The staff went above and beyond to make the night special. They surprised us with complimentary yogurt soju, a taro cake, and even sang happy birthday! The sushi chef and servers were so kind and fun they even came out to share a shot with my husband after singing to him, which made the whole experience feel like we were just celebrating with friends and family. It's rare to find a place that combines great food, warm hospitality, and such a personal touch. We left with full hearts (and stomachs!). It is also the common bright pink gassed fish--not a sign of quality. I wouldn't feed this to my cat. I ate one piece of fish without rice. The texture was grainy and gross. I figure it was a fluke and tried another piece before spitting it out. Hard pass. The salmon roe sushi was also off, and inedible. The egg sushi was water-logged and not good. Finally, their chef does not know how to make proper sushi rice. The rice should be sweet with a hint of tartness, both in balance with the rice. No harmony here--it was just slightly tart. When I complained that it was inedible the server was suspiciously defensive insisting it was "fresh." If that's true, it was not good fish from a reputable vendor. If you want sushi and you're in Redding, go to Kobe or Raw.
