While we were waiting to get seated, the owner of the restaurant came up to us and said, (( I am not cooking for you, you guys need to leave)). Then I said, "Are you kidding me?" The owner then stated, " You don't belong here"". My wife kept saying, " I don't know what's wrong," and the owner rolled her eyes and said again, " I don't want you here." The food was not good at all. The service was even worse. I got a ramen and it tasted like water and when I asked for add on like, lime and chili oil, it took the waitress 10 minutes to get there. The lady at the front was dry as hell we were going to leave but the young Mexican lady was super friendly so we stayed although they have no short rib on the menu unless you pay 15$ per serving which isn't on the all you can eat. We happened on to the all you can eat buffet. The boats were festive and fun. However the food was old, rubbery and fishy. Think of the smell at a fish dock. That was how it was. The place was packed so some people must like it or not know the difference between good sushi and yuck? The ambiance is good but skip the food. Had the Red Hot Dragon sushi and Seafood Yosenabe for lunch today. I didn't like the sushi. I guess fried sushi isn't my thing. I hadn't had any before so I thought I'd give it a try, but rolls or raw fish is much better to me. The fish in the Yosenabe was dry and overcooked. Notice the overall rating for this place? There is only one reason for the very low score for Yama Sushi, the owner. The "B" word comes to mind. Her attitude, affect, rude nature, disrespectful, ignorant behavior overwhelms everyone there. The sushi is just okay but the owner's behavior toward customers is very unreasonable. I found a black hair in my sushi and my hair is gray, and has been for 25 years. She accused me of that being my hair. I refused to pay which really pissed her off. She insisted it was my hair and the sushi makers had very black hair which does not align up with my almost white hair. Bottom line this woman deserves no business. I only hope one day she goes out of business because of her behavior. We, all of my friends and their friends are spreading the word about this woman. Please help us put her out of business by spreading the word on your Facebook page, Twiter or any other social media that is effective in helping the cause for putting Yama Sushi out of business. I feel so bad writing this review because we used to love Yama. We recently moved and came back to the area to visit. We decided to have kbbq at our old spot. The kimchi and kimchi radish side dishes were rotten and gritty. We ended up just having some meat with rice and the peanut side dish. Everything else tasted spoiled. 3.5 for me, my wife gave it 3 but I'm the one writing this review! You can choose sushi or Korean bbq. We chose bbq. I love Korean bbq and have eaten it all over the country. The Korean bbq table takes about 7min to set up and get seated. Understand, someone in your party will be doing the actual cooking. I love to cook and understand fat rendering so it's fun for me. Our waitress forgot to turn our burner on so took a little longer to get cooking. I thought the quality of meat was good my wife thought it was way too fatty. you can choose 3 meats and 2 appetizers at a time. The bologi was the star in my opinion. My wife enjoyed her plum wine. It takes a lot of work to have a successful Korean bbq operation and I'd say they are doing a good job. The waitress we had was lacking, forgot my wife's 2cnd glass of wine. No extra napkins or plates. She was fairly busy and probably not very experienced at serving and it is a demanding production. All and all it was good and if I lived near by I'd gladly go back atleast once a month. Go give it a try have a little patience enjoy the experience. read more

This is my first time coming to this establishment. I have to say the food here is amazing.

My partner and I went to this place last night for dinner and were really impressed with the quality of the food and service provided. The wait staff kept apologizing that they were short two servers, but we really never noticed as they were extremely responsive and efficient. Plus, all the servers were wearing masks, which is really important and appreciated right now. The selection of meats were ample and freshly cut. The appetizers were delicious as well. I really enjoyed this experience, we have been to other similar bbq places outside the area and so I am happy to see one here in Redding. The place was clean, nicely decorated, and they had the temperature just right- which can be hard to do with some man independent grills going. We chose Yama to celebrate our son getting his drivers license. When we showed up no one was there which was cool because we have a one year old son with us. The host promptly grabbed us a high chair. The miso soup came out fast and the baby even had some! The Gluten Free Egg Fried Rice was sensational and the baby fed himself sooo much. The crazy roll, Philly, and California rolls were all GF and great. The service was so good, the waitress was so so sweet to our baby boy. Our go to sushi restaurant in the area. The staff is friendly and we've always had great service. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. They have a large selection of sushi rolls to choose from as well as nigiri and sashimi. The chefs are fantastic at what they do and can create custom rolls if you have special preferences or any allergies. We usually sit at the bar but we've also been seated at a table the food and service are equally good regardless where you sit. If you aren't a fan of sushi they also have a variety of cooked Chinese/Japanese cuisine. I highly recommend you give this place a try! Update: They recently added Korean barbecue next door! I haven't tried it yet but the menu looks amazing. Table has a built in barbecue so you can cook your own food right there. First place like this in Redding that I know of! read more

This my favorite "go to" Japanese restaurant in the Redding area. It's actually pretty good for a place with not a lot of choices (I'm from the Bay Area so there is not shortage of good Japanese restaurants). Staff: Their staff is friendly and courteous and they go out of their way to me you feel welcomed. They make sure your glass is never empty and attentive to your needs. Ambiance: They have a live piano player (sorry I don't know her schedule), who is pretty good. She takes requests and her music give the place a great atmosphere. Food: Their sashimi's are fresh and the potions are good. There is a sushi bar with boats that have the sushi that you can choose from. There are also tables throughout so there's plenty of room. The plates are color coded for pricing so be mindful of what you're getting because it can add up fast. Overall, this is a really good place. Like I wrote above, it's our go to place. Super disappointed with the All You Can Eat Korean BBQ. I was so excited that Redding finally has KBBQ--but alas. I went with 5 friends and this was worse than nothing. I will say that the quality of the meat was good, but that was about the only good thing. First of all, the service was SLOW. Like, really slow. The way this All You Can Eat works is you are allowed to order 3 meats at once PER TABLE (not per person), and once you finish those you order more. Unfortunately we had to wait as long as 20 minutes after ordering before the next round of meat actually came. So we just sat there, with nothing to eat as we had finished the previous round of meat long ago. Also--it's very common for an All You Can Eat place to have a time limit. This place is no exception. Only most places it's 2-3 hours, and here the limit is 1.5 hours. And I have never actually been held to this time limit, but sure enough, after 1.5 hours, our poor server came over and told us, "I'm really sorry, and I've never had to tell anyone this before, but you can't order any more food." So they will enforce the time limit, but bring you your food so slow that you don't actually get to eat that much... When this happened we asked her if we could still get the appetizers that we had already ordered and she said yes, but some of them still never came. So we left having not received things we ordered. There was a man (he worked there, probably a manager or something) who kept looking over at our table with a mildly concerned look on his face. He kept coming back to surreptitiously look at us. I think he might have been the reason things took so long and we got cut off. One last thing: there were only two sauces served. We asked for gochujang, the traditional KBBQ sauce, but apparently they don't have that. Never going back! I guess we'll all have to keep driving to the Bay for our KBBQ. read more

My first time trying Korean BBQ in Redding. My overall experience was pleasant. Our waitress Cecille & Sara and the waiter was super kind and attentive for our table. We dine around 7pm on a monday night, and it got super busy and seems a bit hectic but our waitress did the best they could with a smile. We walked in, three of us and were seat right away and given very used menus, waters with melted ice as if the waters were sitting for awhile, and then merely forgotten. Review on the K BBQ. Always been a fan of unli kbbq and happy to know that there's one in Redding. I recently relocated from the Bay Area and I think this resto can compete with the quality of meats they offer. Not a lot of variety but all looks fresh and good. The servers are very pleasant and sweet as well. I had to take out a star for the pricey price tag that seemed to be more expensive than usual k restos. Since this is the only one in Redding I'm still gonna go back for the good service and good food :) read more

HORRIBLE - you all can see my check-in's, posts and previous reviews here... tonight was AWFUL! Sat at the "boat bar" waiting and waiting and waiting for water and to order a drink. This was only offered when I flagged down a busser and that was about 15+ minutes in. The server never asked if we we wanted anything other than water to drink. Watched the boats go round and round with very few new and/or fresh selections. I finally ordered a roll off of the menu - it was okay. First off.... Don't listen to Lily G.'s terrible review of this restaurant. We saw the whole thing go down. Her red headed moustache wearing angry boyfriend yelled amd stormed out after his temper tantrum. Orders get mixed up sometimes, but no excuse to act so nasty! The sushi is fresh and very tasty, they do get the orders correct and all the sushi is prepared in front of you before it is placed on the boats. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the people who work there. We look forward to eating here again soon! read more

As locals, we come here every so often to see if things change with menu changes and time in general. The Chinese items are pretty good. However, the sushi has too much rice, and the rice is too mushy. The wait for the food is extremely long. We've waited over 30 minutes to get our food when there are only two other tables seated. They seem to prioritize to go orders. This is very frustrating. Making the food even more not worth it. My advice, go elsewhere. read more
