Thai Orchid around 4:15pm and were the only table there for a short while which meant we kind of ended up having 2 servers (this becomes important later, so hang in there). We got a complimentary bowl of cabbage-type slaw topped with peanuts to start soon after we sat down. Our drink orders were taken and we looked through the menu. My mom and brother both opted for the Drunken Noodles - mom with pork, spiced mild and Bro went vegetarian and Thai hot. I opted for the Tofu Delight medium-hot. All of our food was prepared well, hot, fresh, and tasted amazing. My brother (AKA king of spice) sweated through the Thai Hot -- and added more spice from the condiments in little crocks they brought to the table. I fell in love with the spicy sweetness of my Tofu delight prepared medium hot, and will step up the heat next time. The tofu in my dish was cooked perfectly and they had the foresight to prop it up on top of the veggies so it didn't get soggy swimming in the sauce. Portion sizes were excellent -- and a good value as most entrees are priced around $10.99. We had a pleasant experience our first go round and didn't feel rushed at all. We were presented with a check from one server, and I placed my credit card inside and waited. We were then presented with a second check from the second waiter -- for the same amount so that was good, just odd. We sat and chatted for about 15 more minutes as my husband swung in to say hello after work. We got up to leave and I didn't realize they had not brought back my card nor slips to sign. One of our waiters brought me back my card while we were still outside, so I went back in and closed out our ticket. Of note, I took my left overs for lunch the following Monday, and they were still as tasty. I loved the tofu dish so much so that I convinced the Hubs to go back in twice in the same week! I got the Tofu Delight again my second visit and went for the veggie Drunken Noodles on my third visit. All really tasty. I will say we did get the Salad Roll with shrimp app, and these rolls are good, but less like their vietnamese cousins as these Thai rolls are aptly named -- there is a BUNCH of lettuce and only a few rice noodles. Kind of like a reverse/inside-out version of the Vietnamese spring rolls we are used to. Each time we have been in, service was interesting -- but not a deal breaker. One particular server forgot our drinks until our meals arrived on one occasion and we waited for our meals while the table behind us ordered, finished, and paid another time. Just be prepared for a wait -- or not -- and enjoy the food. Obviously, we will go back. That Tofu Delight is calling my name already...and I heard that the crab rangoon and coconut soup are a must try. Next time. Other notables: + "Happy Hour" was written on a free-standing chalkboard inside the door when we arrived. It noted that Happy Hour is from 4-6pm daily with $2 domestic beers, $3 imports, and 20% off bottles of wine. + There is a hand-written paper sign in the window that they close to take a break from 3-4pm, but this is not reflected in their hours online anywhere, so just a heads up. read more
