    Thai iced tea
    Daniela G.

After many failed attempts to go to Thai diner for dinner, I finally took the host's advice and came for a late dinner after happy hour and got seated right away. We had Thai iced tea, fried crab rice, dumplings and mango sticky rice, and the vibe there was really cool and trendy. I was super excited to be there! Would probably skip the dumplings next time and try a different main.

Normally this would be the place to go, not for great Thai food, but for fine Thai food. For "not far away" Thai food. However... small, overpriced bland pad Thai aside, this dark, hip place is special because it has some inventive food. We came for the Instagrammable "Disco Fries": a spicier, more Asian-er curry plate of fries, and they did not disappoint. The pad Thai was in need of heat and the acidity of an extra lime, but they offer fried chicken as a fun, crunchy, hearty upgrade. And if you are up for dessert, the coconut sundae (which is no fun after you eat the topping half) and the monster coffee chiffon cake (good, but very rich) are B- items on their own, but order them (and eat them) together and it's a deconstructed A+ dessert.

Stopped by with 4 friends and my husband for a quick weekday lunch in the city. Had to make a reservation a week in advance for a party of 6 at 12:30, and good thing we did because the place was popping already when we rolled up and folks were waiting by the time we left. Some very good Thai staples here, and the more fusion-y diner style options were fun as well. Top favorites were the khao soi, the cabbage wraps, and the Thai tea French toast. The khao soi was so creamy and the noodles/textures were great. Would probably get it with tofu in the future because the chicken was pretty overcooked from simmering in the broth forever. Cabbage wraps were savory and delicious, they really surprised me! The French toast has ground sesame in between the layers and is super Thai tea forward. Recommend splitting with a group so everyone gets a few bites because it's pretty rich. The fried chicken on the green curry rice was super well fried and the fried tofu on the pad see ew was also perfect. Dishes themselves were decent but would probably try other things in the future. Disco fries came with delicious massaman curry to pour over the top but were otherwise just okay. 4 at our table got Thai teas and they were not to sweet which was a plus. I got a mango shake and that was delicious. This place is an institution for a reason and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! I wouldn't wait hours just to eat here but the experience was great.

Delicious and unique brunch at Thai Diner!! My friend and I stopped by at around 10:00am on a Friday and there was no wait. I love the fun and vibrant ambiance! Service is quick and efficient. We ordered the George's Egg Sandwich and the Thai Tea French Toast to share. The eggs were a bit too runny for me in the sandwich, but I enjoyed the savory flavor. The French toast was to die for!! Such a decadent way to end breakfast. 100% recommend!

I love this place. From the atmosphere and decor, to the menu, to the staff and service, my visit was excellent. I definitely want to return to try other things from this inventive menu and also to try their breakfast options. I dined in for lunch and had vegetarian Khao Soi and the Thai Disco fries. There are lots of vegan and vegetarian option to choose from. The food was delicious and the fries were cooked perfectly. Every dish that passed by me looked impressive in presentation. If you are in the area, definitely try this place. You don't need a reservation, just try going slightly off of the normal busy dining times and on the weekdays to avoid the long wait.

Second time at Thai Diner and was seated at a table in less than five minutes for dinner on a weeknight. Brunch is definitely more of a wait and more popular but dinner didn't disappoint a second time. The lobster fettucini was my favorite along with the roasted chicken green curry rice which was moist (I would have gotten this over the fried chicken which felt over done). Mango sticky rice is so good and all chefs specials seem to be popular. Need my next review to be dedicated to their brunch!

I came here with a friend on a Thursday night for dessert. We arrived around 10pm and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We shared Uncle Boon's coconut sundae, which was coconut gelato topped with coconut caramel, whipped cream, toasted coconut, and candied peanuts. It was delicious (albeit a little difficult to eat due to the size and shape of the bowl).

I always see lines out the door here so I was really interested to try it. Sadly, food was not good. It ended up being about an hour wait time for us on a Friday night. We put our name down early and shopped while we waited. One plus is that staff is really friendly here. We ordered the disco fries and they were good, but not great. We also got a Phat se ew and a Green Curry Fried Rice and we really did not like either. I'd recommend skipping, this wasn't worth it

Veryyyy busy Thai spot but worth the wait. About an hour wait for a table for 2 on a Friday afternoon. We sat at one of the outside tables which is covered and wasn't terribly packed where we sat. We came specifically for one thing: the Thai cheesesteak. The flavor profile of this sandwich was absolutely insane; lemongrass but well balanced between spice, cheesiness, and other Thai flavors. It was a bit on the salty side but I'd still get it again. Also had the banana pudding which hit the spot.

I love this place with my whole heart. The Thai French toast is perfect with the melted butter along with the whipped Thai-flavored butter, the breakfast wrap has great texture and flavor, and the crispy rice with eggs are lovely. Service is great, just make sure to book a reservation because they sure do get busy.

Been wanting to try this Thai spot for a hot minute and finally did it. Went with one other person & I typically split one app and 2 mains with 2 people. Did that here and it was a perfect amount of food. Papaya salad is delicious. Light and refreshing which balances some of the heavier mains. For the mains split the Beef Shortrib Panang & Phat See Ew. Both good. Was the meal good? absolutely. Was it make me think about it for days after? No way. My take is that it's good Thai food, but there are about 100 other spots in NYC that are just as good but way less hyped. Note: Went back another time and the waiter SIGNIFICANTLY over estimated how spicy a dish would be. Said it was one of the spiciest dishes on the menu (Khao Soi) but it was about 2-3 in spice level. Waiter even convinced us to get the sauce on the side. Perhaps the waiter can't handle the spice. Don't underestimate your spice tolerance!

If you are among the many who were sad when Uncle Boone's closed, then Thai Diner will make you really happy. The folks who brought you Uncle Boone's are back with Thai Diner, which offers some of the same items as their predecessor but many new items as well. The only disappointing thing about Thai Diner is that you have to stand in a long line to get a table. They have some reservations, but they are hard to snag. So your best bet is to find a night when you have a little time on your hands and wait for a table. Must try chef specialties = Khai Soi and Crispy Flounder. Also good are the cliché Thai noodle dishes like Pad Thai and Pad See Ew (add fried chicken if you get one of these). Btw, if you don't like spicy food, Thai Diner might not be for you. I love for my head to sweat while eating Thai food... just saying. If that's not you, then you should talk to the waiter about the right options for you.

    Anushka M.

We were a party of 4 and walked in at 11am on a Saturday and got a table immediately. I started with thai iced tea which was good but definitely on the sweeter side than usual. I ordered the phat see ew with chicken as my entree which was average for me. There wasn't an option to make it spicy, but the waiter mentioned it comes with a chili vinegar sauce that can make it spicy. I still didn't feel it helped with spice, but it did add more flavor. Someone else in my group ordered the cheesesteak which I thought was really good. If I came back I'd probably go for that. We were seated in their patio section which was great especially when it's nice weather. Overall it was good, but I'd order differently if I came back.

We were greeted by very friendly staff members who, despite our early arrival, worked hard to get us seated as quickly as possible. The space's vibe is exactly what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Times Square area -- dimly lit, but everything was still visible, not too much noise while extremely busy, and very cozy atmosphere made super pleasant from such attentive, kind staff members. I was especially impressed by our server, Leena, who checked in with us regularly, gave excellent recommendations, and was clearly concerned about giving us an amazing experience. My wife and I ordered one of the seasonal offerings--a sweet and savory fruit salad--that was the perfect start to our meal. I ordered the massaman, and it was easily the best massaman curry I've ever had in the United States. Perfect spice level, the chicken fell right off the bone (even my wife, a vegetarian, commented on how clean the bones looked after I removed the meat), and the mixture of textures and flavors with the lotus seeds and onions really created the perfect dish. I am craving it just sitting here and writing this review! Prices? Honestly, I couldn't imagine a fairer deal given the quality of the food and service we received. I was utterly blown away. I cannot recommend Mitr Thai enough! I can't wait to return next time I'm in the city!

I first ordered the crispy spring rolls, which were very good. For my main I had the Massaman Curry. Now folks, this is my favorite curry of all time -- actually one of my favorite foods of all time -- and while it's common in LA where I used to live, it's not as common where I live now, in the Bay Area. And the restaurants that do carry it usually do not make it right and it's not very good. I am used to Massaman in the traditional preparation where it's more like a beef stew made with chunks of beef and needs to cook overnight. When done right it is the most aromatic curry ever -- it's almost like an aphrodisiac! -- and the beef comes out oh so tender. Usually if places have this curry but then offer a choice of protein, then it generally is not cooked properly, and that is actually how they prepare it at SaiTong. But because of such great reviews I decided to take a chance and try it. Well, let me tell you, it was definitely not the norm...it was absolutely delicious! I had it with chicken (they serve breast as default), and the chicken soaked up the curry really nicely. I also asked for there to be no onions, which I think alters the flavor of a curry too much. It does include the traditional potatoes and peanuts, and the potatoes were fine and cut into nice little chunks, the peanuts actually were thrown in raw.. what I think is the more traditional way which is to actually burn the peanuts a little bit, but that's okay, it didn't take down the dish any. Their brown rice is of the very dark kind, which I like, and goes so well with the curry. Service was wonderful from the bartender but was also provided by the rest of the staff and everyone was so nice. I left there feeling so satisfied, and cannot wait to go back and try some other dishes.

Fortunately, there were plenty of options near my Midtown hotel that offered quick delivery. Dagg Thai was just around the corner and had solid Yelp ratings. Less than 20 minutes later, the food was waiting for me in the hotel lobby. I ordered: * Cashew Nuts with Shrimp -- Bell peppers, onions, scallions, cashews, and dried chilies. * Dumplings -- Mixed shrimp and pork served with a soy vinaigrette dipping sauce. The Cashew Nuts with Shrimp had a flavorful, light sauce with just the right amount of heat. I really enjoyed it. My only disappointment was that the shrimp were battered and fried; I would have preferred grilled or pan-seared shrimp. The dumplings were more like shoo-mai than traditional dumplings. They were a bit dense but still flavorful and satisfying. Considering the quick delivery, the food arrived piping hot, and the excellent Cashew Nuts dish, this was an easy four-star meal.
