Edamame was overcooked and dry falling apart. Roll I've always loved not even close to original :((('( so much overcooked rice and rolls loose & too big. Unfortunately, I won't be back. Service from main waitress annoyed & barely a smile ... as usual. @ least the sushi used to be good ! Broken, ripped seats no great ambiance

Idk what went down with this order, if the chef was in a mood, but the lack of care is wild. Not to mention seeing tobiko bits on my roll (after mentioning I have a shell fish allergy, so usually that requires more intentional prep and serving) and not sure that really was taken into consideration? Update: Tried it and there were fish bones in my roles lol Trashed it cause didn't want to take the chance of getting sick

Teriyaki chicken sushi!

We arrived shortly after 4pm today thinking we would have plenty of time to get to a 5:30pm game at Simpson University. When we arrived we were the only table seated in the other room. After ordering 10 minutes later the waitress tells us that you're out of Sesame Chicken and sold the last one an hour. The waitress didn't know that when we placed our order? How do you run out of Sesame chicken? I ordered chicken teriyaki sushi on the regular menu and they looked like appetizers, barely had any rice. They were sooo tiny! When we were leaving we noticed other sushi's were of "normal" size not where you could put the entire sushi in your mouth! Very disappointing as our friends had high recommendations!

Service was friendly and welcoming. The food is mediocre, but still good. The ambiance was alright, but there were some loud customers. Overall okay place.

Healthy roll

TOBY! I told him my dietary needs and he was QUICK to point out the healthy roll to me. Nothing fried no dairy and has the veggies I like! Delicious and HUGE all I needed! My mom enjoyed herself too Thank you Toby! Ps. It's always been cute inside with low lighting that doesn't hurt your eyes or feel like it's always buzzing. Go in before 6, or it gets busy, even on a Thursday!

The vibes were good it wasn't too crowded. Some of the helpers on here must just want to waste food because we had an outrageous amount of food. They advertised the sushi boat service on their door, but did not have it during the time window they posted. I had no expectations for great sushi and thought I'd get "ok" sushi here. Instead, It was memorable only for how bad it was. The tuna (maguro) was awful. It was inedibly grainy and did not slightly spring back when touched with gentle pressure--the sign of either low quality fish, or lack of freshness. It is also the common bright pink gassed fish--not a sign of quality. I wouldn't feed this to my cat. I ate one piece of fish without rice. The texture was grainy and gross. I figure it was a fluke and tried another piece before spitting it out. Hard pass. The salmon roe sushi was also off, and inedible. The egg sushi was water-logged and not good. Finally, their chef does not know how to make proper sushi rice. The rice should be sweet with a hint of tartness, both in balance with the rice. No harmony here--it was just slightly tart. When I complained that it was inedible the server was suspiciously defensive insisting it was "fresh." If that's true, it was not good fish from a reputable vendor. If you want sushi and you're in Redding, go to Kobe or Raw.

Hard to find the front door but once we did we were very pleased with the ambiance. Raw is a lovely space and the bar is large and looks very inviting and like a place tou could feel very comfortable having a cocktail or two. The seating is comfortable and has a relaxed vibe. The sushi was just not great. We ordered several of the special rolls that ranged in price from $22 to $29. They all tasted pretty much the same and every one of them had the same sauce. But the safest part is the tempura shrimp in the rolls tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. And instead of getting that crispy light tempura crust, it was gummy and heavy. The rice was gummy and I am not sure if it was overcooked or perhaps had too much sugar added which madeit overly sweet and congealed. We also ordered a dou le.order of the Hamachi sashimi which was fair but lacked that super rich butter flavor I crave. We were so hoping to find our go to sushi spot while visiting Raw. And I do think they have a place in the restaurant bar world. But their "place" is not for as a high end sushi restaurant. The quality is just not there. And I so wanted it to be. ‍

The staff is all upbeat and positive starting with the hostess and her bubbly personality, she took any negative feelings we might have had away. Our server was amazing, close when we needed something, but never a bother PLUS she recommended the Jayden roll, thank you . The cook engaged and made a show of heating our food. The inside is very comfortable as well and set up to manage all of the activity that comes from making your own plates. Extensive sushi menu and bar menu too for those who want. Too many options for proteins, veggies and sauces to list making it possibly the best bang for the buck around.
