    Shrimp Tempura Roll

We live in Los Angeles, right next to the ocean, and come from a place where sushi and Korean BBQ are everywhere -- and I can honestly say Yama Sushi is better than a lot of spots back home. I came here with my girlfriend and our 2-year-old daughter and was seriously impressed. The spicy tuna roll and the bulgogi were hands down my favorites -- fresh, flavorful, and done right. There was an older Asian lady running the floor by herself, serving us and about three other tables, and she was incredibly attentive the entire time. Never felt rushed, never ignored. I don't understand how this place is under 4 stars -- those reviews are straight BS. This is easily my favorite place to eat in Redding. We will absolutely be coming back.

Tried Yama Sushi for the first time this week and had a pleasant experience. The servers were friendly, helpful, and quick to take our order. We settled on some edamame and potstickers as an appetizer as well as a couple sushi rolls and a hand roll. Overall, the food was well cooked and had good flavor. Most of the items we would order again except the chicken, which is more a personal preference rather than it not being done well. They offer the cool sushi boat bar for lunch which looks worth a try. My only qualm was the restaurant itself. It was really run down and had a weird smell. The tables were short in comparison to the benches we sat on.

Miss coming to this place but love the happy albacore roll. To go rolls are always great and the staff are friendly. The place was clean and quiet when I arrived.

Side dishes were also bad, everything tastes salty.

This was by far the worst KBBQ experience I've ever had. The food quality was incredibly poor meat was tough, poorly marinated, and looked questionable. But what made it even worse was the owner's behavior. Despite clearly advertising an all-you-can-eat (AUCE). Completely unprofessional and felt like a scam. Avoid this place at all costs, there are far better KBBQ spots in California that actually respect their customers.

Yama Sushi seems more of a Korean BBQ place than a real sushi place. I mean there's still plenty of sushi or order. I was here with a friend and wanted sushi, not really into KBB, as I really don't wanna hafta cook my own food at the table. You get all smoky smelling after dinner too. We ordered some rolls cause my friend likes rolls more than the real nigiri raw fish experience. It seem to take a long tome for the rolls to get served, but maybe they were just busy. I don't expect a authentic Japanese sushi experience here in Redding, where there's few Japanese people around, but I was hoping for a competent skilled sushi experience. ... even if it is just rolls. The rolls seem a little over piled with other stuff than the actual fish. They tasted OK, sort of on the sweet side but would make the less experienced diner happy and that's what my friend is so it's all good. Not what I'd order, but we had a fine time.

Our server was kind and attentive, we were seated quickly, our drinks never sat empty. I've tried this place before and originally (during COVID) was unimpressed, since it was during the pandemic I figured we should give it another chance. Which was one of the best decisions we've ever made. The food was fresh the drinks are cold the service was fantastic. Let's go down the checklist: The restaurant was clean. The atmosphere was wonderful they even had the boats running again. (On certain days) The service was fantastic. The food was delicious and well prepared. And the food quality and quantity to price was very well balanced. That earns Yama Sushi a five-star rating from this Professional Critic.

Very good sushi. Surprisingly busy for a Tuesday but we were well taken care of. The all you can eat lunch special is a fun parade of boats filled with fresh plates of food circling the center of the restaurant. Everything was very good. We will definitely be back for more sushi and we are excited to try the Korean BBQ too

Excellent food. Excellent service. This is a little out of the way but is a great place for sushi in Redding. We went for lunch on a Saturday. They were prompt and the rolls tasted great. The Cinderella roll has a nice crunch and the crazy roll is just a bit spicy. The mochi was chewy and delicious. Definitely will come back.

This review is for the Korean BBQ side only. The meats are deliciously marinated. Our favorites were the bulgogi and the marinated pork belly. The marinated chicken was good, the garlic chicken was just salty (no garlic). The gyoza was tasty. The California rolls were salty. I haven't been to a Korean BBQ with table top grills since the Palace in Santa Clara was still open. There was a lovely lady playing piano as well. Will definitely be back :)

Sushi Lunch Buffet is a good value. I have done it a few times and it's best to go when it starts vs when it ends.

Hard to find the front door but once we did we were very pleased with the ambiance. Raw is a lovely space and the bar is large and looks very inviting and like a place tou could feel very comfortable having a cocktail or two. The seating is comfortable and has a relaxed vibe. The sushi was just not great. We ordered several of the special rolls that ranged in price from $22 to $29. They all tasted pretty much the same and every one of them had the same sauce. But the safest part is the tempura shrimp in the rolls tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. And instead of getting that crispy light tempura crust, it was gummy and heavy. The rice was gummy and I am not sure if it was overcooked or perhaps had too much sugar added which madeit overly sweet and congealed. We also ordered a dou le.order of the Hamachi sashimi which was fair but lacked that super rich butter flavor I crave. We were so hoping to find our go to sushi spot while visiting Raw. And I do think they have a place in the restaurant bar world. But their "place" is not for as a high end sushi restaurant. The quality is just not there. And I so wanted it to be. ‍

We ordered a variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and stir fry's. It was surprisingly pricey, but I'm told that they're comparable to other sushi places. As someone that doesn't frequent sushi restaurants, I felt like the amount of food didn't really match the prices. The main reason for removing stars was the service was lacking. We waited for over an hour before any food (we even ordered apps) hit the table. The waitress wasn't on top of keeping drinks full, or even making sure we have silverware or napkins. It was a bit of a struggle to get what we needed during our time here. Would I eat here again? Yes. Would it be my first choice? No.

We've passed this place many times before, and a while back, we even found it on Yelp listed as a Chinese restaurant nearby. For some reason, we never stopped in--until now. This weekend, we decided to finally give Tokyo Garden a shot. Now, we've tried other local spots like Grand Buffet and Golden Star. While they're fine, they tend to fall into the "meh" category--edible, but nothing to rave about. Nothing, that is, until you compare them to Tokyo Garden. Sure, you can swing by Panda Express if you're just after a quick fix, but when you want a sit-down restaurant that consistently serves food a notch above the rest, Tokyo Garden should be at the top of your list. From the moment we walked in, the place gave off a warm, welcoming environment. The décor on the walls was tasteful, the tables were covered with colorful floral designs, and the atmosphere felt both inviting and relaxed. Our waitress greeted us quickly, took our drink orders, and even brought us water while we waited--a small gesture, but one that shows thoughtfulness. Not long after, my Arnold Palmer arrived alongside my wife's Pepsi. As we browsed the menu, we landed on the Food Box Number 3, which came with Teriyaki Chicken, Miso Soup, a fresh salad, three pieces of sushi, white rice (brown rice available for just $2 more), and fried vegetables with Tempura Shrimp. But before committing to the main course, we couldn't resist starting with an appetizer--Crab Rangoons. Let me tell you, we've sampled Crab Rangoons from plenty of places, but Tokyo Garden's were next level. The exterior was perfectly crispy, the filling had that distinct, real crab flavor (not just cream cheese), and the balance of flavors was spot on. Paired with their Sweet and Sour Sauce, it was the kind of appetizer that makes you want to order another round before the main meal even arrives. Then came the main event. The Chicken Teriyaki was tender and flavorful--yes, a touch on the salty side, but still addictive. The salad was fresh and bright, with a ginger dressing that tied it all together. The Tempura Shrimp had that perfect crunch without being greasy, and the fried vegetables were just right--soft on the inside, crisp on the outside. The sushi was fresh and simple, a nice touch that rounded out the plate. From start to finish, the entire experience felt like a win. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, the food was consistently good, and the price was fair enough that you don't walk out feeling like you overpaid for mediocre food. Finally--we feel like that we have finally found a Chinese restaurant we can actually get excited about. One that: 1: Doesn't break the bank. 2: Doesn't leave you wishing you'd gone somewhere else. So, if you're tired of rolling the dice on new places only to walk away disappointed, do yourself a favor--go to Tokyo Garden. Whether it's your first visit or your fifth, you'll walk away full, happy, and already planning your next trip back. Thanks, Tokyo Garden. Your food, your atmosphere, and your staff have earned you two new regulars.
