Lunch for the two of us.

We were on a bike ride and in search for a nice healthy bite to eat. Because that's what you do with a bite...you eat it. This place, I believe, was once the Sailing Boat. We were greeted at the door and quickly seated in a nice window booth and given menus. They have quite an extensive menu. The staff were kind and attentive. We quickly decided on a shared plate of tofu with noodles and bean sprouts. And we order a few small bites of sushi. Well the tofu dish was incredible. It came out really hot, full of flavor and that crunchy texture on the tofu was oh so perfect. The salmon Nigiri was sweet, silky, smooth and so fresh. My wife always likes to order a California roll...and she did. We shared a beer, finished everything, settled the bill, tip generously and back to the bikes. Nicely done.

Great food - Vegetarian options available. Priced well too. Tried their Thai red curry plate and Veg chow mein. Both were equally good. The red curry plate came with a salad and a spring roll. The roll was crispy and tasted great. Great ambience, extremely polite and friendly staff.

Their service is always fantastic! The cuisine is wonderful. I love the painting behind the sushi bar. Their restaurant is clean and they have a variety of dishes to choose from. They have sushi, Chinese and Thai dishes. We have been quite a few times and are always impressed. If you haven't eaten here check it out.

Absolutely amazed! We are not from the area -- but we're moving here as soon as possible! And we were on our way out after the last 5 days. We stumbled across this page when my boyfriend was on IG. He knows my love for Japanese and Thai so he's like should we go here? Our son will always get down with miso soup! Upon walking in we noticed the open layout and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Staff greeted us promptly (within a minute). We were pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was! Just hit after hit after hit! We feel so grateful for Anne and her business because back home we have a close friendship with our Japanese restaurant owner and she is like family to us. We hope to become apart of yours as well :) You've won us as regulars! Thank you! Can't wait to be back again.

My mom and I went once for lunch and we got the sushi below. I lived the atmosphere it was clean and modern. Service was fast and they were polite. Update - we went for dinner as a group of 6. I got the same roll I got before and it was just as great! This time around we had more people who got the honey walnut shrimp and sweet and sour chicken. Both were good and the food was hot (like temp wise) which is always nice. We didn't feel like it sat for long at all.

The food was tasty. I loved the fried egg on the street green beans. Keep in mind I was very hungry, so that might influence my ratings. The street basil green beans were a recommendation from a friend and it was a good one. I dumped the bowl on my rice--not sure about the etiquette there‍--and it was nice having the juices seep in to the rice. The spring roll was good and I think they put a bit of spice in the dipping sauce. Servers were very friendly and nice. The restaurant is open and we were there at 8 pm so it was not loud. A good restaurant and I recommend trying it out.

Sushi shef special. Not sure what it was called but has the taste of laab salad except its Tuna.

Great friendly service and nice restaurant with plenty of parking. Sushi was good but the house fried rice was delicious! Thank you sushi chef Niko!

They advertised the sushi boat service on their door, but did not have it during the time window they posted. I had no expectations for great sushi and thought I'd get "ok" sushi here. Instead, It was memorable only for how bad it was. The tuna (maguro) was awful. It was inedibly grainy and did not slightly spring back when touched with gentle pressure--the sign of either low quality fish, or lack of freshness. It is also the common bright pink gassed fish--not a sign of quality. I wouldn't feed this to my cat. I ate one piece of fish without rice. The texture was grainy and gross. I figure it was a fluke and tried another piece before spitting it out. Hard pass. The salmon roe sushi was also off, and inedible. The egg sushi was water-logged and not good. Finally, their chef does not know how to make proper sushi rice. The rice should be sweet with a hint of tartness, both in balance with the rice. No harmony here--it was just slightly tart. When I complained that it was inedible the server was suspiciously defensive insisting it was "fresh." If that's true, it was not good fish from a reputable vendor. If you want sushi and you're in Redding, go to Kobe or Raw.

Hard to find the front door but once we did we were very pleased with the ambiance. Raw is a lovely space and the bar is large and looks very inviting and like a place tou could feel very comfortable having a cocktail or two. The seating is comfortable and has a relaxed vibe. The sushi was just not great. We ordered several of the special rolls that ranged in price from $22 to $29. They all tasted pretty much the same and every one of them had the same sauce. But the safest part is the tempura shrimp in the rolls tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. And instead of getting that crispy light tempura crust, it was gummy and heavy. The rice was gummy and I am not sure if it was overcooked or perhaps had too much sugar added which madeit overly sweet and congealed. We also ordered a dou le.order of the Hamachi sashimi which was fair but lacked that super rich butter flavor I crave. We were so hoping to find our go to sushi spot while visiting Raw. And I do think they have a place in the restaurant bar world. But their "place" is not for as a high end sushi restaurant. The quality is just not there. And I so wanted it to be. ‍

We ordered a variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and stir fry's. It was surprisingly pricey, but I'm told that they're comparable to other sushi places. As someone that doesn't frequent sushi restaurants, I felt like the amount of food didn't really match the prices. The main reason for removing stars was the service was lacking. We waited for over an hour before any food (we even ordered apps) hit the table. The waitress wasn't on top of keeping drinks full, or even making sure we have silverware or napkins. It was a bit of a struggle to get what we needed during our time here. Would I eat here again? Yes. Would it be my first choice? No.

We've passed this place many times before, and a while back, we even found it on Yelp listed as a Chinese restaurant nearby. For some reason, we never stopped in--until now. This weekend, we decided to finally give Tokyo Garden a shot. Now, we've tried other local spots like Grand Buffet and Golden Star. While they're fine, they tend to fall into the "meh" category--edible, but nothing to rave about. Nothing, that is, until you compare them to Tokyo Garden. Sure, you can swing by Panda Express if you're just after a quick fix, but when you want a sit-down restaurant that consistently serves food a notch above the rest, Tokyo Garden should be at the top of your list. From the moment we walked in, the place gave off a warm, welcoming environment. The décor on the walls was tasteful, the tables were covered with colorful floral designs, and the atmosphere felt both inviting and relaxed. Our waitress greeted us quickly, took our drink orders, and even brought us water while we waited--a small gesture, but one that shows thoughtfulness. Not long after, my Arnold Palmer arrived alongside my wife's Pepsi. As we browsed the menu, we landed on the Food Box Number 3, which came with Teriyaki Chicken, Miso Soup, a fresh salad, three pieces of sushi, white rice (brown rice available for just $2 more), and fried vegetables with Tempura Shrimp. But before committing to the main course, we couldn't resist starting with an appetizer--Crab Rangoons. Let me tell you, we've sampled Crab Rangoons from plenty of places, but Tokyo Garden's were next level. The exterior was perfectly crispy, the filling had that distinct, real crab flavor (not just cream cheese), and the balance of flavors was spot on. Paired with their Sweet and Sour Sauce, it was the kind of appetizer that makes you want to order another round before the main meal even arrives. Then came the main event. The Chicken Teriyaki was tender and flavorful--yes, a touch on the salty side, but still addictive. The salad was fresh and bright, with a ginger dressing that tied it all together. The Tempura Shrimp had that perfect crunch without being greasy, and the fried vegetables were just right--soft on the inside, crisp on the outside. The sushi was fresh and simple, a nice touch that rounded out the plate. From start to finish, the entire experience felt like a win. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, the food was consistently good, and the price was fair enough that you don't walk out feeling like you overpaid for mediocre food. Finally--we feel like that we have finally found a Chinese restaurant we can actually get excited about. One that: 1: Doesn't break the bank. 2: Doesn't leave you wishing you'd gone somewhere else. So, if you're tired of rolling the dice on new places only to walk away disappointed, do yourself a favor--go to Tokyo Garden. Whether it's your first visit or your fifth, you'll walk away full, happy, and already planning your next trip back. Thanks, Tokyo Garden. Your food, your atmosphere, and your staff have earned you two new regulars.
