Today, I went hiking and on the way back, I stopped to have a meal. I searched for a Thai restaurant on Yelp and chose one with a 4-star review called Thai House Asian Cuisine in Redding, CA. When I entered the restaurant, the staff greeted me warmly, but when I asked if they spoke Thai, they said no. Then I asked if the cook was Thai, and they said no, he is Chinese. I found the menu to be a mix of Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese dishes. I was considering leaving but decided to try a few items. I ordered three dishes: fried tofu, basil fried rice (which turned out to be more like Chinese fried rice with added basil leaves), and Khow Poon (a noodle dish with coconut milk and spices, but it was made differently and tasted strange). Although the food was quite unconventional, other customers seemed happy with their orders, and the owner seemed to have a good rapport with regular customers. It seems that some customers here might not have experienced authentic Thai food before and were not accustomed to its true flavors. The restaurant had an unusual selection of condiments, including a tamarind soup base powder, which I had never seen before. After finishing the meal, I paid and left a tip because the service was excellent, the place was clean, and they provided a unique range of condiments. My suggestion is to look for authentic restaurants when trying out dishes from different countries, as each cuisine has its distinct flavors, and not every place that claims to serve a particular cuisine can replicate the authentic taste. read more

It is a Chinese restaurant masquerading as a Thai restaurant. Every meal they prepare has tons of sugar in it. The oil they use is old oil that gives you digestive tract problems. I would have given a 0 star. Will never ever go to this Chinese restaurant again. read more

I've gone to the Thai House four times since its new management, and I've been consistently impressed. I've not had better sushi anywhere else in town, and the Thai dishes are also the best I've had in town. The Chinese dishes aren't quite as exceptional, but still among the best you can find in Redding. It's also worth mentioning that the place is very quiet and never busy when I've gone, and that translates into the food coming out very quickly. The worst Thai food we have ever had. My husband and I have eaten a lot of Thai, this was by far the worst food. We will not be going back. They don't have panang curry, which we thought was odd. We ordered red curry and pad see ew noodles, both with chicken. The chicken had a strange flavor, and was rubbery. The noodles were gross, chewy and all stuck together. Fantastic service and great food at this restaurant that has been open only 9 mo. My friend had questions about the curry and the server, whom I think is the owner, brought out a tray of all the currys for us to try. They were all delicious!! She also brought me a salad, which didn't come with my meal, simply bc my friend had one with hers. My friend had delicious pumpkin curry and I had the pad se ew which was also very good. The food was not what I was expecting. Not the authentic Thai flavor that you would normally get at a Thai restaurant. The drunken noodles we ordered did not taste anything like a Thai dish at all with a blob of sauce that looked like it was thrown on top unevenly mixed in! Food was sooooo bland! No other word to describe other than just greasyyy! Overall, the service was fast, friendly and efficient. Restaurant was very clean. It was not busy at all. New place. Clean and neat. We have eaten there twice. The lady who won/runs the place is from Beijing. Thai food is Chinese food with coconut milk in some of the dishes. Even Pad Thai is Chinese. If you are looking for Chinese food, GO ELSEWHERE. I had the General chicken, and it was so over cooked, IT WAS INEDIBLE. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken, same story, it was so over cooked, IT WAS INEDIBLE. If feeding the GARBAGE can was the point of ordering from there, then they get an A++ for the WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER. Save your money and go to Oriental Express or ANYWHERE ELSE. It's a Chinese thai restaurant. If you want good authentic Thai gored then this is not it. There Chinese food was decent. Service from the guy when we got there was horrible. When I was finally greeted, I was told to seat myself. No big issue there but I wasn't given a menu and since the server was busy setting up for a large party, I had to find one myself. I was disappointed with the lack of an actual Thai menu, it seemed only a few Thai curry's were available. The rest of the menu consisted of sushi and Chinese entrees. I found this odd given the name but was looking forward to the sushi as that was what I was searching on yelp in the first place. Although I was excited about the Thai/sushi combination and subsequently disappointed when there wasn't even sushi available. I ordered wontons and orange chicken. The wontons were good but the orange chicken came out surprisingly fast and I quickly found out why. This chicken was old and dry. I'm not sure when it was prepared seeing how I came in around 1:30, I'd assume it would be fresh given the fact they'd only been open a couple hours. I feel bad for writing this review but, I honestly don't know how they are in business. Maybe there are other decent dishes? What can I say about Thai House restaurant other than remarkable. My wife and I stopped here after a day of shopping,, looking for a hot comforting meal and boy we weren't disappointed. The outside of the restaurant is very welcoming, only to be outdone by the inside, which is beautiful and spacious. We were greeted by a lovely lady who turned out to be the owner of the establishment. Upon looking at the menu we were pleasantly surprised to see that they offered both Thai and Chinese dishes. So many delicious options at reasonable prices, but I chose the street style pork bowl and also the pad thai. My wife chose the yellow curry. Both dishes came with salad, egg roll and jasmine rice. Our salads came within minutes and were crispy and fresh with a sweet and creamy dressing. Next came came our entree's, hot and smelling so wonderful. WOW!! Everything was incredible tasting with good size portions. When the owner came over to our table to ask how we were enjoying our meal my wife in particular raved about her curry upon which the owner left and came back with little dishes of the red and green curries to try. They also were very delicious especially the green for those who like it spicy. This was hands down the best Thai food I've ever eaten and I can't wait to make the drive back to Redding from our home in Red Bluff to try some more. My family and I go to this restaurant often, especially when it was sailing boat. This is the second time this has happened. The old lady who takes orders/runs food told each of my sisters when they ordered "wow that is a lot of food" when they literally only ordered two things. The first time I was with my boyfriend a month ago and they judged our order. Really weird to criticize customers for their orders when we're spending money at their restaurant. They should be grateful we're supporting their business. The food was not good so we ended up not even eating it anyways. The old lady should keep her comments to herself. We love Thai food and decided to try the Thai House Restaurant. There are a few good to great Thai restaurants in Redding and unfortunately this isn't one of them. The food was typical Americanized cafeteria-style Asian food. Sauces were over sugary and overused, lacking in delicious subtle Thai flavors. In other words, the food tasted of canned industrial Asian sauces from Smart and Final. The egg flower soup was reminiscent of the Jolly Green Giant's niblets, with the broth tasting mostly of the liquid beneath the canned corn. Service was friendly but slow, and we sat for several minutes waiting for the bill with conspicuous amounts of uneaten food on our plates. No take-home container needed, thank you very much. Ambiance was lacking as well, with the interior looking as tired and generic as the food. All in all, a disappointing but not horrible experience. Probably fine for the bingo bus crowd, but not to our taste. Again, there are other Asian and Thai restaurants in town with delicious fresh vegetables and gourmet flavors that should be tried. read more
