When I was a kid there was famous tourist stop on the way to Tahoe from the Bay Area called the Nut Tree. It was basically a restaurant with a huge gift shop, a toy store and restaurant that was so popular you'd have to wait an hour to get in. As a kid I loved it and I've develped a fondness for these touristy restaurants. Not tourist traps because those are usually overpriced and not good. Millers Falls into that category for me. It's a gigantic restaurant with several adjacent stores and lots of branded items. But the attraction of course is the smorgasbord. Yes, that's essentially a buffet if you're reading this from one of my home towns on the west coast or Southwest. The place is huge and you'd think it might be slow to get or confusing but it's extremely well run. There are multiple stations such as Salads, Local Favorites, Appetizers and the ubiquitous carving station. I'd say stay away from the carving station; the roast beef was dried and a little tough. But everything else was great and very fresh. Some highlights included brown butter noodles, chicken pot pie (sortof a dumpling) Cabbage bake and ham balls. All the regional PA specialties are really delicious. The pickled eggs, pickled beats and spicy gardinera were yummy too. A gooey oatmeal pie was a delightful and delicious desert, but there were dozens of deserts to choose from as well. The wait staff were friendly and super efficient. The service was excellent except for one thing that ultimately annoyed the heck out of me. Having never attended one of these buffets, I wasn't aware of all the idiosyncrasies connected with participation. When we sat down we were immediately approached by a very pleasant smiling server. Her first question was whether or not we had ever frequented Miller's before? We said that this was our first time. Question #2 -What can I get you to drink? She then rattled off all kinds of soft drinks. We asked for a raspberry tea and an unsweetened tea. She kept our glasses full throughout our lunch. I was surprised to see a charge of $3.99 per drink added to our bill. Now I don't consider myself cheap. BUT, please say "would you care to order some beverages? Since this is your first time drinks are not included" The food was possibly a step above a college cafeteria. When i asked one of the food attendants "where's the beef"? he replied only on weekends. If you like pork and ham you're in good hands- they had what looked like a compressed turkey breast as well. The potato soup was very good and the fried chicken acceptable. So i was looking forward to the desserts. I love cherry pie so i took a piece and a piece of yellow cake with chocolate frosting.. You have to understand they cut 10-12 pieces out of a pie, small servings. After one bite of each as i pushed them both aside my wife had a stunned look. Knowing they are my favorites she was shocked i wasn't eating them. They were absolutely not worth the calories. BTW the coffee was lukewarm and the cup size was 4oz. at best. Well, I was hoping for a better experience. I was contemplating giving a one but opted for a 2 as I'm sure it can be a lot better unfortunately, I experienced the not so good. The price honestly is way too high for what you get. It was $41 with a drink for lunch, not typically what I'll spend and in this case way overpriced. I did like the carving station with the ham. The peel and eat shrimp was good and the fried chicken was good, but not warm and very limited on selection of the pieces. The sides were OK maybe they just weren't my thing. The entryway is really cool. The server only brought drinks so not a lot of interaction there. I think it has potential, but for some reason, I did not get the full five star lunch. They are charging $31.99 per person plus if you want a non-alcoholic beverage $3.99 on top of $31.99. This place has really gone downhill in my opinion. I have been coming here since 1977 and through the years my wife and I have been coming to Lancaster probably about 4 to 5 times a year. We even visited when kids came along and now the past 15 years we belong to the American Music Theatre so we come to about 8 shows a year. We didn't only go to Millers but they are in top 3 restaurant. It just feels like prices and new ways to charge has gone up. Just disappointing. I'm aware of other restaurants have raised prices. We were on the way home from a softball tournament in PA and wanted to experience a Smorgasbord. We got lucky and Miller's Smorgasbord was on the way home! Ambience - I see that others described the decor as "vintage" and that would be an accurate description. The dining room and buffet stations are a little dimly lit. Food - this is the main reason people come here and it did not disappoint. There was a lot of variety and the food quality is generally 3.5 stars. Nothing really jumped out as outstanding, but everything was generally slightly above average in quality by buffet standards. I think this place is really good. I probably could've just gone for just the unlimited soup and salad. The ham and bean soup was delicious and the seafood bisque was tasty too with a nice sherry flavor. Salad bar had everything I wanted and the hot bacon dressing was a nice touch. Service was great, plates were cleared and glasses of ice water were always full. Fave hot dishes were the spicy peach chicken, the spiced shrimp, fish, burgundy beef and shrooms and the ham meatballs. We tried the dessert but honestly we were so stuffed I couldn't really enjoy it too much. Only things I didn't care for were the roast beef (tough) and the scalloped cabbage was too saucy. Mashed potatoes with either turkey or beef gravy hit the spot. I'd go back here next time I'm in the area. I didn't try the fried chicken but it looked delicious. We had heard good things about this restaurant with many saying it was better than the more popular one. We did enjoy the food but we definitely liked the other better. The restaurant is very big and there was so much food to pick from! I enjoyed everything i tried but the two problems I had were the drinks do not come with your meal but instead are a separate charge. The other was the fact that it seemed very crowded around the food area and hard to pass others. If i had to pick between the two id go to the other because it felt much less crowded. This was my first time visiting and until now I've been going to the more popular one in Lancaster. However, after this visit, I would say Miller's is better! While the selection may be slightly limited, the quality makes up for it. They also offer just the right number of selection for my personal liking. The service was great, we got seated right away and our waitress was awesome! She was attentive and prompt throughout our entire meal. Millers is a great spot for families and individuals. They do accept reservations which I think is unique ! Food wise, you really can't go wrong! My favorite pair was the fried chicken, roast beef and broccoli salad!!! We stopped by Miller's Smorgasbord for Sunday brunch, and it quickly became a new favorite for our group of four. This all-you-can-eat Amish and American buffet really delivers. From brown buttered noodles to the carved roast beef and perfectly crispy fried chicken, everything we tried was fresh, hot, and delicious. Service was just as impressive as the food. Our plates were cleared promptly and drinks were always refreshed without having to ask. Compared to other local Amish buffets like Shady Maple, Miller's felt calmer, more organized, and overall a better dining experience. Of the over 3 dozen items to choose from on the buffet line, we had our favorites. The fried chicken was crunchy and seasoned just right, the roast beef was tender and carved to order, and we loved the tangy broccoli slaw. Don't skip the desserts either, ie. homemade pies, cakes and cookies. What can I add after almost 800 reviews? Well... Unpopular take #1: There are plenty of healthy options here No one talks about it but there is a legitimate salad bar. Lots of greens, vegetables, healthy stuff. And it's fresh. If you don't want to feel completely fat from eating here, start with a salad. Unpopular take #2: The best things on the buffet aren't the things people talk about Such as: - Homemade turkey salad - Potato stuffing (mashed potatoes that taste like stuffing...?) - Raisin bread-pudding (using the day old homemade raisin bread, super buttery and sugary) Unpopular angle #3: It's not always super busy I ate at 11:30am on a Wednesday, right when they opened. Probably 20 other people in the entire huge place. No wait and no lines at the buffet. If you have control over your schedule, just make your own life easy and go when it's not busy. This was run like a well oiled machine. Folks had their roles and performed them well. The food options were plentiful. We both enjoyed multiple items. In honor of Pi Day, 3.14 today, I was challenged my favorite Pie place. Favorite Pizza pie, I could do all day long, but Pie as in apple, pecan, pumpkin, etc., it's not really a normal thing I eat. However, I've been to Miller's Smorgasbord 3 times with my parents, twice for Thanksgiving & the first time was in March 2022 and again in October 2022. My parents live in Lancaster, and this is their favorite Smorgasbord. March 2022 & October 2022: My parents had the winter season coupon for BOGO that was expiring soon and happened to be up visiting. Wow, this place is awesome! It's a massive buffet with various hearty Amish types of foods from mashed potatoes (which are outstanding here), raisin bread (another specialty), other various sides & meats, as well as dessert. Also, gotta give a shoutout to the awesome fried chicken. We revisited for my mom's birthday in October as you get a free meal on your birthday. They are closed on Sunday; so if your birthday is on a Sunday, you can go the day before or after. Thanksgiving 2023 & 2024: They have a great Thanksgiving spread; all the traditional Thanksgiving items, their famous mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, etc., but also their other items like the raisin bread, and prime rib is added to the mix. There's a ton of food. There's also always the desserts (Thanksgiving & other times), which deserve their own paragraph. It's a big bar of various Pies...apple, pecan, & even Shoefly pie, a delicious Amish favorite of mine. But for traditional Thanksgiving, pecan is my favorite. Their Pies & other desserts are excellent. You can get your Pie, with a person that scoops ice cream on it making it A la mode (the fancy French way of saying stick some ice cream on that sucker!). Other General comments: The place is huge, but it's still a madhouse especially at Thanksgiving. Even in March 2022, I came hungry as we wanted to go for dinner, but they were full. Reservations are recommended. So, we ended up going to the weaker Cracker Barrel relatively close. And you might have a reservation, and it could be another 30 minutes at Thanksgiving. But the staff is nice, servers are friendly, get refills in a timely manner. There are a lot of areas for seating on the 360 degree buffet area, that's a huge circumference, radius, & diameter around this circle (again in honor of Pi Day). read more

I am a fan of Miller's. They live up to their slogan; real. Good. Food. The staff is friendly from the reception to the servers. When you first arrive, you check in with the front. Make sure your whole party is present because they have a time limit that starts as soon as you go in to enjoy the buffet. The food is excellent all around for buffet. Clean, fresh, and delicious. I do love my ayce fried chicken! The place has an old school vintage feeling but it's clean. I personally think Miller's is better than shady maple but; that is of course, a personal opinion. The ambiance is very nice... 3 stars because as my nephew was eating this Waitress SASHA came over to tell us to leave because she needed the table for a party of 7 The 4 of us were SHOCKED! She said you get an hour and a half to eat so she stands there staring at my nephew as he's eating his dinner mind you he hadn't gotten to dessert yet. I told her we are here just an hour... Imagine spending about $200 and this SASHA tells us to leave... she upset my sister and ruined a reputation for this restaurant. They need to give her a lesson on courtesy and politeness... She never apologized only walked away say " fine I will just figure it out like I always do" Thank goodness Derek came back and apologized and said that is not their policy. What a pleasant experience! Came here with a party of 5 I highly recommended reservations. I can't say that there was anything I didn't enjoy, everything was scrumptious. Even with the restaurant closing at 8pm the buffet was filled with fresh hot food. Our waitress did an awesome job as soon as you were finished the dirty plate was gone. We didn't want to leave Lancaster, PA without trying Amish fried chicken and desserts from Dienner's Country Restaurant. It was recommended to us. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed on Labor Day :( Luckily, we found Miller's Smorgasbord on the same road as Dienner's. Miller's restaurant has been in business since 1929. The buffet has a variety of food options such as seafood, roast beef, fried chicken, oven roasted Turkey, soups, salads and desserts for $28.99. Our favorite was the fried shrimp, roast Turkey, fried chicken, Mac and cheese and crispy French fries. Reservations are recommended. Our wait time was only 30 minutes. We went to Miller's the day before Easter, 2026. Pros- We made reservations and check in went fine. Our server was very friendly and attentive. It was actually a more cozy place than I recalled. We were seated near a wall so we didn't feel cramped as some mentioned. The rolls were approved by our group. I didn't try them. My husband loved the cheesecake and the roast beef. My nephew loved the bread pudding with the icing. Several in our group enjoyed the mushrooms. Cons- a number of items we found to be barely warm. The mashed potatoes felt actually cold and tasteless. The macaroni and cheese had a topping of dry breadcrumbs, no flavor and it didn't taste cooked! I enjoyed the ham balls but others in our group felt they were a bit too sweet. A younger member of our group ordered lemonade. After taking several sips, he said it tasted bad to him. His mother said it smelled like a lemon cleaning fluid. My main issues are that it appeared they were using up old things so the freshest items would be available for the Easter dinners. 3 in our group went to the "warmed pie" area for Chocolate pecan pie. We were not given warm pie and not one was chocolate! Worse each of us said the server gave us the last piece in the pie plate. So they apparently were in fact using up the old pies! We were an early seating so they didn't use up that many before us they were from another day. My daughter was given a piece of apple pie that was dry and looked as if it was thrown on the plate. It did not resemble a piece of apple pie. My experience at the warm pie location was waiting behind a woman who was being given her request requested order. As I waited patiently and others came behind me a man walked up behind the woman, although a line was formed to the woman's left. The server looked right at the man and said can I help you instead of saying "who is next". I was one in our group who asked for the warm chocolate pecan pie. He took out one plate from the "warmer" and threw that plate with the piece in the trash. He then removed a second plate which also had only one piece left and gave me that piece. Clearly, these were not freshly made but leftovers and for some reason we're not even warmed. When I went back to the table and tasted it, it was neither warm nor chocolate! The man at the warm pie area lacked any friendliness, although I always go out of my way to be gracious to everyone I meet. The yellow cake with chocolate frosting was dry and clearly not freshly made. Extremely disappointed that they chose to give patrons on the day before Easter all of their leftovers instead of freshly made food. My guess is the items available on Easter will be a much different quality. I saw reviews on YouTube saying that some of the staff were not friendly and that some of the food was not hot and not as flavorful as other buffets. It has been a number of years since we were last at Miller's and we will not go back. There are so many others available in that area, which we will try instead. In summary, the food was lackluster, bland and not hot enough. The ambience was nice and we were able to have conversations at our table easily. Our waitress was very nice. The gentleman at the pie warming location, really put a damper on my opinion of the staff, especially after reading and watching reviews which also highlighted that issue at Miller's. Very clean buffet. Sometimes I get grossed out by a buffet when food is spilled everywhere. Miller's they kept clean. They offered full buffet, or soup and salad for two different price points. Then unlimited soda, tea, coffee and juice for another cost. I did not get pics but my favorite part of the buffet was the homemade soups. The soup I tried was a cheeseburger potato. Unique option that tasted really good. I believe they offered six to eight soups. At the carving station turkey, roast beef, and ham were offered. Sadly another place in Lancaster that has lost all its original charm. Surprised to see construction in lobby and a tacky looking bar being built in place of the country store. They state they are open until 8pm and will gladly seat you and take your money, but by 7:30pm they are breaking everything down. Food was not at all what it used to be, beef was dry, sides were watery, and stuffing was an undercooked soggy mess. Most workers didn't even want to help you, not like years ago. My husband and I recently took a trip to Pa. When we go we always make sure to stop at one of our favorite restaurants Miller's Smorgasbord. Miller's never disappoints. The restaurant is clean, the food is fresh with a huge selection of soups, salads, entrees, carvings and desserts and the staff are always friendly and helpful. This visit was extra special as we had the pleasure of a wonderful waiter named Alex. Alex was friendly, kind and helpful. He made sure to frequently check on us and made sure all our needs were met. Went to Amish Country and we were craving Amish food which has been tough since our favorite farm to table restaurant closed. We had heard good things about Miller's and thought we would check it out. We saw several Amish families go in so are expectations were set high. Food was good and buffet was All you Can Eat so bring your appetite. This reminded me of Smorgasbords we visited when I was a kid. There were a lot of choices and to be honest have not seen so many food choices in my life. I have a hard time at all you can eat restaurants so focused only on a few items.... The mash potatoes were real and so good. They had a meat carving station with several choices and I opted for the Roast beef which was excellent. I also had Fried Chicken which was good. They had a huge selection of desserts but was not a fan of the desserts offered. Especially with them charging $31 for the buffet and $4 for a drink seperately makes this an outrageous tourist trap, or a place for old people with coal miner tastebuds. Overall it was a good experience. I will readily admit that for the price, I expected better. Price was honestly a buzz kill. The food was not anything fancier than you would get anywhere else. I enjoyed a piece of fried chicken and brisket, hand carved at the carving station. The brisket was nicely marbled. I accompanied this with mashed potatoes. They were genuine mashed potatoes, but flake potatoes were also available for those who like them. The salad bar was well stocked and vegetable offerings were fresh. The lettuce was not wilted. The desert bar was fabulous though I did miss the chocolate pecan pie. There was an entire cheesecake gallery, which came close to pushing my review to five stars. The waitress was a bit abrupt at some points. She may have been having a bad day. Parking is ample, but in an odd spot, making it necessary to walk a bit to get to the entrance of the smorgasbord. Restrooms were very clean and properly stocked. There is plenty of ancillary shopping opportunities on site. The business is along a very busy highway, so ingress and egress can prove difficult at times.
