We have always liked it here. Today met a friend for lunch and I noticed the new menus. So, we each had a tuna melt with just water to drink. Nothing else no upgrades or desert. 32 bucks? This was our first time visiting this restaurant. They say you should always make a good first impression. That did NOT happen! The only reason we are giving this 2 stars is our waitress Sara. She was friendly and efficient. I had breakfast for dinner. My meat lover's omelette was huge but a little dried out. Brought 1/2 of it home in the hopes of salvaging it in the morning. My husband's dinner was a disaster. He had the meatloaf platter with stuffing and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were not even warm enough to melt butter. The gravy wasn't hot enough to help warm the potatoes. The bread stuffing was at least warm. But the meatloaf...absolutely awful. It was SPICY! The manager checked and told us the kitchen may have added too much pepper. Said he'd have to make sure they didn't do the same thing tomorrow. Tomorrow! Did offer us $3.00 off our $30.00 meal. Service is horrible. All the servers i've had are so rude and just a "what do you want" type of conversation, they have no personality at all. This is truly our favorite diner to visit. We have been here quite a bit over the year, and we would rate it a 9.2 out of 10. We have only had one bad meal here over the course of the year...and one issue leaving a tip on our card, when we were charged more for the tip, but that was a simple mistake, and it was resolved immediately. It smelled like someone was smoking inside the building. Made me nauseous. We went when it wasn't busy and waited a decent time for our food. While there were multiple workers just standing around doing nothing. Then our food came out wrong, but we didn't want to wait longer so we just ate it. Stopped in with my girlfriend for some breakfast, it was our first time there. The food was great, no complaints at all. 2 stars for our "waitress". She was rude & didn't make us feel welcome at all. She checked on us ONCE. We had to get up to fill our own drinks, no joke. Idk what was up with her, she was twitchy and couldn't stop moving but wasn't moving towards us at all. Had lunch here today, Sunday after church. Got seated with no wait, served drinks right away, great menu and our waitress was very attentive. I had a Trio Salad, loved it and it was more than enough! Food was good....years ago, but not anymore. It seems like nobody cares. Utensils seem dirty with a film on them. We ordered ice tea and were told "we're not brewing any more today ". Really????? We hadn't been there for a few months and decided to give it another try, on that day I ordered coffee and was told " we are out of coffee and aren't making more ".it's A DINER .....A DINER and I can't get coffee????? There are plenty of diners and restaurants out here that care about their customers, pick any one of them and chances are that you will have a better experience. I pondered should I even leave a comment but my hope is that this would be an educational experience for the owner and management. This was the first time my husband and I ever entered this facility and right off the bat my gut was to turn right back around and leave. But like with everything I always try to see if "this is really happening" actually happening and it did. We walked in the door and were immediately taken back by the "stares" and tension that was surrounding us. My husband just came off of work and we had errands to do so he didn't notice at first but I sure did. After the initial shock from everyone, the owner proceeded to take us to our table, being that all the front booths were COMPLETELY empty he continues to the back part of the restaurant. I thought that was odd, and just followed him and he sat us at our table in the back. So we sat because we just thought, ok due to covid he was only allowing half of his booths to be filled. As we ordered, we notice other people coming in and they were seated in those same booths that we were not offered. Now I knew what was "happening" and sadly with it being 2021 and my husband being a black man and I being a white woman we were basically "in the back of the bus" of this facility. Now you can argue that maybe he left it for the elderly, I would completely understand that until an elderly couple that was African American also sat in the back with us! What or should I say who sat in the front? White people sat there, nothing but rows and rows of white people were given those seats. I am quite disturbed that this owner behaved this way and being he is also of another ethnic population he should know better than to treat ALL people like this. In his ignorance, he should truly educate himself on understanding that ALL people deserve to be respected! We no longer sit in the back of the bus sir! read more

I ordered a Greek salad For take out. Walking to the car, hmmm, I thought to myself , this feels pretty light. As I was driving and stopped at a red light I open to look at the salad and there was nothing in it at all but black olives and feta cheese and lettuce. SO this is how the nightmare went...we stopped at this establishment on 8/6/16 to get some dinner. Wife ordered the broiled crab cake sandwich and I ordered the seafood platter special which included stuffed shrimp, a crab cake, & flounder. My kid played it safe and got the kids grilled cheese sandwich meal. Smart kid. All was going well and the waitress delivered our food. We started eating our dinner. A few minutes into the meal, my wife's face turned stark white as she pointed to her crab cake sandwich. I looked over and saw....A DEAD ANT SMASHED INTO THE CRAB CAKE. So, yeah it happens, I guess. I'm not naive to think that all food is made in a sterile laboratory environment, but we ain't paying for an ANT SANDWICH, my wife wanted a crab cake sandwich. Our waitress must have vaporized after she delivered our food because she did not return to check on us. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I had no recourse but to take the ant sandwich over to the hostess who was positioned all the way across the diner by the entrance. I told her that I wanted to see the manager immediately. I showed her my wife's ant sandwich. She looked at it in shock and raced to the kitchen with the sandwich in hand. So by this point I was getting angry. The hostess disappears with my wife's ant sandwich without any explanation and our waitress is still no where to be seen. The place wasn't busy, there were about 4 couples there. I wander back to my seat in bewilderment. My family sat there, in our booth, speechless, for another solid 10 minutes gawking at each other in disbelief. The hostess FINALLY comes back and now she has the ant in the palm of her hand. She states: "We were dissecting this in the back and the cook says this is just seasoning he put on the crab cake." My wife and I exchanged wide-eyed gazes of amazement with each other for a brief moment and then my blood started to boil. "That ain't no seasoning." I yelped in shock that she was now boldface bs'ing us. "That thing has a thorax, it has a head and legs...it...moved" I told the hostess "WHERE IS THE MANAGER??." The hostess then replied after a brief pause: "I am the manager." "Well woop de doo! I'm glad you told me that NOW when I asked you for a manager 10 minutes ago". I belted out. "So you were dissecting in the kitchen huh? That explains why we've been sitting here wondering what the hell was going on." I then asked her: "When were you going to tell me this?" The "manager" said: "I was going to tell you when you checked out." My jaw just dropped. By this point, It wasn't about the ant sandwich anymore. I was now in a state of dumbstruck wonderment. "So I have to PAY, and *THEN* I get an explanation?" Like I have to pay for the results of the autopsy they performed? "If it was just "seasoning", I find her choice of the word "dissecting" very interesting. There was a awkward pause, and then the "manager" asked my wife if she could bring her something else in its place. My wife just shook her head laughing madly. I told the "manager" that I got a crabcake too and now I'm not to keen on eating it now. The "manager" pauses and then just walked off. So now, alone again, my wife and I are left to holding a staring contest with each other because we were both in total and utter shock, like a nightmare was happening and we wanted to escape but we're paralyzed by the sheer stupidity of what was transpiring. The waitress FINALLY comes back after 20+ minutes of hiding under a rock and throws down the check. She states that: "They decided to not charge you for the crabcake...have a good night." I was shaking now, pure hellfire rage was coursing through my veins. I snatched the check and I called for the waitress as she went to tend to the older couple seated behind us. The waitress snapped back "Lower your voice and wait, I need to tend to these customers now." I was floored by her response. I asked my wife she ought to take my daughter and go to the car because this is going to get ugly. My wife said she was staying. My daughter was half-crying because she was getting scared. I shot up out of my seat and now I was in the middle of the floor glaring at the waitress. I dangled the check in front of her face and told her she'd better get the manager again and do something about this "check" now! She took it and reluctantly went to the back again. We waited again waited for about five minutes. The place was in utter silence due to my spectacular display of dissatisfaction, but dammit I had E-NOUGH with the bs. It took all I could to not walk out. The "manager" came back out and right away she states "we're going to go ahead and comp(ensate) your meal. Your free to go." She said with a half-baked smile. Needless to say we tore out of there double time. A dead ant in our food, was made to sit collectively for a half hour with no clear explanation, no apologies, and then LIED to about what the ant was. STAY AWAY FROM HERE read more

I have been here for breakfast twice, and recently tried dinner. Breakfasts are good. You can get onions in homefries if you ask... just wish they were cooked in instead of dumped on top. Good service, friendly owners, and tasty bteakfast fare overall. Dinner not so hot. We went on a weeknight when we didnt feel like cooking. For starters, our appetizer of coconut shrimp was undercooked, the inner shrimp cool. Ew. Could not locate server after she delivered thus "delight" for a long while (I have a sneaking suspicion she may have been hiding--?), so did not send back--just made a mental note NOT to order again without saying "cooked, please." For dinner, I got the gyro sandwich, which was ok--nothing special, too much tsakiki sauce and lots of bread. Onion rings (an easy substitution for french fries) were crispy and tasty. My dinner companion ordered the bleu cheese burger, which sounded delicious, per the menu. It was not... He said it tasted "funny," and he thought the cook went overboard with A1 sauce or something similar. He ate about half. Not the burger experience he'd anticipated. Our server was a little odd.... she asked us if we "saved room for dessert" shortly after we got our entrees, and brought us our check when we said we couldn't say, as we were still eating. Other weirdness, in the nearly empty restaurant was two owners or managers (I had not seen them on previous breakfast visits) talking business within earshot, griping about shift shortages in the register, etc. Inappropriate. We will stick to breakfast at the Centerville for now. Hopefully they'll get their act together beyond breakfast soon. read more

The host couldn't be bothered to pause his phone conversation long enough to greet me or ask what I needed. He grabbed a placemat and motioned me to follow him to a table. He was annoyed when I didn't follow. Turns out I was there to pick up takeout, which he would have known had he greeted me. He continued nonstop on the phone, balancing my meal on the narrow ledge of the cash register stand, causing the gravy to leak from the container into the bag. Continued talking while he rung up the order and inserted my card. Oh wait - he did pause once - just long enough to look up and say (ask, demand) "TIP??" Um, that would be a hard no. Rude. Rude. Rude. I'm one of the most easy going restaurant customers there is. So many things that happen are accidents or miscommunication or whatever. But outright rudeness? I will call that out every time. They took it back and brought out a new sandwich with the original fries, which had been sitting under a warmer. Had to ask for new fries. Meatloaf was mushy. Bakery bought I'm assuming. The bathrooms smell of death and it's by the rear kitchen door. Health inspectors must be on the take for allowing this place to operate. Find them in the Clipper. Overall the place was clean. Our waitress did get my order right, even with the changes but there were flaws: We were a party of three and provided silverware for two - had to get a busboy to get us more Had to ask for napkins - twice LONG wait for food, and check - in fact we had to flag someone down to get it WORTH MENTIONING: the home fries are disgusting! I sent them back. Browned on top and mushy and flavorless all the way thru. No seasoning or salt whatsoever. The scrapple was like eating cardboard, took it home for my swine loving feline and she wouldn't even touch it. The pancakes are large but very dry, they absorb the syrup so a lot is needed and the texture is strange. The eggs benedict with spinach is literally an egg on a dry English muffin and a slimy pile of spinach with cheese wiz type sauce. We came here for breakfast this morning and the service was amazing! From the host seating us, our waitress and just having people walking around to top off coffee and clear plates. The food came out quickly for quite a busy morning and all was delicious! The menu was quite extensive for breakfast as well! This place is decent. The food is great and the staff is pleasant. I'd recommend trying their omelets and anything on their lunch menu. There are two advocates that prevents me from giving Centerville Diner 5 stars. One is their coffee; it's not the finest and it taste rather cheap. The other was a rather odd occurrence with a female staff member while paying the check. When I explained that a receipt was not needed she mumbled something under her breathe, rolled her eyes, and crumpled it. It was just unpleasant. I'd also recommend that the waitresses discontinue jumping the gun with delivering the check. Once that check comes, almost always while in the middle of eating your food, they no longer stop by the table to refill coffee or ask if anything else is needed. Let the people eat in peace and stop attempting to rush them out the door. When that happens to me I make sure their tip reflects my dismay! 3/5 read more
