Black Pepper Lamb

Amazingly delicious Chinese food in Rural Nor-Cal. Was packed when we checked in but we were seated promptly. we played the field with: Crispy Quail - delish! Egg Flower Soup for 2 - mmm MuShu Chicken - Yum Black pepper disappointed. We were on a drive to look at rural properties and found Peter Chus on Yelp. We were not disapointed. We rarely get Chinese, Korean, or Japanese up north because we are in love with our favorites in the Bay. period. end of story. and for Redding CA, this was delightfully surprising. Service was a bit slow, but again it was packed. The service was also polite, and personal. Our waitress even made a mushu wrap for us to show us how she felt it should be done. add to the fact they have a full bar, and it really is legit. Plenty of room, and lots of tables. If it's not super packed you can request a table at the window and watch the planes come and go... It's upstairs in the airport, but its prices are as if it's in town so that's a huge plus! we will be back!

So good! I love everything about this place except they rush you to leave. The food comes out hot, fresh, fun experience watching planes take off while eating.

Prawns with Garlic Sauce (5 stars)

Wow. I have not had a 5+ star experience in a restaurant for a while. This place is superb. FOOD: - Prawns with Hot Ginger Garlic Sauce (5 stars): Both spicy with garlic and juicy. The sauce is amazing. Enough spiciness to give a kick. It was sooo yummy over rice. - Mongolian Lamb (5 stars): My hubby's favorite. The meat tasted smoked. It was also amazing over rice. Very filling. - Won Ton Soup: A great appetizer. I would try another soup next time. It was a great one-time taster. For our anniversary, we were served free vanilla ice cream. It was fun, and thoughtful. SERVICE: - Stellar service by the whole crew! I called ahead to ask questions - the man who answered the phone was kind and engaging, when we arrived we were seated quickly, our server gave recommendations and was very polite, etc. They were great! We will definitely visit this place again. It makes sense I heard great things from other people in town.

Sweet and sour chicken (I get my sauce on the side because I don't like a lot)

We've lived in Redding for 20+ years and this is our first time at Peter Chu's Skyroom. We've tried to come a couple other times when we weren't aware of their hours. They close between meals apparently. We were greeted and seated upon entrance at 1 on a Saturday. It wasn't super busy. We ordered wonton soup for two - it was delicious - and pot stickers (they take 15 minutes to prepare and are so worth it - so much flavor. And the sauce! Yum!). We then decided on a lunch: Randy ordered dry braised chicken breast. It was supposed to be spicy and there were some paper thin red peppers in it but it wasn't spicy at all. I had a bite and I'm incredibly wimpy and zero spice. It was really delicious and I would definitely order it myself next time. The awesome server we had said they can make it mild. I would still do that because my luck, it would be super spicy and inedible for me lol. I ordered the sweet n sour chicken. Also delicious. All the food came with a large pot of cooked white rice. And because we ended up ordering a meal, it came with soup, two egg rolls and some crispy yummies. All delicious. We tasted the soup and brought the rest home. We had so much food to take home and we asked for a side of the pot sticker sauce to eat with the rice leftovers. The ambiance is pretty chill. The tables are far enough apart it could intimate or not. Our server and the bus boy were on top of things and quick to take empty plates and refill waters. And they were helpful and friendly. We will absolutely be back!

I was picking up my boss at this tiny airport we have here in Redding last week. The flight was on time and he asked is there anywhere to get something to eat around here? Well, most airports have food, maybe not the best but they do usually have food. But this little airport had just one restaurant, and it turns out to be a Chinese restaurant. My boss happens to be Chinese ... from L.A. not over seas ... like no accent or anything, but he was open to trying this Peter Chu's Skyroom. Skyroom is in reference to the view of the airport I assume. We got a couple of dishes and some soup. He did the ordering .. I'm along for the ride! I will say the view is different than most restaurants. The soup arrived first, a chicken creamy corn soup ... that was good, not a commonly ordered soup like won ton or egg drop. I thought it was better after adding some spicy oil .... boss did it so I did too. Then we had some stir fry dish with veggies and BBQ pork. I recognized the meat as BBQ pork. The other dish was a beef dish with oyster sauce I was told. Wow, that was some tender beef! The sauce was good, I almost thought the beef was filet Mignon, but I'm sure it wasn't. Service was fine and the boss paid and we're outta here. This was an unexpected good find for food at this little airport. Oh, yes, there's a full bar here too, so if you wee so inclined ... but we passed for now.

Beer!

Grand Buffet - Sushi and fried food

Grand Buffet

I just dropped my work rental SUV back at the rental place and a friend of mine was gonna give me a…read moreride back to my car. To pay him back I asked him where he wanted to go for lunch, he said that Chinese buffet. OK, I know what place he's talkin about, the Grand Buffet, On Hilltop Drive just off the 5 off of East Cypress exit. East to find and lots of parking. Looks like it's been over 2 years since I was here. The price for lunch now is $17 bucks plus tax and some tip. We get there and the place looks about the same as the last time I was here. They have these big Koi fish that seem to be an attraction near the front. We get seated and drink orders taken. We got here close to opening at 11 am. so all the food was nice and fresh and hot. Don't get here half hour before closing and expect there to be all hot fresh food, it ain't gonna happen. Some of the things I love here are those ribs! Yeah, Chinese can make so damn good ribs! Not Texas style though. Chicken wings are another of my fave here. My friend went wild and ate a ton of food, all kinds of noodles, ribs and wings. I pretty much skipped the carbs and filled up with shrimp, wings and ribs. They even have french fries if you want! Service is the usual just clear the plates and fill the drinks with minimal conversation. I gotta remember this place is here!

An Absolute Gem!…read more This Buffet Shattered All My Expectations! Let me be perfectly honest: I walked into this place armed with a healthy dose of skepticism. Having browsed some of the less-than-stellar reviews, my expectations were cautiously low. But from the moment I stepped up to the first steaming tray, it was immediately clear that this wasn't your average, run-of-the-mill buffet. By the way, it was lunch and was 11:30 AM. Any preconceived notions I had were completely obliterated by the sheer quality and care evident in every single dish. The first thing you notice is the freshness--every ingredient tasted vibrant and recently prepared, with nothing sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The food wasn't just warm; it was gloriously, satisfyingly hot. The highlights? There were almost too many to count. · The Chicken Wings: Forget any soggy, buffet-wing trauma you may have. These were a masterclass in texture--impossibly crispy on the outside, while remaining supremely juicy and tender within. · The Baked Salmon: This was a showstopper. Each flaky, moist fillet was infused with a rich, buttery essence and a deep umami flavor that melted on the tongue. It was a dish worthy of a dedicated seafood restaurant. · The Fried Egg Rolls: A perfect crunch gave way to a savory, well-seasoned filling. No greasy aftertaste, just pure, crispy delight. · The Egg Drop Soup: So often an afterthought, here it was a star. A beautifully balanced broth that was both comforting and sophisticated. · The Sautéed Mushrooms: Absolutely divine. They were garlicky, savory, and cooked to a tender perfection that had me going back for a second (and third!) helping. In a world where buffets can be a gamble, this establishment is a sure bet. They have clearly made a commitment to quality, flavor, and freshness that is frankly exceptional. Do not let the mixed reviews deter you. My experience was nothing short of phenomenal, and I will undoubtedly be returning soon. This place isn't just a hit; it's a destination. The real test will be when I return to see if consistency holds true. Update: I went back a few days later because I was hungry and I was curious. Again, it did not disappoint. Food was just as good as it was a few days earlier my review stays the same. Great job grand buffet!
