I've been going to Thai Cuisine for over 20yrs & consider it not just the best Thai food but Top 3 overall dining experiences in all of Berks County! Everything is incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned which makes it hard to chose what to eat. My recommendation is either the filet topped w/ shrimp & crab meat over green curry or the lobster tail prepared the same way. It will be hard to do but save room for dessert because the fried banana w/ any of the speciality ice creams of the day is phenomenal! Hands down the best Thai food I have had in my life. I grew up in the reading area and this is nothing short of incredible. The Thai cuisine answers all of my questions. Of food and life, I find this individual habitat offers a segment of relaxation in the Berks County. It has fantastic flavors and the ambiance is cool and collected. The lights are low and there are themes of gold across all the walls and dinner napkins. There sconces with hushed lighting and beautiful tapestries. All of the home decor is uniform. Each of the food items have the ability to create a vegan or vegetarian meals. Go with the fried tofu option, it soaks up more flavor. If not, the flavor of the tofu with the cooking is still delicious. The texture of the tofu is better with a fried texture. The place is byob, very flexible. There is no cork fee. Make sure to find a good wine to pair with the meals. If you're up for it, ask for extra heat. read more

My fiance suggested we go here for Valentine's Day because he knows I love Thai food. I was skeptical, as I'm from Baltimore, and there are several Thai places within easy driving distance from me, all of them great. Unfortunately, I was right to be skeptical. First of all, the prices were outrageous. All of the main dishes were over $20, including the Pad Thai, which was $25. The Thai iced tea was way too sweet. I could barely manage two sips. The green curry with tofu I ordered wasn't green and was so bland I left most of it on my plate. (I picked up a Mod pizza on the way home because I was still hungry; and yes, it was better.) The spring rolls were decent, but not enough for me to ever come back. There was also a huge cobweb in a corner of the ceiling. One of the patrons at the next table over proclaimed that it was the best restaurant in town. If so, this town has one sorry food scene. Next time I want Thai food, I'll bring carry out from Baltimore. Even microwaved, it would still be better than the food here. read more

I used to really like this place. Over the past 2 years I've been here with different people and always with varying results. I like the inside. Sort of darkish, not too noisy. Bathrooms are clean. I didn't notice any Thai people working in the kitchen. The last few times I've been there my food has looked delicious but has lacked any real flavorful punch. I'm fortunate that I travel for work sometimes and I've had Thai at numerous other places, all of which have tasted better. There's another Thai place in Reading where I always have had better results. Phoenixville is the next closest but I understand Lancaster has a good one too. Nice place, but in the foreseeable future if someone suggests we go here, I'll pass or suggest an alternative. read more

The only good things I can say about this takeout experience is that the food was ready when I arrived, and the woman at the register was very friendly. Having a strong craving for Thai, but not having had any in this area before, I did a quick google search. I wish I had double checked Yelp. I ordered the (pork and veggie) Spring Rolls and Chicken Pad Thai. There was zero pork in the spring rolls, and so few veggies that it was basically like eating rolled fried dough. Whatever, who doesn't love fried dough? On to the entree. The worst pad Thai I've ever had. The chicken had the look and texture of having been boiled, and also tasted unseasoned. The odd variety of vegetables (red and green peppers, big slabs of white onion, and broccoli) tasted like they came from a frozen stir fry mixture. The noodles were white and oily and the sauce didn't have any flavor at all, let alone close to peanut - I honestly think it was just butter. My sister had the Shrimp Curry and although the sauce was more flavorful than mine, it was still very bland. Same vegetable mix as my Pad Thai. It was also packed in a loosely closed ball of foil inside the styrofoam container instead of something with a tight fitting lid, so the curry ended up spilling all over the bag. I've had better luck throwing together basic Thai recipes in my own kitchen that with this establishment. read more

It's not that the food at Thai Cuisine tastes bad. It just doesn't taste Thai. A previous reviewer (Nils J.) considered whether they use "real milk instead of coconut milk" in their dishes. The tom kha gai suggests to me that they do. Rather than the traditional coconut milk broth, the soup I had was definitely dairy-based. Also, instead of the spicy, warm peanut sauce salad dressing I've come to know and love at other Thai restaurants, the house salad at Thai Cuisine comes dressed with something akin to Ranch dressing (but sweeter). The abundance of fresh veggies in their food is definitely a plus, as is the cozy surroundings of this converted house. But even the lo mein-masquerading-as-pad thai I once had in Glasgow, Scotland tasted more authentic (Glasgow being too far north for any actual Thai persons to live, I'm sure). Price is another factor that separates Thai Cuisine from other Thai restaurants: this place is expensive, and you can expect to pay $60+ for dinner for two without drinks. If you need a Thai food fix and you just can't get out of the Reading area, I recommend Thaiwat in Wyomissing. The quality can be hit or miss, but their flavors seem more authentically Thai and their entrees are significantly less expensive. (No, they didn't pay me for the plug.) read more

It's never a great sign for a place when you need to ask the staff where your meal is an hour after ordering. Now, add that to cold appetizers being served, raw vegetables in your entree, and the waitress taking your meal away before you finish, and that makes for an awful experience. This place is very weird. It's like hippiefood went on a spiritual journey with thaifood and they had an illegitimate child. It's definitely not your average Thai food. They have all sorts of thai-style food, except instead of your standard fillers (you know, like rice and bamboo shoots and stuff), they use local veggies. It's kind of trippy eating thai-style food with shredded carrots and celery and stuff, and I'm not really sure whether I like it or not. Also, they have no concept of spicy, the food is pretty bland, and I think they use real milk instead of coconut milk (???). If you're looking for real Thai, you should probably look elsewhere. Decided to give this place a try despite the mixed reviews. We ordered a few different items to try, but most items left us less than impressed and the only reason I decided on 2 stars was because one items was halfway decent, otherwise it definitely would have gotten 1 star. We started out with the combination plate appetizer which includes; spring rolls, chicken wontons, fried tofu, chicken satay, and lastly shrimp and vegetable tempura. All fried items were limp, oily, and greasy. They lacked flavor as well. The chicken satay itself was not good, however the sauce that came with it was decent. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a sauce however an item was given as well served in a sauce dish, but it tasted like pickled cucumbers and carrots. I wouldn't use it as a sauce, but it was decent as well. Everything else I could have done without. Next we ordered Pad Thai Chicken, Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice, and Beef Curry with Peanut Sauce. The Pad Thai was pretty terrible to say the least. It was flavorless, the noodles were so sticky you could barely pull them apart to eat it and the chicken was kind of dry. No Pad Thai I have ever had. The Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice was not good either. The rice was extremely overcooked, so mushy you could have made wallpaper paste out of it. The Beef Curry was the only thing that we actually ate and actually wanted to eat. It tasted good and looked good. It was full of vegetables, tender beef and a coconut style red curry sauce. Slightly on the watery side for my liking, but overall was decent. After the meal we had, we definitely will not be back, I can imagine we will travel for thai food or suffer without it. Is this the place near the BJ's/Lowes? if so then yeah, I have had better. I was shocked at the lack of Thai people that work there. Waitresses were all-American blonde/blue eyed girls and the kitchen staff were all Hispanic. The food was OK, but it reminded me of when I attempt to cook Thai food in my kitchen. I know it's hard to find lemongrass and Kafir leaves in Reading - I try all the time. I guess this place is good for those who want to try Thai for the first time. It will break you in easy. I really struggled with deciding on 2 or 3 stars. Three stars to me is substandard but to Yelp it says "A-OK". Well I did not go away with "A-OK" feeling so I have to go with 2. First off the ambiance is really very nice. If you want to have nice atmosphere this may work for you. However that sort of ends when you go to the bathroom and the air in there is so thick with synthetic fragrances that I had to put a paper towel over my face to breath comfortably. I wish restaurants would just not do this, such a turn off. Just clean the bathroom properly and this will not be necessary. This place is really expensive. I wish I had read more reviews to tip me off as I may have chosen somewhere else. I mean $7.95 for a salad is not too bad but It was $15.95 for chicken pad thai!! And it was not a large serving. The salad was very good. The dressing was a peanut sauce, a bit scarce but that's okay because I know that is where all the calories (and sugar) is. Well unfortunately the pad thai did not live up to the salad. We asked to have "veggie" insteadof chicken. I told her egg was okay as that is what everyone asks me when I order veggie pad thai instead of chicken. Well what we received did not resemble the dish that I am familiar with and their was no egg. I've been to Thai restaurants, some of the best in on west coast and this was rather bland and not the rich dish that I am used to treating myself to on occasion. It wasn't bad but I suggest it be called something else (and served with some seasoning), it wasn't traditional pad thai. Also they charged us extra to split a plate. I know restaurants do this on occasion but it just seems unhospitable to me, and something that should be reserved for a really classy restaurant. We tried this restaurant based on the reviews so I thought I would provide a public service. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but the food was inedible. I eat a lot of Thai food, both authentic and "americanized". I ordered the Drunken Noodles and expected to get noodles. Whatever I got was not noodles, it may have started out that way, but it came out as mush/paste. The flavor was terrible (think sweaty paste). Texture was disgusting. I am not sure they were rice noodles, which I consider a requirement for Pad Kee Mao. There were 4 of us and we all had similar dishes with the same issue. I threw it away after 2 bites. Which was painful since it costs $16 which is off the charts expensive considering they didn't take the time to cook it properly. read more

Go-to for a night with my Girls. I typically get one of the curries (I'm a sucker for coconut milk) and several friends choose the Pad Thai - one friend won't even order Pad Thai anywhere else now bcs all others disappoint! What makes this place different is how insanely fresh the ingredients are. Extreme flavor and healthy presentation. We had cork less wine bottle so I guess charged for the 2 glasses which seems petty. Dessert a huge disappointment. Creme Brûlée in a small "mug", very dry, minimum Creme, charged $6.95. Definitely not worth this. Coffee was cold, sent back, returned scorched. Charged 2.95. I've visited this wonderful gem quite a few times. I love the atmosphere and the byob. The food has always been delicious and the service has always been amazing whether the place was full or if my date and I were the only ones in there. I don't think it's overpriced considering it's all good food. I mean, sure if you're cheap, then like a previous poster said, "go to a buffet." I have eaten in Thai places all around the world. In the US, most Thai places serve several versions of Pad Thai- yawn. This restaurant might not serve what most have come to expect at a Thai (American ) place and instead serves authentic food like Thais eat at home. Anything with the dry "red curry, ginger garlic" rub is simply out of this world. The use of a variety of fresh, fully cooked yet crisp and deeply colored vegetables is generally not the norm in other restaurants but here positively divine. The quality and assortment of fresh seafood is wonderful and the only real problem is selecting only one dish for dinner. The fried tofu in peanut sauce could turn any tofuaphobe into a tofu addict. Finally, the desserts are all great- particularly the dark chocolate layer cake served with tiny pieces of fruit or the coconut cake. I go there about once a month for lunch and have a standard choice that never disappoints.The owner remembers it, too when she sees me, which may explain why I cannot recall it now. I can see where from previous reviewer that I should not expect carrots or snow peas on my meal, but on the other hand, I really, really like the textures, flavors, the coconut sauce, fresh rice, and the serving size-- huge. There is not too much sauce, and not too much rice. The kitchen is efficient too; you order, and soon you get served. Sadly, I did not have a pleasant experience as a first time customer. I checked out reviews on Google and saw the menu on that page too. Next time I'll do even more research on other pages. When I arrived for my pick up order the bill was a little over $21 for chicken pad thai and thai tea. I questioned why the bill was so high knowing the price for chicken pad thai was $9.95 and tea around $3ish. The woman helping me, whom I assume was the owner, informed me the chicken pad thai was $16.95. I pulled up the online menu and she agreed it was the same restaurant. Then proceeded to handed me a menu to show me her pricing in restaurant. Also saying if I didn't want the meal to leave it...... Not very customer friendly or understanding of false advertisement. The woman was quite put off by my asking for a discount and reluctantly offered $3 back. And, when walking away said there are 2 other thai restaurants in Reading. I highly recommend her own recommendation of going elsewhere. As far as beverage and food quality: iced thai tea here is not traditional thai tea. It has whip cream and maybe cinnamon? I didn't even drink it. No tea flavor. The pad thai did have lots of veggies, but the sauce was no where near all the other thai I've experienced.
