Delicious food and quiet atmosphere, loved both times coming here. Came here for the first time for dinner on a Saturday night half hour before closing and the service and respect was still on point. This is a GREAT place that I always visit when in the area. All menu items are great but I will always get crab cakes and scrapped. No, they don't go together but I can't get that where I'm living 500 miles away! Service is good, atmosphere is good (a typical diner) and food is excellent! So - you should go there! read more

We were not crazy about this place. It didn't seem very clean inside and a walk to the bathroom just about turned my stomach. Not to mention a posted sign said to flusht the toilet 3 times and 5 didn't even do it. The waitress didn't seem to know the menu very well when asked questions. The Italian wedding soup was pretty good. I ordered eggplant parm and was brought chicken parm instead. Simple enough order. I hated to return it, esp since it probably went to waste, but I really wanted eggplant. It was just okay. The only good thing to come from our visit was they found a pull case we dropped. read more

I had been to this diner some years ago following a funeral and didn't remember much about it , but today found us in the vacinity. It has a long access ramp and lots of handicapped parking. We entered and viewed a board of specials. We were greeted and seated in a booth of our choice. The place was very clean, even the restrooms. We were briefly a bit bothered by the ammonia laden mop near us being used by a very zealous employee. The menu is extensive. You, like me, may be overwhelmed by all the food choices. I tend to gravitate toward Pa Dutch specialties like ham loaf. I received 3 large slices covered in pineapple sauce. In true Pa Dutch fashion, it was bland but just what I expected. I added sides of a yummy applesauce with cinnamon and Dutch bread stuffing with gravy. A perfect yellow food trio! My unsweet tea hit the spot just right. The other of us got liver and onions, again, something we often choose if we see it on the menu. Bland but tasty as expected. We asked for the grilled onions to be burned but they were just grilled and barely. Other than that the liver was tender and another overly generous senior portion. The red beets were sour the way they should be. I don't eat them ever but one of us loved them. For dessert nothing temped us so we settled on sharing a thin slice of peanut butter cheesecake. It was ok. Dense and a bit bland. I've been remarking on the blandness of all the food, but the thing is, this food is made to appeal to everyone and they all know we can add salt and pepper like we've done our entire lives eating this type of food. It is filling, fattening comfort food. The kind you expect from a diner and a grill with a cook rather than a chef. Our server was very friendly and was tipped generously. Our bill for 2 senior entrees with 2 sides each, 2 teas and a piece of cheesecake was $37. We left with boxes full of dinner and lunch tomorrow! We arrived at 7:50pm unaware that they closed at 8:30pm, regardless they took us in and seated us very quickly. The service was top notch, it is hard to find good customer service these days. Our waitress was a sweet gal, and very prompt in service. I reccomend the salmon! It was delicious cooked perfect and flavorful! We even snagged some cake and pie slices for $2 on sale. What a great little find after driving around for 1.5hrs just trying to get something to fill our belly's. We got more than that! Will be back for sure and you should def check it out too. read more

I pass this diner all the time. One morning me and my sister decided to pop in on our way to the nail salon. When I looked at the breakfast menu, to my surprise they have my favorite breakfast in the entire world which is country fried steak. I am from the south so country fried steak in Tx. Is at every restaurant. It is very rare to find it here in Pennsylvania. They cooked the country fried steak perfectly and the other items were wonderful just as well. Horrible!! Must have changed hands. Went at noon and only 8 customers in the place. The guy in charge was talking to the staff so rudely, I would never work for him. He was telling staff that anybody that didn't want to clean up after him could leave and not come back. He also was asking who put creamers on the tables because it caused him more work to put them way. He acted as though he was superior to everyone else. Kid was washing the tables and not washing them well. A couple was coming in as we were leaving and was shown three tables because none of them were cleaned well enough. Food was not great either. We used to come here awhile ago but then the place went down hill. We decided to give it a try again a couple months ago and we were pleased by the two second shift servers they had hired. It was a mother and daughter. They were always laughing and were very kind and enthusiastic, you could tell they loved their job. They became our favorite and we kept coming back for them. We just found out they took hours from the daughter without even discussing it and now she has to find a new job. The reasoning behind the cut hours was not fair considwring ive seen other empolyees doing the same stuff, and it just feels like they were putting all fault on her. Its a shame when you can see how hardworking people are but clearly the management just dont care. How they just toss people away like trash. We will not be returning due to how they treat their empolyees who helped run the business while they were gone. We will be following her to her new work place. I just hope other people see how unacceptable this behavior is, and how employees are human too and have lives and bills. What a waste. read more

Went to Lancaster country to explored new things ...on the way drive back to De , I can not find any restaurant around there I like . well I don't like dinner much cause they don't cook good and foods not too much choose ...anyway we still tried city star dinner ...no review ...kinda little nervous ha ha ....diner is nice with green chairs and services is nice too . We ordered taxes hamburger......I always like meat cook well done cause I scared red meat ...ok maybe you can laugh on it but I can not change .i was eaten hamburger in restaurants sometime but nowhere cook well done good ...usually they burned it . But here they make me happy , meat was well done , hamburgers was real good with French fries awesome . I would love to come back someday ...love this place a lot . Price is not spicy ... My husband and I went to City Star Diner the morning of our friends wedding. It was a Sunday morning so we expected a long wait, but it seemed that they had a lot of space so no wait time! Owen was our server and was great! They were attentive and kind. I ordered the sausage gravy and my husband ordered Eggs Benedict. We both LOVED our meals! So much so, that we decided to come back for breakfast the next day too. McKayla was our server this day and was also attentive and kind. Want to get ripped off? City Star Diner is the place to go! Had breakfast there this a.m. (8/21/2020) Left cash tip. When paying Brittany asked if we wanted tip put on card. Replied no. We were still charged 20% for an extra tip. It didn't show up on my receipt, or the receipt they had me sign...Sneaky aren't they? Called & she argued she didn't do it, I checked my card statement have proof they did. Manager, Eric, was irate & nasty with me when I called. All I got to say was my name. He was a yelling gibberish that I couldn't understand. Asked him if I could talk & he yells, "NO! I NO HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOU!" and then hung up on me. Called back & he hung up on me again. Called again and talked to someone named Darla, explained situation to her & asked to speak with the owner, only to find out that Eric was the owner. Being from NJ I think I know a little something about diners. This place looks like a diner, smells like a diner and IS a diner....but the food is meh. The waitress took our order quickly and the it came out quick. I went with the standard bacon and American cheese omelet, well done home fries and rye toast. The bacon did not cover the entire omelet, the ends were just egg and the potatoes were hash browns, shredded potatoes and had no taste. My 6YO got chocolate chip pancakes...they had a strange taste. Almost like onion....he didn't eat them. The strangest thing about this place....ketchup packets on the table! Not sure how that is cost effective, but it is a PITA! Most likely will not be coming here for breakfast, but may try it for lunch. read more

Today, I went to the City Star diner for breakfast. The food was pretty good, but that's where it stops. Our waitress was inattentive, and for lack of a better term, miserable. She took our order, dropped out order off, and later, brought us our bill. Not once did she check on us, or ask if we wanted (drink) refills. And she didn't even thank us or wish us a good day; isn't that just courtesy?? The manager/hostess wasn't too lovely either. No plans on returning here too quickly. read more

I worked here for a couple months and it is not clean at all!! Cooks smoke cigarettes in the kitchen, no one wears gloves, hair is not restrained properly, and food is left to sit out for hours even days without even being covered!!! On top of all of this the owner doesn't pay his workers properly! No overtime pay instead you get cash handed to you with your pay check! Not okay! And I haven't yet to receive my last check and plan to take full legal action because of this! This place deserves a negative rating! read more
