Food is overall very good. The seafood is kinda scary especially the crabs. The lobster claws are way over-cooked and rubbery. Their prices went up recently too and ends up being $30 a person. The worst is how aggressive the waitresses are with tipping. They will stand over you and watch you sign the receipts and act really aggressive if you don't give them what they want. They will also not ask to split the bill so they can get a higher percentage on everything combined. Genuinely intimidating. read more

If I could rate a 0 out of 5 I would. This disgusting business preys on customers who are unable to speak English with unethical sales practices. My family visited this business after their meal where their server never even refilled their drinks and was inattentive was forced to tip their waitress. When my family said they didn't have cash for a tip the server refused to let them leave and held them hostage until they tipped. My family doesn't speak English and out of fear compiled. I called to complain and the MANAGER instructed me to commit bank fraud and file a claim with my credit card company. This business is scamming customers and encouraging us to scam our banks as well. I visited this buffet for the first time in a few years yesterday for the Sunday seafood buffet, and I was impressed with how all the hot foods were hot, cold foods were cold. I had the honey chicken, green beans, sweet and sour chicken, coconut chicken, grill steak, cheese wontons, seafood shell, a dumpling, and for dessert, apple pie (which was kept warm in a slow cooker). My fiancé and I drive an hour to come to this buffet. We love this place! Many selections of Chinese, American, and Japanese hibachi. They also have a soft serve ice cream machine with cones. They also serve the dinner menu all day on weekends and even have snow crab legs. Be careful to make sure the food is hot as some of the selections were a little room temperature. Took a rest stop on the way to Lancaster at Reading on a Sunday. All day Sunday dinner $14.95 with crab legs and lobsters. All other weekday dinner include crab legs only. Pro: - clean space. They replaced trays even they were only half empty. - lots of selection. They have a deep fried area with all the chicken nuggets, egg rolls, French fries etc. I do enjoy the cheese wonton aka fried rangoon. Also has habachi but I didn't try. -located at a shopping plaza. Plenty of parking. - food tastes okay but not the pricy items like lobster or sushi. Crab legs ok. Con: - like most Chinese buffet, do not expect any lobster or crab legs unless you wait there and be the first two. They brought out like two lobsters cut up every 15 min or so. And somehow those lobsters were all missing the tail meaty parts. Worst of all, the lobsters were rotten. Two claws I had were black inside. (See picture). I brought up to management who was apologetic. No compensation offered but I wasn't looking for that anyway. Management needs to know customer's complain. Next batch was edible but still not fresh. Gave up on lobsters. -saw a whole metal can of tapioca pudding ( labeled tapioca pudding ) poured into the tray. Really 'fresh from a can'. -Bathroom was actually nicely decorated but not maintained. One time I went in a kid was vomiting next stall. There was a smear of you know what on the stall floor. And overall it smelt like #2. - you can skip the sushi/ sashimi. Not fresh but didn't look bad at least. - coconut shrimp was chewy. Overall, this will be my last time here. Price is not the cheapest. Food cleanliness is doubtful. Wow! Such reviews! My GF and I were there a month ago. On a Wednesday afternoon. Everyone was polite. To this old white couple. (Senior discount). No one looked like they had a bad time. And it seemed that the menu improved with steamed mussels being served. Clams had been there before. And shrimp. Good entree variety. All with a great taste. With the closing of our usual, the Super King Chinese Buffet in Wyomissing, trips to grandma's house for Chinese food would never be the same. A quick Yelp pointed us to 5th Street's Jumbo, so off we went. And yes, like other Yelpers, we were impressed. Here's why. 1. It's the Godzilla of food. Ok, wrong country, but you get the idea. There are about 7 or 8 serving island areas, loaded with as wide a variety of Chinese-y foodstuffs as possible. There's lobster, shrimp, about 10-15 types of sushi, and a good-looking hibachi stir-fry. Favorites for our family included the perennial General Tso, the lobster (one-half lobster is included in the price; extra halves are $3 each), walnut shrimp, sushi, and interestingly, I liked the seaweed salad. The only thing we were hoping to see were the crab legs...they didn't make a showing. You want it? You'll probably find it. 2. It's clean. Bathrooms were snazzy, modern, and well-attended. The buffet lines were stocked, clean, and constantly attended to by staff; tables were kept clean by an active wait staff. No furballs under the tables! 3. It's BIG, in terms of seating area. There were four seating areas, although on this Sunday night only one was open. I doubt you'd ever be told there's a 20 minute wait to get in. The only drawback was the prices, which were higher than the Super King. I believe prices for dinner pushed $14 per person, with our bill for three adults and three kids hitting near $70. That, my friends, is prohibitive. Can't say well be racing back because of the bargain prices. In my mind, this is the Shady Maple of Chinese, Pagoda style. If you are willing to make sure that you get $14 worth of food in your gullet, you're in for a treat. As for us, I'm sure we will be back, but the distance and the price will make it worth checking Yelp for other alternative buffets. read more

This place was pretty good. Whenever I'm on the road, my friends and I love finding buffets, ESPECIALLY Chinese buffets. Being the second Chinese buffet we've been to in Pennsylvania (the first being in Philly), we had to try this one out. I love going to busy buffets and this was definitely one. It wasn't shoulder-to-shoulder, but it was busy enough to let me know that the food was good. I had a little bit of everything. The sushi bar. Oh~ If I could have lived at the sushi bar I would have, but there were so many things to try! The mussels were the best in my opinion. The squid, the oysters, the chicken on the stick - it was just too good! The veggies were crunchy, yet cooked. All the sauces were amazing. And the fruit! I'm normally not a dessert person, so I go for fruit. I literally had no room in my stomach, but I had to try the mango. I was really expecting the mango to be completely bland and nasty, but it was so sweet and the texture - it was like it was ripened right on the tree and picked fresh that day. It was amazing. Had a plate of bananas in this sweet red sauce (can't tell what berry), cantaloupe, and strawberries (which were super sweet, too!). And don't get me started on the plantain. They were a little greasy, but they reminded me of my childhood. They were just that good. Unfortunately, I only took a few photos because I was focused on shoveling food in my mouth. Oh, my poor diet. lol The only problem I can say I had was with the server. She was super pushy. We were seated in a room with another table and no one else. The rest of the restaurant was busy, but our room was quiet and comfy. I would have understood her behaviour if the room were full, but it wasn't. Plus, she legit just served us water and that's it. Another server did everything else, but she took his tips. It was weird. I hope we don't have her again. If we're ever in Reading again, which is very likely, we'll be hitting this buffet up again... and again... and again. :D read more

On our way to Shocktoberfest, we decided to stop by for a quick dinner at a chinese buffet that was recommended to us by a friend who works for a uniform cleaning service. It was not recommended for the food, but because it has one of the cleanest kitchen areas in Reading. And it did not disappoint. Not only was the buffet selection huge and varied (mongolian bbq, sushi bar, two dessert tables, eight buffet lanes), but the food was fresh, well-prepared and legitimately good. I particularly enjoyed the tomato and avacado shrimp, and the creamy breaded crab served on a seashell. All the standards were there as well, minus the oily, greasy feeling of most buffets. And what shocked us the most was that the buffet sushi was actually good. Not simply "good for a buffet", but sushi that forced me to grab an entire plate's worth. Slices of eel on rice, spicy salmon rolls, a tuna roll with mango, and a loaded california roll with eel and avocado slices on top. Better than a lot of local sushi joints. Worst customer service ever! I was not greeted when I walked into the restaurant. I was led to the back of the restaurant with all the other ethic people were located. The chicken started to move on my plate. The fish leaped off my plate into my TAP water that cost $2.59. The server (WHO DID NOTHING BUT PICK UP PLATES) expected me to tip! Huge sushi selection, seafood, fried foods, chinese food, hibachi, salads, fruits, etc. etc. They had blue crabs , and shrimp, and clams! The sushi variety was really good, although many of the rolls seemed like variants on the california roll. Everything was around grocery store sushi quality. They had salmon sashimi, but it wasn't the greatest. Also, my friend got a fish bone, so be careful. The service was a little weird though. They handed us the check early and stood there and waiting for me to give them a credit card. And then when they returned, they hovered and waited for us to tip.
