Tempura

Raw is our hands down favorite sushi restaurant in Redding. We love the sushi so much that we haven't tried the other entrees yet. Maybe someday we will. We like the atmosphere, the service and the sushi is fresh and excellent. If you go during Happy Hour the drinks and sushi items are very affordable. I highly recommend.

The restaurant was clean, and the service was impressive. The food tasted good overall. Some pieces of the sashimi were not as fresh as expected, but overall it was a fairly good dining experience.

In town for the light show and decided to give RAW a try. My issues overall was the ambiance wasn't my jam. The low lighting and feel just felt like it was trying to take us to LA or something. Not a huge issue and many folks probably love this but it did feel weird to me. At first glance of the menu the prices are pretty wild compared to what I'm more use to in the Chico area. I have had plenty of sushi around the US so I know prices vary but always a little sticker shock seeing those $20+ rolls. We ended up with at least two rolls priced at $25. That said we really enjoyed the rolls(wish I could remember the names now) and thankfully for the price they did fill us up. They're on the large side and tasted fresh. The kid LOVED their spicy edamame that we ordered a second one. The traditional salted one was a little off and I think it was cause they used oil? Still good but didn't hit the spot as well. Overall tho we enjoyed our dinner. We can see why my father in law visits pretty regularly.

Sushi here is so yummy! They have great happy hour deals. Service was nice, hostess was very kind and made sure we had everything. Clean and cool atmosphere!

Awesome Roll. It should be called Awful Roll.

The sushi was awful. I have not had such Sushi of low quality in my life. I think Safeway could do a much better job. The rice was hard. Seaweed was too tough. The fish was of the lowest quality I believe I have had in my life. The service was mediocre at best. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the 14th century European plague (Yersinia pestis).

We go to RAW on the regular for date nights. We really enjoy most of the sushi and the atmosphere is perfect for casual dates! The menu has lots of options for different rolls and some other things if you're not too into sushi. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. This visit, the bartender created me something delicious since I have given up alcohol. Thanks for a memorable night! Look forward to seeing you guys again soon!

We come here often for happy hour, and the food never disappoints. The spicy edamame and Philadelphia roll are my favorites, and it's always fun to try their unique happy hour drinks!

They even put all our sushi on a beautiful platter!

We came here as newly weds to celebrate and have a nice dinner and raw definitely pulled out the stops to make sure we were having a wonderful time. The ambience in the restaurant is great and the food is even more amazing! Would definitely recommend to get the Shishito peppers!!! Our server was Logan, she was so sweet and friendly and really helped us have a wonderful experience!

Soooo much sushi!

Everything was delicious. I will definitely not go on a Friday night ever again though. It was so loud and busy that it took quite a while for the food to come out. I never understood why appetizers come out in 3s for two people either. Kinda lame if you ask me. Anywho, great place, great service and will be back again!

Great service and environment, genuinely a great place to eat at. Rainbow Roll - 8/10 Refreshing and very large for a roll. I love how the fish on top adds both adds flavor and makes it more aesthetically pleasing Dragon Roll - 9/10 Nice and crunchy, the mix of creaminess and crunch is such a nice textural contrast. The eel sauce added a bunch of flavor and the caviar a nice textural contrast. Spider Roll - 10/10 The pop from the caviar and a fried taste. My girlfriend fw this heavy.

Deep Fried California Roll

My friend showed me this place since she loves sushi and wow! I've never really had sushi before, and the deep fried California roll was definitely my favorite! Super kind and friendly staff, and awesome service!

My husband and I came here for our 15th anniversary and had dinner. We had the privilege of being served by Maggie who provided such excellent service! When I stepped in, I felt like I was in a restaurant back home in Hawaii, like I had stepped out of Redding. My husband and I spent quite a bit of time analyzing how much the restaurant's design and atmosphere reminded us of home. It was beautiful to step into a place that felt like home, especially because I have been missing it a lot recently. If it were for these things alone I would give 5 stars. Now for the food: -The wings were done well! -The tempura and sauce were average - not bad, but not as great as I have had in places where we would return just for the tempura. This is likely the best tempura you will find in Redding. The hamachi sushi rolls were disappointing in overall flavor and appearance, but the price during happy hour was nice. -Now to the Chirashi. My favorite food is sashimi, so whenever visiting a sushi place I always order the chirashi as a personal scale of how good the place is. I think the freshness of the fish matters in such a simple dish, the sushi rice can shine, and the presentation reveals the care taken to produce something beautiful. Every Friday, in Hawaii, my dad gets fresh sashimi grade fish from the morning auction and prepares it, so my expectations for sashimi are pretty high! I understand we are in Redding and we are not in Hawaii so I adjusted my expectations based on that. Here are the things that I feel could use some improvement: 1. The thickness of the sashimi I feel that when using previously frozen fish it is all the more important to cut the fish thinly because of the texture of the fish. 2. The overall presentation. Although there was quite a bit of food served, it felt as though it was thrown together versus being intentionally placed. I also think it would have been better served in a bowl. 3. The amount of food given. I know some would disagree with me because we are all trying to get a "bang for our buck" but there was so much going on. I think if some of the items were left off of the plate it would have been closer to an authentic chirashi. I LOVED the tako salad so much that I would return just for that, BUT I felt that it could do better as the star of it's own show. I think this place has a lot of potential! I would love to return to see how they grow.

The ambience is ok for a strip mall location. We went in because my son really wanted to get sushi…read morefrom their circling boat/converoy belt service. They advertised the sushi boat service on their door, but did not have it during the time window they posted. I had no expectations for great sushi and thought I'd get "ok" sushi here. Instead, It was memorable only for how bad it was. The tuna (maguro) was awful. It was inedibly grainy and did not slightly spring back when touched with gentle pressure--the sign of either low quality fish, or lack of freshness. It is also the common bright pink gassed fish--not a sign of quality. I wouldn't feed this to my cat. I ate one piece of fish without rice. The texture was grainy and gross. I figure it was a fluke and tried another piece before spitting it out. Hard pass. The salmon roe sushi was also off, and inedible. The egg sushi was water-logged and not good. Finally, their chef does not know how to make proper sushi rice. The rice should be sweet with a hint of tartness, both in balance with the rice. No harmony here--it was just slightly tart. When I complained that it was inedible the server was suspiciously defensive insisting it was "fresh." If that's true, it was not good fish from a reputable vendor. If you want sushi and you're in Redding, go to Kobe or Raw.

The hosts were congenial and friendly and took our orders confidently and quickly. My wife and daughters ordered poke bowls and I ordered their Ramen. The Poke bowls were pretty good (in comparison with the Poke spots we have in Sac), and the ladies cleaned their bowls completely. There are three types of Ramen bowls available (Spam, Miso and Seafood), and I selected the Seafood option. It was a standard mix of shrimp, imitation crab, and scallops with fish cake, green onions and seaweed with a miso-like broth. The bowl was pretty solid, the broth could use a bit more flavor. So all in all, it was a solid meal for us. I would give the poke bowls a solid B, and the Ramen bowl a B-. Poke Land is a good place to have Poke or Ramen if you're in Redding. I surmise that there are better Ramen options within the Japanese restaurants around town, maybe better Poke options too. However, this is a good place that does both.

The salmon was really fresh and I loved how you can pick all the toppings and sauces you want! Our server was really sweet too. I loved the house/ponzu sauce with ricee. My only complaint is that the other fish options besides the salmon didn't look too fresh. The tuna/snapper/etc looked more pre/frozen and dry. Would definitely recommend this spot for a fast casual meal!

We visited Tokyo Garden on a Friday evening, about 5pm. Party of 5. I felt like the food was…read more"okay" but nothing to write home about. We ordered a variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and stir fry's. It was surprisingly pricey, but I'm told that they're comparable to other sushi places. As someone that doesn't frequent sushi restaurants, I felt like the amount of food didn't really match the prices. The main reason for removing stars was the service was lacking. We waited for over an hour before any food (we even ordered apps) hit the table. The waitress wasn't on top of keeping drinks full, or even making sure we have silverware or napkins. It was a bit of a struggle to get what we needed during our time here. Would I eat here again? Yes. Would it be my first choice? No.

We've passed this place many times before, and a while back, we even found it on Yelp listed as a Chinese restaurant nearby. For some reason, we never stopped in--until now. This weekend, we decided to finally give Tokyo Garden a shot. Now, we've tried other local spots like Grand Buffet and Golden Star. While they're fine, they tend to fall into the "meh" category--edible, but nothing to rave about. Nothing, that is, until you compare them to Tokyo Garden. Sure, you can swing by Panda Express if you're just after a quick fix, but when you want a sit-down restaurant that consistently serves food a notch above the rest, Tokyo Garden should be at the top of your list. From the moment we walked in, the place gave off a warm, welcoming environment. The décor on the walls was tasteful, the tables were covered with colorful floral designs, and the atmosphere felt both inviting and relaxed. Our waitress greeted us quickly, took our drink orders, and even brought us water while we waited--a small gesture, but one that shows thoughtfulness. Not long after, my Arnold Palmer arrived alongside my wife's Pepsi. As we browsed the menu, we landed on the Food Box Number 3, which came with Teriyaki Chicken, Miso Soup, a fresh salad, three pieces of sushi, white rice (brown rice available for just $2 more), and fried vegetables with Tempura Shrimp. But before committing to the main course, we couldn't resist starting with an appetizer--Crab Rangoons. Let me tell you, we've sampled Crab Rangoons from plenty of places, but Tokyo Garden's were next level. The exterior was perfectly crispy, the filling had that distinct, real crab flavor (not just cream cheese), and the balance of flavors was spot on. Paired with their Sweet and Sour Sauce, it was the kind of appetizer that makes you want to order another round before the main meal even arrives. Then came the main event. The Chicken Teriyaki was tender and flavorful--yes, a touch on the salty side, but still addictive. The salad was fresh and bright, with a ginger dressing that tied it all together. The Tempura Shrimp had that perfect crunch without being greasy, and the fried vegetables were just right--soft on the inside, crisp on the outside. The sushi was fresh and simple, a nice touch that rounded out the plate. From start to finish, the entire experience felt like a win. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, the food was consistently good, and the price was fair enough that you don't walk out feeling like you overpaid for mediocre food. Finally--we feel like that we have finally found a Chinese restaurant we can actually get excited about. One that: 1: Doesn't break the bank. 2: Doesn't leave you wishing you'd gone somewhere else. So, if you're tired of rolling the dice on new places only to walk away disappointed, do yourself a favor--go to Tokyo Garden. Whether it's your first visit or your fifth, you'll walk away full, happy, and already planning your next trip back. Thanks, Tokyo Garden. Your food, your atmosphere, and your staff have earned you two new regulars.
