Mexican hash with sourdough toast and a small order of sausage gravy and biscuits with a side of bacon

Friendly quick service and delicious food! Nice clean quiet atmosphere and the traditional dinner are is super cute. Great price for the quality and portions.

We've eaten @ The Black Olive in Columbia & when we heard that the owners purchased the Cloister Restaurant we definitely wanted to try. Not disappointed My husband had breakfast for dinner - alpine omelette with home fries. Loved it. He also ate the fried green beans (fresh green beans sautéed in olive oil w/light seasoning) that came with my meal. I had one of daily specials - fried shrimp & clams served with French fries, fresh salad, green beans (my husband ate) & pudding. HUGE portions & fresh food. Will definitely be back.

Open under new ownership in November of 2020. Owner Mike Sirvi, owner of the Black Olive Diner of Columbia has remodeled and reopened the Cloister Resturaunt, and our first visit was very impressive! Breakfast- served all day- had an expansive menu of pancakes, waffles, omelettes, and specials. We settled on the diner omelette, and order of waffles for our son, and a Florentine omelette for the wife. All were provided with a heaping pile of hone fries, toast, and a three-egg omelette. Food was fantastic. Obviously, the new owner has brought his experience to get the Cloister's quality established quickly. Coffee was good and plentiful. Interior had some remodeling done, and looks good. Everything was clean. And, you can't beat a diner with a long counter of stools! Pricing was in-line- about 8.5 per omelette. Owner came around to check on quality of food and service. Kudos. The ONLY drawback was wait staff with masks under noses or on the chin. I won't bristle at this, but some might. Overall, a really good visit back to an establishment that is within a mile of my house but I hadn't visited since for at least 20 years. With breakfast all day and a closing of 10 PM- a rarity in Ephrata- I will make this much more of a frequent option.

The poor staff, desperately need more staff - but put that aside since that is a management issue. The hostess & waitress were kind, apologetic about the wait and through with providing everything once able to. Food was good- ate at breakfast time. Son had steak and eggs - steak was cooked to perfection! Good experience!!

Turkey, triple decker club sandwich on rye. Fries were fantastic crispy not soggy.

My kids loved it. The fries and onions rings were cold. The cake was meh. It's fine for what it is.

Country diner feel, nothing spectacular, you feel like you are home. You can see the regulars coming through and that's always a good sign. Our server seemed both rushed and annoyed in general. Like I said, I don't know if it's because they were short handed. We never got any coffee or water refills and it seemed like the order when it came out was a struggle. We had ordered hashbrowns for my daughter and they never came. The food is what you would expect from a diner vibe. Some really exceptional, some not so much. The pancakes were obviously a selling point, my wife's waffle was delicious. The sausage and scrapple were great for this kind of establishment. Bacon was stale and cold. The sunny eggs were actually cooked perfectly, which I never expect from anywhere, so kudos on that. The fresh fruit selection was bananas and thawed frozen blueberries. So you get what you get. Overall, stick to the pancakes, sausage and scrapple, steer clear of any fresh fruit options and don't expect much from the service if you aren't a regular. I'd still go back and try other menu options.

I have eaten more than a few times at Gus's in Mount Joy, so today while in Akron we decided to try…read moretheir Ephrata location. The recent snow left a great need for shoveling, and while we found a handicapped place by the door and cleaned off sidewalks, the steps from the car to the sidewalk requires stepping through some piled up snow and some uncleared areas. Still once negotiated it was a straight easy entry. We were seated quickly and I was impressed with the layout of this venue. It has a friendlier vibe and the space is less carved up so to speak. The menu is always extensive. The problem for me is no matter what I choose I don't like it much. This time I got a croquette. Bland, mushy, I don't know. I guess that's how croquettes are. But I just find everything sort of like your big sister's dinner prep when Mom has to work. It's edible but not necessarily enjoyable. Still people love diner fare and with such a huge menu of choices it's a wonder anything tastes remarkable. I think that's it in a nutshell. It's unremarkable. Not bad, but not good either. I will say my companion enjoyed the melted cheese topped crock of tomato soup. So my 4 stars is for wait staff, venue itself, and extensive choices. I took away a star because the food just isn't star worthy, here or in Mt Joy.

Overall we LOVE Gus' Food!…read more We got the Ultimate French Toast, very good New York Style Challah Bread, but no whipped cream or powdered sugar threw us off a little! We would prefer a house made syrup, but the Smuckers syrup got the job done. Their breakfast sandwiches are great! Bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel was delicious. The place gets crowded and there is often a wait, we got there before the crowd so it wasn't too bad. Overall the Ephrata location has tons of seating. Gus' has some of the best homefries around! Staff was very friendly! Pay up at the front, not at your table!

I understand what your job involves, but standing over customers & demanding them to order something so you can leave & get tip doesn't fly. The interior of restaurant was just ok, the bench's for booths in rear of restaurant were missing. Very gloomy atmosphere. The soup yankee bean was the best part of my whole meal. Which for the amount that was ordered should've been on point. Items ordered: Yankee bean soup, steamed carrots & fish n chips Wife got salad, buttered corn & fish n chips We also got potato skins & chicken tenders (appetizer) Wouldn't you guess it they would serve everything all together. I'm so glad that I didn't indulge myself & eat the fish, I am one of the few people allergic to Tilapia. As an ex Chef I know the basics for fish n chips is 95% of the time cod. (Nothing was stated on the menu) I ate the fries which were obviously fried together, already had the lovely feeling of throat swelling up. I let wife take care of things due to myself thinking it was just my stress from work (go outside for fresh air) Wife than calls me back into restaurant with fish in hand(and owner had not known what fish was used for this item on the menu) I was floored! How do you not know your menu from front to back. He later told us it was Tilapia & he still wanted compensation for us getting the fish. The establishment used to be on my ok list, this restaurant is now worse than Pizza Hut. No point in sharing photos it wasn't a pleasant experience. Kudos to the owner for being an out right Dick!

Two eggs, over easy, potatoes, rye toast, coffee and a side of bacon. Perfection. I love it hereread more

I'm so torn in the writing of this review, because I love or loved the Olde Lincoln House (OLH)…read morerestaurant, but this particular meal on Valentine's Day, was sad, disappointing and unforgivable. Even though I made a reservation, the parking (both lots), completely full and in semi-empty spaces, held heaps of snow. We partially parked on the side, of a heaping pile and my husband had to scoot his butt, past the steering wheel, to get out of the car. Why am I harping on the car parking situation? Because, if this restaurant choose to stick to those who had reservations, only; I feel there would have been ample parking available. I would have preferred to sit downstairs, dimmed lighting, wooden beams and overall, cozier feel. Yeah, I should have spoken up as to where I would have preferred to sit, but now I'm feeling slighted, by the lack of courtesy shown towards someone, who had the foresight to make a reservation in advance. Upstairs we went - bright lights, white table cloths, nothing cozy or hinting of Valentine's Day. That's okay, I'm thinking; the food will be good. A crock of onion soup, as a starter - perfect, actually, not too salty, caramelized onions, bubbly broiled cheese, savory onion broth, no complaints here. Medium-well prime rib, served raw, with a butter knife, no accompanied horseradish and over-cooked potato slices, undercooked zucchini. I sent it back to the kitchen. The same steak came back to me (not a new one), thirty minutes later, with the proper steak knife and horseradish. My husband's entree of five smallish scallops - decorated by halved, charred brussel sprouts on either side, looked more like an appetizer. This meal burned a huge, unimpressive hole in our wallet.
