I just heard there was an all you can eat sushi place here in Redding. Normally, I gotta go to Reno or even Sac to get all you can eat sushi (AYCE). In Reno almost every place is all you can eat. I gotta say, once you've done all you can eat sushi for around $30 bucks, ordering ala carte and paying by the piece or roll is not the deal at all. Osaka Sushi here in Redding is located right off Churn Creek Road where it crosses over the 44 by the Food Max. Just head to the Food Max and go to the left of the building and it's at the end. Easy parking. Inside is very nice and modern. If you didn't know, all you can eat sushi is NOT a buffet where you pile on a bunch of premade sushi on a tray. No, IT's all made to order here and most all AYCE sushi places like in Nevada are made to order. There's a few rules that all these place have, like no wasting food at the end, only order what you're gonna eat or they'll charge you for wasted food. There's lunch and dinner options here. It's around $34 for the dinner, and that gives you full access to all the real good expensive stuff on the menu. Lunch is $26 and gives you the basic sushi rolls and nigiri, but not the premium stuff. You get a 2 hour limit as well, but I've never had to go that long before I was all stuffed and had to do the el stuffo waddle outta there. Service was quick and efficient, not like some places where they give slow service just so you don't eat as much! We ordered a bunch of nigiri orders. I like that the dinner price includes real sashimi orders (no rice) as well as more of the expensive cuts of fish or the soft shell crab. The Ikura (salmon caviar) was excellent and fresh. We just kept ordering till we reached our limit of tummy space. We were there for about 90 minutes, so nowhere the time limit. I'm glad to have Osaka Sushi in Redding, sure beats driving to Nevada ... especially in winter! read more

We tried Osaka for the first time after hearing so much about it. The service was good and the presentation of the rolls was really fun but it wasn't my favorite sushi in town. The restaurant was packed and I know a lot of people like that it's the only "All You Can Eat" sushi place in town, which makes it more affordable. I'd definitely go back there with friends but if I were choosing, it wouldn't be my first choice. The fish tasted a little "fishy" to me, which I know sounds funny but if you've had a lot of quality sushi, you'll know what I mean. Here in Redding for a conference and was craving for AYCE sushi. The restaurant is clean and staff are very attentive. Their sushi tastes fresh and they are the perfect bite. We were traveling thru Redding and it was time for dinner. Searched dinner and this restaurant had excellent reviews. We have to say - they were right!! We ordered AYCE and it was a great value for the price. AYCE sushi restaurants don't exist any longer where we live. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and served water right away. Our server showed up quickly and took our first order. Here is what was amazing - every time I picked up the menu to look at what we might order next, she was at the table before I could even look around. Now, the food. The sashimi was fresh and well portioned. We had one roll of- the Highway 44. Not only was it delicious but it had nine (9) generous pieces to the roll. (Most places have 6-8). The crab wontons were tasty. The agadashi tofu was presented differently than I am used to. I wish it had more of the sauce. Vanilla ice cream and sesame balls topped off the meal. The environment was a little noisy but that was ok. There is a two hour limit, you cannot take leftovers home and there is an extra charge for uneaten food (including rice). All very reasonable 'rules' for AYCE. If we lived here, we would be weekly customers. read more

We went to Osaka Sushi for the first time, Sunday all you can eat dinner. Cute decor. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated but the hostess was very nice and helpful. Once seated it took a bit for somebody to come over and take our order. They were very busy but our food came out pretty quick after. The fried salmon skin salad was excellent (I was told), and the sushi rolls were 7/10. Pros: Rolled pretty tight, good size per roll, soy wrap option, okay selection. Cons: They used only imitation crab and the avocado was not very ripe. The "crab mix" didn't taste good so I stuck with the shrimp/ebi options which were much better. Would go again. read more

I honestly didn't even think all-you-can-eat sushi still existed in America--but here it is, and it's done right. The double salmon roll and double tuna roll are absolutely outstanding. The jalapeño bomb, teriyaki chicken, and nigiri were all excellent as well. There wasn't a single dish that disappointed--everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. GOT ME SUPER SICK! My husband and I ate at Osaka Sushi last night. I ordered the Osaka roll at $25, it said it was "soft shell crab". Was literally like eating a rock in a sushi roll. It was so hard it hurt my mouth so I didn't eat it. I should have sent it back. My husband got the bento box and the tempura veggies were swimming in oil. Didn't eat those either.
