Not wanting to wait to eat outside at the inn proper, we made a beeline to the pub where you ordered at the bar and grabbed a seat. Or vice versa. The menu had a delightful selection of traditional English pub fare it and what arrived was also elevated. The smoked fish dip was outstanding and was reluctantly shared. As it lost its chill the flavor opened up and was meant to be paired with a mellow stout. The watermelon salad was also not too shabby and the candied walnuts carried the day. We ordered two different pies - Shepards and chicken and leek. Both arrived piping hot and came with a small salad. They were also similarly reluctantly shared. Sitting by a window you could also watch the world go by. Too full for the sticky toffee pudding, it's just a reason to return. We remember when this venue was the General Sutter, so when considering options for a 90th birthday lunch, Lititz Springs Inn filled the bill with availability, reservations and nice ambiance for a special gathering. The handcap ramp out front is STEEP. Be ready to put some muscles to use. Upon entry is a lovely seating area with fireplace. Our table was ready and set up to seat the 12 of us. Our waiter was friendly but was also working several other tables in addition to our large group. Some of us began with cocktails from the adjacent bar. We had some little ones with us who were very well behaved considering their food came out with ours, and none too quickly. My mom, the honoree, was miffed about the length of time it was taking to get drink refills and our food, but I wasnt too bothered. About 2/3rds of us really enjoyed our food. I got the Scottish Egg as an appetizer and it was perfect. My meal was ok, not as tasty as it was described. One of us asked for rare walked through the flame and running red, and he found it overcooked. So it was sent back and removed from our bill. The total was in the mid$300s with gratuity added. Everyone said they enjoyed the meal. The set up of a long table made it difficult to converse but I guess that is to be expected. Parking is on street here in lovely Lititz so the location is on the corner with an attached pub. If you're all about atmosphere, then you've come to the right place. It's cozy, but that's all it's really got going for it. Food is expensive, and it took a while for us to be seated, despite making reservations long ahead of time. And then another hour of waiting after ordering for dinner to arrive. While the server who attended us was friendly, they didn't check in with us much and we had to keep going to the bar to ask for more water while we talked and waited for our food. Perhaps it was because we were seated in a blind spot, but between the long wait and tiny lukewarm meal (I ordered a shepherd's pie), I was not impressed. The town is a gem though, so I do recommend visiting it. But if you're hungry, you might want to find somewhere else as you may be in for a wait. read more

4th time here and each visit the food is delicious and unique! Today I had a mint basil smoothie, so refreshing as we were seated outside an a warm day. The wrought iron rockers were fun! Our app was a mini tomato pie as we couldn't forgo the signature dish that always meets our expectations. Herbed biscuits with various compound butters and biscuits and gravy rounded out our meal. I'm not sure What it really was because I tasted only alcohol and no margarita. The fish and chips were good could have used more Tatar sauce. Food was amazing, drinks not so great. We stopped out to Lilitz for my birthday and saw their inviting outdoor seating and we immediately stopped over for a table. The staff seemed rushed and overwhelmed, but they were accommodating. They did not have a drink menu, but said they can make whatever we requested. We did simple mojito and another drink I can't remember. They were not very good, it tasted very watered down. I did not drink mine, but did not send it back because I did not want to add more stress on the staff. We ordered a mix of appetizers because we were not too hungry. We choose the charcuterie board, fries, and a Mushroom dish. The charcuterie board wasn't memorable, so I'd suggest skipping it. Not worth it for the price. The fries appetizer was amazing! I think the side dips made it taste so great! They all seemed house made and made the fries taste epic. Lastly, mushrooms appetizer was small but had a powerful bite. We enjoyed it very much. I posted pictures but it must have deleted somehow. So I will need to come back and take some more shots of their menu items. I ate lunch here during the Fire and Ice Festival. The menu was specific to the festival with lots of interesting items to sample. I started with the Fire and Ice burger. They were not kidding about the fire part. The burger had ghost peppers AND jalapeno peppers on top of the burger. My mouth was on fire after only a few bites so needed to remove the jalapeno pepper to bring down the heat. The burger also included this awesome thick cut bacon. When they say everything is better with bacon, they are not kidding. To keep with the fire and ice theme, I chose the Fire and Ice Cream sandwich for dessert. The sandwich was a chocolate cookie with peanut butter and jalapeno ice cream. I know what you are thinking.....odd combination and why would you mix peppers with peanut butter? To my surprise, the dessert was delicious. You didn't really taste the pepper but could taste a tiny bit of heat in the ice cream. Very unique and creative dessert. read more

We had a lovely stay here and highly recommend this charming, well-run, comfortable and nicely-located inn. Staff were all friendly and helpful, storing our bicycles for day trips and very interested in guests feeling well taken care of. It has nice antiques but also modern amenities and we enjoyed our meal in the restaurant one night. The tap menu outside was limited but you can also get beers from inside. We got salads and dessert. An acoustic singer started at 7 l; it was great. Th second drink which was Jonny Walker black Scotch was half of the volume of the first drink. Maybe 1 ounce. I told tbe waitress and she said that the first drink was over poured. . I recently had dinner and drinks at the restaurant with a group of 4 couples, 8 total people. I had high hopes because typically the town is very charming with good food. Unfortunately this restaurant did not have great food. I ordered the steak tartare and it tasted rancid! The pungent awful smell and taste made me fearful that I would get food poisoning. It was inedible. In addition to the questionable food, the dining room was also extremely hot because it did not have proper ventilation.This was evident because everyone in the room was fanning themselves or kept going into the hallway for air. In addition to the inedible food and sweaty dining area, they also charge a surcharge on their bill which was not mentioned. In visiting years prior the food was so much better, the service was high quality, and it was more of a dining experience. Sadly, now I would rank this restaurant lower than a Ruby Tuesdays. read more

Once seated the host brought us waters and we sat unacknowledged for 30 minutes. Waited again for food and drinks. The tacos were ok. Beans inedible and visually disgusting. Corn was meh. The patio itself is quite nice. There are ways to handle being short staffed such as being up front with guests about service and ticket times. 4.5 stars based on an overnight stay only this past weekend. This used to be the General Sutter Inn. Attached to the Bulls Head Public House (lame-o) and despite the name change, everything seems to be the same as it ever was. Super friendly check-in and a small lot for free parking right behind the building. We were given a nice room on the 3rd floor (stairs, no elevator) and it was super clean and ready for us to check in a bit early. Bonus. This floor is music-themed and just a cool vibe all around. You have access to the kitchen and a huge TV room with a massive television (did not take advantage -- next time!), so even though there isn't much to do in the room to chill despite TV in bed, you can stretch out in the common areas. I'm not sure if others were staying on our floor, but the walls were not thin and it was pretty darn quiet, even being faced right on the main street. They had a couple bottles of water in the room if you wanted to make coffee in a personal Keurig machine right at your bedside, or they have an industrial Keurig right in the kitchen with just one caffeinated option and one decaf, plus at least one tea. Cupboards are stocked with glassware and you can help yourself to almost anything in the fridge that doesn't have someone's name attached. They have inside dining and a newish outdoor space that is a biergarden of sorts and pretty spacious with an outside bar too. We need to spend some time there on our next visit and avoid the pretentious folks working at the Public House. $227 with tax and would gladly stay here again. read more

We have looked forward to this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary for about 8 years now, and have thoroughly enjoyed all but this dinner. All previous dinners were with a full house of patrons. This year we were strangely the only patrons?? We shared a mushroom toast appetizer. My wife had shrimp and grits, and I had twin crab cakes. Clearly there has been a big change in chef and quality. The appetizer was a sticky, salty, blob of goo! The shrimp and crab cakes barely passed expected quality. That huge bowl of grits and low quality of cheese was enough for several people, and could not be consumed. As a result we did not order dessert. Why chance it? I have enjoyed eating here many times. The past two times, however, have been disappointing. It's not the food, it's the cleanliness. Yesterday my coffee cup had dried coffee inside the cup and both the spoon and fork had dried food stuck to them. How can a server wrap that silverware in a napkin and not notice that? How can a server grab a cup and not see a big coffee ring on the inside? Worse yet, when I asked for clean items, I was given yet another dirty cup. Gross. read more

Very satisfied with the beer selection. ABV, size and rating included on menu. Slightly underwhelmed with the lettuce wraps. We ordered as a shared appetizer and disappointed with the size. Two baby lettuce leaves and lacked flavor. An Asian inspired sauce would have added another layer of flavor. No complaints with the grilled cheese. The tomato soup was a bit thick for my liking, but like the parmesan shavings and homemade croutons. Brie and cranberry is one of my favorite combinations, but the burger itself was kinda dry. Stopped in at General Sutter on a Sunday morning at 11. Was welcomed by a friendly lady at the front desk. We ate in the formal dining area which is a nice, classy room (even on gray, dreary days). I have attached pics of the bar area which was lovely as well. My husband had the roast beef sandwich with a side of baked macaroni and cheese. I had the turkey sandwich and chips. Both of us liked our meals and I would get mine again-although I would probably try something new since the menu has lots of good choices. Service was perfect! read more

I absolutely love this place whether it's to meet up with friends or for a date night! I've yet to have an awful experience here to keep me from coming back! I highly recommend making reservations as they typically get busy, especially weekends. The parking is really the only downfall as it's street parking only. The staff is always incredibly friendly here as well as knowledgeable of the menu. They are quick to get you what you need when asked. The bartenders have always done an excellent job making drinks. The food is awesome! In my opinion, the portion sizes are generous and the prices are great! My favorite thing to get here (when it's in season) is the beet salad! It's probably the best beet salad I've ever had and I've tried them at high end restaurants. The outdoor dining looks beautiful, but I've yet to make it out there for dinner. The Bullshead is next door and they have a great selection of drinks. It's more of a low key fun time over there. read more

Cute place. There rooms are nice. If you're looking to go to sleep early at night or at all on the weekends, you won't get that here. There's a bar, lounge and pub here that is frequented by locals. There is a large patio on the side and many chairs in the front along the street. If your room is street side, not only will you hear street noise, but people talking loudly, carrying on and yelling to all hours of the night. Just be aware. They're definitely not telling people to leave even after the place is closed. Bring your noise cancelling earphones. read more

Fantastic food and service. Grilled cheese with duck confit and tomato bisque soup were fantastic. Wine list is decent and the bison burger is worthy. Unfortunately, they were out of many things that we wanted to try: Scotch Egg, cask ale, and they don't have a decent cut of steak on the menu. While I understand this is a 200 year old building, they aren't ADA-compliant with a steep set of stairs down for the gents bathroom and the narrowest labyrinth of a bathroom for the ladies. Tip: Don't come here unless you are the fittest amongst you or can hold your bladder for hours until you get home. read more

I was in nearby Manheim for the Pennsylvania Ren Faire this weekend and my partner and I stopped by the Inn for a small dinner and a drink. We were able to sit indoors (tables were made safe by plexiglass dividers :) which was such a treat since we're from NYC where that's not yet permitted. The atmosphere throughout the Sutter Inn and the Bull's Head Public House is so charming that I would have been happy no matter what, but the reason I'm writing this review is that the bartender who wound up being our server made me THE BEST Sazerac on the face of the earth. I told him it was comparable to the version created for me several years ago at Le Pavillon in New Orleans, at which point he explained he has a certain expertise with this drink that he could demonstrate if I were to order another...which of course I did, even though I was rather squiffy from the first already...and it was the gustatory experience of a private burlesque dance in a salacious bordello. It is rare for a cocktail to elevate one's evening to the heights this drink took me to. I think everyone who comes to this establishment needs to know this intense pleasure is there for the asking. I wish I got the bartender's name. As a bonus, we also really liked the food: a house salad and the VEGETARIAN TIKKA MASALA with chicken added! read more

We booked online on Open Table while in Lancaster. We had a Monday 5:45pm reservation. To guarantee a table you must book on Open Table. They have a huge white tent up on the patio facing the square complete with fans & string lights. You must wear a mask to enter & exit and to go into the bathroom. Tables are well spaced at 6+ feet apart. Most are tables for 4. Host was very friendly & sat us right away. Host station is also outdoors under tent. You can go next door to Bull's Head Tavern, but it's first come first served seating & unlike prior to COVID, now you MUST see the hostess to get a table if available. Reservations online are for General Sutter patio only. Menu is limited & same on both sides. All servers wear masks & gloves. There were only 2 of us but we had a table for 4 so plenty of room. They sanitize tables I'm between customers. It was a lovely summer evening. You can scan their QR code at the hostess stand and view menu on your phone. This is the preferred method ordering. Disposable paper menus are available upon request but they prefer you use your phone. We shared a Caesar salad, the large is huge. Enough for 3! Anchovies too, the real deal. It was very good. In fact had I known it was that good I would have added chicken or shrimp to it & just had that. I had the Bulls Head prime burger medium with fries. My husband had double fish & chips, which is only $2 more than single order. Two massive pieces of fried fish. All condiments are in packages or small containers, no bottles. My burger was good, but slightly over medium. Fries were fresh cut, hot and good. He said the fish was very good, couldn't finish it all. I had Old Speckled Hen, which is a hard to find British ale in a nitro can. He had Miller Lite. They do have a selection of great taps too. I recommend this for outdoor dining with social distancing.
