If you are among the many who were sad when Uncle Boone's closed, then Thai Diner will make you really happy. The folks who brought you Uncle Boone's are back with Thai Diner, which offers some of the same items as their predecessor but many new items as well. The only disappointing thing about Thai Diner is that you have to stand in a long line to get a table. They have some reservations, but they are hard to snag. So your best bet is to find a night when you have a little time on your hands and wait for a table. Must try chef specialties = Khai Soi and Crispy Flounder. Also good are the cliché Thai noodle dishes like Pad Thai and Pad See Ew (add fried chicken if you get one of these). Btw, if you don't like spicy food, Thai Diner might not be for you. I love for my head to sweat while eating Thai food... just saying. If that's not you, then you should talk to the waiter about the right options for you.

We came here for lunch during the weekday and managed to snag a tiny two person table by the door. Thai diner has been on my list for awhile and I will say everything was very good and did not disappoint in a city with so many great Thai restaurants. The standout for me is their Thai tea babka French toast which is pretty unique since you can't really get this anywhere else. We actually ended up saving this for dessert at the end of the meal and had to take some of it home because we were so full by the end of the meal. The crab fried rice and morning glory were also really good options but khao soi did not stand out to me as it was on the sweeter side. Service was also friendly and attentive! Ig: _acquired.taste

wanted to see what the hype was about and decided to come in a rainy day with hopes that the wait would be less. But it was still about an hour wait, however, they text you when the table is ready so you can go walk around the neighborhood while you wait. The food was tasty, we tried the disco fries, the dumplings, and the chicken Milanese version. The staff was nice but not as attentive because it's so busy, they should hire more staff. The decor is very nice and as someone that went to Thailand, I would say that it is very authentic and makes you feel like you are there. However, I have had much better Thai food at other places in the city.

I had been wanting to come to Thai Diner for years and finally managed to do so... and it lived up to expectations! There's usually a long wait to get in (you can also try getting a reservation), but I managed to only have a 20 min wait on a weekend mid-afternoon. I ordered the Coconut Chicken Thailandese ($28) - at first, I was not sure how impressive a single piece of chicken could be, but I'm serious when I say that was one of the most delicious pieces of chicken I've ever had. It was perfectly crispy with some nice coconut flavor on the outside and tender/juicy on the inside. There was also a generous amount of shredded green papaya on the side which perfectly added some fresh sweetness to the savory chicken. To make it even better, the sauce was a perfect combination of spicy and sweet, while remaining light enough to not overpower the other flavors. This is a perfect example of a seemingly simple dish cooked to perfection with the perfect complements. While the price was a bit on the high end, I had no regrets at all. What also really makes Thai Diner stand out is the unique decor and atmosphere. The environment resembles that of an old timey Thai diner (as the name suggests), with such interesting and tasteful decor and a great vibe. You can tell they really thought through every piece in there. There is also a nice heated and closed off outdoor seating area as well. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The service speed is also pretty quick. Overall, with that delicious chicken and the unique atmosphere, Thai Diner earns a rare 5 stars from me! I will definitely be looking forward to trying more of their dishes next time.

We had such a good brunch experience here! Everything was very tasty and would highly recommend each dish we got. The breakfast sandwich was a great twist on a classic breakfast sandwich. The crab fried rice was great and would be perfect for any meal of the day. The French toast was so good and perfectly sweet, a perfect treat ! The restaurant itself was so cute and cozy with fun decor. Staff was also so accommodating and helpful! Definitely recommend if you're seeking a more fun brunch experience!

This place appeals to my third culture kid soul, trying to make sense of ancestral and current tradition, by merging Asian flavors with American diner tradition. It doesn't feel like a poor Asian-American fusion or assimilation. Flavors feel uncompromised - spice, sour, funk, sweet, savory - and not a cheap assimilation, while packaging it in something familiar to every American. I feel like I could understand Chef Ann Redding's upbringing in this food. With that being said, the Thai Diner Egg Sandwich and the Cheesesteak Phat Bai Horapha are spicy, herbaceous, and savory. But the one I can never stop thinking about is the Thai Tea Elephant Ear French Toast (formerly the Thai Tea Babka French Toast). A great hit of Thai tea in the toast, fortified by the Thai tea butter, complemented by a slightly salty, sweet condensed milk. This dish excites me to my core.

Amazing brunch spot! The wait time can be long, so i would recommend putting your name down at the window and then taking a walk around the area. The inside is a little crowded and loud, but very cute. My friend and I ordered 4 dishes to try and split, and the waitress did look at us and say "uh.. that's a LOT of food" which was a little off putting. After reading a lot of the reviews, it seems like the service here is just kind of awkward. If you're willing to look past it I would still recommend the food. The crispy eggplant was AMAZING. A must order side in my opinion. The cheesesteak also blew my mind, and I would definitely order that again. The breakfast sandwich was solid, but not my fave. I think that their cinnamon rolls are one of the most popular brunch items, and I can see why.

Cool place, delicious and interesting food. This was worth the hour wait, we sat inside at the diner bar and the ambiance is super fun vibe. It's like tiki meets diner with Thai twist. The food was delicious and inventive. Everyone said get the disco fries and they were super tasty, the dumplings were also good, I think the snapper was my favorite entree. Definitely worth the time, very cool spot!

Very nicely decorated place, and just as busy as you would expect it to be. We managed to walk in with a short wait time at 5:45 on Friday for dinner. Space is tight so I wouldn't recommend this place if you want to catch up with a friend, it's more so a get in get out type of situation. Not to say that we were rushed by the servers but we were conscious of the small space and the long lines to get in. On the food itself, we really enjoyed the Beef Phat See Ew. Our other selected options, the Drunken Dumplings and the Thai Disco Fries were pretty underwhelming and we would not order those again. As for the cocktail, the Mr. Banana, it was just okay and again not something we would order again. I could try this place again another time, just to see if there are other things on the menu that interest me. Maybe I'll do the breakfast menu

The disco fries were quite good, I liked the way they were cut and the curry base/dip was tasty and had a unique flavor (especially combined with fries, I've never had fries w/ curry before!). The crab fried rice was also reasonably tasty, after mixing in the lime it was a nice mix of savory and tangy flavors. However, portions were super tiny and there was barely any crab in the dish. For $28, this might've been both the most expensive fried rice I've ever gotten and also the smallest portion of fried rice I've ever gotten - not a good combination. Overall, slightly disappointing given its hype (and price). Thankfully, I was able to walk in immediately for lunch as a solo diner due to available bar seating. Parties of 2 needed to wait over a hour long which I certainly would not do for here. The restaurant was very busy and loud, super hard to hear anything inside. I probably would not go here if I wanted to chat with a friend. 4.4/5

Thai Diner is always an experience. I love this eclectic restaurant and all it's offerings so when I saw the spicy thai basil style cheesesteak on social media recently I just knew I had to go get it for myself. My friend and I started with the Thai disco fries which are always such a hit. I love the monstrosity of the sauce that comes on the side now, and as always the toppings combined with this aromatic sauce are everything. This dish rightfully remains the star item of their menu for this reason. My friend ordered the cold chicken with coconut rice and I got myself the sandwich with the side of the baal salad. The salad was delicious and I especially loved that it didn't skimp on the avocado and the crispy rice was a very welcome textural surprise. The sandwich on the other hand, I found very salty. I loved the flavors and the Thai basil was coming in strong just how I was expecting it to, but the salt content was WAYYY overpowering. I also feel the bread could be toastier, it was way too soft when served. I took half of the sandwich home and warmed it up in an air fryer and it did taste better when the bread is crispy, but there is no saving that salt content. As always, Thai iced tea was on point here. Service is always quick and efficient and this time thankfully we were seated on a two top table that was a little bit more roomy than last time.

When you only have 3 nights in NYC, it's hard to figure out where you're going to spend those meals. We couldn't justify coming here for dinner, and I think it was too hard to get a lunch reservation. So we ended up settling on a Breakfast at Thai Diner, which sounds odd, but worked out incredibly well. We had a 9am reservation, which is when the restaurant opened. We were seated right away, and ordered and received our food quickly. We also didn't want to dedicate a whole meal to this restaurant, so we ate a few dishes here, and breakfast-hopped to our next destination in Chinatown. My husband was longing badly to come to this restaurant, as he remembers a while back, they had owned Mr. Boon's, a popular Thai restaurant in NYC (prior to Covid). That restaurant has now closed, and the owners opened Thai Diner. Thai Diner is quite adorable, a retro-diner turned Thai. Cute booths around the restaurant, of all sizes for big groups, 4 people, and 2 people! So fun. They also have regular bar-diner seats too. At Thai Diner, I ordered the Crispy Eggs Rice, and my husband got the Egg sandwich. Wow, I loved my Crispy Egg Rice!!! The eggs were basically sunny-side up, embedded into crispy rice. It seemed like they had made a flat "nest" of rice in the pan, and put the eggs in the middle like eggs-in-hole. They placed this over a Thai-herb salad, served with a fish-sauce dressing on the side. Man this dish was incredible. My husband enjoyed his Egg sandwich too, which came with egg, cheese, herbal sausage, thai basil wrapped in roti. Came with this hot sauce on the side - very good. We were so tempted to try other items, but didn't want to go overboard. There were also so many dishes that look great on the menu for lunch or dinner, that we couldn't order. Sigh. It's so hard - we'll literally just have to come here next time to try it. They have a separate lunch menu, and a separate dinner menu. We only got the tip of the iceberg of this restaurant, was how it felt. Sigh.

The service here was really friendly and helpful. When my daughter and I went it was a holiday so it was really crowded (non holidays/weekends are obviously have less crowds), and the seatings are really tight and close to the next tables. I particularly did not like they already pre-set the tip percentage when they brought the card reader, but I guess you can just change it if you don't like it. Other than that the food was delicious. Their roti is really good, and their hibiscus soy quail eggs in the Thai Continental was so good. Would definitely be back to try their other menus.

Considering the hectic 48hrs of non-stop traveling and celebrations, I would've been satisfied with a simple takeout meal to end the weekend but to my surprise, one of the best experiences of the trip was yet to come. Thankfully I was blessed with great friends to recommend this exceptional establishment known as Mitr Thai in Midtown Manhattan. Though the trip was centered around a wedding, my experience here instantly became the highlight of my trip to the City. One very genuine friend arranged this dinner, making a reservation for 3 for 7:30pm. To our surprise, we actually made it from Connecticut, walked from Grand Central and to Mitr Thai at 7:25pm even though they won't seat you until your entire party is there. After passing through the scaffolding, the restaurant has a two-door entry, one host after another, leading to a quaint but alluring lobby area. We were greeted by both hosts even though we were bogged down with luggage. The space was welcoming and had a sense of elegance as there was a blend of hardwood furnishings, low lighting and a heavy dose of Thai art/fixtures. For context: Labor Day Monday, at 7-8pm, there was a steady demand as the waiting bench remained full. There were even guests standing but even as more people came in, people were being seated at a consistent rate. Our 3rd friend arrived closer to 8pm and we were seated immediately. Our bags were placed in a small room behind the host podium and we were seated 20-30 meters from the door along the wall facing the bar. The menus were very comprehensive: large, descriptive and filled with graphics that left me wondering if I could try it all. I couldn't praise our server (Mindy) enough. She knew the kitchen, bar and any/all offerings like her own name. She had individual recommendations for each of us AND ADDITIONAL OPTIONS. I listened, ordered the Short Rib Prik Kang and indulged in a Verdant Whisper (Tequila, Cucumber, Lime). I'm not sure how but our food arrived less than 15mins later! The short rib looked good enough to make the entire restaurant jealous: the curry paste glistened in the light, the aroma called my name while the garnishes winked at me. To my disbelief, as good as it looked, it tasted even better! The sauce was robust, smooth, creamy & just spicy enough. Since the ribs slid off the bone, I mixed in the white mixed rice and ate it as a meal. I can proudly say I've never had anything like it. Oh yeah, the cocktail? Smooth, refreshing and relaxing. Worth every penny. I was elated with the overall experience and chose to pay for both of my friend's meals. My only regret is not having more to tip! Mindy gave us the table to chat for another 30mins but in the back of my mind I was still enamored from the meal. I had no expectations when I entered Mitr Thai but I left with a sincere amount of praise and admiration. From cuisine to the hospitality down to the furnishings, dining here was one of the best overall experiences I've had in YEARS. I cannot say enough about this establishment and I hope they Always Strive & Prosper.

I came here with a group of six on a weeknight with no reservations. We were seated immediately on the second floor. The restaurant had a chic, sophisticated interior, with black and gold accents and wood furniture. A large spiral fringe chandelier hung from the ceiling. While the environment indeed was upscale, the food still retained that cozy, home-cooked element known to Thai cuisine. I split the short rib curry and pork cheek with my husband. The curry was creamy with a kick of heat. The beef pull-apart tender. I'm salivating just thinking about it now. The pork cheek was delicious as well. It had the taste and texture of pork belly, which paired splendidly with the sweet and tangy fish sauce it came with. Others from my party ordered the masaman curry and a type of noodle (I think it was the pad kee mao?), and they all approved of their dishes. Fortunately for us, SaiTong's menu had plenty of crab on it, and we decided to double up and make each of our entree's a crab one. The black spaghetti crab curry and crab curry noodles advertised themselves as being very different dishes in both presentation and ingredients but ended up tasting kind of similar. One was topped with deep fried crab and used a different type of noodle than the other, but the sauces were so similar. This is not to say that they didn't taste good, but I would've preferred more variance. I'm glad we got an order of papaya salad to cut the richness of the other dishes, and I also appreciated it had a nice level of heat in it. Our servers were really friendly without being overbearing, and let us linger for a bit even after we paid the bill, as it was their last seating for the evening. There are so many excellent Thai restaurants in the city and I'd put SaiTong firmly in the category of perfectly solid spots to get your Thai fix, with some special dishes on the chef's menu worth checking out.

I had the Soft Shell Curry which was delicious. Definitely get with white rice. I wanted to take some of it to go, but it was soo good I ate it all! The spot looks great solo, on a date or with friends. I loved it. When I came it was slow. But towards the end, it was so crowded and had like 3 birthdays. Highly recommend!

The attention to detail -- fresh flowers, a discreet cultural altar, tamarind candy, navy cocktail napkins, gold silverware, and delicate plating -- was an absolute delight. We settled at the bar watching Kevin craft the most beautiful cocktails while sipping a few of our own -- pleased with every drop. The spicy crispy chicken rolls were chef's kiss. The ribeye garlic fried rice was bold, deeply savory & dangerously good. The chicken pad Thai struck a delicate balance between tangy and bright & perfectly restrained. If you find yourself north of Flatiron, and aren't feeling Korean - this little Thai gem shouldn't be missed; stop in on Mondays & Tuesdays

It does well with doing the whole "fusion" schtick without losing the essence and flavor of the dishes. Pad Krapoa Moo Krob, the meat on the pork belly was so juicy - the pork skin was crunchy and chewy at the same time, flavors of Thai spice, basil, and bell peppers harmoniously working together to bring a balanced meal. The shrimp basil fried rice was delicious, a great alternative if you're not feeling the crab fried rice. The service at Obao is always prompt and helpful, whether it's questions about the menu or recommendations, anyone is willing to help. Inside Oboa is dimly lit, a moody vibe that is fun and invites playful conversations.

The hostess stated how she had a long reservation list, but was able to get us right in! Once we sat down, our server, Spaghetti, came over to us. He was extremely friendly and took our drink orders right away. I ordered an Espresso Martini, and it was delicious. My father ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, which was extremely tasty. For our entrees, my mother ordered the Pad Thai, and my father and I ordered the Pho Bó. My mom absolutely loved the Pad Thai! The Pho Bó was incredible. The broth was so delectable, and it was honestly the best broth that I have ever had. The portions were also incredible, especially for the price and being in the city! Once we received the check, we noticed that next to the Pho Bó, it stated that it is Michelin Recommended, and we completely understand why! We are looking forward to going back!

Stopped by The Thonglor New York for dinner and ordered the pad kra pow with a fried egg on top…read more The egg is definitely a must for this dish! As a Thai person myself and as indicated on their menu, it's the way most Thais eat this dish :) The fried egg added that rich, runny element that really brings everything together. The veggies were nicely sautéed, fresh and still crisp, and there was a good amount of ground pork, so the dish felt hearty and satisfying rather than rice-heavy. Overall, the flavors were solid and comforting, though I personally found it just a touch sweeter than I prefer for pad kra pow. Even so, it definitely hit the spot and was very satisfying for a late-night craving. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the experience pleasant overall. One thing to keep in mind though is timing - if you're dining closer to closing, you may feel a bit rushed toward the end of your meal. All in all, a solid option for Thai food! I'd come back again (probably earlier next time) and would be interested in trying more dishes from the menu.

The flavor is sweet with a heavy red hue to it. I typically like my pad thai on the browner side if that makes sense. The peanuts add more depth of flavor for sure but it could also use a bit of spice and should've came with a lime wedge to cut the sweetness. Great portion size though & takeout service was fast. Also beware if you don't like tofu as it comes in the eggs that they add to the dish.
