I don't know why I keep trying this place when it routinely grossed me out. It's close. That's my excuse I guess, but no more. The fried rice is a weird yellow color, the egg rolls aren't fresh, and any of the sauces-sweet and sour, coconut, etc all taste like they were just dumped out of a can. This last order was IT for me. My chicken pieces tonight were dry and had black spots in them. Needless to say I didn't eat it, and I hope I'm not sick on the few bites I had. I'm not usually a harsh reviewer, but don't charge me $13 for black chicken. I just can't find any redeeming qualities to this place.

    Pad thai

Pad thai noodles were too thin and there was little taste. To be fair I didn't want "hot"

After dining out at a different local Chinese restaurant a few days ago and having a disappointing experience, it was a breath of fresh air to order the same food at No.1 Chinese Restaurant and enjoying what we ate. We ordered the Pork Lo Mein, Orange Chicken (requested crispy & sweet, not spicy) with roast pork fried rice, Fried Crab Rangoon, Egg roll, and Wings with Plain Fried Rice. I was so happy that the Fried Crab Rangoon came with sweet & sour sauce so that I could dip my egg roll into it. At the other Chinese restaurant, they had no idea what sweet & sour sauce was and offered me soy sauce and hot sauce instead. The Pork Lo Mein was a big hit with Joy. She was happy with the amount given even though she ordered a small. She noted it had plenty of vegetables, good flavor, and was not too oily. The only downside was that the pork seemed slightly overcooked and was rubbery in taste. The Wings were juicy, well fried, fresh, and made to order -- which takes about 20 minutes to prepare. The only issue was that it lacked flavor -- could not taste any seasoning such as salt or pepper or any marination. The Plain Fried rice was just that, plain, yellow, and slightly soggy. The Pork Fried rice was just average, nothing to write home about. The Orange Chicken was crispy, cooked perfectly, had lots of sauce, seemed fresh, but may of had too much breading and tasted more on the sour side than sweet. The Fried Crab Rangoon was crispy and had sufficient filling. One of the better fried crab rangoons I've had in awhile, but still has room for improvement. The Egg roll was packed, fried good and tasted fine. I was very pleased that this Chinese restaurant had fountain drinks and free refills. We will be back again to try new dishes at this restaurant in the future.

The food was too spicy, very greasy with no flavor. The shrimp lo mein and sweet and sour shrimp are very small shrimp. I'm never returning!

Clean and friendly. Rice was undercooked. I ordered fried rice and brown rice. They were hard. Might try again as they are close by.

Best Chinese American food in Berks. Always fresh, always good. No yellow rice masquerading as fried rice here. Just good food.

The food tasted great, but it does not make up for our poor customer service experience…read more The customer service is awful. I ordered over $40 worth of food for a family of 6. We wanted to try the cheese wonton, so we got an order of 6. I picked up the order, and drove home. When we went to eat the wonton, there were only 4, which is not enough to feed the group of six. We called to let them know that 2 had been missing. The woman apologized and said they'd replace them now or credit for next visit. We told them we were too far and would appreciate the credit. A few minutes later, a gentleman called and told us we were incorrect and it was impossible for there to be 4 wonton because there were 6 wonton in all of the bags they prep. We let them know there were indeed only four due to not having enough for our party of six. Later, ANOTHER woman called to once again say it is impossible for us to have only received 4 wonton and that it may have fallen in the larger bag or even in the car (which is impossible since I tied the bag walking out of the restaurant). It's very sad to lose a customer because they insist that we were incorrect even though we did not have enough for our entire group. The restaurant will not go bankrupt due to a $3 credit and just apologizing for the mistake. The issue was not resolved, and we will not be returning.

Worked at Chinese restaurant back-in-the-day when dishes were scratch made with a bounty of…read morevegetables. Now-a-days sickening sweet entrees, tasteless sauces, & barely a vegetable in sight force me to be a tough critic. Wong's is the best of what remains in the area. While it's not the cuisne of yesteryear, they do a good job on common dishes at a great value. Several visits & never a screw-up on the order. Sesame Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, & Pepper Steak, ordered large, containers were packed to brim, each dish had significant amount of meat. Beef LoMein was not just noodles but decent amount of meat & fair variety of veggies. Egg rolls are big and round, crispy not greasy. Fried dumpling order has 8 large dough pockets with ginger dipping sauce. $60, husband & I ate for 3 days off this order & were given free sodas to boot. Downside, they offer a very limited menu. You won't find Peking Duck, Crab Rangoon, Sweet & Sour Pork or even fortune cookies. But I'll take a few things done well over a large menu poorly executed. Take-out only.
